Maybe I missed it but do Community servers require a wipe. I have a couple modified files on my private server and was able to get in a few minutes ago but was kicked. Just making sure it wasn't due to a conflict in one of the files, wipe required or server issues. Thanks.

Something happened with one of the latest updates. Cars are experiencing periodic lag / freezing worse than it's ever been. I'm on PS5 as well and have Internet speeds exceeding 300/11. It was always super smooth on PS5 but now it's sometimes worse than it was back in the earlier days on my PS4. All the improvements in that regard (server performance) seemed to have been one huge step back. I submitted a trouble ticket (if that helps?) as have several other I have noticed after the 1.2 update. .....I know we're not the only ones. I looked at the 1.21 notes on what's being fixed improved and saw nothing about addressing this so I may have to rethink renting a server and stepping away from DayZ yet again for a few months. .....it's a shame.

Yes. I have rented a server for my friends and I who are more interested in PvE with minimal modifications. We recently revisited DayZ because of the updates since the last we played and were taken aback by the horrible "lag spikes" while driving. ....a problem that was resolved long ago for us when we had upgraded to external SSD's and then, eventually PS5's. We are sorely disappointed by this set back as the problem is like it was back when we were on PS4's with internal HDDs and freezes that would last 10-20 seconds. In fact, the freezes are actually worse now and more frequent. Last night I crashed several times because of lag and the duration was (at times) 30 seconds or more. What's funny is that the night started out "ok". ....not good, but "ok" with frequent stutters. You literally have to drive ~20 KPH or less to avoid serious injury. Damage is still possible and we actually 2 tires and had to repair them twice (each) before the night was through. It's at the point where a somewhat fun session was completely ruined by this problem. .....and to think I'm paying for it with the server rental. There is really no excuse for this IMO. They always seem to break something with new updates. It feels like one step forward and then two steps back. It's my understanding that the problem becomes a problem due to the fact that vehicles are handled server-side vs. locally? ....and that it wasn't always this way (i.e. ARMA2). The external SDD had an impact on performance as did the PS5 which made a huge difference. What changed with the latest update(s) to cause this? I submitted a trouble ticket but as usual, I have never heard anything back. Hell, I'm even willing to help any way I can if it can assist in determining the problem. It's not my internet as it's never changed and in fact is fast than ever with >300+/11+ speeds (rental server is local). If this persists, I will let this month's rental lapse and take another siesta for several months (perhaps permanent this time). .....it's come to the point of being that "game-breaking" now which is a real shame as we really enjoy this game. To add insult to injury, servers now cost $16 vs. $13 when I last rented one. Not much but certainly not worth it for what is essentially a broken game.

I have listed the answers to your question below in bold and red: before buying this game is it still supported on the ps4 and will it get new updates. - Yes. The game is still supported on PS4. does it have server wipes at end of each month. - No, but they recently announced that server wipes may come with each new update. .....so instead of every month, perhaps once every 3 months or more. In fact, they just had one for the first time in many months that I can recall. .....and I believe it was more out of necessity due to the changes. which is a total con. - That's debatable as many have requested BI to have them at least periodically which I'm sure led to their decision to do them with the updates going forward. is the world empty no zombies in the game as i read they remove them - Where did you read that? No, there are and have always been zombies or "infected" as they are called in the game. The only way to play the game without them (barring any glitches / problems) is to rent your own server and modify the files to exclude them. also what happen to the patch which was suppose to let you play offline play. - What patch for solo play? This is the first I've heard of it. DayZ is multiplayer only. However, again, if you rent a server you can dictate who plays on it. ......so if you were so inclined, you could play in the game by yourself. I rent one and it's just my close friends and I who are on it. We play it as a PvE and if we want, we can hop on a public server and do PvPvE. and is this a game that you need to eat and drink all the time. - Yes and if you're not careful, you can get sick from drinking from tainted sources or not washing your hands after handling meat, etc. It's a hard core survival game based off of a hardcore, milsim title called ARMA 2. It was a mod and then eventually turned into a stand-alone game. ....so yeah, DayZ is as about as hardcore as you're going to get and with that, a lot of things that many will see as mundane tasks just to survive. Sounds like you're not too familiar with DayZ. I'd watch some beginner tutorials on YT before pulling the trigger. This game is not for everyone and unless you're already into some of the other hardcore survival games and like that kind of thing, you may want to pass.

No, I haven't bought the Livonia expansion although it is on sale right now. Frankly, I never though it was worth the price given how unfinished this game still is. ....it also bothered me quite a bit that they didn't spend that time fixing what's broken first. .....and then charging people for it.
-
It's been ok. I rent my own server from time to time and just got a PS5 recently. Huge difference in the gameplay as most of the performance issues are essentially non-existent now. .....although some glitches still persist. It's nice though as frame rates are a constant 30 FPS without any drops. Cars still have problems but way less buggy. I can travel regularly at high speeds with maybe a small hiccup or two. Still have problems when driving in 3rd person though as it leads to more glitches than in 1st person.
-
Looking at my original "types" file, it appears all tents (e.g. Large, Medium, Car, Party, etc.) are all set at a lifetime value of 3,888,000 seconds or 45 days.
-
Yeah..... I had a few hours to play DayZ last night on my PS5. Huge difference and while the frame rate is capped at 30 FPS, it's very consistent at that limit. .....smooth. That in itself makes a world of difference in the gameplay. The stutters, etc. that I was experiencing on the PS4 are essentially gone. I can actually drive in 3rd person now with far fewer problems. Targets are easier to line up, etc. simply because the frame rate isn't dropping like it used to. Loading into sessions is very quick as is rendering. The bugs are still there but I haven't been running into the glitches that were performance related. It's been great so far.
-
I still play and still rent a server. This was more of an update for anyone who is interested. I also have taken time off from the game myself but have come back from time to time. Lately, things have been running well enough for us so I've been keeping up with it. If the PS5 improves the performance like I've seen that it has for many others (framerate stability, etc.), then that will breathe even more life into it for me.
-
fyi.... I finally was able to order a PS5 directly from the PS store. Once it gets here, I'll give my impression of the DayZ gameplay on it. I know we are capped at 30 FPS but as long as it's a consistent 30 FPS, I'll be happy. .....but IMO BI should make the necessary changes to raise that up to 60 or at least uncap it as that is a feature of the backward compatibility they could take advantage of if they wanted to. I have doubts they will though.
-
I play on PS4 and while I've experienced a multitude of various issues with vehicles, I can't say I've heard of that one. I'm not trying to dismiss your issue but there are problems of varying degrees that you can run into in this game and they aren't necessarily consistent among players on the same server, etc. I wouldn't expect any support from BI on this though, neither in this forum or on the support page. I've seen many posts including myself looking for solutions with no reply. You're only hope IME is that another customer will chime in and maybe have some sort of work-around. .....but like I said, this one is a little baffling to me. ....sorry.
-
You just ask this question last month? The answer hasn't really changed. I mentioned it before in that other thread but even the issues experienced by players aren't necessarily shared by all even on the same platform. If you're looking for guarantees of which would provide a better, more problem-free experience, no one can give you that. ....but as I said before, the nod probably goes to MS. Personally, I wouldn't buy any console just to play this game but if I did, it would be next gen. ....I wouldn't waste my money on last gen if you're looking for the best performance.
-
It doesn't but it's one way that can help avoid all of that depending on who is running the server. I rent my own that only myself, my friends and friends of friends can play on. Essentially, everyone is vetted in the sense that we already know who we are playing with and there is a level of trust that no one will cheat that you just can't get on a public server, etc. Before I started renting, I was playing on a community server that I was invited to join through Twitter IIRC when I simply asked. They had their own rules and vetted players. Anyone found cheating or breaking the server rules would be banned from the server. It was a great group of guys and we had a lot of fun. That's the cool thing about community servers is that you can control who is allowed to join and / or who isn't. You can also set the parameters, wipe the server when you want, track players, track events, etc. .....so, if moderated well, a community server can indeed be an alternative to public ones where dupers are allowed to roam free.
-
I rent a server and thought it was something I was screwing up in the files. Couldn't figure it out and wasted a lot of time on trying to figure it out but its good to see it wasn't something I was doing wrong. Not sure how relevant this is anyhow since truck batteries don't deplete. I actually prefer it that way as it makes no sense that they would when driven (quite the opposite). ....but does this mean that they will now deplete with every start up like the cars do? Any word on the inventory issues being fixed that were introduced from this update? We can no longer use the square button to transfer items to our inventory from dead zombies, etc. You either need to drop them down to the ground first or use "X" to drag them to inventory, hands, etc.
-
Yes, there is aim assist but it only works on zombies, not other players. .....unless something has changed since I posted those remarks you quoted from over a year ago. The OP was talking about being shot by another player and that was what I was addressing. Not my video but this explains it:

2nd time a car glitch has gotten me killed.
Kean__1 replied to SDS Juggernaut's topic in New Player Discussion
If you got any ideas, yes.....that would be greatly appreciated. I've tried a couple tracking apps, etc. but still miss out. It's literally within seconds sometimes. ....and yes, fully understand the benefits on the new hardware and limitations of the old in regard to DayZ. They never really optimized the game to run on PS4 and it struggles to keep up with the demand. Although I didn't buy it for the game, the external SSD I bought helped. It wasn't long after I discovered the cars worked better for me. -

Kean__1 replied to SDS Juggernaut's topic in New Player Discussion
IIRC, they mentioned the possibility of releasing a next gen version of DayZ so maybe they'll wait until then to make it more enticing for PS players. There are ways to optimize it with backward compatibility but like you alluded, they probably aren't motivated at this point to put the money / resources to make that happen. Seems they did the bare minimum to make sure it would run on PS5. -

Kean__1 replied to SDS Juggernaut's topic in New Player Discussion
My point was that those of us that want to upgrade probably would have already done it had we been able to get our hands on one. Others may not be willing or able to afford the purchase just to play avoid some of these issues in DayZ. I wish I could find on as I've been trying since it released. Yeah, the bugs aren't going away but the performance issues are greatly improved or non-existent in some cases when running on the next gen consoles. I've watched a couple videos where the frame rate rarely fluctuates from 30FPS and when it does, it's negligible. It's what @etaab describes. Car issues for those that I watched had either improved or been essentially resolved. .....but I wouldn't make any guarantees at this point in that regard. Most of these issues have proven to be inconsistent among PS4 players as it is. Personally, I don't have nearly as many issues on PS4 with vehicles as my friends. I used to, but not anymore. ....driving in first person though. DayZ will be one of the first games I'll try out once I get my hands on a PS5. -

Kean__1 replied to SDS Juggernaut's topic in New Player Discussion
Are you being facetious? Like many others, if I could find one I would have had one already. ......but yeah, it's true the game runs way smoother on the new hardware. Too bad they haven't done what they could to remove the 30FPS cap on the PS. -
want to start playing game, cant afford pc, so xbox or ps4?
Kean__1 replied to Wavydavey's topic in New Player Discussion
No problem. For what it's worth, I *think* the XB1 would be the better between the two to run DayZ just from what I've seen people say. They apparently don't suffer from as many of the problems some PS4 users do then again, I've learned that if the old saying "your mileage may vary" ever to applied to a scenario, this is it. Not everyone on PS4 suffers from the same common issues and I'm assuming it's the same on XB1. I guess for you, it's just a matter of which one has fewer instances of these problems and I'm afraid I can't answer that with any certainty. Personally, I run a private server on the PS4 version. It's a love / hate relationship though. -

Kean__1 replied to Wavydavey's topic in New Player Discussion
I wouldn't buy a particular console based on one game but if it was a toss up between the two, XB1 may be a better performer in that regard. If you're looking at next gen, either the XBX or PS5 would do notably better although DayZ on PS5 is currently capped at 30 FPS. ....but that's not due to a limitation of the hardware. BI can make the necessary changes to allow the PS5 to run the game at higher frame rates within the backward compatible format and they just might in the future. They have said they are entertaining the idea of a next gen version so who knows. In either case, the game still has glitches / bugs that persist on console regardless. ....the next gens will just run it better so at least those performance issues simply aren't as big of a problem. Personally, I'm on PS4 and the frame rate drops can be annoying as well as the bugs. I'm still looking for a PS5. Playing DayZ at a consistent 30FPS would be a huge improvement in itself. I was watching a couple YT videos showing PS5 gameplay in various scenarios with the frame rate shown on the screen. It rarely deviated from 30 FPS even in the large cities, with swarms of zombies, etc. ....and when it did drop, it was maybe a couple FPS at worst which was really imperceptible. Driving was also improved in those scenarios but that's no guarantee that would would be a consistent result for everyone. -
.....not to mention the weapon sway which they increased a while back. It feels unnatural and unrealistic. It should be dependent on the stamina bar and should settle down when it fills back up. .....with it being basically still when holding your breath. Worse than in any other game I've played and nowhere near real life for a game that is supposed to take such things into account.

I need help with the xml files of my dayz PS4 server
Kean__1 replied to futuregon's topic in New Player Discussion
This post is 4 months old and I'm sure the OP has already found their answers but I would echo @Skyblue7708's recommendation of watching Scalespeeder Gaming's YT videos. They helped me tremendously and even pointed me to tools that helped me set up my own server like DSSC, Notepad++, etc. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCTGhcBU2SPZkE4NLraqTIog Highly recommended if you want to get a better understanding of how to tweak and understand these files. I already knew enough to adjust things on my server but learned so much more after watching his videos. I have a much better understanding of how things work and I'm able to do so much more now. -

2nd time a car glitch has gotten me killed.
Kean__1 replied to SDS Juggernaut's topic in New Player Discussion
The vehicles definitely have issues but in the scenarios you describe, I'd say you tempted fate and lost. I would have left the car stuck in the tree and not drove off the map. .....personally. Having said that, there are plenty of instances this game will kill you with glitches under what should be normal circumstances. .....like the times when your car may flip up in the air unexpectedly, clip through the map, freeze and then crash, etc. With the introduction of the new update, we've consistently had troubles with vehicles "flipping out" while removing or adding wheels to them. ......especially the trucks. I have almost died twice being hit. I already died once in an Olga randomly launching into the air and rolling around since the last TU. Cars have become more unstable it seems. .....at least for us so we have been sticking to trucks for the most part.
