Cities, hunting camps, military: all spawn knives. Keep looking. Also, it’s common that someone else may have looted the same place you are in very recently.

Yes, I can “free look” while in a car by moving R3, but I cannot hold L1 to “free look” and then release L1 to center my screen back to its original position. It doesn’t bother me that you have to manually re-center your view while in the car.

When I’m driving, the L3 steers, and the R3 free-looks without any special button combo. . For me, it has been this way since release. What you are describing sounds like something is not working as intended or is glitched. Sorry you are experiencing this issue!

@VodkaFish Sorry to hear about the break in, hope you are well and back on the upswing. For my settings, I only allow people on my friends list to message me, so that keeps the randomz from becoming a nuisance. That way, I can choose to be or not to be friends with others after meeting them in-game without the extra nonsense.

SHTF Scenario Survival 101: Always look out for other survivors to be holding a huge poster above their heads that reads, “I’m So-and-so” before deciding whether or not to approach.

Seems the only problem is lack of user imagination. 1) Economy: You can encounter friendly players and set your own price. (RP) 2) Reputation: Same thing, encounter friendlies and shoot the shit. If you get around, regulars on the server will talk about you. I've been in a situation where other survivors are trying to get information about another player they encountered to figure out how to go about their own situation. 3) You cannot horde with security, but you can horde with intelligence to minimize your losses. At the end of the day, this game does not pretend to be anything it is not: DayZ is a sand-box Role-Playing Game. The object of the game is to survive. How you do it is your call, and it's that simple. You make your own fun from the freedom the game provides you with. ALL LOOT IS SUPERFLUOUS. You don't need AR's. It is not Battle-Royale. DayZ is about social interactions and the lack there-of at times as well. This game can reveal the nature of human beings and their character traits if you pay attention. Will you support humanity, or will you become psychotic after your first taste of blood? Do you feel any remorse when killing the innocent? Are you defensive? Are you stealthy? Are you helpful? Are you naive or too trusting? How do you handle stress and adrenaline? Can you stay calm under pressure and follow through with poise? Do you lead or do you follow?Do you discuss everything freely or are you secretive about certain information? There are so many philosophical themes at work here, we could spend dayz in discussion. I know I won't be trusting about 80% of people if SHTF for real, and that, DayZ has taught me.

Should a DayZ vet make a return AKA are the "flavor features" there already?

Bicycles and motorcycles HAVE to be in the near future! We already have motorcycle helmets, enduro helmets, and rider jackets. The next logical step is for these features to be implemented after being alluded to. DayZ is in a good state right now, much improved from 1.06. This is the best 1.0 iteration so far, in my opinion. My chief complaint would be AI behavior. I have some minor gripes about clothing insulation values (cotton/polyester track pants offer better warmth than gorkas!), water resistance, and wind resistance (again looking at gorkas being completely ineffective, sadly). More emphasis should be placed on hats, shoes, pants, and jackets. A backpack should NOT be the defining factor for whether or not I am comfortable (not everyone wears a backpack my developer friends!). Back to AI: Animals make way too much noise, walk in circles, and cannot be wounded, they just sprint and act like nothing happened when you find them again. Infected flat out cheat when they are aggro but haven’t yet spotted you. Infected used to run to gun shot locations, which was realistic; now, they aggro in their local area sprinting back and forth if you let off a single shot or a short burst. They will still crowd if you unload a decent amount of ammunition. Waiting for archery eagerly! I really want the option to hunt game the traditional way. Animals getting realistically wounded is a must here. In general, I believe the insulation system will evolve, and it is, after all, the first iteration of this newer mechanic. -

Finally got my Santa hat back! Last year, raiders stole or despawned it shortly after its acquisition. Wore it once last year with dark jeans, dark blazer, and white sneakers. Then, I invited the old crew to share a case of Mad Monk... it was a good holiday party. Memories... crew is gone... but the Mad Monk is still here! -
Thank you for the tip about the pickaxe @James Adam Rimmer. On a side note, I think it would be plausible to repair the shovel with epoxy putty (I know you can’t). The sharpening stone doesn’t make sense for the shovel.

I have no trouble taking cows and stags down with one well-placed round of .308. Read my TIP above to maximize damage. -
Night time, increasing Altitude, and Wind all make the character cold now in 1.10. It can be a combination of those things, and the state of your gear (wetness, damage, material type).

1 minute real time = approximately 8 minutes in DayZ. Imagine how much you would want to eat if you spent all day jogging with all that gear and doing manual tasks! If you are really patient, when you go prone in the game, it reduces energy consumption. Try it and see how long you can last then! But I digress... Stomach Capacity and Energy Capacity are separate from each other, which is a fact. This is why when your stomach is full, as indicated by the stomach with circling arrows icon, you can wait a short time, then consume more food and still observe Up arrows on the Apple icon. The Apple icon is your Energy Capacity, not how full you are. To relate the two, here’s how I see it: Apple Icon Full, No Up arrow when you consume food = You are STUFFED! (Cannot take in more Energy.) Apple Icon Full, Up arrow(s) when you consume food = You are somewhere between HUNGRY and NOT HUNGRY. Apple Icon Not Full, still White = You are EXTREMELY HUNGRY and it is becoming an EMERGENCY. Apple Icon Half Full, Yellow = You are in the Beginning Stages of STARVATION. Apple Icon is Red = You are now DYING from STARVATION.

Bwahahahaha! It really is devilish. I’m on the hunt for leather sewing kits and going through shoes quickly. I show up at any military zone looking for durable boots thinking, “Welcome to the world’s most dangerous shopping mall.” Duct tape is useless to me now. Right now, there is no method for shovel/pickaxe repair, @Buddagee.

1. The foods mentioned have been increased in nutritional value from their previous versions relative to the current system of energy expenditure. I don’t know how many calories they contain. 2. Aim extremely, unrealistically, low on the rib cage for one-shot. I use the trustworthy M70, but .357/7.62/9x39/slugs/buckshot will all do the job. 3. I don’t use kobra sights. -

Unfortunately, the kill zones for animals, currently, are not highly-realistic (especially heart&lung zone). There are certain calibers that are effective against the skull, but others should only be shot at the heart and lungs to be effective. That rifled slug you shot should have been effective out to 100 meters. Sorry, comrade! The SG5-K (a.k.a MP5) could shred up the torso of the deer at close range, but 9mm is not an effective hunting caliber, especially at ranges of 75 to 150 meters. I feel your pain, @James Adam Rimmer. Once, I shot a small deer in the skull from ~40m with an SVD and it tried to run. I would have let it if there were a game mechanic that let it bleed and die allowing me track it with a realistically relative chance of locating the target ...and if there is, I haven’t discovered it yet: each time I track an animal after shooting it, I find him/her doing just fine with no signs of being wounded (like laying down in some brush, wink-wink BI). TIP: If you aim very low on the rib cage of most large game, it will grant a one-shot kill. I trust the reliable M70. Slugs, 7.62x39, 7.62x54, 7.62x51, and .357 are all effective calibers. Harvested a cow yesterday with no trouble. +1 for buckshot, @William Sternritter, it is very effective against timid and dangerous game! -

So far, base-building is bare-bones and extremely simple. It would be nice to have more options. Would be cool to be able to build a cabin. They introduced some new shelters in 1.10, so that is encouraging.

What would make a Dayz perfect game?

Bicycle, motorcycle, bows, realistic kill zones for game (including bleeding and dying after being wounded), spray paint that can be applied to any item, camo net can be used as cover for vehicles, folding butt-stock for CQB, varying length barrels and additional compensators as attachments for certain weapons, but most importantly, improved bullet ballistics that reflect real life scenarios (such as 5.56 “ice-picking” effect at short range, the 5.45 yaw in respect to bleeding and vital organ damage, improved 7.62x39 stopping power vs. smaller calibers), and lastly, “damage” drop-off with range, especially lesser calibers shot from short barrels. (Pistols should be more powerful when suppressed because the barrel is being lengthened, which gives the bullet more acceleration.) +1 on the increase to Infected numbers and varying group density. Currently, as of 11-22-20, infected respawn and repopulate areas within about 6 minutes of being dispatched. This timeframe needs to be increased to give the game greater immersion. For example, clearing a safe zone for others when you are strong, but they are not; your group eliminates infected quickly to loot an area and move out more efficiently to save time; you arrive at an area and suspect that another player could be nearby because of few or zero infected where there should be more. -
