  1. And then with ammunition being rare, those that have it will use single-hitting instakill weapons like the Lee Enfield, CZ550, and many others. They will kill everyone they see, not for fun, not for food, but for ammo. Instead of killing people because they have too much ammo, they will kill people FOR their ammo. And melee wouldn't work well in this game. From the glitchy zombies to the buggy melee and everything in between, the engine can't even work well with melee as it isn't designed for it. So... What are you trying to accomplish?

    Claymores

    Could do something like, make it as rare as NVGs, make so zombies can set it off, and let players disable it without the need of tools. And now the kicker, 1 claymore per player. And they disappear after reset (make it like vehicles, so they reset unless you save them, and don't give the option to save them). So on server restart, the claymores go away. So due to the rarity, they aren't that great (lets even make them take two inventory slots instead of one) and can net you either 1 player kill or 1 zombie kill. No real griefing unless you have a clan or large group set them all up, and then they are wasted the next time the server is restarted unless you go back to retrieve them.

    Disconnecting in a fight, against zombie or player, is an exploit. I can't wait to see how the devs are planning to emplace a punishment against people that do this :P

    What is with Direct Chat?

    They aren't using directional chat when they try to talk to you. Many people coming into the game are auto-set to Group Chat, and so they type in that like the newbies they are. Some figure out how to use side chat, but now that this is gone on most servers, many don't learn, and they freak out when the person doesn't see what they are typing, or hear them when they respond. So instead of trying to communicate they tend to shoot you, run away or stare at you, trying to communicate in the wrong channel. I've seen a few video reviews where they did this, trying to speak to people using group chat instead of direct. Perfectly normal if you are new. Pretty sad to watch. Really funny to watch some of those videos, too.

    1. As stated, suggested before. 2. Big cities are more dangerous due to both comfined spaces and more aggressive players. What cities have you been in? 3. Forcing players to learn 225km squared maps is a major tax. Also, this has been suggested. But I like spawning with the knowledge of where I am, where I can go and what I will do. 4. Suggested before, and I have agreed to some of these from one extent to another in the past. 5. Crash Helicopters, ingame already. A treasure chest with a different skin if you want to look at it that way. Who uses treasure chests anymore? 6. I want roaming hordes as well. In the forest, possible hunting players or vehicles. I'd even like to see crazier zombies that actively stalk players. Answered. Next time, use the search function and support the ideas you like instead of creating threads on it, even if it is one.

    Replace the M240? NO!! Just add the PKM! Infact, add as many guns as you can! More guns, more fun.

    The part I bold and underlined is something I really hope is sarcasm. Do you know how many times I've killed in self defense? More than a dozen. Once I watched a group of 5 kill anyone they came across. In defense of them, I fired at these people from over 600 meters with an M16A2. I killed 3, wounded 1 and the other disconnected as the firing started. One of those that died logged out and returned, only to fall over and die, so I didn't get the kill. The one I wounded disconnected after he got to cover. In your idea, I should be punished as well as them, for defending myself and others in the future I have harmed my karma? Wait, no. My Karma would improve, right? But this game can't determine self defense from murder unless the one killed is obvious a bandit. In the mod's current state, and how people react to others in a virtual environment, this idea will not work. Oh, and in my current life, I am still lacking a compass. I will kill people on sight just for a potential compass. Imagine people without hatchets that want one. They will kill everyone on sight for the hope they spawned with one. What you doubt, and what will happen are two totally different things. Learn how people act in video games, it is actually VERY predictable. Look at this mod's past, and the murder rate. Look at what you are asking for now. Your idea does NOT solve anything.

    Night = More loot

    NVGs are already extremely rare. In my time, I have only seen one pair, and that was on a clanmember I killed. I hid his body without looting it so his buddies couldn't reclaim it. I died a few seconds later to his comrades. None of my friends have had NVGs. I have never owned a pair. A pack of people I used to run with, a group I wouldn't call a clan, had FN Fals with nightvision scopes, but only a few and those were taken by a clan they had been in numberous fights with. (They lost after I left the group) NVGs are already very rare, and outside of clans that have the time to sit at the NWAF or go heli hunting ALL DAY EVERY DAY, or people that cloned their NVGs using duplication glitches, there are almost none. There really isn't any reason to make them more rare outside of stopping the whining. But those whiners would find something else anyhow, so that still wouldn't fix anything. Most people dying at night aren't dying to snipers with NVGs but players with their brightness and gamma turned up, or desync'd to a different time of day (7pm instead of 8pm for example) or those players using flashlights and roadflares and lighting themselves up.
  9. Due to the way I think the game works, forcing the character to remain on server after logging out couldn't be that hard. But it comes with a ton (literally, thousands) of potential problems for a game that doesn't have it built in. Maybe making them stay on server for 10 seconds, but 10 minutes could be a major problem. The easiest one to think of is what happens if you log out of one server and try to log into another? What if you fire and the server goes down a minute later? Both are problems. 5-10 seconds is long enough for zombies to really mess a player up, or give an opposing player enough time to aim for a headshot, and correct a miss or 2 (or dozen, based on player skill and weapon). I believe the DayZ Dev Rocket wanted a 5 second timer, but something caused him to remove it. I want it back, but his removal had it own reasons, and I can almost promise they weren't carebear reasons.
  10. Smoking wouldn't calm you down, just decrease the withdrawal symptoms caused by being addicted to smoking. A catch 22 if you think about it. No, smoking would cover you in weakness with NO strengths. Easy to see you (smoke, light as night, etc) easier to kill you in combat (you'd start showing withdrawal symptoms under stress more often) and easier to get yourself killed (lack of cigs around the map, its the end of the world, smokers smoked them all and no one has been growing, drying or rolling them). So no. That I'm not a smoker doesn't really matter. Any real survivor that isn't a smoker wouldn't start now unless they were total idiots (note the weakness above) or thought since they were about to die that it wouldn't matter (say they are under siege by zombies while trapped in a building). Outside of social activity and being a symptom reliever of like 1 reallife disease, there is no reason to smoke. That, and if they add smoking I'd want a smell meter. In real life I can smell a smoker a room away, and further if they lit up recently. You can't hide.

    Although I agree that playing with chemlights, roadflares and flashlights (gun equipped or otherwise) is 'Funner' for me, I don't think NVGs should be removed. They should probably wipe them from the game in one patch but let them keep dropping, forcing the dupers, and clans that have everything stashed away to come out and play for once. But then again, I wouldn't mind a complete wipe either, as it is an Alpha. Anyhow, I don't think Night time should cause better loot to drop. I play at night most of the time (and I don't have NVGs, I just like darkness). People might assume many things about me from that statement, but just know this: I hunt snipers camping on airfields. Anyhow. You can't really force people to play at night, or push them into in. In reality, most people would only be active in the day (though I'd still choose the night) so it stays fairly real. I do not support this.
  12. Minecraft has swords and bows. Limited range weapons with a better chance to survive an encounter with hostiles by running away. DayZ has many guns that instantly kill people, and those that don't usually cause their death soon after by bleeding to death. Melee doesn't work with this engine all that well, and trying to make the game more family friendly (like Minecraft) wouldn't be what the devs are after. So no. To each their own, but Minecraft's version is going down it's own path, as similar as they might be, but a different path none-the-less.

    What happens to those people that kill for self defense? What happens when bandits want a hatchet? Why loot a town and take the chance of dying to a sniper or another bandit when they can camp the coast and rack up kills at the same time? Also, what happens when angry people start respawning with 100% karma and decide to finally go bandit and start killing people? We have the same problem as before until they kill a few people and die. And people won't give up camping the coast. They haven't given up when there are no weapons now, why would they give up when they could get MORE loot? They could get MORE kills? They wouldn't. You'd just make people without want to camp the coast MORE, because they want that stuff NOW and not later. They don't want to crawl through Cherno for a hatchet when they could run up and down the coast and kill people respawning with them. And then what happens when they defend themselves? Now they might lose the chance to spawn with a weapon. Seriously, spawning with a weapon wouldn't change much, but it would increase murders, which was the second reason to taking AWAY the ability to spawn with a weapon. (First being it made the game more survival based when you start with nothing). So no. This won't stop, slow or decrease murders, just increase them. You punish only those trying to defend themselves, as the bandits would reserve themselves with not spawning with a weapon, but finding one and camping those that do. What I'm saying is this fix fixes nothing.

    I haven't noticed a change, but most of my recent playing has been at night. Try changing servers. A lot. And recheck your settings.
  15. One, you can't figure out the knife after how long? Two, if you want a 'softcore' game (which to me is NOT an improvement for a hardcore game) there is Dead Rising 1+2, Left4Dead 1+2, Dead Island, Dead Frontier and many others, depending on what you like. Three, no one will miss you. This game has the population of MMORPGs, with more servers (though that is based on limited populations per server more than much else) and more players than most AAA MMOs. You are 1 amongst an uncountable many, and the only thing you will see is people laughing at your inabilities to use a knife to gut animals for meat. Oh, this game isn't for everyone. Don't make posts claiming to be leaving, most people don't care. Thanks for helping to test the alpha.

    Ego-centric mindless people with no care for anyone else, and the envy of any other NOT viewing them as a God will become angry when those people get together to have fun. These are the people that want thing banned, not for being a danger to others, but cause they can't have it themselves. They break rules claiming to be unique, or make rules and break them when others beat them at their own game. They are the people who have never had an original thought, but steal ideas and claim them as their own. They are the lonely miserable people of the world, and they can't stand it when others have fun without them being the cause of it. The REAL hackers figure out how to get around the defenses, either to test their abilities, or to have fun. Like spawning a C-130 and flying over towns messing with people. They don't care to ruin people's experiences, they do what they do to test themselves or have fun messing around with the rules. The kids that use their parents credit cards, or those that have more money than sense, buy scripts and nuke servers to seek revenge against people for nothing giving them the attention they demand. They believe they are entitled. The only way to fix them is to ignore them. They'll disappear after a time, seeking out others for the attention they crave. In other words, the "Hackers" people see as they problem are really childish immature morons seeking attention for their actions. "Hey look at me, I can kill everyone on a server using a script I bought!!1" These people play games with Godmode enabled on the easiest setting because they are terrified of being preceived as weak.

    Your ideas are similar to ideas MANY people have had in the past, all have been shot down. The most that might ever happen is more skins for players and maybe a wider selection of skins for spawning using Player Profiles edit system, but that probably won't happen while the game is in the Alpha stage using Arma2's engine. No support.

    It isn't hard to find a weapon, and people would kill each other MORE often, not less. Your suggestion takes a step back and does nothing to resolve prior issues due to spawning with weapons and fouls up the reason for not spawning with weapons, while finding a broken middle ground. Sorry, but I can't support this.

    LOLZ, I would love to see players spawn with a 1-use ranged stungun. They can knock 1 player or zombie unconscious for 15 seconds, give or take and they'd have to find another battery for each reload (think crossbow-style ammunition reload, one time use per mag). Teargas +1 (needs gasmask in binoc/rangefinder slot, reduces sides of vision, probably a passing out animation frozen, so the sides of the screen are blacked out or something) Stungun +1 Firetrucks? No. Maybe police cars with sirens, faster speed but decreased mileage. I support rubber bullets as well, and I'd like to see them impliment the ability to knock out players with your gun. (Rifle Butt+head= unconscious timer)

    Sounds like a minecraft thing. But I'd like to have a german shepard with me when I travel alone. Might be kind of cool. But it wouldn't really fit too well in this game, going mostly off the AI system of Arma... Which is to say... Lacking.

    So those killing people would kill people more often, and when they die, they'd grab a gun and kill MORE people to get more guns. Going to the point that a clan coming into the game would camp the coast for guns as their members were unable to spawn with guns due to killing so many people. In other words, you just caused MORE killing, not less. Spawning with a gun was the reason spawning with a gun was taken out. Look it up.

Moving spawns, which could be buggy. I wouldn't like to spawn on a server and be thrown 100 meters away into a tree or a wall or in a floor or unenterable building. 2. The warning gives away the position of players or their camps. I could easily triangulate their location based on the max size of the jammer and just logging in and out about 3 times. 3. What happens if someone blocks off entire cities with barbed wire and traps, then plants these down? The city would only need a small crew to protect it and replace barbed wire as it is removed. Entire towns taken over by clans, where they can set up these in order to make players spawn in open plains or at the bottom of hills, giving them prime targets for the killing. I like the idea behind the idea, such as working generators and radio towers, just don't like the spawn-jamming aspect of it. +1 for everything BUT spawn-jamming. I hate server hopping and ghosting as much as the next guy, even lost friends to these people, but this has too many problems that could come from this.
