@Coday, I'd like to break down the first encounter on the stairwell to clarify what I mean, because to me it stands out as the most obvious of how your good intentions basically cost you your life for no reason. My point of view is that your appeal is good, but your execution is flawed. Now, on surface you're right and we can simply write it all off as the other guy being a dick. I've met more than enough people who would not acknowledge in any way just start shooting, but ... 🙂 1. You're in a military area, as wrote above people are jumpy there 2. You tell me, but I have a suspicion that you knew the guy was there and you approached him deliberately 3. Not everyone talks, sorry but that is the state of things. You calling the guy out about it is just dumb. In a stress situation like this you act first, then care about stuff like coms and your remarks just may make the guy say to himself, screw you. 4. You see that the other guy does not communicate, does not put his gun away but you still press forward. This is why I doubt this as a KoS encounter. You had all the time in the world to walk away from there. It's not just about the other guy but also about you 5. And here's the big one, because the points above for me are little missteps that alone do not create a shooting scenario yet. Let's suppose the guy would be friendly and would not want to kill you. Do you realize where you're both standing? On a stairwell, basically a choke point. Which means in order for the other guy to move forward without hurting you, he must pass next to you in a confined space. You, a stranger that he does not know and has no reason to trust. I personally would never let that happen. You would have to leave the building and I would come out after you and then we can part our ways. Because I'm not taking the change that as soon as we're point blank, you will not pull a surprise shotgun, try to tie me up or some shit like that. So if you stand where you are or even more towards me ... yeah you're dead and it's not a KoS situation. Hope this gives you a slightly different perspective and you have better encounter in the future 🙂

If I'm right than the preface of your video perhaps does not answer the question. Also the question is aimed at your words here, not at the preface of the video. Preface of your video is by the way even more vague than your words here. I understand the appeal but you realize that ironically trying a different playstyle may be KoS, right? Military area is a military area, regardless of its location. Hold-ups are good if you have an advantage in numbers. Otherwise it's a quick draw stand off. If you do not understand why people defend themselves that's fine, just don't be surprised by it. But it does go back to the whole tension thing. You never know how the situation will go. You just assume from your position, this is the best way to handle it, but even if it works 10 times for you, situation 11 may go horribly wrong. Still dude, srsly, if you point a gun at someone's face, expect a bullet to the head.

It's ok mate, December hasn't happened yet. Unless you come from the future to tell us. Do you? Is Star Citizen out yet?

New map for DayZ is coming soon
William Sternritter replied to Greensek's topic in News & Announcements
It's already listed on Steam with release as End of 2019. No price listed. -
@Coday, honestly I'm in fact quite confused by your video. You show us clips where you have previous interaction with the players before the shooting starts. That alone hardly qualifies as KoS. People don't always talk and people who decide to shoot at you mid action are just assholes, but far from KoS. That is just good old backstabbing. Not to mention that your clips show a lot of military areas and people are jumpy in those in general. I myself, go into military areas with the mindset of shoot first and ask later. Moreover, there is specifically a clip of you aiming at another player demanding that they put their hands up. And you're confused why they shot at you. Really? If I was that other player I would shoot too and without hesitation. I've had quite a few interactions which started with weapons in hands on both sides but they all ended with talking, item exchange and even looting a town together and then parting separate ways. You know why? Because no one started the interaction with put your hands up. If you want to insert control into the situation that is understandable, but this is also an escalation. It is a very risky start, especially if you're alone, and you can't expect people to submit just because. Oh and it absolutely does not qualify as KoS on the other player's part. If you don't want to shoot, just don't shoot dude. I had a player give the bird once as we met in a doorway, it was very early on I had a gun in hand and apparently the other player though I'll shoot. I guess I could aim at him and whatnot, but my intention was to move on. So I did. No one spoke a single word.
-
Sorry what exactly are you looking for then? Because the tension comes from the fact that you have no idea what the other person will do. If everyone adopts no KoS approach then again, you have no tension just as if there was a rule or zone. You can't have both.

As you can notice, I don't say that the chance should be zero.
-
Use form 7x54. One or two should be enough.

What bothers me is the 100% infection when drinking from a found bottle. Granted, there could be all sorts of explanation why, but in general I don't think it makes sense. Bottled or tap water normally does not become infectious just because. Here I would say that the chance should be very very low.

Any interest in this inventory system by Joe Horan and Saulo Pintar?
William Sternritter replied to kevo1414's topic in Suggestions
I always though that items in ruined state should not function at all. In case of inventory holders this means no inventory. If an item is badly damaged, there should be severe penalty. I like the idea that your inventory would fall on the ground and inventory space is reduced. This would actually be a nice solution how to enable the reduced inventory since the item is quasi reset when this happens. Damaged items could randomly lose some inventory, maybe? Like bad blocks on a HDD, some inventory space in damaged backpacks would over time lose what's in them if the backpack or clothing is not fixed for maybe 30 minutes and longer. -
Pro tip, don't run to Tisy straight from the coast.

Shoulderstraps & quickslots - Inventory suggestions
William Sternritter replied to sokaku's topic in Suggestions
If they are ever going to implement proper gun straps, there should be the option to carry guns on your chest as you would, especially SMGs and ARs. Obviously, that would affect the speed of you gripping and letting go of your gun and also your stances, especially prone. -
Integrated Leaning/Support for Aiming?
William Sternritter replied to DoctorScandalous's topic in General Discussion
This would be great. Also, place your backpack on the ground and used it as improvised support when laying down. -
My guess is someone visited your base while you were offline.
-
Well, one observation here, your movement speed (overall, not sprinting) is already affected by how much you're carrying. Granted, it is not inertia but there already are other effects of weight on your movement. I agree that inertia would expand this further.

There should be a tutorial level for DayZ
William Sternritter replied to Brother Hao's topic in Suggestions
Now this of course makes sense. If you have no friend to help you out, and even if you do, beginnings are very hard. On the other hand, knowing what to do does not make you safe or ensure your survival. Day Z has a steep learning curve that you will have to experience for yourself in order to understand things in the game. Lot of the stuff you do is intuitive, because it tries to simulate reality. Thus I would still argue that the best tutorial is trial and error. You can always do reading on your own. Day Z wiki has tons of useful information which you can read in-between playing and at the same time in game experiment with your character. Big element still is navigating the map and no one will really teach you that, you have to do that on your own. This is again something that is both intuitive and can't really be tough because you need to familiarize yourself with the surrounding. There is no greater joy than recognizing some area because you've been there previously. Recently they added a help section and some queues during loading, which will explain the basics. However; to flash out a fully comprehensive tutorial is probably even impossible. They cannot hand hold you and take you to each place on the map, neither can they explain to you absolutely everything, show you everything you can craft and so on. Practically 99% of the game you have to discover for yourself regardless. The game was designed to encourage exploration and discovery and it does so very well. Enough tutorials and self-learning exists already to get you started, beyond that this game requires time and attention. That learning curve is what makes the game what it is. -
Are there plans to address the Tent Fortress Exploits? It's getting out of control.
William Sternritter replied to thepoey's topic in Xbox
It's more like asking the question why do you expect that lock to stop someone with tools from entering? Thus the question stands. Your view is fine with a regular game that encourages item collecting, like an RPG and so on. However; this is a game where player interaction is at its core, protecting your winnings means constant fight. Same as you can shoot another player and take their loot, someone else can shoot you or in case of stashed loot rob you. If you expect all the safety nets of a regular game where your winnings are either transferred to stats or loot that only you have access to, you're playing the wrong game. Same goes for bases harder to break into. Why do you expect simple wood to stop an axe? This game is aimed at as much simulation as possible and axe breaks wood, no extra effort required when there's no one there to deter you. Structures in general take much more effort to build than tear down. Castle ruins are quite a hint 😉 -
Point 1 is my experience with all this dynamic loot 😄 I agree though that currently there does not seem to be any use for stones. Even for building fireplaces it's just more convenient to either cook or assemble a fireplace without stones. Maybe for sharpening/repairing blades?

Are there plans to address the Tent Fortress Exploits? It's getting out of control.
William Sternritter replied to thepoey's topic in Xbox
Why do you feel that your loot, which you leave unattended deserves some special protection? You go into houses in towns and loot those because there is no one around, right? Well, it is the same with player collected loot. Just because items are no longer at their original spawn point, that does not make them special and all of a sudden exclusively accessible by you only. -
Can't wait for LivoniaPlus
William Sternritter replied to KajMak64Bit2's topic in General Discussion
Chernarus+ made probably more sense since the map got overhauled and basically became the platform, not just a map. Livonia is already established and at least in the experimental preview it got all the features that you would expect from a Day Z map. It is true that even Chernarus got updated wit the post 0.63 releases here and there, but it is no longer treated as a different version of Chernarus. So my expectation is that Livonia stays Livonia even if features are added. -
How to make gunplay feel good very nice and fun :)
William Sternritter replied to Brother Hao's topic in Suggestions
Miscellaneous sounds to weapons from your description reminds me of the so call movie gun sounds. Guns don't make random noises just because they are carried in hands. -
Smaller Shovel/Trowel?
William Sternritter replied to DoctorScandalous's topic in General Discussion
Why not all? 🙂 You could saw off regular shovel, this is not uncommon in civilian life. Or have a small gardening shovel and a top tier jack of all trades military version that can act as a cutting and sawing tool as well. One of the aspects I love about this game is that you're all good with civilian loot but it also does make sense to look for military stuff, if you feel like it. -
Smaller Shovel/Trowel?
William Sternritter replied to DoctorScandalous's topic in General Discussion
At least the possibility to saw off the handle and thus voila, short shovel. Though I think a compact military shovel was teased ages ago ... -
