  1. I do a gaming blog over at Frags and Beer, and I am doing an experiment inspired by my first couple of days playing this mod, and the theme and feel of the site. Don't want to give too much away so come check it out at fragsandbeer.wordpress.com. I borrowed one of the pics from this site, I hope you don't mind guys. I credited the site and all, just didn't find any sort of press package or free use images. In the future I will probably use screen captures if that's cool. If not let me know, I'll take the pic down. Hope you enjoy.
  2. Had a clanmate write up a guest post/review of DayZ http://fragsandbeer.wordpress.com/2012/07/23/dayz-mod-for-arma-ii-a-guest-review/
  3. Why institute arbitrary and forced penalties in a simulator? How bout this, why don't we handle things like we do in real life, this is a simulator after all. Take names, and kick their asses? I'm not a bandit, don't shoot people unless they start crap, but still don't want to see some sort of forced conditions that make no sense.
  4. More info for those interested in Zombie stuffs. http://fragsandbeer.wordpress.com/2012/07/03/zombie-watch-houses-for-your-post-zombie-apocalyptic-future/
  5. An exploit is an unintended glitch in a game, that is then used for an advantage by people that know about it over people that don't. When it is designed into a game, with a key to select it, and fully functional results, it is not an exploit it is a feature. This feature let's you see around corners and over walls, but not through them. Because everyone can use it, there is no tactical advantage to it. It is not only fair (everyone can do it), it is not cheating. And, like someone said, people that play on 3p servers are not going to go to 1p servers just to kill people.
  6. Posted another journal entry inspired by the game. Link at the top.
  7. That would be more than a fair compromise as long as they consider that some servers are paid for by more than one person. Some clans take donations for VIP slots on a lot of games, and in the case of my gaming clan, we all pay monthly dues in order to keep ourselves in a good, and up to date server.
  8. Unrealistic? How is it unrealistic? Ghilli suit goes over pack, or pack gets extra cover. Can't access pack without taking it off your back but there's no animation for that, why demand change for ghilli suit? If you want realism add an animation for taking off the pack and opening it, taking time, and not being able to do another action, and add an animation for pulling up your suit or pulling off a camo'ed pack and opening it...or just leave it as is and accept that sometimes too much realism is too much. Either way, packs are worn with ghilli suits all the time.
  9. so what? Screw the guy that is forced to hop servers because an admin kicks him or his home server is full, or the server he actually manages to get into kicks for ping...there is no distinction here between those who hop to exploit and those who have no other choice.
  10. I was curious. I saw that the server hosting agreement says it's the admin's responsibility to update with the newest version of DayZ. Couple of questions, because I see a lot of servers running an older version, making the available list of servers quite a bit smaller depending on your own local version of the game. The wording on the agreement is a tad vague. Are they required to update to the latest version/hotfix? Or does it mean that no one is going to do it for them, they have to do it themselves? If it is required, is there any plan to get the other servers on board or are they just being ignored to avoid confrontation? I am just asking because a friend of mine and I wasted an hour the other night trying to find a server that was up to date, didn't kick for ping, wasn't full and wasn't passworded. It was frustrating to see half the available servers grayed out because their version was behind.
  11. Appreciate the response Razor but that's not what I'm asking. I want to know if the terms of use mean they are on their own for getting updates installed or if they are required to update to the newest one. Are half the servers out there just behind on purpose or are they breaking the terms making it hard to find a server.

    OMG!!

I think his point was your crying about having to wait is pathetic compared to what others are suffering. No matter how bad you have it you still have a fridge and running water, and probably air conditioning while many people are dealing with REAL WORLD SUFFERING! Cry less, relax, life is better that way.
  13. lol' date=' you just made yourself look foolish. [/quote'] Did I? Have you even looked into this? This game is supposed to be a survival mod, not a hollywood action movie. Or maybe you mean the entire premise of the game is hollywood enough that this isn't that bad? Look into that too, a disease pandemic turning people into 'zombies' isn't outside the realm of possibility. Matter of fact...isolated cases can easily be found be it disease, drugs or mental illness.
  14. Fail example. Everyone pays for those things and so they have to be regulated fairly with laws that everyone votes for via representative. If everyone paid for the server then it might be different but in this case it would be like a few people paying for everything, while the majority reaped the benefits, then told those who actually footed the bill how and where to shove it...oh wait, that is like America. Anyway, still poor example when put to that simple explanation.
  15. Wouldn't work at all. Hollywood gimickry.
  16. Would be nice, but this is the internet, where bullied kids get to take their frustration out on others without the fear of being hit.
  17. yup, patience, barns you can look at and see if zombies are there. Tree stands hardly ever have zombies present. All I see is "I want option A, forget your option B, C, D, E, if I can't have option A then this game is broken and I'm pissed" This is a firkin survival sandbox, stop thinking in straight lines.
  18. Impractical for zeds? Name another weapon that gives you the greatest chance of getting away when the muzzle report draws the attention of zombies? There's hundreds of reasons why they are useful in this game but I'll give you just one... Sitting on a hill over a town, helping your buddies get in to get gear while you pick off zombies in their path. Only thing that would make that better would be a silencer on them.
  19. First bit of advice, don't go into towns. Go into the hills, look for unoccupied barns and tree stands. Find loot, practice, stay alive. Spawning and heading into towns is the biggest reason that people get frustrated with this game, but they keep doing it despite all the advice to the contrary.
  20. I can play it, am I missing something? Un-playable seems pretty definitive. Maybe your game is missing a file?
