    Compass Lid Closing

Never had a problem with my compasses and degrading. When a compass is 'Damaged' or 'Badly Damaged' I'd like it to get an air bubble inside which will throw the needle off - possibly a little, possibly dramatically so (dependent on how much air gets into the liquid). Then if you were navigating using a compass you may end up off course.
  2. Tin opener. If I don't have one I can bet my last few shillings that I will only find tins that I'd be forced to hack open with an axe or knife.
  3. I'd never claim to be a hero, just a kind-hearted soul who likes to help out. Just got KoS'd by some fellow as I climbed over a fence out in some village. Nevermind, it happens.
  4. I spent over an hour doing this on Sunday. Had a Hunters Pack with 6 pristine cans of food in. I met three new spawns and opened up a pristine tin with my tin opener and left it on the road each time before continuing my patrol (was taking a leisurely Sunday stroll in the sun). I enjoyed it. Until a newspawn kept trying to fist fight me, so I shot him in self-defence (I had my M4 out when he attacked me and I panicked and opened fire) - he returned and attacked me again so I told him several times to clear off. When he wouldn't, I drew my .45 and nailed him - I'm happy to help people out but when someone is harassing me like that I will put an end to it. Then someone took a shot at me so I legged it - must have seen me nail the guy and thought I was killing off newspawns. Rather put a damper on my time. Still I'll probably head inland, grab more tins of food and return to the south to hand out more food.

Weather is coming...and it will make you sick ;)

Hurrah! Looking forward to this! Let's hope they include one.

Is it funner by your self or with someone?

For me I prefer solo-play - being a survivor in the lands of Chernarus, moving from settlement to settlement to find what I need to carry on, living with the tension of knowing that I have no back-up or assistance or, should I have limited inventory space, that I just have to leave kit behind sometimes. It's just what I prefer.
  7. I personally would like to see incentives to work together so long as they stayed as that - incentives. I'd walk away from the game if limits were ever placed on banditry/killing on sight. It's not that I partake in such activities, not so much as shot at anyone yet - not one bullet, but those people who actively engage in targeting other players create the real tension in the game. Whenever I approach a village or town, for example, I am actively thinking "I'm in someone's sights, someone is watching me, be careful. Which direction will they be in? Surely they must see me as clear as day," yet 99% of the time there is no-one there. I even went for a wander through Chernogorsk thinking that I was going to be shot at when I turned each corner, when I walked down roads or entered buildings. Didn't see a soul and this was on a 40/40 GB server during early evening GMT, yet I was absolutely convinced I was about to have my chap shot down and was just waiting for the screen to go black. As much as I despise the mindset of 'kill other people to survive' it has a place in DayZ and it would be a poor game without the tension the bandits/psychopaths bring.

A super rare weapon spawn idea

    How garish.
  9. Nope, not even fired on another player yet in 35 hours of play in the SA and only been shot twice. I'm very much against the idea of implementing permanent safe zones with artificial limitations (as in no shooting/weapons etc). I'm with the others - if anything they should be created and run by the players. Here's a little story; when I first played the mod a long while back (back when the bandits had a distinct outfit to mark them out) I was a fresh spawn running around Chernarus trying to gather kit when I was attacked by a fellow with an M16. I got lucky and put him down with the Makarov, but I was in a bit of state after his bullets had hammered into my avatars body. So I scooped up the M16 and set off to find a way of healing my character. I ran rather quickly into a couple of well-armed chaps who had decided to investigate the shooting. As I was in a poor way they escorted me to a church where another player had set up a temporary hospital and safe zone. It worked brilliantly. After being fixed up (I believe the fellow got lucky at a hospital) I helped stand guard and for a while. It was incredibly peaceful at that church. A constant stream of visitors but no violence took place inside, it was a safe haven. Until the doctor went offline and bandits descended on the church and hammered us bloody. Still, one of my favourite experiences from DayZ and that's how 'safe-zones' should be - player made and regulated.
  10. If there were safezones then that'd be the tension out of the window straight away. I love that my near-'pacifist' nature in the game (I won't fire unless fired upon, I try and initiate dialogue before any shooting will go down) means I will have an incredibly tense time. I love that. A lot. Especially when approaching towns/villages to restock. It's one of the things I enjoy about DayZ.
  11. Yet to kill someone in the Standalone and have only killed in self-defence in the mod on two occasions (long time ago - over a year and a half perhaps?), both when I was at a disadvantage & got lucky. I don't need to kill other survivors to have fun, I'm content roaming Chernarus, exploring and surviving. I enjoy strolling across hills and through woods, sneaking into a village to find the odd tin of food or refill my water bottles at a pump. I've had several people cold in my sights in the 30 hours I've played of the SA so far but not had to fire a single round.

    How do you dress?

Practicality combined with discreet colouring is my cup of tea. Greens & browns for melding into the woods and grassy slopes are preferred, camouflage can be helpful. I prefer military clothing as that's what I'd plump for in an apocalyptic situation due to their, in general, hard-wearing qualities and large number of pockets. Currently my chap has; - Black Radar Cap - Olive Tactical Shirt - UK DPM Assault Vest - Hunting Backpack - TTSKO Trousers - Grey Combat Boots - Black Work Gloves I'm not a fan of gasmasks/masks and I don't tend to carry sunglasses. I do carry a [Pristine] New Zealand beret in my backpack for those moments when I want a change from the Radar cap. When I start out from a fresh spawn I look to acquire warm clothing quickly (hoodie) and decent trousers. I avoid the larger rucksacks due to their increased profile and often bright colours.
  13. I'd like to see the crawling across a room = broken leg fixed even more so. That's how my avatar got his broken leg and I've crawled over 8km so far over two days, checked several towns several times, checked numerous deer stands and too many buildings to count yet no morphine. In fact, during my hunt for morphine, I've had my leg rebroken several times just by crawling through buildings looking for morphine. Not as if there is much about or I'd have found some by now. If my options are to go into a city to a hospital to get morphine then that will be fun, all that time spent looking for morphine and then having to crawl down to a city to get shot will be well worth my time. If it's better to check military tents... well same problem. I'll get shot and that'll be time wasted.
