    How was your Day(Z)?

Started hungry and spent 30 minutes going from empty boring house to empty boring house looking for food. I eventually found food but no decent gear. Ran in-land to find gear and after another 30 mins, i had some new clothes, a pistol with no ammo and an empty stomach. Looting a town for food again, i saw a group of three players who instantly raised their superior automatic rifles and mowed me down without a second thought. Ended my day z experience thinking that the current content and features are not what i expect from a zombie survival game and I've decided not to play this open world death match version until modders have the ability to turn this game into what it should be.
  2. Good point. Maybe a simple fix is that if you get killed in the your base, you can't spawn back there for 1 hour.

I get what you are saying but the same could be said for high performance weapons. They deter people from interacting on a personal level and instead encourage them to KOS out of fear of loosing their gear. Rather than assuming the worst, can we just have a discussion how this could work? I agree with your opinion on how skills should work. Additionally, repairing ruined weapons/items and the ability to cook food that gives a small boost to a character, are both examples of new skills that do not gate current features and do not give any overwhelming advantages. I could be wrong but i think that if worthwhile skills were in the game, people (even bandits) would be encouraged to work/interact with other players. And i do not think it is necessarily a bad thing that people become more cautious about getting into a gun fight, as this is what i imagine a zombie Apocalypse would be like.

I think you are seeing things in my post that aren't there... If you want to play on the beach - good for you. I'm not proposing that changes. Secondly, i see Day z multiplayer experience more akin to an MMO than an typical shooter like Battlefield for example. Obviously there are a lot of MMO that have a skill system that allows you to customise your character over time. Levelling up can also be seen in casual games that allow you to unlock new abilities/items as you reach new miles stones. I don't know why we have to look at other games to be able to discuss the practicalities for this game. For me this is a zombie Apocalypse simulator were the goal is to survive long term. That experience is improved by adding in more long-term goals e.g. farming, base building, creating safer communities and developing your abilities over time. For other people it's a battle royal PVP game that just happens to have zombies. I honestly don't know why anyone would have a problem with adding a non combat related skill system to the game. Perhaps you could explain?

The term endgame content refers to activities vetran players/characters can do to keep them engaged . It is not in reference to completing the game. I'm not sure what you mean about mitigating social interacting with skill points... I simple think the ability to level up your character create a lot of value. It would actually increase social interaction, as player characters would be a resource as opposed to just a PVP target.

That's a shame and it is flawed thinking. It shouldn't be looked at as forcing people to do something, rather it's the addition of endgame content that increases player investment and adds more consequences to engaging in battle. To be clear, i don't think any combat related hard/soft skill should be in game but if you max out electronics, for example, you could have the ability to repair ruined electrical equipment... This would also help to develop an economy and player made trade system.
  7. Yeah I like the idea but i'm not sure it will stop KOS... I'm not 100% sure what but something extra is needed to stop KOS. Right now the goal seems so be - get geared and use that gear to kill people, because what else are you going to do with it?! I incentives to not KOS could come in the form of mods but i hope the developers add something more to deter this play style. Maybe the solution is to make the environment a bigger threat than players, to force people to work together. e.g. roaming zombies, more zombies around high value loot areas or an NPC bandit faction.

Hopefully they change it so you can max out multiple skills. There should also be some unique abilities that you can perform if you max out a skill.
  9. I think i good compromise could come when base building is added... When base building gets implemented i would like it if they added a feature that lets you spawn at a base/camp that you and friends have established. This would allow you to more easily meet up with friends but it would also provide extra gameplay for the greater community who could hunt for and destroy your base. To stop it becoming overpowered, you could limit spawning at a base to only when a condition is met. For example, when a special lantern is lit. This way people could stop you spawning in.

Dont wanna make new thread?Use this!

Also, does anyone know if the developers are planning to add stats buffs to the game. Like faster blood regen for performing the sleep animation for a long time or having increased stamina when you are well fed?
  11. I do not agree. The difficulty of surviving long enough to reach your goal (meet a friend) is part of the experience. You should not always be able to rely on safety in numbers.

First time playing again after a long time and i have a couple questions/comments: 1. It annoys me when i try to open a door and it opens in on me and pushes me out the way. Is this just the way it is or could it be changed for the final game? The ability for doors to open both ways would be preferred. 2. The new zombie sounds are pretty bad and i would prefer the old sounds back. 3. Is a solution being worked on for not being able to hide in tall grass, due to grass not rendering at long ranges.
  13. No. The last time i played it, the SA is basically the same as the original mod. The are mods out there that are way better than the SA experience so i wish i hadn't payed for SA.

    Rolling Update Rev. 0.30.114008

Will controller support be improved in the near future? It seems a lot worse than in the original mod and i find it harder to play with mouse and keyboard.
  15. Because the developers didn't put good enough incentives to not shoot on sight.

Nah, you just need to get out more. It's definitely a game. Complexity and realism are fun in games but you can only take it so far... until someone invents a matrix like pc...

Well it is a game... I wouldn't still be playing day z if the bandit and hero skins hadn't been added. Besides, you will notice in a lot of apocalypse based films/games that the "good guys" and "bad guys" have a distinct appearance. Really it's just a uniform and even in the real world, communities adopt the same appearance as their friends/family (i.e. fashion) in an effort to identify them selves as belonging to a group or to fit in.

I was thinking about something similar... * Heroes could be more resistance to disease and have and increased chance of finding medical loot * Bandits could have a higher chance of catching a disease by have a high chance of finding military loot Unfortunately from what i understand, the new loot spawn mechanic wouldn't allow for a system like that.

Obviously morality can't be the only reason not to shoot someone but it helps. I like playing as a hero and i try not to shoot survivors or other heroes but i'll shoot bandits on sight. That is a fun and meaning full game mechanic that tries to bring order to the chaos. ps. I've yet to see a zombie in the deep woods.

Yeah the devs can stick to that and hope for the best if they want, I was just describing a game mechanic that could curb the impulse to shoot anything that moves. The threat of zombies swarming you if you start shooting could work but the threat has to be balanced on both sides. By that i mean people shooting from the woods should attract just as many zombies as someone shooting in a city... But how do you do that? spawn zombies near gun shots? We all like a bit of realism in our games but there comes a point where you have to focus on making a good game, and suggest joining the army to anyone that wants 100% realism.

Like i said initially, the 90% chance that the cure is destroyed if you shoot and kill the guy...

DayZ Developer Blog 3rd August 2013

So your character has a disease that he will die of in a couple of days but instead of trying to secure a cure from another player, you would just shoot the guy on the off chance that he might have some NVGs? I guess people with that mind set will never change their play style but for most normal people, a system like this would encourage people to think before they shoot. So many people in the games media comment on how the majority of games involve a gun as being your primary method of interacting with the world but Day z could be so much more.

Maybe disease could b really common and infectious and if you shoot someone who has the cure in their inventory, there is a 90% chance of that item becoming unusable/broken.

^ I think an expanded morality system could help curb the tendency to KoS.

So which do you want? Personally i play day z for the zombie Apocalypse experience and not the battle royal with zombies experience you get in the vanilla mod. edit: If i honest, i hope SA is made for people who are of the same mind as me because there are plenty of games that let you shoot people for no reason already.
