Just had the same issue. Attacked by wolves on Livonia and managed to get off a couple of shots then froze solid. The wolves continued to attack and charge in and out but there was nothing I could do, couldn't move or fire, nothing! Luckily I managed to press the 'options' button on the DS4 and I quit the game but they continued to attack during the 15 second countdown timer. You can imagine the frustration...

What would be your best advice to a new player?

Thanks all for the advice. I'm sure you're right, private servers will provide a better playing experience all round... that's in hand. Think I was just venting a bit after being mugged for the umpteenth time... always feels better sharing it 😉 and, to be honest, I have been playing a bit smarter since - sneaking more, not running in straight lines and carrying a big axe. In-game there are more ups than downs and it is a scream watching the Z's chase animals. One time I happened to be near a Z when I heard gunshots some distance away. It was off like a rocket and led me straight to the victim. Haven't seen a moving car yet! -
Waaah, how can things go from being so good to so bad so quickly? More than enough food, more than enough weapons and ammo, unfortunately not enough care. Step out from a building and get wasted in a spray of lead... game over... hmm, where next? and who's now eating all of my cans of food?

I'm a nooby noobster and in my forays into the wild I have died or been killed in many ways. This has included zombie attack, blood loss, hunger, thirst, sickness, sledgehammer, machine gun and many other ways BUT each time I died I knew the reason why. Recently I was wandering quietly through an orchard in broad daylight, some distance from any buildings, habitation or threats of any kind. My food, fluids, blood and health etc. were all good and there was nobody in sight. Suddenly, and for no apparent reason, up comes the 'You Are Dead' screen... no shot, bang or explosion and no attack from anywhere, simply 'You Are Dead', no explanation, nothing. I was particularly gutted as I was carrying particularly nice weapons at the time. So what killed me? I accept that death comes easily in this game but if you don't know what killed you how do you learn to play and avoid the same thing next time?

How are things going foodwise @ChadK ? On Livonia I have worked my way from Kolembrody to Brena then across to the airfield at Gliniska and then into Gliniska itself. So far there seems to be no shortage of food and drink (and weapons/ammo) and tbh I'm probably the best fed and equipped that I ever have been in the game. Still a distinct lack of fruit for some reason. I have been using a map and that really does help even without a compass. I'm now in the prison at Kopa. It seemed like a good idea at the time but there is no food here so hopefully my lucky food finding streak will return when I move on to the next village.

Sometimes this game is weird. Had a Livonia game earlier today and there was nothing at all to be found. Tried everywhere and just couldn't avoid starving to death. Had another Livonia game on a different server. Spawned in the dark and pouring rain and a thunderstorm, bad news 😞. Decided to followed power lines for miles and miles, eventually found a house with one tomato on the table. It kept me alive while I crept around in the dark and then I stumbled into a tomato garden. I took only what I needed then in daylight I hit the town and found plenty of supplies and food no problem BUT nothing in any orchard. It's just strange how it varies from game to game...

D'oh, what a brilliant suggestion - it hadn't occurred to me. Presumably you can hide a stash then return to it when you're next at that location on the same server... assuming you can find it again...

As a fellow noob I've found the food finding system a bit hit and miss. Sometimes there is plenty to be found - apples, pears, plums, elderberries, mushrooms and various tins all over the place, in backpacks, zombies pockets etc. Other times, for some unknown reason there is nothing at all to be found anywhere. Yesterday I had worked my way inland and had to quit. I respawned/rejoined the same server today in exactly the same place but suddenly I couldn't find anything at all to eat. The orchards were all empty and there were just a few rotten pears which made me sick, they don't always. Presumably another player had done the rounds just before me and there was nothing to be found. Yesterday I had plenty of everything but today the food disappeared and so I ate what little I had while I searched and then I died... As for live food, I've killed chickens several times but once they're dead I can't pick them up or get them to appear on the inventory so I can't cook and/or eat them. Any advice with live/dead animals would be most welcome. I've found that other players/zombies etc can be a problem (but often avoidable) whereas lack of food is a real problem. To die just through lack of food annoys me most...

Haha, there was I worried about where the next headshot was coming from when I got savaged to death by wolves. Them suckers soaked up a lot of shots but still got me... and I was wearing my best Santa beard and anti stab vest. Oh well, back to square one - again - is there any way to shortcut the grind to decent weapons?

Thanks all, guess it must have been a head shot. It's just a shame there wasn't a second or two of 'video afterlife' showing me fall to the ground dead, rather than one second I'm walking and the next I'm looking at the 'You're Dead' screen... The 'Crusader' helmet I was wearing obviously didn't offer me the magical protection I thought it did... 😉... and now it presumably has a big hole in it... 😉 Thanks again.
