Get the iZurvive app. On Chenarus at least, it's actually not that hard to find out where you are within the first few minutes you spawn in. As mentioned, look for landmarks and compare them to the map. .....look for road signs that will indicate whether your entering or leaving a particular city (white signs) or how far from a city you are (blue signs). If you're still not sure where you are or maybe your way outside of of town, take note of bridges, railroads, where each cross each other, tree lines, buildings, roads and their shapes / directions. In Chenarus, you spawn on the shoreline. Take note of the Sun's position in the sky (e.g. rises in the East and sets in the West). Look for lighthouses and where they are situated. Compare them to the lighthouses on the map app. As you play more, you will be able to recognize towns and places far more easily as they become more familiar. When wandering further inland, you can follow power lines sometimes or take a general bearing between major landmarks / towns as you work your way across the map. Water and radio towers tend stand out on a horizon and can really help with orientation. Obviously, if you find a compass, you can go anywhere with a high degree with accuracy as long as you keep track of your progress along the way. As far as food (again, at least on Chenarus), seek out boats as they will commonly have sodas and/or canned items. They can also spawn fishing poles and fishing hooks. Use a knife or shovel to dig up worms in a grassy area and then you can bait the hooks, combine them with the pole and go fishing. ......then gut the fish, get a long stick, start a fire and get to cooking. Cooked fish are an awesome food source and I've found are possibly more effective than large canned items. If you are going to use a chicken to form a hook from it's bones, you need to wash/disinfect your hands or risk getting ill the next time you feed yourself. Make sure when wandering around on the shoreline that you don't make it obvious. Use tree lines where possible to help mask your movements. .....move between clumps of trees, etc. and always keep your head on a swivel. Personally, if I found a pole and hooks I would find a more secluded pond on the map app and go there if possible. Fish for a while and then find a private place where you can cook in peace and create a store of food for yourself. As mentioned, the infected can also be a fairly reliable source of canned food and also some gear. ....and sometimes actually safer than running along the coast.

Anyone else having an issue seeing their private servers in the lobby? Does anyone know of another way to access them? I double checked the name and status through the Nitrado site and everything looks ok but I can't see my server in the list. EDIT: Nevermind. I got it to finally work after restarting it a few times. EDIT2: Seems this is an issue now as I saw a Tweet earlier today stating that some servers are simply not showing up. .....they are working on it.
-
Yeah, it sucks that they don't have an indicator for us like that. I'd imagine that they might include it in a future update given how they've refined the lobby system / options so far.
-
Not really sure. If it did, then my understanding is that those items would be put back in the pool (so to speak). I haven't heard of a limit on how long your character will last before despawning due to inactivity. .....especially on private servers. My guess is that unless you reinstall your server (wipe it), any items other players may have collected will still be with them, in tents/containers, etc. but I don't know for sure.
-
I believe you have to butcher the chicken first before you can bring those components into your inventory (e g. meat, bone, etc ). Fish you can grab straight away when caught. However, if you want to cook it, you have to gut it first before you can put it on a stick. Also, remember that you need to clean your hands after butchering. IIRC, you can go down to the waters edge an and action will then be available to do this. .....or you should be able to use a disenfectant spray, etc. I believe you can also use gloves and then take them off after you're done. I haven't spent much time experimenting with germs as I obviously didn't want to get sick. I don't think fish will make you ill though after handling. ....but I used disenfectant spray on my gloves, etc. just in case. There was no prompt to wash my hands after gutting when I walked up to the shoreline.

Not sure what you mean by cycle. IME, if you see loot that you don't pick up and then come back to that same place, chances are other items will now be there. If you mean the maximum number of particular items that spawn on a server, I believe that is a set number on the server and will only reset if wiped. ......from what I understand. I actually wiped my own server recently but forgot to set the whitelist tick box. I came in to find several strangers on. At first I thought all was well but then found that they had taken cars we found and other stored goods we had in just a matter of a couple days. Pretty productive considering none of the vehicles were drivable yet. I started wondering how much they may have already stored of their own so I wiped the server again and locked it so we can start over again for fear they buried good loot that would make it more scarce on our server
-
Well, if someone else had just been through the area that could be one reason there is nothing there for you to grab. ......another reason Z's are a good source sometimes for gear and food. You might want to consider a community server where they have rules. ....but yeah, you may have better luck on a less populated server in regard to locating items. Less chance of others looting areas that you will be in.
-
The coast is where I usually find the most food quickly (the boats) but yeah, you can be an easy target for those looking to exploit the most vulnerable. When I used to play in public servers I wouldn't try to make it obvious where I was at by running out in the open. I would use cover where possible by moving along the tree lines, etc. Zombies can also be a better source than most other places for food IME. You can also find fishing gear at the boats and then work your way to a water source that is more secluded if you're concerned about hanging around the coast.

The thing is, they made a lot of promises to focus on refinement and optimization of the game when they were releasing it on PS4. .....but here we are several updates later where they have added content but refused to address some of the more persistent problems that plauge us. Instead, we are introduced to new problems with each update and then patches that typically only help fix those. ....and again, the core problems are still problems. It doesn't help that they've taken a 180 on their communication in regard to such issues, their progress, etc. A little openness in this regard would go along way. Personally, I'm close to calling it quits in the game for a while. I think this is the last month I'll be renting a server from them and will likely move on to other games after that. Maybe I'll revisit in several months or so.
-
I'll throw my two cents in on vehicles and my own experiences..... I want to point out that I rent my own 10 space server that currently, just my friend and I use. Two people at most are on but sometimes just one of us will occupy it. Frst, I need to point out that before one of the hotfixes that came after 1.05, I had the same issues as many others where I couldn't drive above 20KPH without risk of crashing from long "lag spikes". However, after one of the patches they released, my performance in this regard had suddenly improved. It was a night and day difference. Ever since that time, I'm only really limited by the conditions and physical characteristics of the road. I actually have to slow down for turns, through narrow passages, etc. to ensure I don't wreck. Lag events are typically measured in fractions of a second rather than several seconds as they once were. A couple things I think I should note: 1) My friend's situation never changed. He still experiences the same lag as he did before. 2) Inventory has no effect on lag events for us. Empty or full, it's still an issue. 3) I have to drive in first person. If I drive in third person, the lag is much worse but still not as bad as it once was. I tried this back when lag was bad for me and 1st person didn't really help. .....now it does. 4) We are both running on original PS4s except that I have my game installed and running from an external Samsung Evo 1TB SSD. I've had this SSD since I bought DayZ on release day. .....no change there. 5) I still need to slow down through towns, etc. as I once did as events are more likely to happen there and there duration (while brief) can still cause a crash if you're not careful. ....but nowhere near as bad as it once was and I can maintain speeds quite a bit higher than I did. I honestly don't know what changed in that patch that made a difference for me. For now, I do most of the driving when we play together. We still have bad days however when it seems the server acts up (e.g. bouncing cars, teleporting, excessive rubber banding, more lag events, etc.). I would love to know what changed and why my game improved in this regard as it may be the answer to why some of us have the problem. I made no changes on my end but something they did obviously helped my situation. I reported this with detail on the appropriate website and even offered assistance if they wanted to reach out. .....never received a response which doesn't surprise me.

I agree with the OP to an extent. Some things could use better balancing IMO. However, I don't think food is as bad as he makes it out to be. IRL, although you can live without food for 3 weeks according to the rule of 3's, you need food on a consistent basis to remain in a functional state both mentally and physically. Our characters IRL would be burning tons of calories doing the things we do in the game. We simply wouldn't be able to keep this up IRL for very long. It's a hardcore survival game but still a game where the devs have to take liberties with some of the elements to maintain a level of balance and fun. .....sense of survival / challenge, etc. If we were able to last 3 weeks in-game time without food or even several days, how relevant would the whole feeding, food collecting, hunting, cooking mechanics really be? Also, if we're talking"real life", water consumption should be way higher than it is given the amount of traveling, running, etc. that our characters do in the game. That 3 day rule is in a perfect scenario where you are not exposed, not exerting yourself, etc. I will say however that the weapon sway is way overdone now. It should be tied to stamina / exhaustion IMO. A character at rest should still be able to steady their rifle better than this while kneeling or even standing while still breathing. Maybe if it started out like it is but steadied over a few seconds as long as the player doesn't move, I could appreciate it more. Personally, I didn't have a problem with the way it was.

Yeah.... That glitch was in the patch notes. Again, something they broke with the update but fixed. Just wished they concentrated on a big update that focused on the core issues they seem to ignore with each TU, optimization, etc. Personally I don't believe it's the OPs fault like someone else mentioned. BI sold DayZ on PS4 as a 1.0 release when it honestly should have never left beta. .....and now they are even doing physical copies. In my case, I followed DayZ since the mod. I knew the issues with the stand alone and the drama. .....but then I saw a different side of BI. One that had them stepping up to the plate and making a push to refine the game. Yeah, maybe one can say I bought what BI was selling in regard to their renewed commitment to the game just before and during PS4s release. Shame on me for believing what they were promising to us. ....but they were communicating and owning up to & discussing the issues. Now it's a huge 180 from those days as their communication in regard to the biggest problems many folks have with this game is all but non existent at this point. ......but just because some people were fooled by BI doesn't mean they haven't the right to complain about it. Quite the opposite in fact.
-
The version shown when updating on the PS4 is different than what they refer to. That's what he meant with the 1.08. We are on 1.06 but that's not his point. I agree with the OP. Seems BI simply tries to fix what they broke in the previous updates without addressing the long standing, persistent issues like the inventory bugs, lag spikes with vehicles, etc. Some had been pointing to one of the blurbs in the patch notes as an indicator to addressing inventory issues but as I discovered yesterday, I think it was more specific as items still got stuck in my session requiring a server restart. It seems like the game now runs better for me in regard to the frequency of these inventory issues but no better than it was with 1.05 after this patch. .....so once again, a new, major update that never addressed the core problems with the game but introduces new bugs, and a patch / hotfix that simply addresses the new bugs but not the core issues. That is the main point here.
-
Yeah....thanks. I already don't use the triangle button to reload and either shortcut mags on the item wheel or reload via my inventory. ......I keep all mags at the top so I can quickly switch them out. .....but that's not the issue. My inventory items are getting more finicky and stuck more often now in trunks, tent, crates, barrels, etc. .....even with my work-arounds. I did have a mag glitch on me which had me concerned because like I said, I've been using the work-arounds with great success in that regard for a long time before the update. The worst part about all of this is that while they might fix some of these new bugs, the old ones will likely remain as they have been for months. I want to love this game but the lack of communication and refusal to address long standing, persistent issues is wearing really thin on my patience right now. They don't even acknowledge all the major, known issues the community constantly talks about at the bottom of their patch notes. .....just one.
-
Yeah..... After a couple longer sessions, I'm encountering more issues than I did before the update like not being able to eat, not being able to move forward, inventory items getting stuck more frequently, etc. On top of that, lag spikes when driving are still there but now I'm having the weird flopping around happening more often. Things are worse than they were before the patch for myself and those I play with.
-
Yeah..... Livonia is only $13.99 here in the U.S. which isn't much. .....but still not worth the purchase IMO as I won't be touching it until they get some of these long standing, persistent bugs worked out of the game. This 1.06 update was disappointment in that respect to say the least. It's like they are ignoring the fact that this game is still not optimized to run properly on PS4. They keep adding things but ignore and/or put aside fixing some of the more glaring problems.
-
Yup...... Still no update to performance that I can see including vehicles. I'm still waiting to see what the full notes say about the patch that they are supposed to release later this week but it seems they are not doing much if anything to optimize the game for console (or PS4 at least). The inventory menus seem improved when navigating through them.
-
1.06 just went live a little while ago.
-
It's true.... We can use as many work-arounds as we can but the fact remains that there are some glitches / bugs simply out of our control with no way I can think of (or heard of) that works to mitigate them. I've lost items from inventory, etc. after logging off. I've also lost things from our bases as well as vehicles that just disappear once we log back on. ......vehicles with items that took hours or sometimes days to find / collect.
-
Completely agree. Im glad they introduced the climbing mechanics they did but still think it needs to be fine tuned. Z's should be limited to at least what players are.
-
Customization is a big thing people look for in games especially in ones where looting is a mechanic. The OP's suggestion isn't outrageous neither is asking for more varieties in what we have or how people can wear things like hats, etc.IMO. The fact is, there really isn't that many choices at all right now except for some variations in colors.

You guys missing servers? Private servers down anyone?
Kean__1 replied to Man Parts 241's topic in New Player Discussion
Nitrado is up for me and so is my server. ....at least right now it is. -
Yeah..... I don't see any definitive proof he was cheating. Hell, I've had issues with hits not registering simply due to glitches against NPCs let alone real players. .....not sure naming & shaming is the right way to go about this either.
-
He's talking about bloused boots which DayZ doesn't do. .....unless I missed it which is entirely possible.
