Strange micro-stutters in FPS while playing DayZ
landstriker replied to john_blund's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Try having a look over at the official BI forums: http://forums.bistudio.com/forumdisplay.php?83-ARMA-2-amp-OA-TROUBLESHOOTING The community over there is really friendly and have helped me loads in the past figuring out game and hardware related issues. :) -
Can't download Arma beta patch
landstriker replied to x7steelers7x's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I tried downloading the patch myself, but i keep getting the same error as you mentioned. I'm guessing that the servers are currently overloaded. -
Some times you might also have trouble picking up a pack should it be laying on top of other loot. An easy fix is to pick up the other loot first, then you should be able to select the backpack(s). :)

Am I the luckiest newbie player?

I presume (I could be completely off), but neither one of us have ever met a zombie in real life (apart from the last time i woke up with a chick i met at a local pub) so it's kind of hard to say if they would be "fast" or "slow". I feel that the current system works perfect. I still scream like a girl (no offense to any of the DayZ women out there) every time I get hunted by a zombie. Anyways, to my point: I feel that the current system works great, the zombies (although they respawn to quick) are just as scary as I would imagine them to be.

I run my game on the lowest settings, with AA and VS disabled. I've also disabled shadows. I got a 260GTX running on a i7 920 2,6gz 8GB Ram, on 1920x1080 (native resolution). My frames average from 30-25 in town areas, but can plummet down to 15 during day time. It's still playable, but I'm just waiting for the 580GTX to drop even further in pricing.

Those looking for heavy immersion
landstriker replied to dark_cloud's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Lol. I feel that the "alt" button works just as good, not to mention it's a lot cheaper. I keep frantically trying to hit the very same button each time i dip into other shooters. -
I tried to come up with some text for this image, but I'm blank. Some really nice artwork in here already, can't wait to see more of it :)

The Buddy System [Friend spawning mechanism]
landstriker replied to zackb101's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Being "spoiled" in games such as the "Battlefield" series, I tend to think that it would have been nice with some sort of spawn system. However, I am completely against people being able to spawn on each other. Instead I think that it could have been nice with certain areas that people can spawn to (within a larger radius). Lets say you have 4-5 zones each spread around the island. Within these zones, you could choose a spawn location. To prevent people being "spawn raped", each player would have a 2 minute "spawn protection". Anyways, I'm just tossing out some ideas here :) -
Story of the Cherno Safehouse
landstriker replied to Greasymullet's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm glad to see that there is still a few decent people out there who are brave and willing to help someone out in dire need. Good read, great work my friend. I remember when playing the mod for the first time 3 weeks ago, people were a lot friendlier. Now a days, people tend to shoot you on sight. We've adapted to that in our group and make sure that our group stays safe. Should you be looking for a casual crowd to join up with, toss me a PM and I will send you our details for Teamspeak. :) Lloyd -

Porting Dayz into SP-COOP Campaign
landstriker replied to blackbeard06's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Adding some sort of "AI bandit" system to possible "DayZ co-op" could work. You could have solo "bandits" placed around camps, forest and towns. The player(s) would still have to worry about food and not being shot by the "bandits". Using the same system like now, if you got shot, you die. -
Why does this game have so many idiots?
landstriker replied to Kirvin's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
@OP: I think you might be trying to "RP" in a mod that currently doesn't have a proper system, nor mercy for those who "just want to be friendly and help out others". You might be as someone already mentioned, better off doing so in a group. -
The influx of new players to DayZ hasn't changed much for the more "hardcore" crowd of the ArmA 2 community. The people I know that play Arma 2 on a regular basis dip into DayZ for a little while before heading back to OA Ace Domination. Rarely have I heard or seen the other way around. Once new players gets used to how the game mechanic system works in Day (backpacks, compass, weapons.etc) they would have no problem understanding Arma 2 vanilla or OA.

We've decided to open up for a few more members, so should you be interested, send me a PM and we'll take things from there :) -
Well put together, beautiful pictures and a nice read. I too wouldn't mind flying over Chernarus, seeing how other players were doing or what they were up to.

How do you survive as a lone wolf?
landstriker replied to The Killing Joke's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I kinda forget that DayZ is a game some times. I generally tend to play the game like if i where actually in the midst of it. You wanna survive, you don't want to take any chances. Watch your surroundings, don't run into a town or an area before you've checked it out beforehand. I normally wait a few minutes, often up to 10 minutes before entering larger populated areas. Set yourself a goal, go for it and then get out. No reason staying back in an area for a longer period of time. Crouch, prone, sneak. Do whatever you can to stay undetected. If you hear shots, check it out or leg it. -
I like knowing that there could be someone watching me and my group running the woods. It puts that extra "tension" to the game. It's not like every player wears one, but do be aware that if you should spot someone wearing one, hes normally not alone. In such case, just leg it!

IMO, I see nothing that the dev did other than explaining over and over why they didn't want you running DayZ on your server at this time. He was being polite all the way through.
