I rent a server and since my last reset 20+ days ago, we hadn't had any issues with tents disappearing.
-
Again, it was just a suggestion to help you get used to some of the mechanics and such if you wanted to. I always hit the tents for weapons and even barracks. I check the green towers along the perimeter of some bases for weapon acc's and ammo. Sometimes a weapon may even spawn there too. Just have to be aware that others are doing the same thing. I just hadn't had much luck finding an AR or AKs in public sessions though. Usually, SKs or SMGs like the USG(?) and SG(?) I think they're called in the game. Personally, I like hitting up the smaller bases nearby first if I can. Easier for me to recon (to see if others are nearby) and less zombies to deal with.

Well, I'm not suggesting that you would find it more fun than a public server but I've been having a blast with my friends. Public servers were great at first. More people seemed willing to help or live and let live after a brief a encounter. Met some cool people that way. .....then it seemed everyone took a shoot first approach or would grief / troll players. ....so, we either will avoid people all together or engaged if we feel they are a threat. We got burned one too many times giving people the benefit of the doubt. Its still fun and I do maintain a character on those servers, but I also have a blast just playing with my friends. Also, good loot became so scarce it was difficult to find what we really needed or wanted in public sessions. ...so I started on a locked server I was invited to and had a lot of fun and learned a ton more than I had up to that point. I eventually rented my own, locked it and made it available only to my friends. We've had a blast doing PvE, messing around, working together and using gear / equipment we simply couldn't ever find on public servers. That being said, my suggestion wasn't that the OP rent his own server or abandon public sessions. It was simply that perhaps he could find an unlocked private server or maybe be invited to one (like I had been) which is friendly, caters to new players, etc. just as a way to get used to some of the mechanics, gear, zombies, car building, etc. without as much worry of other players wanting to shoot him on sight. Again, I'm not suggesting he abandon public servers if he doesn't want to. Personally, I'm glad the private servers were introduced otherwise I likely would have quit until more if the bugs were addressed or perhaps shelved the game for good. To each their own but I'm hardly trying to sell theidea that a locked server is more fun than a public one. That's something you have to decide. I'm not going to criticise anyone for playing how they want to play on their own servers or otherwise. That's a personal choice.

Some people are really good at sniping. They can lead a moving target, hit with accuracy from long distances, etc. You could have also just happened to wander into someone's line of sight or kill zone. There are players who will wait for moments like these just to steal your gear or just to grief other people by taking sniping positions. They could have also been stalking you for a while without you knowing, took a position and made the shot. ....or seen you enter the town they were in, got into a position and again, took the shot. The thing is, you'll never know exactly how or why they did. When I play on public servers, I'm always acutely aware that I may be spotted so I adjust my behavior. I never run along roads if I can help it. I'll use the tree line, ditches along the road or elevation variances in the terrain. When looting in towns, I use front doors, back doors, jump fences, etc. just so as not to have a pattern a potential assailant can follow. When crossing open fields, I'll try to make my way to outcrops of trees if available and sometimes run a zig zag pattern. When I hit a tee line, I'll stop and watch what's around and behind me. I do that anyway from time to time. .....stop, watch and listen. Sometimes it's better just to bite the bullet and go around using available cover to conceal your path. As far as the scopes, they usually tell you what platforms they can be used on in their descriptions. The ATOG (ACOG) is one you can use on weapons like the M4 and SG. There are others that are described as working on KA (AK) rifle variants (e.g. KAM, KA74, erc.). The hunting scope can be used on hunting rifles and so on. In time you'll learn exactly which scope works for what and which you prefer. Just hang on to them until you find a weapon you can try to mount them on. Personally, my suggestion would be to get on a private server if you can with friendly or few people where you can really just learn to survive, find good loot, build a car, etc. It wasn't until I did, that I finally had the chance to get my hands on things that simply weren't possible on public servers due to duping, hoarding, etc. I eventually ended up renting my own and locked it so only my friends and I could play. ....tons of fun. I do believe the helmet does provide some added protection in melee attacks and possibly even small caliber weapons as you might expect IRL. The face shield perhaps a bit more but like in reality, that is really just for eye protection in riot situations or similar. You want the tactical helmet (I believe it's called) that you can attach a universal flashlight to. Very handy IMO. I'm sure what the game takes into account but the ballistic helmet(?) should provide more protection than that riot / assault helmet I would think. .....still, I wouldn't expect it to stop a rifle bullet.

Too easy? .....no, not at all. Quite the opposite. DayZ is a product of ARMA (a milsim game). Its about as hardcore as anything you'll find on console with essentially none of the arcade elements of other games. With that in mind, you do know that these helmets in real life are not entirely bullet proof, right? I've seen AK rounds go right through modern military helmets. These things were intended to help provide added protection from shrapnel, stray bullets, flying/falling debris, etc. As for what they do in regard to an added bonus to armor for your head, etc., I really don't know. ....but IRL, protection against a headshot really depends on the round being fired, distance, energy, etc. The fact is, there is no auto aim in this game. Survival is really a matter of situational awareness, tactics, skill and a little luck. Sounds like you simply wandered into someone's crosshairs and paid the price.

Good to know.

Totally different is my guess. It's going to be a paid DLC apparently so it will have to be.

Maybe they meant "Northwest airfield"? Yeah, I broke down and rented my own server finally. .....invited my friends and locked it. I was hardly finding anything on public server either and even on another private server I was invited to. Found out folks were hoarding all the good guns and loot. I didn't think that would matter with a relatively small group like that but who knows what else they were doing. I'm just glad to have a variety of items again. ....some that I would never run across on the others.

Sometimes dropping it to the ground first directly from the zombie's inventory, car, etc. (holding square) and then picking it up will work. However, as mentioned, these workarounds don't always guarantee success. Has nothing to do with the unfriendliness of the UI. The mechanic is broken.

To me some of these bugs are "game breaking" when it causes you to freeze due to lag and get killed by a zombie. .....or the gun you spent hours finding and improving gun stops working due to a glitch (and then you get killed). .....or the car you've been working on for several sessions decides to crash as your screen freezes. Those are examples of what I call game breaking bugs. Even though not being able to trade with friends at times or not being able to load your mags, open cans, etc. can be extremely frustrating and should also be fixed, they don't necessarily stop progress all together or will get you killed. Having to re-log 5 or so times per session is also quite annoying but will sometimes fix some of the less game-impacting glitches but not all the time nor with certain bugs. Some may even consider that game-breaking and I wouldn't blame them if they did. The game still provides an experience we are all after otherwise we wouldn't be here. .....but I'm not afraid to call a spade a spade as BI is simply building on a game that is (quite frankly) not even finished yet. For a full release game on PS4, there should be this many bugs. .....and BI shouldn;'t be talking about a physical release let alone a paid DLC without first addressing some of the more persistent problems. After all, we're not talking about a just a couple bugs here. There are some basic optimizations issues along with mechanics that are simply broken. I like DayZ and been a fan of BI since OPF days, but they really need to get their act together like they said they would.
-
That's been my experience as well. .....military bases. Trouble is, I usually find (what I consider) a better weapon than the USG when I'm at those bases so it becomes sort of irrelevant at that point. Also, there is always a crap load of ammo and other items in the towers surrounding some of the bases which (for the most part) are in areas free of zombies.

You can't really convince people not to buy it if they are already planning to. Let's face it, DayZ delivers a gaming experience that you simply can't get from any other PS4 title. This is as close as any of us will get to an open world, milsim / HC survival experience on console. As such, it's a bit of a unique situation as there are a lot of people willing to put up with frustrating bugs, glitches, exploits, etc. ....just like us. Having said that, I won't be one of those buying the new DLC. I already paid $50 for this broken mess. .....albeit willingly since I knew the history of the game but had hoped they were being sincere regarding their drive to set things right as it came to PS4. To put it bluntly, I am not going to buy a new map while game-breaking bugs like items getting stuck in inventory, inability to load/reload, unable to reload mags, problems opening cans, weapons glitching to the point of being rendered useless, issues transferring items between players/bodies/storage, spike in lag while driving, etc. I literally have to log out and then back in on average of about 5 or more times in a session because of some of these issues. Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't. With the announcement of a physical copy release and now the new DLC, it certainly looks suspect. ......and I can't blame folks for thinking BI was more interested in a cash grab than brining DayZ to the PS4 fans when they went to a full release. Unless they are simply that confident that 1.05 will resolve many of these issues without introducing more problems, I have to question why they would even think it was ok to introduce a DLC at this point. .....either that or they are just so out of touch to believe that the game in its current state is acceptable. Who knows, perhaps some of the gaming media and YT personalities will shed a little light on this fact and question these more recent decisions of theirs to capitalize on what is essentially a broken game.
-
With so many game breaking issues people are experiencing in this game, I find it a little irresponsible to be introducing new content like this before fixing some of these big, existing issues. .....and being that this is likely paid DLC, it just adds insult to injury.

Yeah, don't get me wrong...... I'd be totally cool with little exploits like the duct tape glitch being fixed if we didn't have the issues with weapons and mags not loading/unloading properly or simply becoming completely unusable at some point where they have to be scrapped. ....not to mention lost or stuck in a tent, trunk, etc. So, as a result, I have to carry several weapons including magazines for them, ammo, etc. just in case one or more of them permanently glitches out on me. I find enough tape rolls while looting around but at a cost of 4 inventory spaces, it's space I don't have. If the weapons, mags and inventory glitches were fixed, I'd be happy to stick with a main weapon (perhaps two) and maybe a sidearm knowing that as long as I keep them maintained, I can keep them for good. .....but as is, that's not possible. It's just that when I hear they want to fix the duct tape exploit or want to add damage to players in car crashes when the cars crash way more often due to spikes in lag rather than player fault, it really makes me question just how well they understand just how extreme these problems are that we keep telling them about.
-
Right now the inventory management including glitched magazines and weapons that can't be loaded, inventory items getting stuck in cars, tents, backpacks, on bodies, etc. is what is really affecting my (and my groups) gameplay. .....that and the fact that we can't drive a car without lag/freezes that can easily end in crashes. You have to travel around 20KPH everywhere and hope you don't encounter a sudden screen freeze. I can't tell you how many times we each have to log out and then back in to our server to try and fix the inventory / loading issues. .....and that doesn't always work. It really sucks to find an M4, mags and acc's only to have the weapon "glitch" and rendered useless because it can't be loaded, etc. IMO, you folks should spend more of your time optimizing and fixing some of these game breaking bugs. ......have to say I was also a little burned up hearing that the duct tape glitch would be fixed in 1.05 when these other larger issues remain unresolved. I mean, why fix a bug like that which actually helps people out a bit when there are so many bugs that unfairly handicap us already? .....priorities man.
-
Not always. Happens to me too. Items get permanently stuck. ....and then there's the issue with not being able to reload weapons at times, reload mags, open cans, eat, repair items with duct tape, etc. Sometimes you can do things to work around the problem but others, it becomes persistent and even a re-log doesn't help.
