Will DayZ run on an Alienware M18x?

That's a lot of money for a laptop. If you want something cheaper, look into Asus's line of gaming laptops. They aren't better, but for a heck of a lot less they are cheaper (G73jh for like 1500$ about 2 years ago. I haven't looked into their laptops lately). Also, for that amount of money you could have a freaking awesome desktop.

    Not hackers nor city snipers..

If you are going for a fun and engaging experience, you will die a lot. You won't rack up a lot of days alive. And that's okay. To each their own. I perfer close to medium range weapons, so firefights tend to be quick, and many times I come out having taken a bullet or two. Sometimes, I die. But I have a lot of fun doing it.

    Died with 4k Blood???

Sarcasm. On the internet, prosidy and facial expression do not carry over, so interpretation is a bit**.

    Message to hackers

I don't feel empathy, nor can I sympathize. But I'll try to remain respectful of the OP's situation. OP. Meet with your boss in private, and try to discuss the issues you have with him in a civil and calm manner (note: CALM, as in, not nervous). Do not show weakness, stress or too much discomfort. If he attempts to insult you, threaten to fire you, or whatever, stand up for yourself. Threaten to quit, and potentially call a lawyer for his harassment (Don't quit, get fired, unemployment checks). Do not start a physical fight. If he gets physical, involve other people (witnesses). If you don't stand up for yourself, people will continue to put you down. You are equals, no matter his age, job title, or amount of money he has. If he refuses to see it, that's his problem. Don't be mistaken for a weakling, ignoring him and pretending it isn't happening won't do you or anyone else any good. If meeting with him does not solve the issue, go over his head. If there is no one over his head, find a lawyer and see what you can do.

    Died with 4k Blood???

Desync error, you were shot by something that did more damage than you have health. Died from getting shot in the ass with a .50 cal once. I died with 12k blood, while still standing. I returned to find my corpse still standing. Desync sucks.

    Not hackers nor city snipers..

Don't stand still or use ladders in or near Electro or Cherno. Do not run out in the open. When running around without cover, do not do so prone (slow target, easy for snipers) or crouch-run/walk (still slow, but easier target for snipers). Concealment (like bushes, wire fences, bodies or tall grass) does not stop a bullet. Cover (like brick walls, buildings or large rocks and sandbags) do. If you are spotted, and attempt to hide in or behind a bush, you will probably be shot. Note: Your version of cover is different for a sniper on a hill. You might see a small road with buildings on both sides, covered in wrecked cars, sandbags and piles of rubble, but the sniper is looking down at you from the hill, negating the cover you might try to use. Sitting still, running in a straight line to or away from them, or trying to move slowly (prone/crouch) will get you killed.

    Question about AS50

Well zombies lose aggro quickly unless they can see you. Past 180 meters, zombies don't usually come after you. At most, they scramble towards you for 20 feet, then stop and start walking around again. Next, I've hunted people firing rounds from the AS50. My volume is half way (50 out of 100) and I heard rounds coming from Sniper Hill in electro, when I was at the other firehouse (not the one next to the hill), which was roughly 700 meters away from the shooter. Whom I killed (no spotter, I snuck up on him and used a friend to distract him by sending him running through electro). So the sound does carry. Also, past 300 meters it sounds a lot like an M16, or other smaller caliber rifle. Which can be easily mistaken, or not even heard (note: I have no music running, so gunshots are easy for me to detect).

    WTF HAPPEND!

If they are hitting you through a building in the foot, well... Hacker. A .50 cal would be heard as it isn't a headshot (unless they were really far away, or your volume was turned down), and anything else wouldn't kill you. But, it could be a bear trap that was hacked to do extra damage and be invisible. God help us if that day comes when they are littering the ground. EDITTED in after rereading: Nope, NVM, not a hacker or bear trap. That 'snap' is actually the crack of the bullet. You are being shot by a long-distance AS50.

    Question about AS50

Unless I'm mistaken, isn't that aggro range for the sound when it comes to ZOMBIES?

    M24 or DMR?

This is a good reason, but I perfer the M24 just for zeroing. Sure, my opinion is a little biast. Took me a lot of wasted ammunition to figure out the drop, mildots and range of the DMR (I didn't look it up online, which I probably should have). If you can effectively use mildots, and don't mind not being able to zero, use the DMR. It has the unique ability to be used with NVG (night vision goggles). EDIT: Forgot to mention, which is common sense for most people but not all, they both use .308 (7.62x51mm NATO) which does 8k per round with a high chance to knock targets down. Headshots as always are instakills.

    1.7.2.5 is outdated?

1.7.2.5 is the most recent update. You have 1.7.2.4 as Six hasn't released the newest, most recent DayZ update. If you want to play 1.7.2.5. you need to manually download and install it.

    Quick Question

    Quick Answer: Hero.

Can someone explain damage in DayZ for me?

Generally, headshots kill anyone and anything. 1 round. After that, any hits anywhere does the max damage, which for the G17 is 889 damage. Now, if you take a hit to the legs, you have a high chance for them to break (I think they have like 600 health to defend against breaking). From what I can tell, distance does not decrease damage, the round just drops (unless you are zero'd in correctly, only applicable with certain weapons). Larger caliber rounds have a high chance of knocking the victim out. You bleed for like 60 health every few seconds, until you stop the wound from gushing blood. Please note: Silenced weapons have reduced range, but I have not properly tested to see if they do travel slower than regular rounds. EDIT: Also, I don't know if it is a bug, but sometimes smaller caliber rounds, like the Makarov's 9x18, don't cause bleeding. Could also be a desync error.

    Question about AS50

A headshot, the victim doesn't hear it. Or, I think past 1km. Maybe further. Some people have their volume maxed, so maybe further than that.
  15. I don't. I really can't. Listening to music would drown out the sounds of gunfire, movement and vehicles. If I could, I'd listen to my small collection of rock and techno.
  16. I don't think either of those exist in DayZ, outside of hacking it in.
  17. Not even remotely worth a forum thread. Maybe an unread post on someone else's thread. Ugh. 2/10

    .50 cal rifles and you

So you agree that many weapons are too weak, not that the .50 is too powerful. Because what I gathered from this post was, ".45s are not strong enough" which is so very true. But many of the rounds in this game would really kill you in the first hit. If you managed by some great miracle to survive, then you'd be next to useless in a combat situation. Sadly, BI nerfed the hell out of many rounds, and never once looked at the DayZ setup to provide us with more realistic damage. And Rocket has been unable to change the damage to something that makes sense. I, for one, was deeply saddened when the .45 lost it's 3 hit potential, and now takes more than a full magazine to kill a player.

    Should the Mod be abandoned

Like others have said, they should keep developing the mod until the point they no longer need it to flesh out ideas, and then they can dump it for the standalone. As it is, so much has been devoted to the mod, the least they can do is use it as a testing ground for fringe ideas, and see if they work, before wasting time on bad ideas for the standalone. Also, less clean up work if the idea goes to crap and messes something up. A mod you're about to abandon is great for testing for this purpose. So I can't really go with any choices in the poll, as the closest would be develop both together, but I don't care if the mod is completed, only interested in the standalone, but I don't want to see them give up on the mod when it can still be useful!

1.7.2.4 VS. Hotfix 1.7.2.5 which is better?

Well, seeing that we are testers, and not much more, you kinda should just update to 1.7.2.5 just because it's the newest patch. I mean, if we don't test it, how can they find the bugs to fix the bugs it has? But if you can't update because you rely on a third party updater, than I don't see an issue with waiting. *wink wink*

    .50 cal rifles and you

I dislike the ease of using the .50cals ingame. Personally, I don't have much of a problem with the 1-hit kill. Infact, without body armor of some kind, most people would die to sucking chest wounds and the shock of being hit by a .308, so I kind of expect there to be 1-hitters. Also, some snipers are very good shots. Others, not so much. I have no problem with them being ingame. The only problem is that the rarity of such weapons is thrown out the window due to dupers (which is most clans out there, and potentially anyone looting their camps). This makes the rare and powerful M107s and AS50s very often encountered among the sniper playstyle. Infact, I see more AS50s than CZ550, M24 and M107 combined, which shows the extremes of the problem, and have only found 1 AS50 at a crashsite. But the limited ammunition (or the planned rarity of such) is suppose to balance it out. Sadly once again, duping causes these limits to disappear. Not like I use long range rifles often. I perfer close-medium range weapons, like FN Fals, M14s, and AKMs. I hand scoped rifles to people who like to sit back and shot (or who might be more of a hinderance than assistance in a city or close-range environment). But I don't see a problem with them. I do, however, have a problem with the beta patch that nerfed many guns to the point of uselessness (see: 9mm ammunition).
  23. And those are my favorite kind of hackers. The one's the do odd things, and the ones that help people are okay in my book. The rest out to ruin people's fun are just the lowest form of people. Griefing cheaters. Pathetic.
  24. Generic Petty Squabbling post #9000062 No but seriously, humanity is nearly impossible to work correctly, which is one reason we can't have a full blown punishment system for bandits. Because then people would just spawn at the coast, grab a gun and terrorize people until they are eventually killed (never having to kill anyone, just break legs or fire their weapon) thus getting people punished for defending themselves. So, the best we can hope for is pretty much what we already see. Skins. Just a flag to note that a person is guilt of killing someone, whether or not they are actual bandits, or they defended themselves from bandit-wannabes numberous times. Unless someone comes up with a remarkably simple, easy to build and actually workable idea, we aren't going to see much better outside of a more refined version of what we now have.
