I'd pay for the old Taviana map, that one was really fun / balanced. Livonia, meh, not so much.

How do you handle other survivors?

They have no Karma system. There's no incentive to be friendly other than RP. If you try to be friendly, you will die A LOT. If you are always hostile, you will live A LOT longer. I wish it was different, but with the current setup, I always KOS everyone. -
This is why I liked the old DayZ Mods. Food, ammo, weapons were much more plentiful. I like the PVP aspects of DayZ. I really dislike spending HOURS and HOURS and HOURS trying to gear up so I can PVP for a short period before I die....lol

Yeah, bears in H1Z1 were no joke....lol If you aggro'd one without a house to duck into or a LONG railing you could jump over, you were dead meat. At some point they made bears into a joke, and that made me sad. I had a lot of fun hearing and yelling "hey, what was..........BEAR.........BEAR BEAR BEAR..............NO don't bring it to me you idiot, run AWAY"......lol I hope DayZ bears are like the original H1Z1 bears. I'll be sad if it's like nerfed H1Z1 bears.

I really enjoyed Lingor and Taviana from the old mod. I wish there were more map choices. I really really liked Taviana. Good loot locations, good ambush positions, wide variety of terrain and road networks, and also the road networks generally made SENSE (like most roads going through a town went straight through).

Yeah, I agree they degrade too quickly. It goes from being something you have to "do occasionally" to "a chore to complete on a regular basis". In real life I don't buy new shoes until the previous ones are toast. To the point where the soles are starting to get slick. I've never had to duct tape my shoes together once a day.....lol

Some observations on sickness

I wish the sickness system had more UI explanation. Like "you got sick from tainted water" or "you got sick from uncooked food". That would at least tell you what to do to mitigate it in the future. -

idea to help make the game longevity last

A lot of games have random missions that pop up across the map. Not in-depth story ones, but "go here, kill this, get loot". Some of my favorite moments in the DayZ mod were doing the random missions. Either to rush in there, get the loot, and leave..............or camp and wait for people to come. Both are really fun. Rush in and get the loot is very tense. Camping is enjoyable, but you very rarely can get the loot because other people will camp on your camping.....lol -
That's what I use. By far my favorite DayZ map :) You not only get a good scrollable map, it has loot icons as well!

I remember bears in H1Z1. They were deadly monsters if they aggro'd on you. I can't wait, we need bears in DayZ!
