Ok so much to unpack here and I'm sure most of the issues I'm going to bring up have probably been uttered a few times so my apologies but, let me just add my two cents and perhaps different take/suggestion on things. *Love the fact that you can free look now although I would have preferred free look be assigned to RB instead of LB but I'm knitpicking here as I'm just glad it's no longer hold RS down. *don't know what's going on when lying prone and trying to go into or move things around in inventory but the rolling around thing needs to stop! *Love the revamped inventory look and shortcuts added. (still getting used to using RT and LT but that will come with time) *Don't like that when moving items say from hand to inventory or vice versa (cant remember which or if it's both) that the cursor doesn't just stay where you originally clicked. Makes micromanaging on the fly impossible and tedious *I don't know why in game chat was not fixed but holding down the d pad instead of the double tap to keep it on needs to be remedied. I'd say a lot of lack of interaction and KOS'ing in part has to do with the fact that chat is tedious now. If it must be a button held down thing then it needs to be either a bumper or a trigger. In other words something other than having to relinquish part control of one of the sticks. *Toggle zoom HAS TO GO *Love that you can lean now but It would be great if you could lean without a weapon. *someone mentioned the inability to open a tuna can and what I found is that you can't open it where you found it but if you relocate to a different area (outside of the building you found it) you can then open it. Which still needs to be fixed especially since relocation while dying of hunger may not always be an option and dying when you clearly have food just seems ludicrous. *Can we please have some sort of advantages/disadvantages for footwear choice besides SOUND LIKE A HEARD OF COWS or complete silence up until your bare feet bleed. (love the animation for the cut foot btw) but anyway why have different types of shoes if they all basically sound the same? I own boots I own trainers I own hiking shoes in real life. they all sound dramatically different when running! *I know people wanted a longer night time and that's great but now its TOO LONG! * I'm sure that after a while after the buzz around the latest update dies down the servers will calm down and you will actually be able to find more than 2 or 3 low pop servers but jesus Christ even the HC servers are High pop. I don't mind high pop but it would've been great to sort of get a feel for the new controller scheme on a low pop server rather than spawning in and being forced to immediately swim to Skalisty just to get a little peace and quiet and feel some degree of safety to "try things out" and since I'm on the subject of servers whats the deal with not being able to search "previously played or favorited" servers? And Lastly...…. *I think it's about time that the ability to fully customize button layout (without having to purchase a several hundred dollar elite controller) needs to be seriously considered! There's always going to be someone unhappy with things and I get that but, at least when it comes to control options the easiest way to shut people up is give them the ability to set the button scheme to however they like it. I'm no development wizard so maybe this is too difficult a task but I think you give people that option 90% of the bitching goes away immediately!

What he means is "Can I have the advantage over controller users and pretend like that's not why I want it so bad?" I'll never understand these people calling for keyboard and mouse..Why don't they just play the pc version if that's what they care about? What's worse are the people who piss and moan about the dupers, meat ballers and combat loggers are the same people who want the key and mouse advantage.

New players. "what i wish i knew when i first started playing DayZ"
HiroCheeseMuh1 replied to bent.toe's topic in Xbox
All great points. I'd only add to the "while running to your next goal..." by saying just run in 1PP it's a lot easier to swivel your head than in 3PP..at least for me that is. Also since you touched on military bases let me add: *Approach such places cautiously and for good measure observe from a distance preferably where you can over look for a while before you approach.. oh and something I forgot when I posted my list: *GET A MIC! lot's of players have a "no mic KOS" rule. Dayz isn't COD most players would rather have a quick chat to decide if a shoot out is necessary or worth it first so if you don't have the ability to have that as an option you're rolling the dice out there. When I come across players w/o mics usually I'll ask that if they don't have a mic but can understand what I'm saying to jump in the air once or twice. If they don't comply I shoot. PERIOD! -

Duct tape is awesome in the game and there is even a glitch you can take advantage of to refill your roll which is great if you have multiple items that need repair or like me like to have numerous back up improvised suppressors. -

*Duct tape can also repair guns, suppressors, backpacks and knives *Be prepared to eat sleep and drink DayZ (I've got stacks of new/unwrapped games that are now collecting dust) *Lot's of racist shit bags in party chats with random players (can't count how many "what do you call a black/Mexican/Muslim/Asian guy who...." jokes I've had the displeasure of hearing) *Don't just automatically join the first faction that makes contact with you on a server (ask me why) *For added stress relief find and keep in your hot bar a lock pick. makes looting a structure less stressful if people are locked out or have to take an extra few seconds to unlock the door to get to you *if you must cross an open field don't sprint. Save your stamina for when you start hearing shots and need to zig zag *You're less likely (but it's still possible) to be KOS if you're not running around in certain areas gun in hand *Atog scope and Combat Sights is for the M4 the SG5-K and the USG-45. Combat Sights offer zero in the way of distance/sniping *Pu scope is for the Mosin (mostly found in the camp grounds) *PSO-1 scope, Kobra Sights and IPN51 scope is for the KA-M. Kobra Sights suck and the IPN51 needs a battery to work and is only night vision so kind of useless during the day *That screeching roaring sound you hear while running through the forests are Deer *The Groaning sounds are Cows *If trying to sneak around avoid chickens at all costs. They'll give away your position in a heart beat. *When you spawn in as a freshie toss the flair away, drink the soda, save the pear for later. Place the stone knife and Rags in your hot bar then carry the stone knife until you find a melee weapon. *To make an improvised backpack you need 1 burlap sack, 1 rope, and 3 short sticks which can be made by cutting down a bush and then splitting the sticks before placing them in your inventory. Craft the Burlap courier bag using the rope and burlap first then place the small sticks on the ground and while carrying the courier bag in your hands hover over and wait for the prompt to craft improvised backpack over the sticks. *To make rope you need two sets of 6 rags meaning you need 6 and 6 and then combine *If you hear the howl of wolves run for the nearest shelter with a door and close it or be prepared to face a whole swarm if you can't find shelter and you're not a crack shot be prepared to then become a fresh spawn after they kill you. I know some people have a problem with server hopping but if ever there was a dignified reason to immediately log off and jump into a different server, I'd say hearing a wolf howl out in the middle of nowhere is a fantastic time to do so if you don't wish to try and fight off about 10 of them. *Logging off as you're being attacked by zombies, wolves or other players will not save you or your gear *Do not get attached to your gear (you WILL die and lose it guaranteed) *be mindful of how much weight you're carrying. There is a reason fresh spawns can run for what seems like forever and a fully kitted guy with multiple guns, ammo and other provisions runs out of gas very quickly. This includes clothing choices. Military outfits might look cool and come with lots of storage but they also weigh a lot more. *Hands down greatest melee weapon in my opinion is the hunting knife or the combat knife in regards to killing zombies. Axes, pick axes, shovels, metal pipes, hatchets weigh more and it can take a few more hits to kill a zombie than both the hunting knife and the combat knife. *Don't waste your time (at least at the moment) with collecting IV kits and saline as death comes extremely quick at this point from everything from being shot to hits from zombies or wolves which means you'll rarely have time for the IV kits and saline bags to ever be of use unless someone comes to your rescue immediately and it just so happens pigs began to fly and you actually went unconscious instead of dying out right. Hopefully the devs will implement the ability to go uncon and get broken bones more often and take the one shot kills down a notch at some point. *Don't waste your time trying to go toe to toe with more than 2 zombies at a time. If you have lots of stamina and can run then run and keep running eventually they'll give up *If you happen to find a working car they're manual transmission and gears are changed via up and down on the d-pad *having a backpack is great but just remember orange, red, blue and purple are very easy to see *If you're just starting out and want to get a feel for the game, controls and do some stress free exploring avoid Medium, high and full pop servers. *the HC next to server names means Hard Core which means you play only in first person perspective and don't have that directional dot thing. *Don't be afraid of HC servers or playing in first person as 99% of the time the HC servers are extremely low pop and first person perspective adds a level of drama to the game that 3rd person perspective just doesn't provide. Plus on HC servers everyone has to peak in order to see around things instead of using 3rd person to get the drop on someone's perspective so it kind of levels out the playing field and I find people are less likely to be KOS'y on HC servers..When you become really skilled in the game it can be oddly satisfying to run around in first person on 3rd person servers and still be able to out play someone. *People used to say don't run down the roads as it makes you an easy target but I feel like everyone is so busy running in the woods they hardly pay any attention the roads anymore. I'm not saying this is definitely safer just that it's not as risky as people make it out to be *before you build a fire make sure you've cut down a tree or two and collected logs first because the fire will go out quickly if you don't have kindling *Don't turn into strictly a Kos'er. part of the experience of playing DayZ is the interaction with other players. *What I've found playing on servers from different regions: US servers = more hostile towards others and more likely to get KOS'd. NL servers= highly populated by people from the US but less hostile as US servers and chances of actually communicating with a player vs KOS is higher but not guaranteed. RU servers = lots of Russian players that don't fuck around. They're not super KOS'y but I wouldn't consider them less hostile either. I've had some very intense interactions on RU servers where a lot of the time I was never sure if I was going to make it out alive or not. SG servers = I believe these are the Asian based servers and what I've found is running into someone who doesn't speak a word of English is much higher but I've also noticed that Asian players approach the game a lot less hostile and more likely than any other server to just be super chill, say hello and then keep it moving. Obviously variety and variation exists everywhere so these descriptions of players on different servers should not be taken as hard and fast rules just what my experiences have been. -
I have some suggestions that I'd like to see implemented at some point but before I give those, I feel like a different perspective needs to be considered with the issues of duping, combat logging and ghosting by other players. 1. Duping: Personally I don't care that much about it because usually the people who do it or take advantage of it are sub par PvP'ers who use "type of gear" as a crutch. If you're a skilled PvP'er (I'm definitely not) then using strategy, patience and cunning should level the playing field against the dupers. I enjoy the gathering of gear and the risk involved in trying to loot normally "gear rich" areas so to me duping is just a sign that the player is missing the whole point of the game and is actively working towards burning themselves out of playing DayZ which in the end means sooner or later they'll move on to some other game and the rest of us can continue to enjoy the whole reason we decided to play in the first place, but obviously that's just my two cents and understand not everyone views the world through a glass is half full perspective. 2. Combat Logging: Again this is an area where I don't really care if a person does this because not everyone who does it is logging off due to lack of PvP skill. Admittedly I have done this so my perspective is going to be a little biased here but hear me out as to my reasons for doing so when I did. The times that I did combat log, I did so because I was playing the game differently than the people who were either trying to instigate combat or who I assumed just by their demeanor were going to KOS no matter if I tried to engage them in conversation or not. During these times I was purely in "explorer mode" and had spent a great deal of time doing just that, exploring! And felt like my good time should not be spoiled simply because some people have a blood lust. Although I have never combat logged during an actual gun fight as that's just cowardly but don't just assume a person combat logs out of cowardice EVERY SINGLE TIME! We all agree that there is no one way to play this game and why some of you might be actively looking for PvP others may not and have a right to disengage from players and scenarios who do. I see a lot of the same people who say "there is no one way to play the game" who sometimes in the same breath, piss and moan about players who don't play the game the way that they prefer. Think about that for a bit. 3. Ghosting: Here is where I completely agree something needs to be done because the ability to disappear when at a disadvantage during a gun fight to only reappear in a more advantageous spot and turn the tables is 100% horse shit! But the answer, just like when it comes to combat logging, IS NOT a throw EVERYONE under the bus, just to prevent the FEW people who utilize this issue for an advantageous situation. So the answer is simple, If you log out to try an ghost via server hopping to get a better position then when you log back on to the server you respawn back to where you originally logged off. And yes I know people are going to try and say "I logged off because I needed to go" as an excuse for being able to ghost but the way around that bs is, you're only allowed when logging back in to the same server in that newer location AFTER a certain time period, say 10 mins. Meaning that it gives the players defending themselves against possible ghosters enough time to have moved on from what ever position/area they were defending so that when the "ghosting" player returns, there is little chance to rejoin a battle from a better position. It essentially removes the incentive to ghost because by the time they're capable of logging back on from that more advantageous spot, the other players are more likely than not to have already moved on and the players that "had to go" that logged out obviously wouldn't care that they returned back to the same spot because their reason for logging off had nothing to do with trying to get the upper hand in a battle. The only downside to this are players who are trying to raid a base that they just cant get into without ghosting as whether or not the defending players are there or not is not the real concern. I don't know how you would prevent that from happening outside of some sort of computer code wizardry that I'm too much of a moron to possibly understand let alone type out here. Now as for my suggestions or "What I hope for?" 1. Personalized controls preferably, but specifically bring back double tapping down on the D-pad to turn on and leave on in game chat. Having to hold it down to chat while simultaneously trying to keep moving around to avoid possible snipers and being able to turn to keep an eye on the player you're chatting with just DOES NOT WORK! So either bring back the double tap to leave the mic on and thus free up your fingers to be able to still realistically have a chat while avoiding getting sniped and being able to look around or make it an option you can quickly turn on in settings although why you would opt for the more complicated way I'm not really sure. The other specific thing that NEEDS TO BE CHANGED is free look. It needs to be regulated to either R bumper or R Trigger (while on the move) or the Left Stick needs to FULLY control EVERY aspect of a players directional movement and Right stick needs to strictly control free look meaning you can be running via Left stick while swiveling free look with the Right stick and you won't change direction unless you move Left stick in that direction. Having to click and hold down Right stick in order to free look absolutely blows as most of the time it results in me either ending up staring down at my own player, staring up in the air, scanning wildly thus removing the point of free look OR if pressure doesn't remain constant you end up turning in the direction you were looking which in 1PP can sometimes completely disorient you especially while running through the woods where everything looks the same. I can't even count how many times this has happened while I was on the move and because of the disorientation I ended up either heading back the way I came or ended up going in an entirely different direction than I had intended. This needs to change IMMEDIATELY 2. Some are going to disagree with me here but I DONT think keyboard and mouse should be implemented into DayZ Xbox. My reason is simple, If you want the sort of control and hot key options found in the PC version then you should just play the PC version. Why should you now have an extra advantage on Xbox against players not playing via keyboard and mouse? Pick a lane and stop trying to have your cake and eat it too. The funny thing about this is the people who keep requesting it are the same people who complain about the dupers, combat loggers and ghosters gaining the advantage on them. So let me try and follow your logic, you don't like it when people get the advantage over you but you're perfectly fine having the advantage over other players? lol you do realize the hypocrisy there right? 3. Suppressors (not the water bottle improvised ones) but the actual suppressors need to have a much longer life span. I'm not saying make them unbreakable but they definitely need to work much longer than they currently do. I'd also like to see other options for improvised suppressors as well. 4. Again some are going to disagree with me here but I DONT think you should be able to pick your fresh spawn point. As it is everyone heads for the bigger loot rich cities and loots or camps waiting for other players. What do you think is going to happen if you give everyone the option of spawning into Electro, Berezino, Rify or any other highly populated/desired area? I get it that if you're playing with friends you would like to be able to spawn closer to them and avoid the long hike to get back to them but part of what makes DayZ the game that it is, is the randomness, the adventure and yes even the annoyance of spawning a gazillion Km away from where you want to be. Just like the keyboard and mouse thing I really don't think you should be given an advantage or be provided the ability to just skip the stuff that you don't like simply because it's an inconvenience. If anything I'd like to see more spawn in points and perhaps points that are sometimes inland or hell out on the islands where you would have to actually swim to the mainland. 5. I think we all agree on more gun and attachment options so I wont bother beyond this sentence on that. 6. I know there is mixed feelings about the stamina bar (whether to increase it or get rid of it altogether) my perspective is that being DayZ is sort of based on IRL situations and survival then so too should your ability to increase your stamina via all the running and hiking you do in this game. I think that's a happy medium. You keep the stamina bar but you have the ability to increase your stamina over time as you play the game. Same as what happens in real life. If you start jogging at first you can barely go for very long before needing to stop or rest but over time you build up more and more stamina and can go for longer distances and periods of time. 7. Can we all agree NO ONE wants or uses the BK 18? 8. Something needs to be done about the wolves. They are way too persistent, there can at times be an unrealistic swarm of them and since when is any animal a bullet sponge and been able to take multiple shots from an M4 or any gun beyond a .22 for that matter and still keep on coming? I get zombies not being taken out by a singular shot but animals? That's ridiculous! hell 99% of animals just hearing a gun shot would cause them to scatter let alone taking multiple bullets to the head or body. If they were bears, sure but wolves? That's incredibly unrealistic. 9. Someone else said it but I'd like to see some designated safe zones but, my only caveat is, only if there are only a few scattered around the map and NONE of them should be anywhere near a military base or tents. 10. Also there needs to be more chance for going UNCON or getting broken bones rather than the auto death that happens now unless it's head shots. 11. Advantages/Disadvantages to types of shoes or going shoeless. I know right now going shoeless seems to only have advantages so obviously there needs to be some disadvantages created for that but I think it's a little extreme to give players automatic bleeding damage as that's unrealistic but, there definitely should be some drawbacks to going shoeless besides people's ire. The volume on footsteps definitely needs to be turned down as the noise generated by moving in running shoes is going to greatly differ from running in work boots, hiking boots, etc IRL. but I definitely think there needs to be some variation in advantages/disadvantages with shoe choice beyond "do I want to sound like a herd of cattle running through the streets or like a slightly less stealthy ninja?" 12. Hunger/thirst levels dropping/replenishing need to be a bit more realistic. I can understand getting thirsty if you've ran for miles and miles without stopping but there's a reason you don't come across dozens of dead dehydrated bodies when you go for a morning or midday jog around the local track IRL. I understand that time is moving much faster in game than IRL but can we just make it a little bit more realistic than dropping dead over the equivalent of what would be a jog around the block in reality? And hunger is even worse. I get it that your player isn't sitting down to a feast at every meal but for Christ's sakes no one gets that hungry that quickly nor does anyone drop dead almost immediately once their stomach starts growling. 13. I don't think I need to mention the frame drops, crashes, glitches etc., as it's obvious the devs are well aware of those issues. 14. I'd like to see more weather variance. Everything from a warm sunny day to hurricane's and tornadoes would be cool but obviously being Chenarus is an actual real life place I get it that weather patterns in game would probably be more consistent with how the weather actually is in real life there. Lastly.... 15. Loot regeneration! While I consider myself pretty breezy and ultimately extremely satisfied with DayZ in it's current form to the point where even though there are things I'd like to see fixed, changed or implemented, I genuinely dig this game to the point where It would be a safe assessment to say I'm addicted considering I have stacks of new games that I haven't even unwrapped because all I do is play this however, there just doesn't seem to be any sort of discernible schedule or pattern on the regeneration of loot and I don't mean just in the military bases and tents. I understand the desire to make gun regen a little more random and based purely on luck at times but normal provisions sometimes seem unrealistically unpredictable. I mean tons of apple trees and zero apples EVER! supermarkets/stores with nary a can good? I wish I could eat head lamps because if I could I'd be fat af considering there are way too many of those in game and has anyone seen where all the duct tape and pu scopes have gone? Plenty of potatoes sitting in the back seats of rotting cars though. lol this doesn't make any sense! I'm just saying maybe not everything has to be soooooo random is all. Other than that I love the game and appreciate just the fact that it's on Xbox as I spent many a year being a bitter beaver watching other players with gaming pc's play a game that I desperately wanted to play but couldn't! which is why as I said in #15 I genuinely dig this game and even if nothing changed I'd still be perfectly content as it's just a game unlike any other I've ever played and have never once found myself bored in any way whatsoever. Even while jogging for an hour completely lost, circling the map through the forests and making no contact with other players the entire time. DayZ is truly an awesome game that makes me a bit confused when you hear people who've never played, used to play or just try and shit all over the game and complain about it because there is no game (at least anything I've ever played or seen) that's like this. The endless possibilities, the randomness, the experiences, etc you just don't find this with any other game and that's why it doesn't make sense that so many people piss and moan over stuff that in the grand scheme of things are pretty minimal or understandable considering the size, scope and variation that this game is. I've heard people say it's "unplayable" When? when has that ever actually happened because every time I log on it works just fine. Sure there are glitches here and there, sure there are advantages that some players who would probably suck without them will take, sure it's not perfect but unplayable? Sucks? I don't know what the hell you're talking about when you say things like that. You're obviously playing the wrong game as far as I'm concerned. Maybe DayZ just isn't for you?

I’m relatively new to the game so I apologize if this has been suggested previously but, is there any interest in a sort of scavenger/treasure hunt where say for example, Someone stashes an item somewhere on the map then come back to the forum with server info and clues to where the item is located and the person that finds it gets some small prize or bragging rights or something? Any interest in something like that or does that sound lame?
-
Lol nah I completely feel your pain with all the kos’ing 👍🏼
-
Save your breath, the guy is determined to be unhappy and complain no matter what. In my opinion it’s the people who either suck at the game or are upset that Dayz isn’t a COD/Fortnite/H1Z1 clone that bitch the most. Base building is what he’s most upset about apparently except I kind of feel like the implementation of base building by the Devs was just so the fortnite whinners would shut up. Dayz, at least for me, was always meant to be a roaming survival game which is why the map is gigantic. Why would you want to take what makes the game great and reduce it down to “I’m just going to camp and only engage when someone comes around?” Of course the game seems boring or the occasional bug or glitch makes it seem unplayable to players like that because their playstyle isn’t really suited for a game that isn’t super 100% high pace with an every man for himself within an ever shrinking safety zone vibe to it. One of my biggest fears with Dayz is someone high up will be like “what if we completely ruin what makes the game fun and unique and turn it into yet another version of H1z1 where instead of a realistic survival experience where one can choose to be a passive non-combative player role playing as if it were actually him out there, and just force everyone into yet another game of king of the mountain?” This guys’ gripes especially what he’s mainly griping about are indicative of someone who honestly probably should just play something else where not much thought other than what gun should I have is Involved . He’ll just continue to argue no matter what you say because he’s determined to be upset.
-
All good. I think you might have been responding to another post I had made in the thread directly below this one “So Frustrated” where the guy was talking about all the kos’ing.
-
I hear you but, if there is a silver lining I’m noticing less and less kos’ing when I play.... of course I don’t spend much time on the coast anymore and spend most of my time exploring and looting up inland. I don’t know how much time you or others have spent exploring the map beyond the usual hot spots but I’ve come across places I had never seen and I’ve been watching other players do play throughs of Dayz since like 2015-ish. I’d say best places to get gear as a new spawn are inland at some of the smaller towns like Dubprovka, Gorka, Polana, etc. I do hit the airfields and military bases/tents but the key there is to scope things out from a distance for a bit and learn to be satisfied with what you occasionally do find and get out. The times I got Kos’d the most was when I had already found some good loot but the “what if’s” got the better of me and I ended up spending way too much time in an area I should’ve know better to not to. Another source of finding players to play with is looking at the group section on your Xbox. There are tons of people looking for other people to play with and be cooperative. You just have to find one that interests you. Im mostly on the NL servers so if you see my screen name Hirochimuh26 hit me up I’m always down to team up.
-
Sorry for the lack of response caught the flu or something but anyway yeah I see the activity level for Xbox players is rather low so I was hoping maybe to do something about that. I’m not into all the PvP stuff because I get too attached to my gear lol plus One of the reasons I got into the game was watching other players like Mr. Blackout, M1NDR and others create a sort of a camaraderie with other players and go on adventures of sort. I dig some of the role play stuff too with the factions and such which I know probably sounds geeky af but part of the allure of the game is the experience right? But anyway I’m not sure logistically how to make my idea come to light but I definitely want to try and put something together. Any input, ideas, etc is totally welcome. I’m sure we can even incorporate some pvp situations for those who just want duke it out with others, but of course first things first is finding a way to generate more interest.
