[video] tell me how I can improve.. love it but die a lot.
andysuter replied to Box of Demons's topic in New Player Discussion
Yeah ive been through that and am still am, especially when youve found some decent gear. After a while though you start to become a bit less bothered as most say it doesnt take too long to get all the gear back. Feel free to send me a request on steam and you can join me and another player (we try and avoid bases though) id andysuter1972 -
As Aux says ive been vomiting everytime I eat or drink something now. Its lasted 2 game day cycles so far. Pills don't do anything. Im now about to die as my stomach level drops quite quickly and ive now run out of food. Aux left me alone too long in the game world lol and I ate raw beef from a cow I butchered with my hunting knife. (oh and I never actually wash my hands which I understand can cause issues too). So it does do something, just not straight away. This games a lot more realistic than I thought.... lesson learnt.

Firstly, hello to another yorkshireman! In my short time with the game ive learnt that military bases are usually gonna mean you dont come out alive. They are usually occupied by campers, just waiting for lone wolfs like you to sneak about, collect all the loot, after which they just pick you off as they know where youre going to exit from etc. If you play tactical (which is the best policy but not in military bases (these are quick in and outs), the best way is to just get some high ground or view over the base first. Sit for 5/10 mins and watch movement. You'll usually spot some. You can then either take the other players out from a distance or decide its not worth the risk and move on. It then depends on your playstyle. If you want a gun battle game, then DayZ is brutal.....it can all be over so quickly, even for experienced players -
Hi Mate Im a '40 something' player from Newcastle. Ive just got into the game less then a month ago so still learning it all myself. I play regular with another player who I met on here (Aux7) where we play on the barely infected 'the village' server. a few evenings during the week and sundays usually. The village server is meant to be more roleplay with factions (friendly and hostile) but bear in mind its also public so you can get randoms on there which keeps the KOS threat alive. We are quite cautious and not the run/gun type and shy away from PVP. Youre welcome to join us. my steam name is andysuter1972 I was playing alone before and its like a different game when you play with others. We want to build a base eventually (once its fixed) and im interested in the farming stuff although ive not tried it.

ive got dayz on both the xbox X and my pc and I don't see any difference in graphically play. The big difference is in support and how established the game is on PC now. Theres hundreds of servers, mods if you want them etc. If you have the normal xbox, you wont see any improvement in dayz by upgrading to an X. Its not X optimised.

I bought the xbox version a month ago and had trouble finding a low pop server. Most were medium or high so god knows where this has come from unless its purely cost driven. I actually switched the pc version recently and I don't regret it. It really looks like the xbox version was a money grab to extract cash from the huge play base that the consoles generate. Unfortunately console players (and im one too) are a little less patient than PC players and if the game doesn't work on release then it doesn't last long. Even AAA games can die a death very quickly on console if the devs don't look after the community (look at Read dead online 2)

Hi Guys, Im looking for some recommendations on a new headset I currently have a hyper x Cloud 2 (3.5mm jack not usb) on an onboard soundcard and im getting a lot of delay (I hear my voice 2 seconds after speaking) and echo in the game. Ive tried googling everything and adjusting everything I can find but its still there. I have the latest Realtek drivers (according to device manager driver update search). When googling I see a lot of reports of the Hyper X causing echos etc so I figure (with them being around 2 years old now), its time for a new set. My gaming buddy has crystal clear sound on his headset with all the same settings as me I have a razor keyboard so liked the idea of a razor headset so I can adjust everything in the razor suite software but im open to ideas. Budget around £100 (uk)

Right now the duping is an issue but look past that. The type of player who dupes is the sort that isn’t here for the long haul. They cant be bothered to go find the loot properly so cheat so they can have it all there and then. Getting the best gear is kind of ‘end game’ stuff so once they jump from spawn to end game there isn’t a lot for them to do. Once they got bored of running and gunning and KOS everyone they find, they will get bored. They will move on to another game. The loot will then start to settle down and the game played as intended. Its just a waiting game, either till the devs find a proper immediate fix, or the above runs its course.

Ive started playing with another user on here (Aux) and its much better playing with another player than running solo. We are certainly the hide, stay out of sight types and so far we haven’t fired a bullet. Weve had a few zombie attacks (from me being careless) but I genuinely think there is a way to play this game (ie survive) without even needing a gun. Clearly if you want to play the bandit or run and gun type then guns will be a major priority to you but once you take that need away, suddenly the game opens up so much more and other things become more important. It has for me anyway. Im sure Aux wouldn't mind me saying but others are welcome to join us. (we are playing on PC on an EU RP server)

Its for those that want to get a bit deeper into imagining they are really there. What would your character do, what would they say etc. They’ll likely have formed a community and working together to build a base etc rather than just running around killing everything/everyone they see.

This is me too. I literally have no idea where I am lol.

How exactly does this work? I think id like to get into storing stuff for when I die (usually within the next hour!) My shove has an option to 'position placement' whatever that is
-
Yes sorry, shovel (was typing too fast at work while trying to look busy hahaha) How do you bury stuff though? ps.... ive added you on PC so lets hook up some time. Im on this evening (6pm UTC - till I fall asleep or get sick of dying)

Brilliant! Can you add me. Im UK though so times may be a bit off. suter1972

Have xbox edition but thinking of swapping onto PC
andysuter replied to andysuter's topic in New Player Discussion
so I bought the pc version too and had a go last night. I actually play it with a mix of keyboard, controller and mouse which is getting a bit complicated till i get used to it. (I cant get used to WSAD). The thing that struck me straight away is the amount of loot around. Sooooo much more on PC, decent weapons, decent clothing, loads of standard but useful stuff. Its like falling into a treasure horde compared to the xbox version! Graphics wise its exactly the same as my xbox X and im currently undecided which version I like best but im swaying to PC -
First weekend playing and mixed opinion with a few questions for the expereinced players
andysuter posted a topic in New Player Discussion
Im a new (mature UK) player, always fancied the game on pc but the reviews were always ‘it’s a dead game’ etc. When it came out on xbox I decided to go for it to play on my one X. First weekend of playing it and im a bit mixed on it. Things I like; Aside from lack of initial character customisation (more on that in the dislikes!), the range of options, clothing etc is great, even if they are just colour changes The map is huge and you can mix it with others in the larger cities or disappear off grid into the forests. There are some decent/friendly players (more on that in dislikes!) The tense experience of getting to a loot spawn point and hoping no one else is around Things I dislike; The map is huge and without resorting to online maps, theres no way you are going to learn the map very soon. The majority of players are douchbags and KOS…. I mean im walking around not long after spawn with a kitchen knife and starter clothes and I get torn apart by someone with an assault rifle. Whats the point???? The night is so black…. I thought I would use night to travel but theres no way of navigating at night. The perma death…. I get it, I really do as it adds to the tense feeling but with so many ways to die (mostly other players) I found myself stop caring what my starter looked like as it was going to die in an hour or so anyway. The serious bugs. – I managed to get 4 hours in with one character, looted a military base and got some good gear. I went to the middle of a forest to check my haul and wham ‘you are dead’. No warning, no sounds, full whites…. No one around. I actually gave up at that point. I was gutted. Good experiences; I did stumble into a power plant and got taken out by a guy in full camo gear. Screen went black and I came around on the floor, surrounded by 3 of them. Wasn’t sure what their plans were for me but it was quite fun. Unfortunately they didn’t realise I was bleeding out so soon pegged it. I could hear them cursing as I think it was going to be a good roleplay type moment. If those guys are reading this, hook me up (suter1972) as you guys were sound, (even though I did die!) I have a few questions – How long do your characters last? I have a feeling some last for days/weeks, given the amount of kit they have and others are like me and lucky to get past a few hours. I think I need a group to run with. I like playing solo but its so hard and theres very little chance for roleplay moments as most players just KOS. (im learning that is actually a RP moment in itself!) -
Im a new player and knew what I was getting into, the numerous publicity material even mentions hostile players etc etc. In the last week ive died around 10-12 times, mostly my own fault from being too noisy, deciding to shoot a sheep near a town and not being prepared for what would happen, running around a corner into a few Z’s etc. Ive also been attacked 3 times by other players. 1 was a bambi like me and I managed to beat him, another was a great roleplay moment where I became the unintentional ‘victim’ of and 3rd was a KOS with an assault rifle even though I was unarmed in starter clothes. There was a 4th time where I got insta death so the assumption is I was head shotted. I also met one guy on the streets who said hello and moved on with a ‘keep surviving buddy’ as he went on his way. Im realising that not every player encounter is bad but you’ve got to assume it will be, pretty much as the game steers you to think. For me, its just a shame there isn’t a specific server where people can go that generally don’t KOS but look to the other side of the game, rebuilding humanity and working together. Mix that in with some inevitable KOS players (bandits etc) that will always be out there and you have a perfect game from my perspective. However, what the current status of the game provides is a real sense of nervousness, which if that’s what they intended then I feel they have it spot on. The downside to this is ive started to care less about my characters and stopped trying to ‘re-roll’ to get the starter toon I like but just run with whatever it gives me, which isn’t something I really like or envisaged.

I get occasional rubber banding on my X (when youre running forward then it does a rewind and you are back a few metres again). The other night was really bad but its rare for me. I checked my network connection and im wired with 64mbps download so I think its server end. Hasn’t spoilt the game though as I just switched off and restarted on a different server. As a side, I used to get really bad rubber banding on star wars battlefront, even with 35mbps download over wifi. As soon as I hard wired it went away totally so look at that if you can to test its not your end.

If that's what happened, im ok with that. Id rather be taken out by a player than it being a game breaking bug like that. Just seemed strange that I was in the middle of a forest and it happened, no noise, nothing. It must have been some crack shot. -
I think you guys have sussed it but im on the fence with this one. On one hand its clear exploitation of server hopping which the devs could fix by making buildables carry over to every server? but on the other hand, with so many dupers and KOS/base wreckers on the servers im glad someone found a way to beat it (for the time being) and applaud them for that. PS - as a new player, I didn't realise that what you build doesn't carry over to every server
