Firearms Should Not Be The Main Instrumentality Of DayZ
Zeromentor replied to hoak's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
To further my point and try to clear things up, I mean the players will want to kill other players more often for the chance at a gun with ammunition, but due to lack of ranged weapons might instead use melee weapons to do the killing. Plus, some people would rather let the other players go, and never interact with them. But those same players let those leave because they have nothing they want. What if the watching player KNOWS they need something from a town, but does not have the ammunition to fend off a group of zombies, but DOES have enough rounds to kill another player for the AK74 Kobra he is packing, which MIGHT have enough ammo in it. I didn't contradict myself, you just didn't get the point I'm trying to make. Less ammo is fine, to a point. Too little means people will start to kill each other MORE often for ammo, which is rare. Go look at what happened when food became rare due to a bugged drop. Or morphine. What happened? Mass killings. People have shown time and time again they will resort to KILLING, and not working together when under pressure. They work together when they feel safe, and lack of resources makes them stressed out, which brings the need to fulfill that need, which means they will actively hunt and kill players for filling that need. IE: More killing, even with less ammunition. Don't get me wrong, as I've said many times, less to a certain amount is fine (Say 50% less) but too much causes players that once ignored others and went their own way to start actively going to heavy player areas (cities) and in turn they spend more time killing players out of self-defense, or for hunting for the rare supply of whatever (See: Food, in past patches). That, and the close confines of those spaces make sure people are more likely to kill each other quickly, with less ammo wasted (or none at all, with melee weapons). Those in the woods would have to turn back to players or the cities when their meat-harvesting is blocked by lack of ammo, or an axe that has finally been used too much. So yeah, you start to force players into one another, which causes them to KILL each other for a limited resource, not work together. Some might, most won't. -
Choosing a 'Skill' when respawning
Zeromentor replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This, also, classes are not entering this game. This includes but is not limited to: Perks, Class Skins, Selective Spawn Weapons, or Attribute points to spend (includes leveling up). Sorry OP. Time to move on and find something else. Have you seen the Halloween post yet? -
Unique character per server (Ghosting/Server hopping fix)
Zeromentor replied to FaxMonkey's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
MMOs do this because you play in fairly MASSIVE worlds with usually thousands of players. Not a small zone when compared to MMOs, or a population of 25-70. I love being able to play on any server I want to. Not for server hopping, but due to the fact that servers die, change, get moved, turn into other arma mod servers or completely crash, never to come back. Some don't install the newest updates and others haven't been restarted in ages. Even worse, what happens when a hacker hits your server? Server hopping is a problem and the devs are currently trying many different ways to fix this, you can even find some of these using the SEARCH bar at the top of the forums. Until then, either sit outside the barracks at the NWAF, or hang around a tree just outside of the Balota Airfield's ATC's back door. You'll get multiple kills and perhaps even rare loot. Fun times for when you want to shoot fish in a barrel, but the fresh spawns at Cherno and Electro aren't doing it for you. Plus you help the community. -
This a million times. So many people think that knives are the wonder weapons that humans overlooked in history for whatever reason, when in reality they are not 'easy' to use. Killing a person with a blade is risky business and very hard without proper training. Killing a zombie would be much, much harder, as they seem to ignore our normal human limits. So yeah... I'd rather not start with a weapon. Sure, when I die, it's in packs of 10-15 times before I get lucky and find a great loot spawn pile in a store, or find a dead survivor with everything I need, and those deaths are from either swarms of the infected before I get a weapon, or from a player soon after I do. But the feeling of having NOTHING for defense at the start is something you won't get many other places. And I was against spawning without weapons in the beginning.

Generally to avoid what happens in open betas and the released games, people posting about what they don't like. Would you like someone sitting over your shoulder as you work, telling you that everything you do SUCKS and is TERRIBLE, and that they could do a better job with NO experience? Well, that's what they have to deal with, and many times they'd rather make the foundation of the game (Alpha) before allowing people to test it (Beta) and then releasing it. But look at newer games, many of which seem more like Betas on release than actually finished products, and I don't mean MMORPGs. (Examples can be easily seen from EA. Seriously.)

Special Events ? - ie Halloween etc
Zeromentor replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'd be happy with zombies wearing pumpkins on their heads. And maybe replacing vehicles with giant spiders with tank turrets for the lolz. FOR THE LOLZ. -
You mean flash suppressors, correct? Silenced rounds don't work too well in weapons they aren't built for, but for some odd reason you can still do it in this game to a limited extent. I support the ability to change attachments around, but either due to lack of time from the DayZ Devs, lack of engine support or for balance reasons, this might not happen. EDIT: Also, I believe this might have been asked for before in another post. Try the search function at the top of your forum screen.

Due to 98+ percent of players playing as male skins, I don't think I want to support this ever. Ever. EVER. Now, if you want sex in a video game, I think IMVU is still up and running. Or maybe not, I don't know. There is also porn on the internet, was well as social interactions that will allow for first-person hands-on experiences and the most pleasure possible. But with a thread like this, I suspect you'd have to shell out some money for said interaction.

Firearms Should Not Be The Main Instrumentality Of DayZ
Zeromentor replied to hoak's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
W00T! -
This. I have lost hours of time spent ingame due to admins restarting when they shouldn't have, or giving us less time than they said, "10 minutes until restart" turns into about 30 seconds. I didn't even have time to finish cooking 8 steaks and putting out my fire when BOOM, 2 hours lost. So yeah, when you see the warning go ahead and bunker down before you hit Abort and have it save. If you don't, you risk losing so much. (I have heard that if you don't log in to another server, and relog into the original when it comes back up, your data is still saved. But going to a different server reverts your save to an older one)

Firearms Should Not Be The Main Instrumentality Of DayZ
Zeromentor replied to hoak's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I have returned with quotes in hand, or on internet posts as the case may be, fighting to be the most annoying poster on this thread. Anyhow, yes OP you did say that. Whether or not you meant it, just like Obama 'fixing' the USA's Economy, you said it just the same. And I'll say this once: Sure maybe that other random player isn't carrying ammunition for my particular gun. But if I only have 3 rounds left in my M4A1 then it is nearly worthless compared to that random stranger's AKM with a potentially full magazine. Changing the ammunition amount by such a large amount causes more killing, not less. People with melee weapons would bum-rush those with rifles more often at a chance to get their gun, empty or not, and that would cause yet MORE deaths. People would rather kill in games than not, and whether or not you are in the majority of that group means nothing when you are still a valid target. And let's do the math. I have 8 magazines with 20 rounds each in my DMR at this moment. I picked up 1 magazine with the rifle, and found another along the way, and stole the last 6 from a random person that left 2 ATV's on Seattle 144 (I HAVE YOUR ATVS, give me a truck if you want them to live!!!) I have fired 10 shots total, with 2 kills and 3 wounded confirmed (those wounded disconnected) as well as 2 zombie kills, one of whom happened to block a round intended for another player. I have 160 rounds total. Limited to 90% less ammunition still gives me another 6 rounds to kill potential loot-bags in and around my view range. Due to my shortage of ammunition, I and many others would be MORE likely to kill players for their weapons as they could have ammunition I am lacking, or a full gun ready for renewed PvP. But hey, it's not like you said you want less ammunition to promote cooperation. Oh wait... Oh, and it would be "More willing to use firearms on each other, but less able". They would say they are going to trade, then land an axe in your skull at their earliest convience. Have fun, humanity isn't the nice, mild-mannered group of hippies you think they are. -
The devs ignore non-constuctive feedback and any suggestions they dislike. Infact, if they want it they go for it, and if they don't, all our whining and moaning is just that and will gain us nothing in the end. Like trying to tell a painter how to paint without paying them. They only care about what could help them do better, and anything else is hot air. Also, closed testing is worse than open testing. You have less people and less combinations of equipment (software AND hardware) to test with. Also, you can't know if the database will crash if just 1 more player is added unless you push it to the limits, as well as everything else. So closed testing is a bad idea. Infact, closed testing is always a bad idea. At the very least, any number of random people could find a bug, but it is that one person that tells EVERYONE and their grandma how to do it that forces them to fix it right away and not leave it for later (potentially causing more problems down the road).

Brilliant idea for th Alt + F4'ing
Zeromentor replied to SollemNRomanHD's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
How about this. If you've taken damage within the last 20 seconds, disconnecting causes 12000 damage to the disconnecting player. I recently lost 3 kills to players disconnecting after they gunned down my unarmed teammate. When I tried to seek revenge they all disconnected, 2 bleeding badly from DMR rounds to the chest, and 1 taking no damage as he DC'd right away. So they claimed a kill, and got away free. The chance of players disconnecting by accident is pretty low, and there could be a warning on the screen, such as "You have taken damage recently, you will DIE if you abort now" -
Firearms Should Not Be The Main Instrumentality Of DayZ
Zeromentor replied to hoak's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
@Hoak My God you should be a politican. You say something you don't mean, because your very first sentence expressed more than you'd like, but any ability to build on it is ignored by you yourself. You say things, then conflict them and then fight yourself and say you said something you didn't mean, when you defended it, and then go on to say it was out of context, when I quoted the entire paragraph, not just one sentence, which is part of a larger post that anyone can see and look at right now. So, yeah. Politican. Your new career. Oh, and you aren't being clever. There is no debate here. Read your own post, edit is as you see fit and try again. I LIKE TRAINS! -
Medic Zeds, .22LR carabine, UMP, beanbag ammos
Zeromentor replied to euryale's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
UMP is supported by me. The .45 is already ingame, and we can just recombine packs of them (like 4?) into a UMP .45 magazine, or make it a stand alone magazine. .45 UMP would have pretty nasty kick, worse than the MP5. But more damage as well. And I like a wider selection of weapons. Medic Zombies? Maybe. But their drops should be very limited. Ambulance? No. Crashed like helios, sure, but drivable? No. I like the idea of attachments, but I don't know if the DayZ part of the engine allows it, or if it is like this due to lack of time working on it, or balance reasons. And add more loot locations? No. Scatter out existing ones, sure, but none need to be added. -
Firearms Should Not Be The Main Instrumentality Of DayZ
Zeromentor replied to hoak's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Oh my bad, I seem to have gotten you mixed up with the OP. Oh wait, that's because you are, "Making ammunition more realistically scarce in DayZ would not only make it a much more valuable commodity, and tool rather then a simplistic, mechanical means to a destructive end and arcade game like play. People would be more willing to communicate and trade -- and less willing to use firearms on each other, instead of playing like armed zombies themselves..." My bad, your own words might need to be editted. -
A bad idea is a bad idea. Worse when someone comes up with it and doesn't even have the dignity to try to make it sound good before trying to feed it to the community. I said to try again. Instead of trying again, I get insulted. So either you can't come up with a GOOD idea, or lack the bare basic brain power to dress up a bad idea. Either way, TRY AGAIN. And no, everyone gets the same treatment. No entitlement here.

Make this shit hard. Less supply loot.
Zeromentor replied to The_Monk's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Last patch I had a rabbit run at me. Broke my legs. Fixed them with morphine and watched the rabbit run off. I turned around and spotted another rabbit. Broke my legs twice. Thank God I had 3 morphine at the time or I'd be crawling around the northern sectors of the map right now. -
Direwolf, Normal Wolf, or how about Feral German Shepards from the military? Well... We are getting the German Shepards.

Spawn on Recruit, switch to Hardcore. Just found a way to exploit. Try harder next time.

Make this shit hard. Less supply loot.
Zeromentor replied to The_Monk's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
"Mad Martha said Stuff" No. Reducing ammunition by a large margin would increase killing FOR ammunition. People would just use high-powered weapons more often. Players aggro'ing zombies would disconnect more often to avoid using their limited ammo, and even worse, server hoppers would do it MORE than they do now. I don't know why so many people think an extreme decrease in ammo loot would stop or decrease killings. Like when the food stopped spawning. What happened? HINT: More people died. Or when morphine became hard to find? Hint: Murders increased. Less ammo is an incentive to KILL for more ammo. Or to get someone else's gun, even if it means trading potentially 3 rounds for 5. 50% decrease is good enough. 90% is far too much. -
No. Bodies disappear relatively fast anyhow, dragging dead ones would be interesting for bait or to add morbid scenary, but adds no real use. Use a tent next time.
-
Make it, submit it and they might take it and run with it. Or... You can wait. A long, long time.

These zombies are not rotten, they are LIVING infected humans. So, they'd beat your ass down. Fightclub the wrong way.
