in my humble opinion some foods have no effect (or a small effect), like chickens, apples, canned peaches and canned sardines.

First one: if u dont have a knife learn how to build one with a small stone Second: your first priority is food and water, then go loot villages and farms and forguet military bases at your first 30 mins Finaly: you can hunt chickes easy and bake it after 20 mins looking tools for this porpose

Its a bug and there is no solution atm... your gun is gone
