To me it sounds like people what two different games... On one side you have people who want a team death-match with looting and zombies and of the other side you have people that want an authentic zombie apocalypse game/sim. I just hope the SA can cater to both crowds.
-
It depends on what systems they add in the future. Eventually i would like to see the ability to grow crops on farms... well i have zombies to kill and guns to loot so i'm going to need slaves to tend to my fields :P
-
Ah okay, that's good to know. Thanks! I hope that a person that only uses knives has different abilities. e.g. unique stances, combat rolling, quicker movement, throwing knives etc.
-
also, if you are going to go for to the trouble of introducing a hostage system, you need to introduce blindfolds.

Graphically the game looks pretty but other than that, i'm kind of underwhelmed. Dean Hall: "Guns are the levels in this game". Not for me. For me, guns are the thing i spend hours finding and then they get taken away from me in a second because some guy shoots me in the head because there is no other way to interact with people. I've been playing a mod (origins) that has a really good humanity system and i think it even effects the stats/abilities of your character. That is a leveling system. THIS GAME NEEDS MELEE! In this teaser video you could see a guy crouch-moving without a gun and it looked like he had a lower/stealthier than people with guns. It would be amazing if this player could be a melee expert and have special abilities with knives. Dean seem pretty much against the idea of creating quests in game which i think is a mistake. Raiding NPC bases is a great incentive for people to interact in more meaningful ways and provides different gameplay options. Ultimately, i think the SA faces some stiff competition from the day z modding community which seems stage to say... I know many of you will not agree with me but i don't need you to. This is just my honest opinion, like it or lump it.

July Round-up: "I want the alpha" < "I want the alpha to be good"
Rek Seven replied to SmashT's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Yeah that's a fair point about the chopper but then again, how do you know my character isn't ex-military? Helicopters aside, I won't play the SA until it has a lots of vehicles on the map and some goals (e.g. base building) because to me, that is key to the experience and i wouldn't be interested in day z anyone if it wasn't for mods like origins... So yeah, IMO rocket should take his time to deliver a worthwhile game. BeatSTV, what's the name of the mod with farming? -
July Round-up: "I want the alpha" < "I want the alpha to be good"

Personally i don't care where the content comes from as long as it culminates in to a good game. Also, i think being able to build bases and repair helicopters is far more realistic that not being able to do it at all. For me, day Z is a game about continuing to live in a post apocalyptic world and without any progression (i.e.base building, vehicle repairs) the game is just another shooter... To push that idea even further, i'm holding out for the addition of crop farming and the ability to force NPC/players to work on your farm  -

Yeah the developers should take their time with the SA if they need to. To be honest, i doubt they the SA will live up to my expectations anyway. Hacking and connection issues aside, the thing that pissed me off the most was the lack of vehicles and some sort of base building mechanic and since the SA won't have either of those features, i doubt i'll even bother with the SA until it's finished. If recently deserved Day Z: Origins which does pretty much all i want, so i'll just play that :) Good luck o/ -

I don't appreciate your condescending tone... I guess the developer never said he expected the SA to be out months ago. That must have been a dream. I never said Day z was my dream game but it's the closest thing to it I've played so far. Look i'm sorry if i don't want to sit around on these forums all day acting as you, the self important know it all but as i said, i got tired of hanging around here dealing with pricks like you in the vein hope that i could get some new information, so forgive me if i don't pay 100% attention to a 1 hour video that, apparently, isn't even a true representation of the upcoming release. -

Okay so i listened to the questions and answers section again ( i glossed over it the first time because the 80's music pissed me off so much). I have a couple of suggestions: "Zombie swarms" - I'm assuming this will be something like a 20 zombie roaming gang. Will these zombies be the same as the normal type (i.e. running at Olympic speeds, zig-zagging all over the place and leaping 5ft to drop kick you to the ground)? Melee - Will we be able to punch and rifle but in the SA? Maybe even use riot shields? Will there be any goals/mission type activities in SA? Things requiring multiple survivors to complete would give people more ways to interact other than shooting each other. Will there be NPCs? Maybe i can capture NPCs slaves to work in the fields for me or i could, Moses style, set someone else slaves free. -

Watched the Rezzed video? I'm sorry if i missed it but i didn't hear Rocket mention the zombie spawn mechanic... I was lead to believe that i would be playing this game by now but it seems to get pushed back further and further so i gave up trolling the forums for information and reading dev blogs about how beans can be found under beds now. I'm sorry if you are frustrated but i don't live and breath this shit. I just want to play my dream game. If you can point me to a single source that tells me everything i need to know about the stand alone, i'll be happy to read it. -

Hmm the more is see of day z standalone, the less i like it. Having live radio in an apocalyptic world is about the most immersion breaking thing i've seen in a game. These radios should only be for player communication and detracting zombies. I was hoping that in the stand alone we would see an improved zombie spawn and behavior system but it looks like little has changed... I want to go into a town full of zombies, clear it out with some other survivors, and then cordon the area off so they couldn't get back in until they overwhelmed our barricades. The last thing i'm not keen on is the new zombie diving attack. It looks like there might be some issues with collision detection and it could be overpowered, especially if they can cut you or break bones while you are running away... but i' guess i'll have to wait for more info on that. Graphics and improved items aside; i'm not impressed. Needs more game play additions. -
I have no doubt that this has been suggested in the past so i'm not here to make a suggestion, instead i would like to know the reasons. Why are vehicles and tents tied to the server and not to the player the same way inventory items are? If it was done like this, then tents and saved vehicles wouldn't load into the environment until the player that saved them entered a server. I would guess that this would be lees demanding on the servers (But idk for sure) and we wouldn't end up with hundreds of abandoned tents clogging up the more popular servers. Answer/thoughts?

I've just been watching some GDC videos and saw something called War z... Is this the stand alone version of day z? If so it looks awesome. The graphics and animations look way better than what we have now :)

Should we remove barbed wire in the next update
Rek Seven replied to mattlightfoot's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
What a stupid question... fix and improve it fool -
The game should really have more cars spawns in. This way fuel would be a resource people fight over.
-
lol flawed logic. As soon as you pay money to get a specific thing (the free cheese burger) it is not free. But this is a stupid argument... Please continue with the day z mod update chatter.
-
Hey, i know it was my choice to buy the game, i'm not disputing that but saying "oh well the mod was free so what are you complaining about" doesn't stand up when thousands of people only recently bought arma for Day z.
-
Mc Donalds if giving away free cheese burgers, all you have to do it pay a £15 admission fee... Are the burgers still free?
-
Odd that you don't get humanity by killing bandits

Would you play Dayz without Zombies?
Rek Seven replied to Flavalicious's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So you want a multiplayer games where people shoot other people... That's never been done. -
That's funny because i distinctly remember buying Arma specifically to play Day Z... This doesn't make Day z free in my mind. I'm tired of the graphics glitches going crazy, obscuring my view only for some hacker to spawn in on me and shoot me in the face. I just want to play this as a co-op game now with a few friends. Let me host private games!
-
After playing the Day z mod, i would only pay £10 for the game. Currently it's not a good enough game to warrant a monthly fee and buying in-games items for real money makes zero sense for day z.

finally done with this game (at least for some weaks)
Rek Seven replied to CommanderBoiled's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah I’m pretty much done with the game too. I had a good time with it at first but there aren’t enough gameplay features to make this a long lasting and entertaining game. I though Day Z was the game I’ve always wanted but really, it turns out that it is just “Battle Royal” with zombies... And the zombies might as well not be there. In the day z I really want, zombies would be the real threat not players. They would be such a big threat that survivors are almost force to work together if they want to survive. Secondly, the survivors need something to work like base building and skilling up their persistent character. All this would make the game feel like a true zombie apocalypse survival game for me. -
I read a book which told me how to make bear traps and sandbags (turns out you just put sand in a bag) does this mean I allowed to duplicate these items to simulate manufacturing them? I only ask because i remember the developer saying that Arma is supposed to be a game where if you can do it in real life (read the stars to navigate) you should be able to do it in game.
