My team and I went through about 5-6 vehicles before learning most of the bugs and odd behavior (usually dying in the process). We now have 2 cars working well, and progress getting our third going along with a base. I have always been the "driver" of our group since the DayZMod days of yester year, so I thought I would share what I've learned for those other "drivers" out there who just crave that sweet smell of exhaust fumes and vodka! Tips for vehicles in DayZ 1.0 - 1. If the salvageable vehicle appears to be stuck in the ground. DO NOT GET IN, it will snap out of the ground so violently it will likely kill you or shoot you into outer space. - The only fix I have seen so far is to drive a running vehicle very close to the "bugged" truck, it's important to drive VERY SLOWLY near the bugged vehicle or you can destroy it. Once close enough, it should pop out of the ground and be fine. Do all repairs after this step. 2. If you get in your vehicle and it starts "hopping", "bouncing", "rolling" or "levitating", or any combination of these things, I suggest you exit immediately, if you can. This seems to be caused by server lag and will almost certainly cause major problems. - Your best bet here is to wait for a server reset or less peak times as I'm fairly sure this is caused by the server lagging. 3. Avoid driving close to trees or other objects, ESPECIALLY if any of the signs from #2 exist, I sent a car to the moon this way, my character didn't survive. 4. Pretty sure motor oil is useless, at least for now, one of my vehicles has been running for days without ever adding oil. 5. Players can pretty easily destroy the radiator by shooting at you, immobilizing the vehicle until it's replaced. - If you try to run someone over, know this might be the price you pay (not that I know from experience or anything *cough cough*) 6. Don't drive above 60kph. You can, sure, but with random client hang-ups and moments of server lag, the faster you are going only increases your chances of hitting something and bricking the car. - If you do crash, try to salvage any car parts you can, because they will otherwise despawn with the crashed car fairly quickly. 7. Use caution when running up to the car, it can launch your character up into the air above it, so far none of us have died from this but we have had some GREAT laughs! 8. Use extreme caution near the edge of the map, If the car rolls off the map (indicated by brush and foliage) it will become stuck. - We lost 2 cars at the same time driving up the edge of the map, there was a client-freeze that caused loss of control and both vehicles became stuck when they slid off the map border. 9. Most Important - Advise all passengers entering the vehicle that they may die at any moment for any reason, or for no reason at all. - This will ease the pain (a little) when the inevitable bug kills you, a party member, or all of you. It's worth noting none of this would be possible without the efforts of my solid team. Thanks to their hard work, I am able to chase my dreams of carting their asses around the wastelands while they gear up like Rambo. I can't imagine securing and maintaining a vehicle without any help. I will update this if I discover any new things that are worth mentioning! Thanks for reading!

I would just mention I have probably put over 500 miles on a couple vehicles over the last few weeks and when the server isn't lagging I find them QUITE enjoyable! The driving/shifting mechanics keep it interesting and the map design/scenery in this game is great!

Why not just get rid of the 90 second "server hopping" timer, and instead, make logging out take 90 seconds?

How Frequent Do You Want PC Updates?
DenverDeCoY1 replied to Survivor1431's topic in General Discussion
Instead of a specific update frequency. I just want a dedicated developer's phone number, any time I encounter a bug or lacking feature, I can just text them and they will start working on it right away! ? -
Why would anyone wanna play this game offline?!?! what!?
-
Again, the official servers are NOT synced with real life time! I play exclusively on official US servers and I can ALWAYS find a day server. Seems to be like 1 hour of day and 30 minutes of night, if I had to guess.

I've been enjoying vehicles A LOT! Since getting used to all the bugs and weirdness, they have really allowed me to enjoy the VERY WELL DONE landscape! My team now has 5 cars across different servers and they have all served us very well so far. New Tip: If your friend disconnects mid ride because he is playing on a potato (like my friend john). It may cause the car to spasm out uncontrollably (See condition #2), I have been able to survive so far by ejecting rapidly.

Neat addition to the game but seems pointless to me as everyone is using discord or other VOIP services...
-
I can confirm, driving an existing car close to the "sunken" vehicle will pop it out of the ground. I was a little nervous to test this with my only working vehicle, but I got 2 now so it was worth it lol!

I play exclusively on official servers and I can always find a daytime server, I don't understand why this post even exists... there is always at least one daylight official server, always.
-
It's unlikely there are hacks allowing "teleportation" as I would like to think the server would disagree with that. But I wouldn't be surprised if there are "ESP" hacks out there, allowing players to get a heads-up display of nearby (or distant?) entities, such as tents. I have heard of players just running along the boarder of the map as this is where MANY people tend to build bases. Was your base near the edge of the map?
-
There are always daytime servers, just gotta find them. The "Day / Night indicator" doesn't seem to work very well. So I always join the servers with medium and higher populations, those servers always tend to be in the daytime.

Maybe bullets don't go through those windows for some reason? When he was outside the window, it didn't look like you were actually damaging him. It's much more likely that your bullets weren't going through the glass, rather then he had some kind of "god mode"

Anyone offer good advice (No haters please)

Cars = End game. Also they are far more dangerous then players or zeds. -
I didn't see any hacks, I just saw you missing... alot... sorry :(
-
Yeah you gotta reload it with R dude, its not an auto shotty!

How bout if you die in game you die in real life? Like someone comes to your home and kills you? More hardcore than OP's idea, jus sayin.

Concept suggestion: Heat-seeking missiles

Maybe they could just add a hotkey that instantly kills everyone else on the server! -
The game seems to be even more bugged and glitched

Since returning after hearing about 1.0, I have died more to cars then I have players and zombies combined. Nice write up! -
I am a returning DayZ (mod) player, my old crew got together starting around a week ago and here are my thoughts so far: Pros: Game runs smooth as butter. New Controls/Character movement is greatly improved. AI seems better along with more consistent loot spawning. Cons: Since returning, we have managed to fully repair 5 cars. All of which have failed massively because of ridiculous bugs. It's a shame vehicles weren't fixed before the game was "released" as it's a pretty big let down for me. Every single vehicle would either kill us instantly upon repairing and getting into the drivers seat. Or blow up in some other stupid way, usually killing the driver. Overall: If the devs follow through with everything (which the community seems skeptical of) this game has HUGE potential. In general it is a major improvement from the old DayZ mod days. Really sucks that cars would be released in the "official release" of this game, in their current state. I would rather they had been left out completely. I will probably take a break now and keep up on the patch notes till I hear something about cars being fixed.

Returning DayZ(mod) veteran, impressions on 1.0
DenverDeCoY1 replied to DenverDeCoY1's topic in General Discussion
What does this have to do with the developers? Do you honestly think the devs have anything to do with when the game leaves "early access"? I mean, SOMEONE is responsible for the game going "1.0" with the vehicles in their current state, along with numerous other bugs, but I hardly think it was the developers lol. -

Not really sure what this means but thanks. Yeah I am usually the "driver" for my group, so fixing and stashing cars is kind of my thing. Sure sucks to invest so much time only to get killed by a glitch every time :(
