    100+ Player servers?

They're not local, they're pathing calculations are just done locally and then trasmitted to the server in some fashion. It's probably on a zombie by zombie basis based on who the zombie's active target is and then transmitted to the server and then to the other players who aren't the zombie's active target.
  2. Stealthing around them really isn't difficult once you get the hang of it and once you get a hatchet the whole fear of zombies is completely alleviated. While stealthing (as to not aggro 5 zombies at once) you can easily just kill any zombie that does see you without having to worry about ammo or the sound attracting more. Once one sees me I just wait until he gets closer and begin crouch walking backwards whilst swinging the hatchet and most of the times I'll kill the zombie before he even gets a hit off on me. Don't get me wrong I love being able to run around carelessly, but it just doesn't seem to go along with the theme of the mod.

    Alt + F4 exploit

I think that issue is due to you not having a soul. Try getting one and seeing if that fixes it.
  4. How could you possibly determine someone is in combat to force first person? That they shot? They they were shot at? That an enemy is nearby? In any case you would instantly be given more information by entering first person. Also, I'm not sure of rocket's stance or whatever on the realism, but you can't simply throw realism at every arguement for this should or shouldn't be in the mod. Do they just inject you with morphine at the hospital and send you on your way when you break a bone? Can you not jump in real life? When you have a backpack tightly wrapped around your arms does it simply disappear at random when you're swimming without any chance of recovery?

    1.7.1.5 loot patterns

Probably already mentioned here... but flashlights need not spawn at all considering we all start with one.
  6. I didn't know that, but that seems kinda silly. I think it should be allowed to have a server sit at whatever time you want especially considering you can simply join another server to get a different time. No point in penalizing people who want to play in the day by lowering their ping O.o
  7. I couldn't stand playing in first person. Have you ever been prone and rolled in first person? Your screen might as well turn off until the roll is completed because it's not like you could possibly make anything out during it. With the amount of head bob/sway in first person, I can't say first person only is a good idea. I'm fine with the shaking from pain, but with any sort of motion blur it makes trying to actually see anything pretty difficult while any movement is happening. I would prefer we all adopt a tradition of eating your parents' corpse when they die rather than burying them to playing this game in first person only.
  8. From what I can tell there are three ways to find a server: in game, through Six Launcher, and through Six Updater. So far I've been using Six Launcher with reasonable success. I usually just use a filter on the server name for the current version and then just sort the columns to further refine my search. Six Updater seems pretty powerful with many more features, but it's also a little confusing at times. Which method do you guys use to find a good server? How do you filter/search for them?

How Do You Play With Friends?

Another quick tip is that the game doesn't draw if it's not the active window. If you don't have DayZ as the active window when your character loads you'll miss the chance to see your spawn location.

    Is it possible to trust?

Oh of course. I'm only saying that if your main objective is to maximize your chances of survival (such as in a realistic situation), you must simply trust no one. I like this idea for a game though because I've never been so immersed in a game like I have been here where I'm just trying to survive. Even in this game dying isn't much of a penalty. Sure you lose your gear, but it's all gear that with luck can be obtained again within a few hours and you'll be back to where you were when you died. I think if dying had more reprecussions people would be more friendly in general and it would shift the balance towards survival with less emphasis on simply killing everyone. This still depends on people recognizing that if they kill without thought that others may kill them without though. Seems like a vicious cycle that I'm not sure how we break out of.

    Is it possible to trust?

Possible? Yes. Wise? No. This mod does a pretty good job and simulating such an apocalypse in a fun and engaging way. In no other game have I been ok with running through a forest for 15 minutes with absolutely nothing happening. You can only trust someone when you have the upper hand. If you have a gun I should kill you. The risk that you could at any point turn and waste all of my time in that life is too great. It's simply not worth it to trust you unless I know without a doubt that you can't hurt me. I enjoy the idea of bandits and such, but I feel like normally they should be a minority in comparision to the other survivors. I'm not sure how it should be addressed, but I'd love an incentive to be a good person.. or at least NOT a dick.
  12. I'd like to start off by saying I'm loving this mod. I fail so hard while playing, but this game is so immersive it's like nothing I've experienced thus far. My biggest problem so far has been actually getting to play with my friends. The hotfixes come out so rapidly that many servers aren't up-to-date. I'm assuming (I very well be mistaken) that if I'm renting a server I would be able to initiate updating the server myself so I could expedite that process. The servers that are up-to-date always fill up so quickly that it's difficult to even find space for 3 people to play together. I understand kicking public players to make space for my personal friends is no longer allowed due to some abusing the ability. I've also seen people complain about it, but I'm not sure of official rules and didn't see anything concrete, but would I be allowed to enable a password when the server is at 50/50 just to ensure that when people leave it will leave space for my friends and I could disable the password once my friends have joined? Also, is there a consolidated list of groups renting out servers for DayZ (I've seen individual posts, but I'd like to compare prices and locations). Bottom line is I just want to be able to play with my friends whenever I want and I'm willing to pay to rent a server.
  13. I've never administrated a server so I don't know the capabilities or limitations associated with such. I've seen rocket mention putting in reserved slots in the future which would obviously solve this issue. Is it possible to run a script or something on the server that would enable a password when say player count is 47/50? This would effectively reserve slots and I don't see that it shouldn't be allow for any logical reason. I don't want to exploit or abuse anything: I just want to actually play with my friends :(

    Pending Hotfix: Build 1.7.1.3

Could we try to not have as many hotfixes? I understand you're fixing things that need to be fixed (no food/water), server crash due to melee weapon magazine bug, etc., but once things like those are fixed I'd prefer (maybe most of us would?) to wait a little longer for the next update. We're gonna be on 1.7.1.3 now and there are still servers running 1.7.0 making it difficult not only to find a server with enough space for me and my friends, is daytime, and has 3rd person on in addition to the huge lack of server selection simply due to version.

Having difficulty?? We got your back.

Also from the dayzmap.info map, if you look at a lootable area, it will give you stats like zombie spawn chance, number of zombies spawned, number of loot spots, and loot spawn chance. How do these work? Is it a % change to spawn zombies every 30 seconds or something? Is the chance to spawn loot per pile? Example: Zombie spawn chance: 40% Number of z's spawned: 2−6 Number of loot spots: 12 Loot spawn chance: 90%

Having difficulty?? We got your back.

I've got my own group of friends IRL that I'm learning the game with so I'll pass on the grouping (unless we happen to meet), but instead of creating a new thread I hope you don't mind me asking some questions here. I'm sure the other new ones will benefit from this as well. On dayzmap.info there are some red symbols that look like a p as well as a box with a flag. What do those mean? Once you've pulled your flashlight out, how do you use it? I've tried, 'L', middle mouse click & scroll, as well as most of the keys on my keyboard, but I can't seem to turn it on... O.o
