Is "stopping" when bringing up the weapon wheel a bug or is it supposed to function that way?

How to empty plastic bottles to fill them with safe water? Cook water with meat to make it safe? PS4 V1.05

I agree and not really sure why it is that way. .....but it doesn't surprise me. Either way, I'll gladly take this over some of these other bugs, glitches and workarounds I have to put up with. -

It's designed that way. Some have asked that they make it an option though so you're not alone. -
Yeah thanks. I took a look before at it. Great to see what they added but unfortunately, it doesn't give an indicator as to what (if any) of the bugs they'll be addressing in regard to console. ....and that's really the crux of it isn't it? ....communication or lack thereof. I don't understand why they just can't tells us what they are currently looking to include in the 1.06 patch / update in that regard. It's funny.... On Twitter they waited until today to create an official Tweet to tell everyone the 11/13 release was incorrectly cited by another source. They pointed to an animated gif they made in response to the incorrect Tweet. .....not everyone reads the responses. Obviously they recognized than many were still under the assumption the patch/DLC was coming today. They read the replies and saw the responses of people continually reciting the date. On top of that, they state "We would like to remind everyone that we still haven't announced the release date for Livonia DLC. We will release it without a prior announcement, and it will be soon!" ......seriously? Seems they just can't bother to give people updates, status, etc. on such things. Feel like a dog under the dinner table waiting for errant scraps to hit the floor.

The lobby menu is definitely a mess and to be honest, I can see where this wouldn't make a good impression on newcomers. Hell, I'm still unimpressed with it and I've been playing since release. Instead of fixing the problems with it and / or making interface more friendly, they add menu music that I end up turning off anyway. My suggestion would be to use the favorites option where possible. If you go through the initial hassle to set it up for the servers you frequent, it can be a real time saver so you don't need to scroll through all those pages. There are a lot of bugs in this game that have been persistent problems for quite a few of us. Some you can work around but others you simply can't as they seem to happen at randoms times with triggers that are not necessarily repeatable. ....some you still have yet to discover that would likely bring your irritation level to the boiling point (e.g. cars). Relogging will sometimes help some of the problem you mention as will server restarts. ....the latter especially helping "unstick" items that get stuck in tents, cars, barrels, etc. Unfortunately, official servers only restart once a day IIRC and community servers will depend on the owner. I rent my own server so we can actually restart it anytime we like from my phone. ....which is usually once per session if at all. We tend to relog 1-5 times depending on how bad other issues are that day. .....it's not consistent. This one I have to disagree with you on. DayZ is a hardcore survival game. Even some of the more mundane tasks are represented here like reloading magazines in weapons, opening cans to eat (assuming you have the tools to do that), sickness / care, crafting, etc. These are things that are supposed to represent more "realistic aspects of life / survival. Now, I agree that some things could be made more user friendly like inventory management, auto stacking, etc., but looting in real life takes time. Personally, I don't care for the "vacuum" mechanic in some games and would really hate it in DayZ. In this game, everything you do is a calculated risk. You really need to consider the risk when searching buildings and such and yes, even looting dead bodies. You simply don't know who else is out there that may be thinking the same thing or possibly using the opportunity as a trap so they can take what you have. IMO, this is a the heart of what DayZ is all about. The unknown, the tension, risk vs. reward..... The inventory management while not perfect is deeper than most other games simply because that is what DayZ is all about. Everything needs to be considered in this game down to how you organize your gear. .....which is something I would always recommend doing often so you don't find yourself coming across a looting opportunity only to have to stand there exposed trying to make things fit. Well, there are the icons in the lower left hand corner of the screen. Once you understand how to interpret those, they are really good indicators as to the general health of your character. Blood loss needs to be stopped immediately. Again, this goes back to the inventory organization and preparedness. I always make sure I have enough rags on hand and I tie them into a space on my item wheel so they can be applied quickly when needed. Always check your status icons to make sure you're not bleeding after a fight. You can bleed out much quicker now so bandaging promptly is more important now than ever. If you play with a friend, it can really help if they assist as well when needed. Hospitals will have medicines that can help in these dire situations as well. Always be mindful of your footwear. Your shoes will wear out and when they are ruined, your feet will begin to get cut up. ....again, leading to blood loss if you're not careful. I always keep an extra pair on hand just in case. Also, learn to listen to your character. They will make noises sometimes that can indicate a problem (e.g. sickness, damage / bleeding, etc.). I have to say that's an exaggeration. You're in danger of becoming hyperthermic in a heavy rain or when you wade for while in water or submerge yourself. Skipping through puddle or even creeks hardly has an effect if at all. In either case, keep moving when wet, find shelter in rain or when things are bad, start a fire to help dry yourself off (which is really effective btw). You can also wring out some of your clothing. Containers to store water are usually one of those things at the top of my list. Your hands simply don't hold a lot of water. .....and again, there is an element of risk involved in taking on water that way from a well. This encourages players to find plastic bottles, pots, canteens, etc. and makes them all the more valuable in the game. I do agree regarding some aspect of the game like being locked into an animation, etc. however, what you call "stupid little mechanics" are at the heart of this game. I'm sorry to say but this is what DayZ is all about with its emphasis on hardocre survival. While some things can and do get streamlined for more simplicity (e.g. dropping items from your hands wa recently reintroduced), I'm afraid to say that the game is only going to get much deeper and "survival-centric" from here. In other words, the game is going to move further toward these "mechanics" than away from. Just wait until they bring back broken bones. I think some new players or those not familiar with DayZ's history get discouraged because they want to gloss over some of the "realism"/survival aspects while playing the game more as a milsim. DayZ started out as an ARMA mod. It was based on a milsim game but focuses on survival aspects. I hope you're able to find aspects of the game you like regardless. For me, it's the bugs that really get me down. Once those are addressed I actually hope they bring on more of the survival aspects and other components they removed long ago.

Glad to hear it worked out for you. I had no clue either until someone pointed it out to me. I've never had a problem drawing clean water from a well. When using unoure sources I will use chlorine tablets or even accept the hit if it's a life & death scenario especially if I have antibiotics on hand. Hospitals are usually some of the first buildings I try to search to obtain chlorine tablets and antibiotics. To be honest, I haven't caught an infection in a very long time. I also stopped drinking water from my hands to see if that could have been a possibility. Now I just use containers and take water onlty from wells. Not sure I would even go out of my way to boil water in this game but it would be interesting to see how it works out for you. Usually by the time I have the items to do something like that, I already have plenty of sodas, watecontainersrs and already visited a clean water source. -
1.06 is supposedly releasing alongside the new DLC. IMO, the fixes (or lack thereof) that apply to the base game will be the major determining factor whether my friends and I even consider the purchase. If the cars still suffer from lag spike crashes, if the inventory issues are still a problem, if the mag changes still glitch weapons, if my cars /equipment randomly despawn, etc., I won't even think about it and I'll likely shelve this game once a new title comes along that interests me. .....as well as cancel my server rental.
-
Yeah, I find sometimes things work and sometimes they don't. .....or they work better / more consistently some ways than others. .....or they should work certain ways but simply don't. Frustrating to say the least.
-
That's awful. You try to create something good and it gets ruined by small group of people. I have a server too but it's password protected. ...... something I guess you really can't manage on a server your size. They really need to include more server tools including the functions that you speak of.

I had a similar issue when I first tried but I think it was due to the ground I was on. I believe you need to be on a dirt, grass or similar surface (looking down) for the action to be displayed. I still run into this once in a while so I have to be careful to check that the action is available so I don't accidentally drink the contents. If you haven't already, I would try looking down and moving over different surfaces. As for boiling water for purification, I've heard mixed things about it but never tried it myself. I either use chlorine tablets or clean sources. -
Yeah..... I was in the game and saw that msg pop up several times briefly but couldn't read it as the text was too small and I couldn't get closer to the TV before it disappeared. I finally got kicked out and then for a period of time it wouldn't let me connect. .....something about an unknown error. Anyhow, all was fine after a bit.
-
Anyone else suddenly having issues connecting to their servers today?
-
Seems I'm back up now. I kept getting this little message in red in the middle of the screen but it disappeared before I could read it. .....really small text.
-
I notice that on my private server restarts solve a lot of these kinds of issues. I love the ability to do it from my phone and it only takes about 20 seconds. ....so we log off, restart and then log back on when things get stuck in inventory, etc.
-
Glad to hear it got sorted for you. Maybe when the server restarted again, eh?
-
Normally, you can empty it with a shovel as suggested but if it's set up by someone else, maybe that changes?

A Question For the More Experianced Players
Kean__1 replied to generalmayhem's topic in New Player Discussion
What the others said. ....although, in community servers (which I see you also mentioned) it doesn't go by the same rules. You can log out and back in without being relocated. However, your character is locked into that particular server. You have to create new ones on each that will remain there. Another option might be to find a server that has a shortened night cycle. I hated night time on official servers because you really didn't want to give your position away with a proper light source and it was often too risky in towns or areas with zombies. .....so, we would end up camping out in a house or similar until dawn. I wish the moon would illuminate your surroundings as it does in real life. I've been out in desolate areas under a full moon on a number of occasions and you can see a lot. -
They said there will be no test on console. .....or I should say, no test the public will be invited to play like the experimental servers on PC.
-
I agree although I hope they devote more effort to bug squashing first. I would love to see more depth in the survival aspects but I have to say, I'm tired of dying due to glitches / bugs more often than I do to the environment, etc. I'd like to see them get those bigger, more persistent bugs worked out first and then bring it on! 🙂
-
LOL!!! Sorry about that. I was viewing multiple threads at once and confused this one with another.
-
If I'm not mistaken, their damage model also takes into account distance as well, no? .....not to mention shot placement.
-
They have official servers where your player spawns with a weapon?
-
Agreed..... I rarely use it especially now that the duct tape glitch is fixed but it is quite useful in certain scenarios so I always appreciated the option. ....on a sort of related note, I understand the whole game balancing / pro & con angle but manufactured suppressors should at least last longer than they do in the game.
-
Bummer man. Can't say I've had that particular problem and hope I never do. Good luck getting that sorted if you can.
-
Sorry to hear that but I can't say I blame you. DayZ is admittedly one of the buggiest games I have ever played on PS4 to date. In my case, if I weren't renting my own server I might have already done the same and cut bait. These issues are worse for some than others and can range from annoying to downright game-breaking especially what you describe. ......which has happened to me on several occasions resulting in my death. I only hope that 1.06 brings with it some fixes to the worst of the problems at least. I only wish BIs communication was as open as they were a while back when they made a new commitment to fans to get DayZ sorted. .....which honestly was the only reason I bought it when it released on this platform.
