Start PvP Raids in DayZ! Create HQ
Turin (DayZ) replied to noobalert!'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
It's about surviving in a world full of zombies first and foremost. If people just want to ignore the zombies and run around killing each other then they should just go and play regular Arma 2. :-/This isn't supposed to be a PvP deathmatch experience with loot. It's supposed to be a hardcore zombie apocalypse survival simulation. Yes, PvP encounters should come into it, and yes there should be some killing involved as well as some cooperation, but it shouldn't become the focus of the game. -
This game isn't for everyone. Go play something else with more action in it if you're bored. I just hope Rocket has the sense not to cave in to all this whining. The changes he's making are positive changes that are taking the mod in the right direction - despite the moaning of a vocal minority.

Quick suggestion: How about having a paper map that actually looks like it could be an item in the gameworld, instead of the current one you find as loot which just looks like part of the game's UI? Just a standard, paper map with no markers on it or anything. To orient themselves, players would have to go to the nearest town, look at a signpost, and figure out where they are on the map that way. Maybe they could even increase the likelihood of finding maps slightly (a lot of people just look up maps on the internet anyway) but make it so that some are in better condition than others. For instance, some might be torn, others might be damaged by weather, dirt, or fire... etc. Finding partially damaged maps could be quite common, while finding a map in perfect condition could be more rare. I think this would a nice little change to boost immersion a bit and the feeling of being in a believable gameworld.

I didn't see anything similar on the recent search history *shrug* I guess with the amount of suggestions being posted daily' date=' repeats are inevitable. You're right about that, but I still think this idea would be a nice touch for those who don't just look up external maps on the internet.

It's sad that people are respawning because they're too lazy to walk, but I think letting people choose where they spawn is a bad idea. It would be far too convenient for players to spawn close to loot hotspots. And personally, I think anyone who has such a problem with travelling across the gameworld really has no business playing an open-world game of this magnitude in the first place. :-/ This game isn't for everyone. Just because you find it tedious moving around the map doesn't mean it should be dumbed down for everyone. Next you'll be asking for some kind of fast-travel system...

Start PvP Raids in DayZ! Create HQ

I don't think PvP deathmatching should be encouraged, even if it's limited to one area. it's just not what the mod should be about. -
If I had my hands in this mod (updated server jumping fix)
Turin (DayZ) replied to Carl Weathers's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Some form of character development would be nice, as long as it's plausible, relevant to survival, and doesn't detract from the realism of the game. There's always the risk though that it'll promote grinding - i.e. people playing the game solely to level up rather than to survive. -
why do people have difficulties starting w/o weapons
Turin (DayZ) replied to Tikka (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
When a game gets so much mainstream attention, it's bound to attract a casual crowd. I'd bet 90% of the people whining about it are people who have no experience playing Arma 2 and bought it specifically for DayZ. -
New Spawn Gear BREAKS THE GAME
Turin (DayZ) replied to Wolffie's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Stop whining, it's a big improvement. Most likely you've died once through your own fault of not being cautious enough, got mad, and decided to come on the forums and moan, exaggering how often and how fast you died. -
SUGGESTION (probably heard a few times honestly)
Turin (DayZ) replied to Cda's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
A shove action isn't necessarily a bad idea. I definitely against the idea of bringing back the starter pistol though... -
It would help solve the PvP problem, but too much at the expense of realism in my opinion. Besides, I don't think they should try and make PvP playing completely unviable. Killing someone in order to take their stuff should be a viable survival option. They just need to figure out a way of making it not quite such a common occurrence.

300 player servers ever possible?
Turin (DayZ) replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There's a high possibility of dying when playing COD. :-/ That doesn't make COD a good survival simulator... Trust me, the more you fill the map with players, the more the game will turn into an online open-world FPS game in deathmatch mode. -
300 player servers ever possible?
Turin (DayZ) replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The map is huge, but i think 50 players is the right amount personally. Run-ins with players should be a rare occurence, and the majority of the time you should feel like you're isolated and alone. Certainly any more than 150 and I think it would become an all-out open-world deathmatch experience with people just running around killing each other constantly. Not the right direction at all for the game. -
I don't really like either idea, especially the first. Too unrealistic.
-
Agreed. The mod seems to be heading in this direction already, but more can definitely be done to promote group survival instead of PvP deathmatching.
-
While I agree that something needs to be done to make death more meaningful and frustrating for the player, I really don't this idea is the right way to go. The cons far outweigh the pros. Instead, they should simply look towards making the game tougher, so when you do die and lose all your stuff, you care more because it's not so easy to get it all back.
-
Nah, I don't like that idea. It would make the experience too "gamey" when it should just be an immersive survival experience.

Radios instead of side and global channel?
Turin (DayZ) replied to Schmittrigger's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
It has been suggested quite a few times before. I think it's a pretty good idea. -
What's the point of shooting zombies ?
Turin (DayZ) replied to kevenc's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This isn't supposed to be a zombie horde killing game where you go into a town and clear it of all zombies for fun. It's about survival. If you can't use stealth to avoid zombies or if they spot you, kill a few to buy yourself time until you can escape. Personally, I think it should be impractical for a survivor to wipe out all the zombies coming for them... unless it's a very small group. -
just got a sexy gun, so hard not to get attached to it.
Turin (DayZ) replied to Hze's topic in New Player Discussion
That's my current gun at the moment. It's pretty great. I wouldn't worry too much about losing it though. I've seen others around... so they're not that uncommon. -
Indeed. People who are buying Arma 2 just for DayZ need to realise that it's just an alpha mod that's still a long way from being polished and complete. Too many seem to think they're entitled to complain about the current state of DayZ as if they're paying customers. They're not. What they've bought is Arma 2, not a product called 'DayZ'.
-
I think they either need to make melee weapons: - Realistically lethal, with the right range and damage - but fairly rare or - Balanced to be only moderately effective in spite of realism - but fairly common ...otherwise, too many people will run around using them and it'll detract from the overall feel of the game.
-
Well of course you're more likely to die in a town than out in the wilderness, but I still don't think that's enough incentive for players to avoid towns completely and resort to making crude bow and arrows in the woods to survive. Not unless you significantly reduce the amount of guns that can be found as loot. Chernogorsk is supposedly one of the most dangerous places in the game, yet i've looted it half a dozen times in one life before, finding a ton of loot in the process. :-/ Why would I bother resorting to making bows and arrows in the wilderness (aside for the novelty value) when it's so easy for me to loot towns?
-

It's an interesting idea, but I really don't think towns are anywhere near dangerous enough (or guns anywhere near rare enough) to prompt survivors into making their own crude bow and arrow. If they added this feature to the game right now, it would come across as more of a fun gimmick for people who like bow and arrows than a useful and worthwhile survival method. If they really wanted to satisfy the urges of people who want to use a bow and arrow, it would probably make more sense to just stick a modern compound bow into the game as a rare hunting item that can be found.
