No. Leave it in the ArmA2 universe with real life weapons and equipment. If you want to play STALKER, play STALKER.

The assault rifles are great and all, but the ammo is a real let down. It's difficult to find and you run out of it surprisingly quickly. Since they're all intermediate calibers (5.56, 5.45 and 7.62x39), they generally don't kill a zombie with one round, so you often have to use 2 or 3 as opposed to the one required by the Lee-Enfield or Winchester. Personally I think the Winchester 1866 is the most versatile and useful weapon in game. It's quiet, has a large mag capacity, and can take slug or pellet rounds. Load slugs for hitting far away and load pellets if they get close. Plus the military weapons spawn in places that get camped by bandit dickheads so you have to clear them out to get access to any of it. All in all it's just not worth the trouble.

Realistically it would be basically the same thing as the Lee-Enfield in terms of performance. The only really drastic difference would be the 5rd mag capacity (as opposed to 10rds in the SMLE). In Arma gameplay terms, the .303 is basically the same as the 7.62x54r.

If DayZ is to be set in Chernarus, the following weapons would realistically be found. Listing the ones that are available in stock A2CO: - Kalashnikov family (standard-issue military assault rifles) - Dragunov SVD - CZ-550 (stands in as a fairly common civilian hunting rifle) - Revolver (stands in as a fairly common civilian handgun) - Makarov (used by most east-bloc militaries) Realistically, I would expect to find these weapons in Chernarus if it was a real country, in addition to the above: - vz.58 assault rifle - Mosin-Nagant and derivatives - Tokarev TT-33 - M1895 Nagant revolver - PPSh-41/PPs-43 (war surplus) - Cz-52, Cz-75, Cz-82 - SKS - Mauser 98k (the Soviets captured quite a few of these and sent them as aid to their allies, Chernarus would surely have gotten quite a few. It is also a fairly ubiquitous rifle design.) You would likely not see Lee-Enfields or western weapons nearly as much as the "slavshit". If you did it would be on a 1 western to 10 combloc basis.

That's an Arma issue, not something the DayZ devs can fix.

Yes, a friend and I did it when the game lagged out on us on a US server. There were many zombies around and I didn't feel like dying and losing everything because the server was screwed up. However in a PVP situation I don't think "hit alt+F4" ever even enters my mind... after years of playing arma2 and NOT having the "savegame" functionality, it's not even part of my thought process. ;)

I don't understand these people saying "it's hard to survive on your own". That's because you fools are going right into the heart of Cherno or Elektro expecting to survive!

They're servers running the beta patch. It basically means that the lazies who won't install it can't get onto those servers. That's why there are usually 25/50 slots available. It's a real PITA to install it if you're working around Steam, though. Luckily my copy was bought at Walmart when Combined Ops first came out. ;)

I thought about this earlier - realized there seems to be absolutely no penalty for it! Seems like a major exploit too.
