    These are the default (vanilla) DayZ server settings. Time acceleration set to 1, so each hour on the server lasts an hour in real life ๐Ÿ˜‰ serverTimeAcceleration = 1; // Accelerated Time - The numerical value being a multiplier (0.1-64). Thus, in case it is set to 24, time would move 24 times faster than normal.     Not only that I disagree, but you are completely wrong on this and the day/night cycle just proves the point. Day/night cycle isn't three hours unless you set it so. I have been asking for 1x time lapse, that is full day and full night, on official server since at least the release of 1.0. That is how it was set before and that is how it should be set. Perhaps you should not be talking about playing on modded servers for easy mode, because you obviously do if that is the day/night cycle you know. Survival is not regularly fixing items and some items you should not worry about for the lifetime of your character. This is not difficulty. Difficulty and survival is dealing with elements, infected, other players, injuries etc. Not hunting for a new knife because I've cut one chicken and a bush. There is no exaggeration in that statement. Realism draws the line when you can cut a chicken to perfectly shaped breasts in 10 seconds, when you grow produce in 10 minutes and so on. That is where the gamification is needed and it is there. Artificial need to replace items is grind.

    Well that is exactly the point. Wipe once a year maybe twice is kinda ok for stability sake or whatever, but the proposed frequency plus the randomness of it is what makes it a bad proposal. Sounds to me more like clean slate for balancing passes = more random tinkering with loot economy, durability and so on ๐Ÿ™„

    With my luck I'm sure it will be the case that I'll die a few times and then get a really nice start with a char that I'll nurture and care about which will be wiped a week after ๐Ÿ˜„

    No, not in a survival game. That is how you get a battle royal on the coast out of it but that just us not what the game is supposed to be, judging by everything else. Characters that should survive for weeks or months which is not uncommon in DayZ need that realistic durability of items. And seriously, you want to tell me you like playing "Get new shoes every hour simulator"? Even in the game it makes zero sense for the items to be this crap. Also, I don't remember anyone complaining that items are too durable please reduce it ๐Ÿ™‚ this is just the devs regularly playing around with values that should have been decided years ago. Now it feels like there is no vision for the game, just chasing trends and trying what sticks and that is not a good sign at all.

    So far I don't mind the gameplay on official servers, it does not interfere with survival and roaming the country. Though the player base increase is changing things around, so I'll just see. And I totally agree that life in DayZ is uncertain, I just kind of prefer to either end it with on my own decision or by that chance. The wipe is ultimate and for example the last wipe with 1.11 also wiped a character I had on a private server where I was just traveling and exploring Livonia, still a new map to me, and there it no longer is the thrill of starting fresh again but rather an eye roll. If it would be selective and wipe only official server characters then perhaps ok. Regarding the hive, yes hopping is just stupid and for that alone I would rather have separate databases. However; I quite like that you can cross over from Chernarus to Livonia. It's one of those thigs that again extends the life of a character, introduces more variance and it's not that far fetched that you can travel regions of the world.

    I hear you, yet I still think that people who do that will do it regardless after a wipe over and over again. With persistence wipe only, people who already have full pockets cannot fill them more ... but it is quite a circle we're running here. Perhaps I will rather look into private survival servers if the wipes get disruptive for me.

    I understand the wipe of persistence, but in a game where the main focus is survival, wipe of characters kinda negates the point.

    Then perhaps I am confusing the render techniques , what I meant was simulation of pupil so when you go to a dark areas it gets a bit brighter after a while, then you can get blinded by a powerful light source etc. I saw that once in Half-Life and not really done in that way since. This game could benefit from that more than any other I know.

    While I agree that the lightning now is weird and definitely lacking, still most of the lower screens look like an over exposed image. For me this also ties to proper season implementation. While on the screens labeled 20/12, if that is indeed December 20th, the upper screen is more fitting for a country like Chernarus. Whereas in 28/6 screens the lower one makes more sense. Still, the shadows seem too weak for the lighting conditions that these are supposed to be. Makes it look overall very flat, in fact as if there was an overcast but someone increased the brightness. On the first pair of screens the lower one seems outright overblown as if this was taken somewhere way south in Africa, yet the shadows are mild and the sky is cloudy, so again it makes no sense that the whole picture would be that bright. For me these various reshades look more a like a fix for someone's bad monitor rather than the real issues of lighting in games. We are also of course also lacking any HDR to properly simulate eyes and sun glasses have no effect either.

    @rackinglad27 oh, I did not experience it so bad on PC, though as I say the performance was bad. I can only imagine that on PS4 HW everything is amplified. This game IMO should not be on this console gen as it can be really demanding.

    Happened to me I think twice yesterday as well while the servers were high pop - full and I also don't think that the reason should have been high ping. Though I guess momentary spikes cannot be avoided and the performance of Day Z servers is notoriously bad with this population. It was nowhere near as bad as early builds where you would get kicked out consistently after a few minutes. But thinking of that makes me wonder if the same bug could be the reason, although suppressed to minimum. For me the kick happened moments after spawning/logging in and then on re-log everything was fine. There was definitely strange infected behavior, all sorts of lags and stutters, all the usual suspects of performance issues, so ...

    Yep, in either case, these things actually have an explanation, though bugs certainly play a role. I guess a Welcome to Day Z for the OP is in order ๐Ÿ™‚ don't give up on the game, it does have layers and it is highly recommended you study these aspects in order to anticipate and react correctly. Sometimes things will go bonkers no matter what ... Welcome to Day Z ๐Ÿ™‚

    @bcandatree You know, this would not be so uncommon for DayZ unfortunately. Granted, it has been some time since I have experienced these complete screw ups like other players completely freezing or disappearing, but network/performance issues are pretty much still the main cause of all "supernatural" phenomena in the game. I don't have a good reference on how the performance is on consoles, speaking from PC experience only. You should not longer have issues with hit registration, and you did see the guy spewing blood. Not so long ago, I had a gunfight in a room, where I fired off two buckshots. I've hit either nothing or did minimum damage, it was a sawed off shotty but still .. a room, he did have a vest though and I had to finish the guy with a .308 to the chest. He in return hit me quite a few times and I did eventually bleed out because I did not manage to stop all bleeding, but he did not kill be by shooting me. I had no armor. Moral of the story is you don't know, the other guy might have died just as well though it was some time after you were already dead. If you got them bleeding, that is a very serious issue if not treated within some time. Unlike that son of a bitch, I respawned nearby and retook all my stuff, that my friend guarded for me while I got back and we lived happily ever after ๐Ÿ˜› Also, if you shot a person while they are still climbing a ladder, that body can land anywhere really. I did the same once, that person was climbing down, and the body landed weirdly on the platform in the middle. Though I guess worst case scenario it should have fallen to the ground.

    There's a point where realism gets in the way of fun.

    I use the printed map that is even better ๐Ÿ™‚ With regard to helicopters, yes it would be great if those were proper sim level like helicopters in DCS. That would also mean pretty much no repairs, but that would of course completely ruin one of the gameplay loops of DayZ. And 99% of players would be total cry babies about the fact that it is realistic and they cannot fly them. Same goes for base building. It is absolutely fine, a large group would build a base like that but not a single individual and not so fast. People IRL would also undestand that wooden wall is destructable ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Not gonna lie, the main appeal of DayZ for me is that it's set in mainland Europe and vaguely frozen in time. Technology is present but not hypermodern future warrior stuff. The fact that it is specifically based on eastern block countries is what sells it to me. It also induces paranoia on any walk in the country, but that's beside the point ๐Ÿ˜„ I can however; imagine the setting to be any of the following: - Near the west coast, based on countries like Netherlands - Nordic countries - Down south around the Mediterranean. Not as far as Greece but more like Italy, Slovenia, Croatia

    Yes, I have recently noticed this as well on vanilla official servers. At the time I encountered it the server had high pop and I was playing with a friend who would also basically slideshow around me. Playing the next day on the same server with low pop, the player movement was smooth but infected were still quite stuck.

    One as stated above, what features will the mod have? I'm not in favor of even the current DayZ modding that mostly focuses on gearing everyone up. Thus DayZSA maybe very much relevant despite A4's improvements. Secondly though, if the A4 DayZ mod exists and it's popular, people will be buying A4 and thus either way BI get a load of money with minimum effort on DayZ.

    I'm sure they will fix it for Arma, but not necessarily for DayZ. Arma is getting another iteration of the engine isn't it? DayZ still uses some kind of hybrid and not the full new engine.
