Cooking Pots should not be allowed to store water while in your backpack
William Sternritter replied to aaronlands's topic in Suggestions
Yeah, I fully get what you're saying. But again, as soon as you have at least one canteen and usually it is no big issue to have more than one, cooking pot no longer plays that much of a difference. It really is a "cheat" only early on. My current char also got "saved" by cooking pot, but I long since discarded it because I found bottles and canteen. Two canteens are normally more than enough to get you around and you can carry one on your belt. Chlorine tablets are the real enabler to stay off well and towns altogether. -

Random gun jam never happened to me if it was not in good condition. Which reminds me that varying condition of ammo needs to return. -
Cooking Pots should not be allowed to store water while in your backpack
William Sternritter replied to aaronlands's topic in Suggestions
Now this, has nothing to do with cooking pots. Back before 0.63, when that status was in text you would have status of full (I think) which is today's white and full indicator and then you could get one above, stuffed. As in real life, this means your hydration and hunger barely diminish for prolonged time. This is still the argument to add also green indicator above white to indicate this status. IRL you can tell, in game not so much. Normally when I get hydrated and fed, if I can, I drink ad eat practically until the stomach icon appears to ensure that I'm stuffed. For the same reason I always munch small food like mushrooms and fruits as I find them. It does help to keep you perpetually fed and hydrated. There is no need to wait for your indicators to drop. -

Well, there are more than enough topis here repeating the same bug (unable to insert magazine into gun), it is just that strange that you seem to have these issues so often. At least these days it does not seem to be so frequent as it used to. -
How do you handle other survivors?
William Sternritter replied to CottonHill2's topic in New Player Discussion
Heh, we thought of doing exactly that with a friend 🙂 Anyway, this brings me to the most puzzling point of my overall Day Z experience. Around the spawn points you can be most certain that other people will attack you without a word or anything. Proper KoS attitude. While everyone is wearing fresh spawn clothes and NOTHING ELSE. I get it that people shoot without asking in a military area, but overall meeting random player way inland, with various gear, has a higher probability of being a friendly encounter than on the frickin coast among fresh spawns. In Livonia I had one session where I've seen the most player corpses ever, they were literally meters apart from each other and no one had anything on them besides the starting gear. Spawn points is where I would expect everyone to be trying to survive and help each other. You have nothing to gain from killing other fresh survivor. At one time I openly laughed at other survivors who immediately started shooting and attracted infected on them. They saw me not even trying to come close to them, yet one of them still tried to shoot me. Only pity is, the infected did not swarm them enough and I could not be bothered to agro more infected on them. So in the end ... just decide on the spot. -

@rickyriot this is however something that matters greatly. Next time it happens try to check the status of your gun. The most common reason for gun failure is its state. Guns do get jammed and you need to press and hold reload to unjam it. At least speaking about guns which you already have and you fired them previously. I have also experienced the issue that I cannot attach a magazine to gun that I've just picked up. In fact being unable to use any item that I've just picked up, not just guns. Yet, instead of the version you play, I ask how is your internet connection or generally performance on the server you play on? -

Cooking Pots should not be allowed to store water while in your backpack
William Sternritter replied to aaronlands's topic in Suggestions
Now, I of course understand that, and it does make perfect sense to have it spill water when in inventory. Finetuning the interaction of other items while a pot occurred to me as well. I personally take pot only as a temporary measure of water storage. Dragging it around just for that is largely impractical, but let me also be blunt about the other topic. You would never ever have any issues finding bottles and canteens in the real world. This call to make also bottles and canteens rare makes absolutely no sense. I take it that purification supplies can be limited, but not the containers themselves. We could even have glass bottles that would weight more and would perhaps be more prone to breaking when taking damage, either from hits or falling etc. This is perhaps more important, because while there is abundance of bottles in the real world they can also be quite fragile, even the plastic ones. However; just dying of thirst every 30 minutes is just stupidly artificial. While we have what we have, the subject of carrying water in a pot effortlessly does not bother me that much, but it certainly can be overhauled in conjunction with other changes which will overall re-think the hydration mechanics. -
Cooking Pots should not be allowed to store water while in your backpack
William Sternritter replied to aaronlands's topic in Suggestions
If you know what you're doing it's not a problem to place cooking pot full of liquid to your backpack and carry it. Stashing it in your inventory and moving on is just the same "gamification" as not having to pluck a chicken for 30 minutes over boiling water, but instead using skin and quarter action which lasts for 10 seconds and gives you perfectly cut breats. Totally unrealistic, but I get why killing and cooking animals is extremely simplified. As for staying hydrated, you certainly are not as thirsty IRL as you are in the game. So, some actions are easier, some actions are harder and overal this is what makes the game. Storing water in cooking pot is not an issue. Because you could also say that you should not be able to store a cooking pot at all, except in a backpack, right? Same as many other item that you just would not be able to carry in your pants or hoodie. But again ... game. Beauty of Day Z lies elsewhere. -
Mouse and Keyboard support for consoles?
William Sternritter replied to _KUSH_'s topic in Troubleshooting
On PC you can use both and it's not an issue whatsoever. -
Especially since the initial run had really terrible performance. Yes, they did extend it specifically for performance testing but that did seem to end with affirmative resolution. Another round of testing would definitely be welcome, we can also expect them tuning some effect (duration, strength) etc., thus even having played Livonia I don't feel that is what I will get with the release. Because otherwise they could just release it, right? Plus there is still the question of what exactly will be present in Chernarus.

My few cents … I definitely like the little touches, especially blocking of inventory space for item that goes into the inventory and you're holding it in hands. FINALY! 🙂 Barricades in the cities and around certain buildings specifically are a really nice touch. They help to sell the atmosphere of feeble resistance until everything was eventually overrun Nice to see that winging clothes is back when they are wet As it was mentioned, since we have rain back, we should be also able to catch the rain water into bottles etc. for drinking/cooking Storms and rain, well done, but the clothing and camping equipment needs to be properly waterproof, like we used to have. I remember going out in raider jacket and getting soaked in seconds as if I was wearing fabric. Maybe even a new line of camping jackets and pant that will be waterproof, so that we don't have to chase after military gear. While on the subject, hanging clothes on rope/fence to let them dry in the sun would be nice. Cannot say much about the loot economy, for all my time on the serves, everything was mostly empty. Very basic items and too many survivors basically passing down the same gear over and over. I remember having a few runs where I got lucky and took a field vest from one infected. Laster died of course because of hunger and thirst. Had like two more chars and then got back to the same city and found a dead guy in a random house with the vest on. I'm pretty sure it was the same one 😄 While playing, it did not feel like waking up after the event but instead being in the last hours before everything is overrun and desperately trying to get out of the city anyway you can. In any case, I do not mind if there is more loot in the cities. I always considered cities to be the source of loot, but at the same time an area that you just don't go to unless you must. If you go to cities or dare to live in one, you should not be concerned with scarcity, but instead with who and what else lives there. And yes, performance issues. Infected got stuck even more than usual, they just stood in one place most of the time. Insane rubber banding. I'm not sure if the black inventory is tied to that but glitches like this did not happen for a long time. Hopefully these will be resolved before the stable release 🙂

Is it possible to replace music in the main menu?
William Sternritter replied to kirirus174's topic in General Discussion
Of course there is, just go to settings and set music slider to minimum. -
Here's a list of suggestions to tune Track IR performance/usage. Fellow survivors, feel free to add yours. 1. When looking through scope/binoculars/range finger the motion should be rather controlled by mouse. While I get the idea why it is controlled by head tracking it is very jerky and borderline unusable with high magnification. Also, it will be consistent with scope behavior when aiming with a gun. 2. While aiming through a scope, certain scopes, the likes of ACOG, PU scope where we see not just through the scope but also surrounding space, should allow to move the head. This was the case with pre-0.63 versions and it was actually very handful. I understand that now there is DOF effect applied to image outside the scope, however; this makes better use of head tracking and also I believe is more true to the real world. 3. General performance tuning. There are reports that TIR can be very sensitive and have constant head movement resulting in shaky image all the time. I personally experience regular freeze on the Y axis as if the game stops receiving TIR input for a few seconds. Another issue I experience is when aiming, as the gun comes up the view is often looking way up or some other direction, despite the player looking forward. This happens practically each time and takes a few TIR position resets to align the views. Same happens with scopes held in hands. Even after adjusting the view alignment will be off again after some time. 4. Allow head tilting. Again, something that was present in pre-0.63 version of the game and is a natural head movement when peeking behind corners and so on, as performed by Q&E keys by default. I would go as far as say that the game should support proper 6 DOF head movement and thus allow for leaning in or out in combination with head rotation. And for the fun of it, why also not have a little poll, because I'm genuinely interested 🙂

Which immediately brings the question, will these features be available on both maps when 1.06 releases? 🙂

Christmas gifts were a nice touch and these seasonal events should return. It's not an island btw 🙂

helicopter crash questions
William Sternritter replied to supernick's topic in New Player Discussion
Yes, on server where I play (PC thought), for a while this was the best way to get geared. Ironically enough, looking for player stashes and looting them is actually more rewarding and less dangerous than going into military bases and such. -
That is why I say repurpose the map. That means change not only the alphabet but a bit of the terrain maybe and so on. I understand that Livonia is otherwise a different country and being European myself, specifically from the former eastern block, I very well get even the subtle differences in these maps. And as interesting it is to see that the infection is not limited to Chernarus but instead maybe a continent wide or even a global phenomenon, I would still first like to see the Chernarus map completed first.

William Sternritter replied to SoundEnginar2's topic in Xbox
I guess the question is, can you get infected if using say damaged rags? For all my years of playing DayZ, I never had to care about that in particular. Generally speaking, infections do not seem to be present at the moment, the only exception is I think drinking from a well with bloody hands. -
When on the coast, I recommend taking a stroll on the beach. Little boats are a great source of soda cans. Not many, but you find one or two which will help you in those early moments. Then you still need to go through houses and orchards. Taking on infected is not as hard, if you take them one by one. They do get kind of staggered by your fists. Aim for the head 😉 Still, if you're not critically low on resources rather avoid locations that have many of them. Anyway, you will die a lot. This is not an easy game. Even finding decent loot early on is not victory. Study the map and learn to move around.

helicopter crash questions
William Sternritter replied to supernick's topic in New Player Discussion
Exactly. You're not having trouble finding them because they are hard to find, but because they shit which means by the time you get to the site where it is, it relocates to a site you've already visited but you won't get there for another 30 minutes and it will shift again before you return there. -

As said above, they rotate, so it is not uncommon that you go through the map and find none.
