Camping is just as bad as disconnecting to avoid death.
Turin (DayZ) replied to KVCC's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I agree, camping in a good location (whether it's a loot hotspot or a good place to pick off other players) is just as bad as disconnecting to avoid death. In fact, i'd say it's worse because it affects other players more. I'm not really sure what the solution is though. There are a number of things that could be done to discourage people from server hopping in loot hotspots, but not so much to stop someone simply camping in a great location for racking up kills. -
As long as it remains true to the hardcore realism of Arma 2 and doesn't go arcadey or cinematic....

An Idea to Stop most of the PvP
Turin (DayZ) replied to THEOTHERJESTER's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Not a bad idea. At the moment it's too easy for people to simply ignore zombies completely and go around playing the mod like a open-world PvP deathmatch game with loot. Rocket already seems to have the right idea with the latest updates in trying to shift the emphasis back onto surviving zombies... but making guns louder, or zombies more aware and responsive to gunshots could take that a step further and really make players think twice about killing other players on sight. -
Not sure if I like that idea. If you start adding things like that, then soon enough more and more people start asking for more excessive hand-holding features and it all ends up detracting from the realistic and immersive nature of the game.
-
Seems like they've gone for balance more than strict realism. Zombies have a good reach to make them more formidable... while melee weapons have modest reach so they don't become OP. Maybe not the best approach. I'd rather have melee weapons realistically lethal, then counter that with rarity.

Zombies spawning in buildings...kind of makes stealth pointless now..
Turin (DayZ) replied to Slyguy65's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think there should be zombies in some buildings. Some, but not all. Maybe a 1 in 10 chance or something. That way all buildings aren't simply viewed as a safe-haven you can run into in order to survive. There's an element of chance involved, and you always have to be cautious about running into a building in case a zombie is there. -
I don't like the idea of changing weapons while running. Seems too arcadey to me, and contrary to the realistic approach of Arma / Dayz.

Seriously what happened Rocket?
Turin (DayZ) replied to robersdee's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think Rocket had the right idea with some of the latest changes. They're things that would've taken the mod in the right direction and improved it a lot. It's just a shame that they messed things up a bit. Nothing worth getting upset over though. The mod is quite clearly advertised as being in the early stages of development. New features are bound to be tested - some will work, others won't. Some will cause bugs, etc. If you can't take the bad with the good then why are you playing an alpha stage mod in the first place? :-/ Go play something else for several months, a year, or however long it is before there's a stable, polished, and pretty much complete version of DayZ. -
As long as it doesn't detract from the realism and make the experience feel too "gamey" i'd be fine with them adding another type of zombie that's rarer, but perhaps a bit more lethal and/or resilient than the rest. This is meant to be a hardcore zombie survival simulation though, not an arcade zombie shooter. Sticking an obvious "boss" for the player to kill in every town might cheapen the experience.

This is a good idea for some doors (not all), as long as other players can unlock doors from the outside (perhaps with a lockpick).
-
It would be nice to have it as findable loot, but aren't skins still broken at the moment? I'd rather they fix the issues with the current skins first before adding new ones to the game.

Tweaking the Winchester, Double Barrel and Lee Enfield
Turin (DayZ) replied to AstroZombie's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Agreed. -
I would say DayZ is great simply because of how well the concept of surviving a zombie apocalypse works with the huge open world of Chernarus and the realistic gameplay of Arma 2. The actual implementation of zombies isn't bad, and all the additional survival features are pretty good, but there's certainly a lot of room for improvement.
-
I would say around 40% of the time i've encountered a survivor and not shot at them, they've turned out to be friendly. The other 60% have just murdered me. Now I just try harder to avoid them completely. Instead of walking upto one, I hide and move away.
-
Once you know how the zombies behave, it isn't impossible at all.
-
You mean like a modern compound bow?
-
I agree, it seems silly that you can only hold either a flashlight or a pistol at one time instead of both. Accuracy should probably change though when shooting one handed.

Follow literally every other development cycle
Turin (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'd tend to agree. While the intentions were good, making so many significant changes in one update was asking for trouble. Maybe the concern though is that if they add only one thing at a time, people get fed up with the constant updates? -
Meh, the learning curve is all part of the experience in my opinion. Adding a tutorial would just make it too 'gamey' and less of a hardcore survival experience.
-
As suggested in another thread, I think they should keep the 24hr day/night cycle, but make it random for each server, rather than set to match the timezone of the server's location.

Rocket, Review your own game.
Turin (DayZ) replied to myzsarc's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you're being shot at, run away. Don't just stand there. I wish people would stop moaning about the removal of the starter pistol. It's a great change. -
I like this idea. :D It'll make new players think twice on whether they should eat it or risk going hungry.
-
HOLY F*** this game is bugged.
Turin (DayZ) replied to Klaz48's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Just be patient. I'm sure they're hard at work trying to fix the problems with the latest updates. -
why do 90% of the servers have old version?
Turin (DayZ) replied to Tikka (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Maybe they're just slow, haven't updated their server names, or are just reluctant to update because of the issues with recent versions? -
As long as they don't go Fable on us and have dog companions bark whenever there's loot nearby. :s Honestly though, I don't really see dog companions working that well at all. I'd rather have rabid hostile dogs out in the wilderness as another threat to be wary of.
