    Fix for the Crossbow

    Okay, so here is my own spin on fixing the Crossbow. First problem, and the hardest to fix, is the single-stack bolts. The problem? For the damage, the bolts take up a lot of room which could be easily replaced by something more powerful with less reloading required per shot. The only thing it has going for it is the stealth aspect. The fix: Simple, sort of. The reloading animation is getting a change. As well as how stacks function for the crossbow. Instead of single 'bolts' they will be 'bolt stacks' or 'quivers' of 8 or so bolts. Maybe more, maybe less. Make the crossbow a semi auto weapon, much like a Lee Enfield, but reduce the rounds per minute to how ever long it takes to reload it (For this, I haven't timed it, we'll say the reloading animation takes 3 seconds). The simple fix- After each round fired, you have to wait 3 seconds before you can fire (semi-auto, remember that) again. During this time, the reload animation plays, making it look like the bolts are being loaded in (when in reality, the mechanic makes it where you are limited in the fire rate). So now, ingame, you are limited in the fire rate to 1 round per 3 seconds, and the reloading animation plays while you wait for the next round. Bolts can stack, retain their poor damage, but no longer suck up all your inventory space. Next problem, reclaiming lost bolts. I'm not sure how this works ingame, but it seems many bolts just hover mid-air after hitting a target, and many times my friends have lost sight of these bolts and have been unable to reclaim them. So, I'm going to pretend we have saved ammunition per magazine for this next part, and that each bolt recollected will stack until a 'Quiver Stack' has been refilled. If that is impossible, we can dump this idea altogether. Each enemy that is killed with a crossbow bolt generates 1 bolt in thier lootable inventory. The bolt ingame, out of the inventory, disappears much the same as a bullet when it impacts a target. Better to have a bolt disappear than have it float in the air for all to see. It's not like people will miss that very much. The only problem here is that you could send three bolts at a target and only reclaim 1. Or fire as many as 16 at a player (God, I've had people go full auto with an AK at 300 meters, missing every round, so this isn't hard to imagine) and only reclaim one from their body. I'm also one of those crazy players that think the crossbow needs to do more damage. Why? Because as it is now, you can fire at a zombie, hit them, and still need another round to kill them. Unless you start letting us stack bolts (see fix above to allow this) the damage stinks. Worse yet is using them against players. Sure they are silent, give off no muzzle flash, sound or smoke, but the bolts tend to lodge in the air and point STRAIGHT AT YOU!! They give away your position, and any person with an even basic understanding of direction can find you in a second. So yeah, there's my thoughts to fix what I see as a broken weapon. If they crossbow is SUPPOSE to be like that, much like how the Makarov sucks, then I can understand that and leave the issue be. But please, give my idea some thought. (NOTE: I don't know if the Arma engine allows for animations between firing, as I have never seen our characters use the bolts on certain rifles)

    Close range aiming is screwed up.

    From what I have gathered, the bullet starts in the chamber as it goes down the barrel, out to the target, and hits. BUT, if the target is standing directly in front of you, and your weapon has a long barrel (Lee Enfield, M16, etc) the barrel passes through them. Even worse, it seems the bullet travelling down the barrel does not do damage, so in a sense it is waiting until it gets down the tunnel (barrel) to come out the back of the zombie, doing no damage. The same way a train goes down a mountain-side tunnel and doesn't explode from hitting an invisible wall that doesn't exist. I can't really explain it any better. ................... XXXXXXXX [chamber]0====barrel=====0 <Bullet Exits down the tunnel, never touching the target. Simply goes through them. bullet...........XXzombieXX start.............XXXXXXXXX Visual representation. Sucks, sure, but the best I could do.

    1.7.3 - Lets Wipe the Hive

    I agree with a wipe. Too many hacked in weapons are floating around, and dupers are just making a bad situation far, far worse. M4A3 ACOG GL. It's an M4A3 camo, with an ACOG sight and a grenade launcher. I seen this yesterday and popped the guy using it, plus his buddy. Also got killed by a group of five in Electro, three using G36C SDs, one with an AS50 TWS, and the last being the only legit-ish guy was using a hatchet with his makarov. Plus, I'm starting to find tents packed with these weapons, as well as satchel charges. Worse yet, they are poorly hidden near electro and cherno. These people now have so many of these, they no longer care to hide their tents because they can just dupe more.
  4. The real problem with this is the AS50 TWS going around. It is starting to replace the normal AS50 with most snipers, and can spot you through most concealment. Outside of solid cover (hiding in a building with no windows, or on the otherside of a hill/large rock) there is nothing you can really do. Zig-Zagging just gives them a slower target, and poor judgement on turning time could literally mean you are just dancing in place as you slowly edge forward, providing a slow upright target. I so wish the Devs would wipe the servers. You can't stop the dupers from duping more good gear, but you can stop them from using hacked gear for a time.

    As said, you won't be banned for doing that. The server admin just has a defense in place to stop people from putting their nose where it doesn't belong.

    Fucking Humanity...

    I played for over 2 months, racked up nearly a kill every other day (sometimes I got 5 kills a day, sometimes I went a week without) but my humanity is positive. So if your humanity is under -10,000, you killed a lot of players, and I highly doubt most of those were self-defense. God, I kill people I see for holding a weapon, but I don't camp coastal cities with a .50 cal.

    Yep, I've encountered a massive decrease in hackers (not at pre-July levels, but much lower than early August). And remember. As long as software is created to serve humans, hackers will always exist.

    has the as50 tws been added back in?

    US264 (or was it US246? I think the former), I killed 3 people and died at close range to another to find they had AS50 TWSs. The three I killed I hid the bodies, leaving the weapons on them. The one that killed me was so close I was able to see the sight and even get two rounds off from my M16 before taking a .50cal round for my inability to get off those last two needed for a kill. One of those I killed was nice enough to tell me that his clan was giving them out for free, supposedly duped to extremes after one of their members killed a scripter and took his rifle. Although, this same person did not tell me the clan name, nor did he have it in his own name. Side Chat on this server was helpful. As far as I can tell, it hasn't been readded, instead people are hacking it in, and then clans are duping it once they have their hands on it. I will continue to thin the numbers and hide bodies with such weapons.

    Dear Hackers,

    One, don't make threads yelling at or whining about hackers. Report them, move on. Otherwise, you are actually doing EXACTLY what they want, making your rage known to them. (Hint: They will never get laid, so their angst flows freely through games) Two, that video was awesome.

    Tips for successfully being a medic?

    Use Stealth to close gaps, don't run in the open. Put MEDIC in your name, so people on nametagged servers are less likely to shoot you (many won't care and will anyhow). Do not hold a weapon. There is a small minority out there that does not track and kill unarmed players unless they do something wrong (zombie train, stare, etc), but most will kill you anyhow. Do not wear camo or ghillies. People won't even check to see if you are a medic, they'll believe you are an aggressive traveler from the north and put you down hoping for an AS50 or M4A1 CCO SD. Use cover, don't start communications in their sightlines. If they don't respond or respond with a monotonous "Friendly" without any feeling or emotion in their voice, they are just busy... Lining up their sights with your head. If someone tells you to run away, do it. I feel those are just fairly common sense, but I added them to the thread anyhow. Have fun and good luck.

    Weapon Poll

    G17- has 17 rounds per magazine, as well as a flashlight for trolling friends, or lighting up people on very dark nights. 9mm sucks versus players, but the 17 rounds can down a lot of zombies. FN FAL- 8k damage per round, rate of fire that matches trigger pulls, and decent iron sights. I usually play for medium range (200-400 meter range), so this weapon really fits well for its purpose. The night vision one is useless in the daytime, so I perfer the one without it. M24- Really, not my favorite, and not even one that you find often. But it seems that I have the uncanny ability to find nearly the exact range (down to ~25 meters) of a target, and can zero in on them for an easy shot. When I need a sniper rifle, I find one that fits the role AND lets me zero. So the DMR is out, as well as the M14, and the .50cals are just too loud/bulky for my taste.

    I think the noise at the end of the video isn't actually a gunshot, but the sound of the second guy's character groaning as he died. Rewatch the first video at around 2:02, "I just died" *awh* From what I see, which is nothing, and what I hear, which is pretty much nothing, it was either an EXTREMELY far away guy with the AS50 Nato rounds loaded into a magazine, and managed to hit the engine in the first shot. Or it was a hacker that insta-killed you. My money is on AS50 from a long distance. EDIT: My first post wouldn't save.
  15. Tents out in the open are usually traps, so people are not likely to go to them thinking a sniper might have set them up as bait. Also, trying to chase people down to give them stuff looks more like you are trying to kill them. I would suggest placing a tent inside of the back of a store, or inside a school building, where there is less chance a sniper might set up to watch them, and place the items inside. Schoolbuilding in Electro would be great. Many people hit that before they leave to the powerplant, which tends to be their final resting place anyhow.
  16. I haven't played in 3 days. But nice try. But no, you didn't do enough damage to kill him. You didn't do enough to knock him down. And as you said, you didn't even accurately see his gun, so you don't know what he was using. So all we know now is that you tried to shoot a ghillie-suited man 4 times with an extremely nerfed pistol. Then lost and proceeded to the forums to call him a hacker. 0/10. You lost, try again.
  17. I'm not a bandit, and I don't believe I have ever said I was. Also, at close range you don't fire two rounds and wait to see if they die. And don't forget the burst mode. Here's a little story. I had an FN Fal, and found a person running around on top of a hill. I stopped, aimed and fired 5 rounds into him. Then I died. He died no less than 15 seconds later. Either by lag, server desync or whatever, he lived long enough with 5 .308 rounds in his stomach to kill me. My buddy secured the area, and it turns out he was alone and got 1 round off with his AK74 Kobra. 5 rounds from the FN Fal is a hell of a lot more than 12k blood. But he managed to get that one round off, and live another 15 seconds. At first, I thought he was a hacker. But when he died, I decided he was just lagging. And if you fire once and wait, you'll almost never get a kill with only 8k damage per round. They'll DC, run away or fire back and kill you. And I don't camp on hills overlooking loot spawns, so people don't usually sit still for me unless they are trying to snipe my bait. Ak74 and variants do less than 3k damage per round, with terrible recoil if you even attempt full auto. Single rounds won't net you a kill very quickly. Do you mean the AKM? It does 4555 per round, and has better recoil control. Also, the Lee Enfield now does 6.7k damage per round, and compared to the same effective range and iron sights as the FN Fal, as well as less fire rate and less ammunition per magazine, it isn't a better weapon. Sorry. I, too, miss the old Enfield.
  18. Dude, 4 rounds does LESS THAN 6k blood AFTER bleeding. You'd really do like 5556 damage, with 60 every few seconds. That would barely phase anyone. If you wanted to kill him, you'd need to empty all six into him, reload and do it again. Sure, that might be overkill, but not by much, maybe 4k damage overkill if you didn't miss. And not bleeding? Desync, just not seeing it, maybe you experienced a visual bug. Sometimes you can see people die, and then a minute later like four fountains of blood will begin to pour out of their corpse. It isn't always instant, and it varies per server (some servers are just bad or slow) and per each player's connection. Hacker with a silenced SVD? How do you know it was an SVD? Did you actually see it? Maybe he was firing an M4A1 CCO SD at you. Maybe you just suck. Next time, keep running, you obviously don't know how many rounds it takes to drop someone, even when you KNOW the weapon was nerfed. EDIT: For spelling mistakes.
  19. I know, I love the FN Fal, but 2 magazines does not go that far if you intend to kill anyone. Also, 20 rounds means 10 kills against unmoving, or close range targets. In a real firefight, you will probably open up on a moving target. That means missing. As well as distant enemies (Iron sights on FN Fal, terrible for extended ranged combat) and what happens if they show up or try to retreat in a vehicle, will you just not fire? 10 kills for 20 rounds on average? No. Average players might get 3 or 4. Above average might get 8. Only perfect shots, or well placed headshots will net you equal or more than 10.

  21. 4 revolver rounds? Dude, hate to break it to you, but .45 ACP in revolvers only do 1389 damage per round now. That's less than 6k damage, even with the bleeding between the rounds. I took 6 rounds from a revolver and then pumped the attacker with a fews slugs from my shotgun. Bet that dude thought I was cheating as well. Nope. .45s are crap now. 14 rounds from a 9mm to kill a player, too. Don't use pistols to kill anyone unless you know for a fact you can get a headshot.

    Zeromentor, soldier. I don't recall my level, but I played off and on for a few months. Played before they made people use the unity player to play the game (when it was a 2D bird's eye view browser, and then after when it went 3D). I don't really want to see anything from dead frontier except for the city. I like cities. I like killing zombies in cities. I want something bigger than Cherno.

    Some servers just suck. I was almost literally instantly connecting to US 905. Like I hit, "OK" and Boom, loaded in. Crazy fast. Other servers, the loading screen gave me enough time to pop open netflix and watch a movie before it finished...

    Common Glitch? Or hackers?

    Too many things to list, so. A: Restarted server glitched and emptied its save, all camps are gone. B: Hacker blew everything up, server reset and stuff saved as being gone. C: You didn't save it, after 3 days the stuff went poof (or the save glitched and you thought you saved it but didn't). Tons of other things could have happened as well, like it could be a new server and your old one is gone or replaced.
  25. I seen one like that near cherno, but it was flipped over. But there was also a Bus (full gas and repaired) and an ATV hidden in the hill nearby (fuly repaired, missing a little bit of gas). Spooky, as there wasn't anyone in cherno. Waited around for the owners, and when no one showed up (there wasn't even any dead bodies or flies) we grabbed the vehicles and joyrode them until we wrecked them like the V3S we had found in a camp. Fun times. But yeah, tan is legit.
