    The last straw

You actually might have a better chance than you think of getting a refund from Sony. Others have as well as a recent poster here in the forums. As for some of your issues, there are workarounds that do work. I only wish you came here sooner. The magazine issues can largely be avoided by not using the triangle / load button. Using the combine button either from the item wheel (where you can place a mag) or directly from inventory seems to avoid these jams and glitches entirely. It also stopped the ghost bullet problem for me personally. When loading items into a car, container, tent, etc., never swap from your hands. This will always lead to items getting stuck for me. I will always make sure when I am trying to retrieve something from the trunk of my car (for example) that I don't have anything in my hands. I have had several weapons get stuck as a result and they will only get unstuck once the server is restarted. I move items manually over to the container and use square or X to bring them into my inventory / hands. For some larger items I have to hold square to drop them from the container into the vicinity before I can interact with them. btw, when items get stuck in one container, it seems to affect other containers, dead zombies, etc. in the game world for me as well. The cars simply suck. When lag was really bad for me, I had to literally drive ~20KPH since freezes and crashing were inevitable. At least at that speed the result was usually no damage but there was no guarantee and there was always the chance of finding yourself stuck in a bad spt you can't drive out of. Please let us know how it goes with Sony though. If you are able to get a refund, maybe your experience will inspire others that are at the breaking point and looking for options. Good luck and please, come back and tell us how it goes.

i got refunded, you should to!

I'm glad you able to get a refund. IMO, this is inexcusable for a game release on PS4 as a finished title. In my case, I bought it knowing there were still bugs but I was suckered in by their sudden openness about the game's progress, promises and talk of bucking down to get the game right. Soon after the release they did a 180 in regard to communication and IMO, have been quite nonchalant about it. .....especially if you follow their Twitter feed. Then they announced the Livonia DLC and a physical release which really chapped my ass as I thought they should really be focusing on fixing the game first instead of building on an unstable foundation. .....and certainly not releasing a game on physical disk that is nowhere near a "1.0" state. In all honesty, it simply looked like a money grab at that point especially since they essentially went silent on all the big issues people were (and still are) having. Anyhow, in their brief blurb regarding the state of the game at the end of last year they said they would be concentrating on fixing the game in 2020 but who knows when exactly that will be or if they even will. As it stands, they continue to release new content and new bugs. ....and then hotfixes to repair those new bugs but ignoring most of the long-standing issues that plague players like the one you have shown in your video. .....btw, I used to have the exact same problem you shared. I would get at least one of those longer freezes each session. Don't ask me how but at some point after one of their patches everything changed for me in regard to vehicle performance. As long as I remain in FPV, I can drive in 2nd and 3rd gear consistently at speeds of around 50KPH or more with little issue. I do get "rubberbanding" and some freezes but they are quite short (a second or less typically). Every now again though I do get a freeze just like old times but it's relatively rare and will last maybe 4 seconds or so. ......but gone are the days I had to maintain a speed of ~20KPH or less unless I'm in a big city. Funny thing is, my friend I share my server with still has the same issue as you do (and I used to have). Nothing changed for him so I drive most times. To be honest, if things hadn't improved for me with the vehicle performance, I likely would have given up too and maybe asked for refund. I also posted this in the tech forum in detail but I guess BI never responds to any of those. I figured they might be curious why things improved for me after the patch but apparently not. ....I was more than willing to share what I could and help if they wanted it. The only difference between my friend and I in our system is that I have an ext SDD but I had that since I started playing. Something in the patch changed where it improved my performance though.

    DayZ PS4 Discussion

Aside from the glitches / bugs which I agree are quite frustrating an inexcusable, DayZ is a hardcore survival game. Starting out is meant to be rough. Simply collecting the bare essentials and trying to find enough food / water to survive can be difficult but becomes easier when you know where to look and what to do to increase your chances. I do agree the food gets consumed faster than what it should but I also think it should be swapped with water. With as much as our characters do to exert themselves, the water consumption should be where the food requirements are currently at and the food where the water is. Check the boats along the coast. Food and sodas often spawn there although there are no garuantees on frequency. Backpacks are kinda common too. Fishing poles and hooks also do and those can be used to fish. Dig up worms using a knife, etc. in a grassy area. Combine with a hook and then your pole and your good to go. You can fish off the shore of the coast and catch mackerel. Once caught, fillet them with a knife and they can then be combined with a long stick. Build a fire and then you can cook the fish. I've found that fish are so far one of the best food sources that will often fill your food meter. .....and once your meter is filled, it takes a while before you need food again. The Infected are also a good source for finding cans and tins of food btw. I would also recommend getting the iZurvive app. It can really help when trying to locate water sources, medical clinics, police stations, etc. ....btw, police stations are a great place to find some basic firearms as well as clothing that holds more than what you start out with. You may also want to read the forums here for tips. There are ways to avoid some of the bugs you encounter simply by the way you interact with items when storing, gathering, reloading, etc. It can make your experience a lot less frustrating although there are still issues you simply can't do anything about.

Why is this game so glitchy and awful?

Yeah, common bugs although there are some work-arounds to help mitigate the chances of some of those things occuring or ways to get around them when some of them do. ......but I don;t think you're interested in hearing those as it seems you've already given up on the game. As for the hunger / thirst, it's a hardcore survival game like The Forest, ARK, etc. It's a scramble in the beginning just to collect the basics you need to stay alive.

    Unable to Access Rented Server

Seems folks are viewing this thread although no one has responded (I didn't think BI would either), but I thought I would go ahead and update those interested with the latest info.... I contacted Nitrado about this issue with my server and while they didn't necessarily do anything to help my particular problem, they did respond to my inquiry about being made whole for the month due to missing service for a couple of days as I thought it was unfair that I should be paying for a service I am not receiving during that entire period. Nitrado responded by extending my server for a few more days to compensate me for the interruption in service. .....kudos to them for acknowledging my concern and following through with a solution that was appropriate. So, since yesterday I have been able to log on to my server and all seems well so far. Crossing my fingers the server issues are over since BI has yet to update their Twitter feed with an update.
  6. One way to help keep things from getting stuck in storage (e.g. drums, crates, tents, cars, etc.) is to transfer them manually over to the container. IME, swapping items from your hands to the container ("X" I believe) almost always results in items getting stuck. More commonly this happens when I have my weapon in hand and try to get something from the car (forgetting the firearm is in my hands). I then try to recover it and it's stuck. When reloading weapons with magazines, never use the reload button (triangle). This may work for a time but IME, the weapon / magazines will eventually glitch. The SKS, single shot rifles and those other weapons with internal magazines are the exception it seems although I have had rare probs with SKSs. I use the combine function with a mag from my inventory or one I place on the item wheel. btw, I'm not trying to dismiss any of your problems as I think even ones where there are "work-arounds" have no excuse for existing this long. ....and even with these work-arounds there is still no guarantee you won't encounter problems with them as I have (although rare when following those tricks). I love the hardcore aspects of a survival game like DayZ but it's no fun when you go through all the trouble of surviving only to be stymied by a bug whether that's the inability to shoot something (no damage sustained by the target), freeaing in place (and being eaten by zombies, killed by another player, etc.), crashing in a car your spent day or weeks building because of lag / freezes, etc., not being able to bandage yourself because the action will not work, inability to drink or eat (again, because the action doesn't work), etc.

    Weapons not spawning

The spawning of weapons is random. Even on my private server it can be feast or famine when it comes to types of weapons, magazines, acc's, ammo, etc. that you will find. I did a complete wipe on our recently and ever since the reload, 7.62x39 ammo has been relatively scarce. .....so have high cap mags for the M4 yet we found several before the wipe. On the other hand, I have come across 6 high cap mags for the Viaga (20rnd drums). Other items are scarce or simply non-existent in this new install but were relatively plentiful in the last. Same goes for particular weapons and such. Sometimes all I ever find are SKS rifles, SMGs, etc. .....other times I come across more M4s, AK74s, AKSUs, AKMs, etc. than I know what to do with. In your situation (I'm assuming in a public session), couple that with a server full of other people and some guns are gonna be even harder to find than they would otherwise.

Can badly damaged weapons be repaired?

The only thing I would add is that I would be very careful using a badly damaged weapon as you can easily render it useless when it becomes "ruined". Also, IIRC both damaged and badly damaged weapons have a greater chance of jamming on you. I will use damaged weapons in a pinch but will try and seek out a gun cleaning kit or duct tape to repair it asap. In fact, I always keep one roll of duct tape only for my weapons if I have nothing else. .....footwear is a close second in priority for use of my single roll of tape if shoes are scarce.
  10. Yeah, it became an exercise in frustration coupled with the bugs / issues. If they had all that ironed out I might be more willing to get into a public session again although I was never big on full tilt PvP. .......I love co-op play much more with a sprinkling of PvP. I do like the damage increase they included for the new zombies as it makes encounters more risky. I wish there were more random herds and behavioral changes they could make though to mix it up. A variation in the types of Infected would be cool. .....maybe even ones that are more vicious at night, etc. In fact, if this were the case, people might be more willing to team up with other players than trying to kill them off. ....safety in numbers. As it is, the Infected are not much more than a nuisance in the game to most. .....sort of background noise. The changes to bleeding, Z damage, etc. helped make them more of a threat but I think they could be more so (personally).

    Character freezes. Not the game.

This is the case with an of these freezes whether temporary or permanent. While driving, the "lag spikes" experienced by the driver are not usually seen by the passengers. While the car appears to freeze, everyone else sees the vehicle veering off, etc. out of control. When the freeze stops, the driver will them see where they ended up. I have had freezes like you explained but usually after exiting a vehicle I had just driven. I always thought it was the by product of the lag spike from driving the car. I rarely get random freezes but I suspect the root cause is similar. ......mostly just a general lack of optimization for console. They really need to cut back on the draw distance or some of the further textures, etc. Maybe get rid of the flying debris or little things in the game world that tax our systems but really don't add that much to the experience. Who cares if these things are part of PC as long as all players are on equal footing on the same platform, there is no advantage / disadvantage.
  12. When DayZ first released on PS4, the community was great. Most you met were willing to talk with you, share loot, exchange information and perhaps even team up to accomplish each others goals and provide protection for one another. Not long after however, the more aggressive and deceptive folks among us had already converted most into a "shoot on sight" mentality. .....fool me once. We can't call these guys griefers as this is all within the rules of the game. ......a game which has no rules except to survive. I simply got to a point where it wasn't even worth the risk to try and start a dialogue with someone so I either avoided people or killed them before they had the opportunity to kill me. ....but yeah, on public servers I will use the environment to help mask my movements. I rarely will run out in the open and generally stick to tree lines when getting from point to point. When raiding houses, I try not to travel in a pattern. I'll switch entry / exit points from front to back of buildings, etc. I can't tell you how many people I see collecting loot in homes going door to door down the middle of the street. ......easy targets. Playing with friends / groups gives you a lot more freedom to do things in the game. Simply having others there to watch your back can really make your life a lot easier. It's funny but tactics that work in real life work just as well in DayZ. Groups / friends that work well together benefit greatly from this. Personally, I stopped playing on public servers mostly due to the glitches, bugs, duping and so on. I rented a server when they became available and my friend and I started a PvE game. It was actually really educational as we were able to use weapons we found that were extremely rare in our public sessions. We built various cars, forts, etc. Some consider it boring but we still found it fun. ....and when they made the Infected tougher and the other survival aspects, it was even more enjoyable. We gained more experience about the gameworld, mechanics, weapons, items, etc. than we ever would have in public sessions. ....so when (or if) we ever do venture back into the official servers, we are a lot more prepared than we once were. ....but who knows. I may just create my own PvE / PvP server with our own rules.
  13. Kean__1

    official servers?

......or, this could be the issue. I just saw this on Twitter as soon as I posted the above: "CONSOLE PLAYERS: We are aware of the server availability issue and currently investigating the cause. We will update you on this topic when we have more information. Comment with your server name and platform (Xbox/PS4), if you are experiencing some connection difficulties."
  14. Kean__1

    official servers?

Ah, ok. Sorry for stating the obvious but sometimes you never know. ......so please forgive what I'm about to say next if you already considered it. 🙂 I would suggest checking all of your filters in the server list. Reset them and / or turn of any filters that could be eliminating search results. i had a friend with the same problem and this was the cause in his case. Also happened to me and I didn't know what was going on at first. I'm crossing my fingers it's this simple.
  15. Kean__1

    official servers?

There are. I believe it's L1 and R1 to switch between them.
  16. Kean__1

    Have the devs fallen asleep?

.....via this forum although I use Twitter to follow the DayZ Tweets about stuff like that. Theyll usually put "PC" or "Console" at the beginning for specific changes to each. Yeah, new content is great but when they ignore some of the long standing issues it gets really irritating. .....and then with the new content / changes, there always seems to be new bugs introduced. The last patch helped take care of most of the new bugs as far as I can tell but other things are as screwed up as they have been for a long while. They really need to buckle down and start focusing on fixing the game with these updates rather than introducing new things. Make a solid foundation to build on.
  17. Kean__1

    Have the devs fallen asleep?

I was asking because PS4 is a mess right now in regard to bugs and optimization issues. .....all arguments regarding mechanics / design choices aside.
  18. Kean__1

    Have the devs fallen asleep?

So I'm guessing you recently switched from PC to PS4 then?
  19. Kean__1

    New player-Starving to death

I just wish it were more randomized in its selection of what it spawns. On our private server I've come across literally more than a dozen skull balaclavas(?) for instance over several days. ....or items like compasses.
  20. Kean__1

    Loot cycle.

@Crazy 8, Check out the last posts in this thread: @EzyStriderPS4 was really helpful in answering these questions I was also curious about and thought I'd let you know since it addresses what you were concerned about too on your server.
  21. Kean__1

    What killed me?

No worries. Thanks a bunch for the info. I'll point the other member to this thread if I can find it again.
  22. Kean__1

    New player-Starving to death

Yeah, it's weird. In Chenarus, it's feast or famine sometimes. The spawns also seem to follow a pattern. You can see this especially in rows of garages, barracks, military tents, boats, etc. I find a particular item in one (e.g. a compass, water bottle, fuel can, dry bag, food cans, etc.) and then I'm bound to find several from those same sources as well. Car parts, equipment, weaps / accs, flashlights, finshing poles/hooks, etc. I hear Livonia is much worse in regard to food items spawning. I'll wager I would be doing a lot more hunting and fishing to support my character's needs. btw, if you find a cooking pot, you can use it to carry water and drink from. Its capacity is equivalent to 2 plastic bottles IIRC. You can also store items in it up to 12 spaces even while it has water so you don't waste space. I use these in a pinch until I can find more bottles and eventually canteens. Should be easier when the iZurvive app is updated to include Livonia. As it stands right now, I don't think they include that map yet but are working on it.
  23. Kean__1

    What killed me?

Thanks. I wasn't sure. .....if you don't (someone else was asking in another thread and I was curious as well), but do items in tents or above ground in barrels, crates, etc. expire after a lack of interaction with them too? How about players who don't log back in on a Community server for a give period of time? Do those items they have on their person get re-integrated into the pool so to speak? .....sorry for the questions and detour.
  24. Kean__1

    What killed me?

Is this true for any buried items like crates, etc.?
  25. Kean__1

    Livonia paid DLC?? wth

I'd buy the new map in a heartbeat if they would simply address some of the most persistent, long-standing bugs in the base game. Personally, I thought it was irresponsible of them to start developing the paid DLC and plan the physical release with the game in its current state. I also believed their focus should have been more on refinement of the game and optimization on console before adding more of the free content. .....which in turn added more bugs that they then had to fix. ....but then again, the core issues still remain. It just becomes a distraction from what their focus should be IMO. ......finishing the game.
