Hackers, and the state of the standalone game?
vasudan replied to KetchupOnTheDog's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I envy the people who can honestly say "I've never seen a hacker" or "I've only been hacked once" For myself and most of my guild it's a daily occurence. Some people are just lucky. Vas. -
SO many haxers I literally can't be bothered to play again till something is done about it. I'll explain

Hacking makes DayZ impossible to play 'seriously'
vasudan replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I envy you, I really do. Myself and clan mates have been hacked every night for the last week. I had my first taste an input hack last night. Could not do anything... move, shoot... alt+f4. By the time we knew what was happening and the vent cries to disconnect went out... too late. Godmode, thermal scoped snipers, teleports, nukes... we've had it done. Vas. -

I feel your pain. Godmode AS50 Thermals and teleports seem to be the hacks of the week. Arma's mod friendly nature is it's downfall, it was never meant for a game like this, we're all hoping the standalone can solve it. Vas. -
I too am losing the will to login and bother trying to find nice things when most nights end in a teleport or godmode AS50 + Thermal wielding asshole. I love this game too, I'm very tolerant of bugs and will keep coming back no matter how many trees kill me but being hacked daily is just ruining the fun in any survival efforts, it's depressing. I really hope the standalone can/will do something about this. Vas.

Q. Can the hacking porblem be solved? Can we look forward to less bombs falling from the sky and teleports in the standalone version? Vas. -
Hacking is getting out of control
vasudan replied to Razzle Dazzle's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
It's got to a point where I don't fear Zombies or bandits, just hackers. Nothing ruins a great night more than it ending with a teleport execution, bombs falling from the sky or some invincible guy in a ghillie suit taking out your whole squad and everyone else on the server. One of my guild mates made a comment last night that was kinda depressing. After a hacking incident (that would be the above ghillie guy) someone asked where he was. He said he wasn't in game, he was too scared to login just be be hacked. I don't mind dying legit firefights, snipers or epic zombie disasters... but losing everything to a hacker makes each restart more bitter, in fact I can't remember the last time I died that wasn't suspicious. This wasn't so much of a problem for the likes of CS, BF or CoD... you change servers, respawn and lose nothing but time. In a game where death = everything gone it's a disaster. Lets hope the standalone came can do something about it Vas. -
Ideally, Game purchase only. Studio/community developed not a big issue provided your calling the shots, don't let your 'Hero's Journey' turn into a 'Doodle Centipede' Current server system works fine just needs more control, forced updates etc. Vas.

Let me put it this way. Your friend is standing at 600m with an apple on his head. You zero your CZ to 600 and aim for the apple, your friend is now covered in apple but alive and well. Now, same shot, you zero your rifle to 500... your friend is now dead but you can still eat the apple. I know you already knew that but I thought it was too god an explanation to pass up. Vas.

It would appear Arma beta 95170 is not backwards compatable with any other beta version, you can only join 95170 servers. Doing otherwise results in this error. vas.

1.7.2 Opinion thread. All your opinions, good and bad, go here.
vasudan replied to Denuth's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've no problem crouch walking around zombies like I've always done, I don't find the 1.7.2 zombies anymore alert than the 1.7.1.5. Being in front of them will always cause issues... even then you can still get quite close. As long as you stay to the side and behind it's fine. Having said that, 1.7.2 introduced some superzombies and I generally find a couple in everytown. They spot you from anywhere. I've come out of buildings and seen them spaz out and run from the side of town, I've skirted towns quite some distance and suddently heard one running up behind me that has flipped out from some 200m away. I believe they are unintended and should be fixed in the next patch. If your getting around okay and but always seem to pull a random, you might just be getting unlucky with these guys, it's not your fault. You don't have to prone everywhere, that's unessesary. The 'normal' Z's seem okay to me. Vas. -
I too had a interesting night. 1. After playing for a good hour and heading to meet up with some friends I logged out to change to there server and when I rejoined... saw my death message and spawned in debug, first time there, no gear and red food/water. Respawned. 2. Played for another hour or so, looged to have dinner and when I rejoined... gender selection... crap. 3. Played for another good hour and a half, logged out to join the guild majority on another server and when I re-joined I was in the previous life (no.2) in a town where I'd been some 2 hrs ago. I looted said town, headed for the nearest treeline and logged for the night rather confused. I logged in for a check before work this morning... just to see who and where I was. I was on the most recent life, no.3, prior to the no.2 rollback. So, it woudl seem that if you ever 'roll back' don't bother, log and try again later, as above, it's slow to update and evetually does catch up. Playing on a 'roll back' seems a waste fo time. That's alpha for ya, we bitch a bit, accept it and come back for more =) Vas.

Have recently been experimenting with sniper rifles and working out ranges. At 31, you guys make me feel old, lol. Had some fun with mate in town and me covering with a scope, that would be a lot of fun with more people. Steam ID should be the same as the forum name. Vas. -

To my first kill, the poor bastard on a hospital roof standing bolt upright with his back turned. I don't think he was armed... I honestly didn't think I had any hope of making that shot. The CZ was new, unfired and apparently I estimated the distance and had the zeroing more accurate than I gave myself credit for... right in the back of the head from 600m. I laughed, cheered... then felt kinda bad. First ones always the hardest right? I'm sure there will be more. There was almost a second, bleeding to death she was. I thought I'd save the bullets and let blood loss do the rest... I felt REALLY guilty about that one, but I didn't have much ammo. Suddenly they dissapeared! What! Damn they disconnected! Didn't feel bad at all after that. Vas. -

No gun at respawn? Impossible for beginners
vasudan replied to kenny4587's topic in New Player Discussion
No offence, but it's a survival horror game, not a full feldged shooter, there are plenty of other games to fill that market. Your priorities are now as they should be, food and water, survival. Your now forced to sneak around looking for the basics rather than spawn, run for the nearest loot point, find a gun and look for something to shoot. Zombies are now something to fear rather than a minor annoyance, nothing like being unable to defend yourself to add atmosphere. There are planty of other FPS games out there if I feel the need to shoot things... I'm not playing Dayz to just find guns and shoot things. Vas. -
I think the Z's alertness is just about right. I've found crouch walking just as quiet and effective as it's always been but running, even crouch running dangerous anywhere near a town... roads are now a real hazard. It's like the first night I played, before I learned the Z's and grew to take them a a minor annoyance. I fear them again... I'm forced to take them seriously again, that's defeinetly a good thing. They do hit bloody hard though, break bones in one swing and occasionly still bug out behind and through walls... but overall I think there close to the sweet spot. Slow and patient sneaking is still the way to go. Bugs as follows: *Hearing flies frequently but never found a body, even when I swear I must be standing on it *Dropping all my ammo when picking up watches, compasses etc *Way too many zombies in barns, all staring at the walls and more spawning while I'm in there, don't feel it's worth even investigating barns anymore... seem to only find cans and zombies. Now, this one I'm not sure about, might have been something weird my friend did. He died on a 1.7 server and exited the game, I talked him through the 1.7.1.5 update (thank you Six Updater!) and he joined the same server as me. I had recently spawned with the new compliment of painkillers , bandage and torch. He spawned with the old gear, makarov, mags, food etc... also didn't get the gender selection. Obviously he wasn't eager to respawn and test it again, bastard. Vas.

Morphine being rare would not be so much of a problem without the apparent outbreak of osteoporosis, bones seem to break far to easily. Vas.

I too do not understand need to start with a gun. I came into this game a couple weeks ago with the understanding that "gunshots attract a lot of attention" I spent my first 2 nights creeping around towns, dodging zombies and never fired a shot, I didn't want to, it was a last resort I didn't want to have to use. I think this change is great. Under the old system I could come off the beach and head straight for the nearest source of good loot I could find, usually better weapons, just in case, to make me feel better. With your starting supplies you could ignore the basics and head straight for the good stuff. Priorities are different now, your first need is food and water as it should be, screw a weapon, I'm going to die if I don't eat and drink. Your not forced to play on the high pop servers. It might be considered a cheap tactic but if you getting shot at your spawn again and again no one is going to blame you for joining a low pop server simply to get a few cans of beans and away from the coast. At least I won't. No offence to anyone but if you can't sneak into a town to scavenge a few cans of food and drink without shooting half a dozen zombies, your doing something wrong. Yes, the zombies in the new patch are more alert and your old safe distances and angles are going to need a re-think, don't take risks, if you planned route simply isn't safe routes take the long way around. Look, I like this game because I don't have to shoot everything. If run and gun is your style... maybe Dayz is not your game, there are enough FPS's out there to fill that role. Those little towns near you spawn are now far more important than the lure of Cherno/Eleck or that barn you always get your winchester from. Priorities. Dayz is Survival Horror, I've not played a game that nails the atmosphere like this one does in years, enjoy it for what is is, you don't need a gun... yet. Vas.
