My favourite bit of kit is the canteen. Always handy to have when you're in the middle of nowhere without any Spite or Pipsi cans to drink from.

This scares me.

You'll like it even less when it starts to actually affect your avatar & their equipment. I like rain as it is and thoroughly enjoy playing on servers where it's raining.
-
I agree with Hells High & HerrJon- slimming down your equipment, giving yourself an objective or just getting lost in Chernarus are good things to do. If you get bored of those or they don't appeal then I suppose you could just do what many others do - find someone to shoot.

Possibly a marksman. The bullet will travel faster than sound so it will hit and kill your avatar before you'd hear the gunshot (although sounds are a wee bit glitched at the moment). I was up in the fire station on the NWAF when I was sniped. I was convinced for a while it was a bug because I'd just picked up and put on a Grey Tactical shirt, literally as it went on to my avatar the screen went black.

Anti-stab vests can often be found in the Police station in Svetlojarsk, on the Eastern coast. I'm yet to find a Press vest though.

Ah, you think so? I was working outside the other day (I am a builder's labourer) in the rain and whilst trying to do my work in wet trousers the crotch seam split. This was because as I moved around working the material wasn't moving freely over my thighs - so a stretch too far and rrrriiiiippp - there went the crotch seam and the top of the inner seam on the left leg. That's certainly damage that needs to be fixed with a bit of sewing. Not the first time it's happened too.

What part of the 'life cycle' do you enjoy most?
rapier17 replied to -MadTommy's topic in General Discussion
I like it most when I have little in the way of equipment and manage to find that new bit of gear that helps me out, even if it's only a little bit of the way. Like finding a shirt/coat that gives me an additional couple of bits. I also like it when I find something like a tin opener or a compass. Weapons I'm not overly fussed about, except perhaps pistol and axe, but finding the building blocks for survival are most important to me. Especially -not- finding that much kit to use. It keeps propelling me on to search the next village or to go to that farm and check it on the off-chance there might be a little something I can use. -
Airfield hangers are excellent places to try. Sometimes the other buildings at airfields will have them but the hangers are the best bet.

...there's a dilemma? Keep it sir, keep it. I shaved mine off yesterday and I miss it already*. Not shaving it off again any time soon. *Last time I shaved it off fully was back in about 2008.

What do you keep in your inventory? My backpack versus my friends.
rapier17 replied to Hagon94's topic in General Discussion
Perhaps if you expect to go into a fight but for me, well I'm up in the north, muddling along on my own, surviving in the 'wilds'. I carry weapons purely for defensive purposes and whilst I don't expect to use them, apart from the axe which is for splitting zombies in two, I carry them anyway. The few times I have been shot it's all been over long before I could even consider escape, so I'm not fussed where bits go. -

rapier17 replied to Hagon94's topic in General Discussion
I haven't quite sorted out my inventory lately but the Radar Cap I'll retain for in future, the red dot sight I'll probably ditch, the black trousers are for when I get bored of TTsKO trousers. The 10 round magazine is just so I have some back-up ammo without resorting to lugging around large magazines. In the courier bag there's a canteen as well as a First Aid Kit that you can't see in the screenshot. I like to travel quite light, so no big rucksacks for me. I rather want a Press Vest to enhance the 'U.N.' look - I am aware that this will increase my likelihood of being shot three-hundred fold. -
My friend does something really funny when he comes across another gun
rapier17 replied to helcol's topic in General Discussion
This is true, 'twas just my little joke. I do dislike seeing doors open everywhere and I'd much rather hide my presence in a village/town/city by keeping doors shut behind me. -
Rocket standing down from Dayz by end of year
rapier17 replied to Hetstaine's topic in General Discussion
Same. So far I've had over 55+ hours of entertainment out of it and will no doubt get many more hours fun from DayZ. Certainly not a waste of £20 from where I'm sitting. -

Likewise. I just do it because I dislike seeing doors open everywhere - let all the heat out! I do like to hide M4's I come across - just doing my bit for public safety. Who knows what could happen if some murderous thug got hold of one? -

Dean's off in about 10-12 months time? Fair enough, good luck to him. -
The few I've written have had terrible jokes on them. As in really bad ones*. Often I end up leaving them laying around when I need the inventory space but I do try and carry one at all times. *Ship carrying red paint collides with a ship carrying blue paint. The crews were marooned.

What Is Your Hangout Spot Where Do You Prefer To Spend Your Time
rapier17 replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
Walking the railway line that runs East-West in the Northern part of the map. That's where I like to spend my time. -
You make a left-handed option in the character development menu.
rapier17 replied to Johnny Depth's topic in General Discussion
Even as a left-handed person I'm not for having left-handed avatars - would much rather time and effort was spent in other areas. Which actually works out a bit better for a left-handed person. When a left-handed person holds a longarm such as a rifle the same way as a right-handed person would they will potentially have slightly better control over the weapon as their left-hand will have greater motor control than their right. In essence the dominant left-hand will stop the muzzle moving around so much. -
This, I find, is the way to go. The Courier Bag is great because it has a low silhouette, fits in with grassy areas and woodland and it forces you to be selective with what you take and what you leave behind.

Nope, that's utterly incorrect*. Waterproofed military clothing uses the same waterproofing barriers as waterproof civilian coats do - it's often either a treatment with a solution soaked into the material (often closer to water resistant) or a membrane lining the material (such as the world famous Gore-Tex, although brands of outdoor clothing often have their own versions - Berghaus AquaFoil, Lowe Alp[ine Triplepoint Ceramic, North Face Hyvent to name three). What the membrane will do is act as a barrier preventing cold moisture and wind from penetrating through to the wearer whilst allowing warm moisture (sweat) to transfer out from within the garment - so long as the outer layer is 'beading' - this is where a solution is used to prevent immediate penetration of the outer material by rain and moisture so that there isn't a layer of cold wet material preventing the warm moisture from escaping. Outdoor clothing, as in that intended to be used for activities such as walking, trekking, climbing, mountaineering and so on tends to be incredibly tough and hardwearing - I work currently as a builders labourer and as such my clothing takes quite a large amount of wear. The pair of trousers I use consistently are a 12-year old pair of Berghaus 'Activity Trousers' that frankly I've used constantly over the years, ever since I purchased them at my first job which was with an outdoor clothing retailer in 2002. None of the military surplus trousers I've owned have lasted a quarter of that time even when not used for work. Military =/= Better *EDIT: I should have put this as 'Actually they can be'. I went off on one and went back and rewrote bits and... didn't touch the first line, so my apologies for that.

Why are you against many military items in game?
rapier17 replied to CrazyCorky's topic in General Discussion
Weapons, webbing and military equipment I'd like to see less of but camouflage clothing is quite a common thing in my opinion - plenty of military surplus out there owned by civilians. If anything I'd like to see the variety of camouflage varied - British DPM, German Flecktarn, US 'Tigerstripe' or Woodland etc.
