    NVG question

Maybe it's just my game, but the "toggle lights" option does not show up for me unless I have nvg and torch with working batteries in both on my helmet. If I take the torch off or do not have a working battery in it, "toggle lights" doesn't appear. But, as I said, it might just be my game.

    Lessons learned

The thing is you need to act the way you would if you were really in the situation; your priorities are water, food, and gear in that order. If you are play DayZ to make friends, this is the wrong game for you 😉 Always, ALWAYS presume any players you see are hostile. Teaming up with a stranger or strangers is risky at best, as you have experienced. That being said, if I see a player that looks like he could use some help, I will do so if it does not put me in undue danger. My steps are always: 1. Get to a secure location where you can see that he is indeed alone and not bait for an ambush. 2. Call out to him from cover without giving your position away. If he reacts by looking around, but does not answer, he may not have a mic or he may be in party chat with his buddies telling them that he has a fish on the hook nearby and that they should start pushing on the area. 3. If he does not talk back, get the hell out of there. If he does talk back, take note of how long he takes to respond; he might be conferring with his team between talking to you, in which case get the hell out of there. 4. Presuming that you haven't got the hell out of there and that he seems legitimately friendly, ask him what he needs before coming out of cover. If you can help him, tell him to move to a specific location like inside the nearest building and meet him there. Have your gun ready and always keep your head on a swivel and your ears pricked for the sound of hurried footsteps. 5. You may have made a new friend, but trust is never on the table for at least a trip to vmc, nwaf and tisy together. 6. Never let your guard down in the first few hours. If you need to stop to eat or drink, do so in cover (as you should be doing any way). Do not put your weapon away until you are by yourself and safe. 7. If something happens that makes you uneasy with them, like they are reckless, asking for things that you need or suggesting that you go and meet up with his buddies, cut the umbilical. Survival is your #1 priority and if this new "friend" is putting that in jeopardy, he is expendable. I hope these tips help. I've played since DayZ launched in game preview, but have always been enthralled by the concept of the game since it came out on pc, though never having played it. My first encounter with another player was exactly how I detailed in the steps, though I was the player in need. I am actually amazed that he didn't kill me because my mic was not working, I was overencumbered and so couldn't drop the gun in my hand and I tried to run, lol! I never got his name and after the server reset, I never saw him again, but his legend lives on... The point is there are friendlies out there, you just need to take the necessary precautions when dealing with any player you meet.

    Infinite duct tape glitch...

LOL, obviously the game has to have some accelerated realism, ie shoes wearing out after 10 or so KILOMETERS. The day/night cycle is accelerated so did you expect nothing else to be so? As @DayzDayzFanboy said, you are exaggerating a lot. If you are looking for a game where you can build a huge base without your tools ruining, play Minecraft. If you want a game with indestructible suppressors, play pubg or cod. The way I see it is that the devs have a vision for what the game will be and they are focused on that. What the player's think the game should be is irrelevant. You want a game that is exactly what you want in every aspect? Make your own damn game, but don't expect the player base to love everything that you do. #gamedevlife

    Infinite duct tape glitch...

Quack quack? LOL! Yeah, that's why I said: Yeah, I haven't seen any evidence of duping first hand, however I've seen youtube video showing duping in 1.05. The give away that someone is doing it on your server is that you will inexplicably lose a lot of health, as the exploit affects all players on the server in that way for some reason.

I think you misread/didn't read the post.

    Counter Duping with IP Bans

You are presuming to know alot about a company that you do not work for. What you say about banning paying customers doesn't really make sense since they already have their money. Pubg does it, so why wouldn't BI. I've seen you and your negativity on these forums, so I'm not really interested in anything you have to say 😊

@DayzDayzFanboy thankyou! I can feel the relief already 😎

@ImpulZ is there any way to mute a community member so you don't see their posts? Some people keep popping up with their irrelevant opinions and gradeschool grammar and spelling like a bad penny...

    I wasn't KOS!!

Trust? What's that? In DayZ, trust can only be earned after speaking, trading, sharing, hunting & killing together for months, imo. When I was regularly playing with a group, one guy decided to betray us all and he had been "trusted" for a couple of weeks. I can understand someone wanting to kill me if I've stumbled upon their base; I would do the same since what's to stop them coming back with friends and raiding me? If you kill them, that at least gives you some time to pack up and move.

    Counter Duping with IP Bans

Exactly, everyone's time is valuable, so wouldn't that indicate that if you haven't needed to dig up your stash in over 7 days, that you don't need it? When you think about it, time is one reason why the hoarders hoard all the top tier loot; when they die, they don't have to go to all the time and effort of finding it all over again. Also, infinite tape has been fixed. In a nutshell: buried stashes despawns after 7 days of being undisturbed and/or wolves are drawn to stashes and can dig them up (an awesome suggestion by someone else on here). That way, you can still hoard, but only in tents, barrels or crates left above ground, that way there is the possibility of me stumbling upon them and being able to steal them and then you being able to defend your base shoeless and with a kitchen knife 😉

    Counter Duping with IP Bans

True, but would you rather have your stashes that you haven't dug up in over a week or the real possibility of finding high tier loot?

    Counter Duping with IP Bans

I like the idea of ip banning, since cheaters never change their spots... Or is it zebras never change their stripes... Anyway, cheaters gonna cheat, but how to find them is the main problem with pt 1 of your proposal, imo. Sure, if I happen upon a duper, or a suspected duper, I can come on here to the forums and post the details, but unless we get the whole community actively hunting dupers, the problem will never be resolved. Secondly, duping isn't as big a problem as many people seem to perceive, at least not as big as it used to be. As has been brought out in a recent post, the main problem is greedy players rushing the map after fresh wipes or updates, finding all/most of the rare weapons and burying them. So, my proposal would be reduce the lifespan of buried stashes; make it so that you have to dig up your stashes once a week (seven days) to stop it from despawning. That way, these idiots who want to hoard all the ars will either stop hoarding or spend all their time digging and burying giving us a better chance to hunt them down.

Is it just me or are the servers slowly going away after a server reset?

Maybe, but as of an hour ago, there were only 17 official servers working. None of these were my server 😔 Hopefully, BI will at least tell us what's going on soon.

    I wasn't KOS!!

It's really nerve wracking encountering other players, especially in mil zones. A week or so before 1.05 dropped, I was in the vmc security building and had a fully kitted guy just run in and stop in front of me. I had frozen, so he didn't realize I was there until he turned and saw me. I was triple carrying and loaded to the teeth, so I had my shotgun out and would have been a sight to behold. He had his gun out, too, so he must have been just as flustered as me because he turned tail and ran out before calling out to me. I had to fumble around to turn my mic on, by which time he had said that there were 4 guys outside and that I should be friendly if I knew what was good for me, haha. I eventually managed to call out that I was friendly. I asked if they needed anything like food or water, of which I had plenty. They asked for an LAR mag if I had one. I had 2 which I gave them and then got the hell out of there. It only takes one guy out of 4 to not like the way my character walks to send me back to the coast. Tldr : scared 1 guy of a party of 4. They were nice. We traded. I escaped with my life.

Sorry to hear that, man. Buckshot sandwich time, I guess...

Wow, Cholera is instant death now

... But isn't that part of reality? I play DayZ to live a realistic fantasy... Whatever floats your boat, though, I guess...

    Duping still a thing?

I play on an official server and today was the first time I found any of the new items, that being an mk II. Any tips on where to find .22 cal ammo?

Wow, Cholera is instant death now

Soylegend did a video just recently on managing cholera and the key seems to be "nibbling" and "sipping" ; if you take more than 4 gulps of food or water at a a time, it will come straight back up again. I somehow forgot to purify my water today and am in the midst of it right now. Nibbles and sips and I'm still alive after 8 hours of searching for tetracycline meds...

    Knife sheath noise lol

My question would be is it as loud to other players/infected as it is to us? So far, I've unsheathed to take down an infected from about 2 meters away and they haven't seemed to hear it...
  20. Thunderpants_AU

    Knife sheath noise lol

Yeah, I already reported this 5 minutes after the update dropped. Obviously some coding got muddled up, lol!
  21. Thunderpants_AU

    Night vision still bugged?

I thinks it's a little bit of a bug. You need to have both the flashlight and the nvg goggles mounted, both with batteries. If you only have one or the other usable, the "toggle lights" option does not appear.

    New update

    Excellent suggestion.
