200 hours in and still having a blast, though I'll admit I've taken breaks here and there since launch while waiting for things to patch up
-
Wat. People actually run from zombies in this game? Why? Pick up an item and kill the damn thing.
-
Have a can of beans, lord knows you'll need'em!

Staying warm is easy and I haven't had a problem doing so on any of my characters. Never had to make a fire before. All you need is a combination of clothes that would obviously keep you warm in the cold. Rain coats, hunter pants, any hat is enough to do the trick.

That's the most amazing spelling of guarantee I've seen in my life.

Well that's some poop on my shoes

What's wrong with damaged grenades? Should I toss mine that I'm carrying around? Will they blow me up?

Can't get energized / healthy no matter how much I eat.

Eat bacon, it works, I swear -
I feel like server operators have been able to do this for quite some time. I don't think this is exclusive to the stable builds. This isn't discussed because this is a known exploit for getting good loot fast, and it's actually quite common, I've witnessed it before first hand (on Stable). Essentially people who run servers can simply spawn in cycles of loot in short amounts of time. I've seen it before awhile ago so I feel like this isn't a new thing

Same FPS with OC'd GTX 970 as GTX 670

If the game was mostly CPU dependent and bottlenecked, wouldn't we be able to turn up GPU-dependent settings without any significant hit to framerates? (Resolution, rendering quality options, MSAA, etc.?) Anyone understand what I'm trying to say? -
I'd like to have the option to cannibalize people. If I have no other options and there's a fresh corpse in front of me, I can't think of a single good reason why it couldn't be implemented. I'd say there are already more superfluous features already in the game, this one wouldn't hurt and you have to admit the idea is kind of fun. People need to remember that in the future of DayZ, there will likely be more maps and survival scenarios to come where food could be potentially be scarce enough that cannibalism is warranted.

Ever see The Wire? Young'yin gets bullets to the chest (and face?) on camera.

Considering how far this game is from being finished, I doubt it's the final state...

I get about 30 FPS in big cities no matter what settings I have (low or high). But I don't really spend the majority of my time in big cities. I usually focus on the average gameplay experience, not the minimum FPS. Of course it's preference but it looks hell of a lot better than turning the game's settings down or using an ingame AA solution. When it comes down to it, I'm not turning down all my settings a huge amount just for a slight increase in playability in areas I don't spend the majority of my time in. :) -
Gee, it's almost as if people are waiting for the finished product before logging all of their hours into the game... You think that's an indication that people think the game sucks? I think the only thing being indicated is that you're clueless. People play more than one game. Even then - whenever I check, the DayZ servers are packed. Moreso than "most played" on Steam. That's right - go to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and sort the servers unfiltered. It's unlikely you'll find 200 people playing in the entire world in any given moment on regular ol' CS servers. Do the same with DayZ? I usually see at least 300+ collectively players playing on low-latency servers at any given moment. How can players be universally unsatisfied when it clearly has more client/server activity than any other game on Steam?

Here's a trick: turn up your settings until the game's FPS starts to decrease slightly. That way, the game will at least look better. Have everything maxed ingame? Turn off the ingame AA solution and start using dynamic super resolution on your GTX 970 instead. I upgraded my 670 and also put a GTX 980, nice zippy SSD and 16gb of RAM in my PC, DayZ runs a lot better, even with my settings turned up a lot higher than they used to be. For example, I used to run the game at 1200P with AA on low and ambient occlusion off. Now I run the game at 1697P (or whatever 2x 1200P is), with low AA and SMAA and ambient occlusion on. Game looks uber sharp, smooth, and runs the same as it used to. -
Anyone excited for the .357 Lever action?

Actually, that isn't the point of an alpha, dingus. The point of an alpha is to introduce gameplay features. Bug-stomping and anti-hacker stuff comes in beta... I think the majority of people who post who don't understand what the heck an alpha is... -
Re-iterate in a way I can understand. To me it sounds like you think a mechanic shouldn't exist because your playstyle has a lot of running and not a lot of food eating. That isn't everyone's playstyle. Some people get food, camp, and aren't subject whatever effects being under stress would cause to your digestion system. What is your point anyways? You don't poop? Your point sucks dude...no matter much you hike or how little you eat - you have to eventually poop. You say it's slow, but guess what - the digestion process in this game is sped up, so it wouldn't be THAT slow, and even then, at least the mechanic would still be in the game...
-
People will still stock up on food and water. Just because you suck at the game and don't have food and water doesn't mean other people aren't good at the game and lack having plenty of it. So then, your argument for it not existing is because you suck at the game, which isn't a valid argument. What about people who don't suck at the game, don't hike all the time, and have tons of food? Why can't they take a crap? You're applying your situation to everyone else's. Not everyone spends their time in this game hiking 24/7 with no food. Plenty of people have tons of food and are already where they want to be, even in .50. Case in point: Every point in your post is completely arbitrary... Stop applying your circumstances to everyone globally. DayZ isn't a hiking trip for everyone...and who cares how little you poop? The point is that it's in the game. The hunger mechanics are obviously sped up, so the pooping would be too. They can even please people like you and make it so people who hike more poop less. Or is that thinking too much outside the box?
-
But the point is you still poop. And DayZ isn't an actual survival situation, usually people are healthy and luxuriously stacked on food - rarely characters in this game are going through great lengths of time without eating or drinkings (just fresh spawns). Ever watch Survivorman? Les Stroud poops. Poop's a part of life. Why ignore it?
-
For example, it'd be great to see an unarmed runner shit his pants from being chased too long at an inconvenient time. Pooped pants should reduce run speed by 33%, so then the unarmed runner wouldn't be able to get away anymore. Or maybe you're hanging around NWAF and you hear some chunky poop farts coming from the tree 20 meters behind you. You sneak over there and discover a sniper dropping his load, kill him, take his stuff. etc. But if they include pooping, should they include pissing too? It would make sense I guess.
-
I've been chilling around Vybor, I see a lot of people hang around there. It's a nice mix of fresh spawns and uber-geared military people. Great for bandit fun. It's small so it's easy to tell if anyone's in the area. Often see people in the Northern cities, even on lower-pop servers. I used to hang out in Electro and Cherno often but would rarely see players.

My favorite kills in the DayZ mod involved me baiting people into locations and then blowing them up. Aiming grenades in ArmA 2 is really fucking difficult and potentially dangerous unless you're in a wide open area, so it was really satisfying if you could net a kill with one. They weren't extremely rare back in the day either, so I wouldn't have to choke up with anxiety when I grasped the weight of the situation at hand. I haven't even seen a grenade in standalone yet, but I've killed a handful of people in the mod with a nade (but only 1 at a time...). Has anyone used any nades in standalone? Any epic kill stories? I remember back in Namalsk, getting an awesome kill by chucking a grenade up at a bloke who was camping above the ladder of the underground tunnels. I'd like to hear something entertaining like that.
-
I think it would add a lot of entertainment to the game. Seriously, why not? Adds tons of possibilities to the game. Doesn't have to be frequent. Just adds another bit of realism, as well as the potential for some interesting scenarios. I hope in the future they also add the ability to cannibalize fresh corpses.

Are these weather effects a bit too much?
t1337dude replied to Sistinas1973's topic in General Discussion
I think the system works well right now, but obviously could use a bunch of tweaks and fixes. Haven't died once from being cold yet though. They should get rid of the spammy heat status messages and keep it to the inventory UI. I noticed if you wear those camo boonie hats, you're automatically protected from the rain. Not sure how realistic it is but it's pretty neat.
