I would prefer to be able to map my own controls. Please include the ability to tap, double tap, hold, and combine (hold + other button) for the commands to all available game actions. IF THIS IS NOT A REALISTIC REQUEST (please try), the one controller input to change for PS4 is the zoom feature. I have no experience with the XBoxOne. Instead of double tap L1, re-map to click R3. Ergo, FPP to TPP and back would be double tap L1. This would make running around, free-looking, and zooming easier and intuitive. The player could hold L1 to free look and click R3 to zoom in and out instead of having to release L1, which re-centers the screen, then double tapping L1, and holding L1 again for free-look. The current input method is ineffective and could be simpler. This mimics ADS mechanic on console.

@ThePugman -- Dang... that is really unfortunate about lights. I hope they can fake it 'til they make it! It's so busted right now because if you zoom in with a scope, you can see the point where the light originates but there is no environmental light or cone from the source. As for the magical bit about zoom, I see it this way (no pun intended): The "zoom" feature allows me to see what my eyes would normally see for resolution/detail into the distance in the real world. I was blessed with 20/15 vision, for which I am grateful, and with which, my eyes can see well beyond the limited resolution presented within the regular FOV in DayZ (without the zoom). Therefore, I don't qualify this feature as a "zoom," but rather, it is similar to the actual focal point of my eyes' visual field. For example, to test this, focus your vision on any object in the room/place you find yourself in, and you will notice that the area in your visual field that can see fine detail is very small. The other 80-90% is all periphery, even the spaces 2-3 inches away from your point of focus. So when I "zoom," that focal point becomes a greater portion of the screen, allowing me to see that portion of the screen as I normally would, with the detail I normally would, if looking into the distance IRL. That's how I've been justifying it, man, hahaha. I hope that wasn't too complicated of an explanation.

If I had to pick one bug that kills immersion, it has to be the fact you cannot see light sources when zooming in. Scoped and regular zoom are both the same. How likely is it that this is addressed in 1.06?

What do you guys do as solo players?

If you get ammo stuck in a barrel or crate, use the option to split the ammo (delta/triangle). The split half will go to your inventory. Then take that half into your hands and hit combine (circle) on the glitched half in the container, and now you have all the ammo in your hands again. I have guns buried in the ground. I have this stockpile of ammunition and firearms for trading. When I die (not if), I don't lose all my currency. Furthermore, I enjoy having high stamina because I'm not carrying 60 kilos of gear in a super-massive military backpack. I employ an overnight pack for missions/heli hunting, and when I'm in town, just l-i-v-i-n off my barrel of food, I usually have regular clothes and a hat. Stashes allow me the flexibility to play the game based on my current situation, employing specific gear for specific demands. I dont always carry NVGs, or warm clothing, or guns, or backpacks, or three canteens, etc. You get the point. I like having a home, in a house, not a base, and to do this well, stash containers are necessary. -

I don't PvP in this game unless I'm forced to shoot back or someone I'm holding up/talking to makes a wrong move, I don't take chances anymore. However, you could make a career out of PvP as some form of psychopath, blood thirsty bandit, or vigilant sniper (if you have the patience). Some have said the gunplay is poor in DayZ, but I find the mil-sim gunplay with actual recoil and gun sway perfect for the skilled shooter. Again, I do not believe in right or wrong ways to play, which is the beauty of this particular sandbox. There are idiots out there that mindlessly point and shoot, which is frustrating for players because they lose their progression. I've had a fist fight with another bambi, which was at the very best, innane. The killers out there could be more creative. For example, you are a KoS player and meet an ungeared player who backs down from the challenge. Instead of killing this player, force them to strip to their under garments and walk them out into the woods at gunpoint then tell them to run. Now they have nothing and you have made their survival far more difficult, possibly unlikely. I dunno what is so satisfying about racking up a confirmed kill count, but this game is exciting because a looming perma-death forces players to stress when the unknown variable of another survivor is introduced. Few games give me a jolt of adrenaline and not nearly as frequent as DayZ does. This game is awesome. -
Excellent input, thank you! I haven't bled enough times since 1.05 patch to confirm cut severity/variability.

Always aim for center-mass of the torso, unless you can guarantee a head shot from an exact distance with zeroed scope (+/- 10m) out to 300m. Anything more than 315-325m, always center-mass (unless you play on a flippin projector). Use a range finder. Steady your shot by holding breath, no exceptions. Get some experience by picking off infected at different distances, because this practice will help you hone in on how much higher/lower you need to aim for the in-between distances, like 443m. I find that it is easier for me to aim above a target at 270m while zeroed to 200m, instead of zeroing to 300m and aiming lower than my target, this is strictly personal preference. I have noticed that high winds will lead your ballistics laterally. The amount will change as distance to target increases.

Here's an option to consider: Rather than try to cover as many sites as you can in a session, maybe attempt to rotate through a 6-10 crash site loop because the sites are randomized every 30 mins. So think of it in this way: Get to as many crash sites as you can in 30 minutes, then look again in the same places. Change up your "loops" every now and then to increase probabilities. On Oct. 31st I saw smoke at the top of a hill, ran up there, and by that time it had de-spawned! Keep searching dude!

I would agree that the bleed effect is too general, and over-done when stacked. Wounds from infected, wolves, high caliber guns, and low caliber guns are all the same it seems. They will expand on this I'm sure as they continue to re-balance. Your character should not be able to inflict life-threatening wounds from running barefoot. Now infection.... that's another story. But, realistically the lack of variability in wound severity is laughable considering that it was just tweaked.

Yes, everything concerning helicopter crash sites should be working on all versions, check their Twitter for specific information about game progress or server issues.

I thought the loot was broken on my home server too, but I found the M4 at heli site Nov 1. I don't grind for guns, I like to dwell in the city and go heli hunting now and then. I like specialized gear for different regions and missions on the map, so I've definitely a small arsenal. The KA-M is long gone, and so is my LAR, the former on a dead character, the latter to thieves when server hopping was still a thing. These guns are just rare, like ten per server, the LAR is even rarer at 4, and what's even more lame is I never got to shoot mine once!! I've died lots of times, and have experienced the bugs my friends. One time, I killed a zed and the knife got stuck in my hand as a player emerged. I couldn't switch to weapons for protection, but luckily they never spotted me. I was irate because I would have probably died had the other survivor been aggressive. Naturally, shaving allowed me to sheath my knife, how stupid of me! Yeah the KoS types are a drag. Still decent people left out there though. In recent months, it's been 50-50 in my encounters with other survivors. I just love the visceral feel when you spot another player. I don't hunt men (in DayZ), but have recently considered it for sport to be honest, because I haven't seen another survivor in a long time, just abandoned bases, shit is really desolate. AI will never move or respond to stress the way human-controlled characters do. Even if I did decide to hunt someone, I'd probably try to make it psychological by letting them know over a mega phone or maybe a walkie talkie placed in a location they would be. This game is everything CoD and BF isn't, so I wouldn't shoot ya in the face when I saw ya Kean, unless you were torturing bambis. Any way, I'm really not expecting this game to feel legit from a programming standpoint for another year or so on ps4, but I really like the idea of the game and enjoy playing.

I can confirm that two weapons have a chance to spawn at a crash site. I found M4-A1 and KAS-74U, which was confusing and exciting. I play on a 1PP official server.

I've been playing since the game released for PS4. So far, I've found one M4-A1, one KA-M, one VSD, and one LAR. All were at crash sites. This game is being built back up from the ground floor since the engine changed. With each update, there are improvements and unexpected flaws to fix from new content additions. I paid money for a game I couldn't wait to play. That money was in good faith to a process that is far from over, which should hopefully be obvious to all those with complaints. People that have been playing since before version 1.00 might be sick of Chernarus map by now, so I get why they did a DLC before completing other features.

I enjoy role playing games, so I tend to have an active imagination. Try not to get lost in the animation. Instead of a slap, it's a vicious central nervous system reflex, one which can't be replicated by humans because they cannot achieve muscular tetany, unless, possibly with the help of adrenaline on rare occasion. That might be why your character can't outrun infected. KO depends on accumulated shock damage. I've been knocked out by multiple zombies, 3 to 7, but never by 1. The 7 is an estimate, they swarmed me at night in the street after I mistakenly fired my KA-M, the only one I've ever had. You can deduce how that ended. I'm very discerning when engaging infected since then. Sometimes I'll kill several with a gun, sometimes I only knife one and keep moving. It's situational, mostly. As a product of experience, I play in a calculated manner. When I get slack is when die. Let me play devil's advocate... Referring to the example above with unexpectedly violent, unfriendly infected, a concussion and/or fainting, is likely even with a ballistics helmet because it doesn't prevent brain trauma. If your brain accelerates too quickly and your skull is what decelerates all that meat, you'll get fkuced up. All of us have a free-floating brain suspended in fluid within our skulls. That fluid is the only thing responsible for prevention of brain injury due to acceleration. Theoretically, strong neck muscles would aid deceleration to minimize or mitigate injury. (Will soft and strong skills hopefully be implemented in 2020? The damn meter is there above the stamina bar every time the inventory is open.) I guess I'm trying to say I like the shock system the way it is, if I might cast a vote. As far as the car issues, that's so rough, and I feel for you guys. I'm still running places and getting eaten by wolves sometimes.

Depending on the player base, cross play should be considered between the consoles. It's obviously possible, no matter how unlikely. However, kb + mouse is just so unfair when you compare, OP. Get your shit together, get it all together.

Thank you for the info, Doc!

Me too. There are core aspects of the game at stake here that cannot be ignored: If I can make a spear, why can't I make a bow? I would like to see recurve bows and maybe a compound bow also. Knives and bayonets should be included in spear crafting. The basic aspects of survival MUST be integrated back into the game. If I have to watch out for my thirst, hunger, blood, and temperature, all of the things I would need are naturally found in the forest. A type of moss can be used as a disinfectant for wounds. I'd like to be able to use the pick axe to mine coal/charcoal and fill a barrel, allow it to collect rain (as you currently can with the lid open, outside), and thus it becomes filtered, potable water. I would like to craft an improvised shelter from pine branches and sticks. A tee-pee from animal leathers would be great too. Tripwires for mines and snares. Fishing rods, please!!!

I've lost my fair share of items in pine trees, so I feel ya! Sometimes you will get a prompt to dig up an item when in prone. Maybe try to reposition yourself 1,000,000 times, pixel by pixel, after you cut the lumber. I wish you luck man, don't get frustrated.
-
Sorry bud, maybe the type of tree matters somehow? I have no experience with the pines. The tree I chopped to get my stuff back was a pine, but that was first try, I might have gotten lucky by placing my buried item in a good spot. The tree that fell different directions was a huge oak.
-
I've noticed that they fall in different directions. It must have something to do with where you stand or where you face relative to the tree when chopping it down. I had this issue once, but chopping the tree, and luckily, at the correct angle, allowed me to reclaim the buried item.

Repair gets tedious once shoes become damaged and the cycle begins between being worn, and once again damaged. The rate should be adjusted. Even if you are trail blazing, boots, especially military, should wear after 20 to 30 k. Which still isn't much. Basically, every item of footwear is like a cheap pair of sneakers, or joggers, for those in the UK. I'd really like to see the developers add a condition between pristine and worn. For example, fair. This would nicely open avenues for expanded item use and value. The leather repair kit could bring shoes to fair, but duct tape only to worn. Same with the gun cleaning kit. Pristine 5k / Fair 5k / Worn 4k / Damaged 2k / Badly Damaged 1k. This could be a Hiking boot. The worse your item is damaged, the greater the repair cost for the next tier. If damaged, shoes could slow you down slightly. At some point, you should no longer have the option to repair your shoes, because the sole will have worn away. You saw it here first! Send me a Jackson, and I won't say a word, BI (; Big thanks for decreasing item size for pistols and gloves!
-
I get that, and appreciate your idea, because you are correct. For me, the mechanic seems tedious. I would rather be self-sufficient and do repairs instead of having to look for new footwear as often as I currently do.

I think this happened to me earlier today. I know I filled my canteen at the well and not some random source. I would estimate a 5% - 10% chance of infection from town wells in my experience thus far. I have been using cholorine tablets more often though and those are a sure bet every time.

Some observations on sickness
EzyStriderPS4 replied to Mookie (original)'s topic in General Discussion
Something strange happened to me with sickness... Exact order of events: I found a plastic water bottle, emptied it out on the ground, then discarded it because I had no room in inventory. Climbed a ladder, way up high, glitched getting off, and fell three stories. I thought I was dead! I had been knocked on conscious instead and my health went into the red. I came to, and hobbled my lucky ass down the road. My water indicator dropped to yellow so I pounded a fresh canteen, which I know I filled at the well in town and had used before many times without any problem. I started throwing up immediately and had the bacteria icon. I know for fact that my stomach wasn't full. I wonder if that water bottle interaction somehow bugged up my canteen? Does town well water have a small percentage of infection also? Tetra took illness away very quickly.
