  1. Every example you give Unknown, is from times where society was in tact, except the Black Death and your assertion that nothing happened is blatantly false. There were riots, fires, bandits, raping, murdering, theft, the list goes on. All in much greater numbers than before or after. Even so, society was not defunct in that situation either. You keep saying we'd band together, under who? With what? How do you talk to anyone? No power, little food, dirty water, no production, no government, no order. Blah, pointless I tell you.

What ever happened to adapt and overcome? Is that saying too old for anyone to remember? Is it because every other game spoonfeeds the players to make it as easy as possible? I'm coming to this from BF3, which I still like, but have become fed up with all the changes because EA listens to the whiners that constantly ask for nerfs to make the game easier. Use your brain, learn the game. I started after the gun was taken out at the beginning and I still think it's fun.
  3. Seriously man, alpha? Anyway I think there's a thread to post about cheaters. Maybe help the community by contributing and giving information than making demands, crying, and saying you are going to quit?
  4. Please don't add 'metagaming' elements like this...symbols and notifications about who is friendly and who is not will only ruin the atmosphere of the game. Keep it simple, make us think.
  5. Wouldn't waste your time trying to explain to unknown. Apparently he's completely blocked thousands of years of history from his head. To him humans are inherently altruistic, and when survival is on the line group mentality wins out. He'd rather go on his own belief than the educated guesses of educated people. People are naturally inclined to defend themselves, look out for themselves, and look to their own survival before that of another, unless that other is a friend/loved one. Strangers are no more than competition in a world like the one in DayZ. That's nature, plain and simple.
  6. Sorry was posting quick and forums don't seem to have a quick way to post links...then again how hard is it to highlite, copy and paste? added: once I went into edit I found the linking feature, still learning the forums, so sorry bout that.
  7. I've played it only a couple hours, but in those couple hours I only died once. I was lucky, but still, wouldn't call it 'near impossible' by any means.
  8. Mobile cards are not supported by games, laptops make terrible gaming machines. Even if the numbers seem right, you can throw all that out the window when it's a mobile card and laptop. In that case you are really just gambling whether it will work or not.
  9. As I said Unknown, it's out there and if you can't find it on your own there's no point. You'll just make up some other excuse to disbelieve past evidence. I'm at work, reading these forums sporatically and don't have time to do what a capable human being should be able to do...read for you. We'll just have to agree to disagree.
  10. Sorry about the double post above, not sure how I did that, and not sure how to fix it. So sorry guys and gals.
  11. Must not have searched too hard Unknown...Keep in mind that writers, even movie writers, tend to do some research before they put pen to paper. http://cluborlov.blogspot.com/2008/02/five-stages-of-collapse.html (before you discredit it by saying it's a blog, look at it, it comes from an article written by psychologists) This just deals with societal collapse. Remember, I didn't just say a mutual enemy with our society mostly intact, we are talking about a collapse in government, order, communication, food supply, etc. Thos mod reflects a complete breakdown of society. "If pre-collapse society is too atomized, alienated and individualistic to form cohesive extended families and tribes, or if its physical environment becomes so disordered and impoverished that hunger and starvation become widespread, then Stage 5 collapse becomes likely. At this stage, a simpler biological imperative takes over, to preserve the life of the breeding couples. Families disband, the old are abandoned to their own devices, and children are only cared for up to age 3. All social unity is destroyed, and even the couples may disband for a time, preferring to forage on their own and refusing to share food. This is the state of society described by the anthropologist Colin Turnbull in his book The Mountain People. If society prior to Stage 5 collapse can be said to be the historical norm for humans, Stage 5 collapse brings humanity to the verge of physical extinction." http://hanson.gmu.edu/collapse.pdf "The sudden change in the relative value of different kinds of capital pro- duces inequality, i.e., big winners and losers, and envy, i.e., a feeling that winner gains are undeserved. Such envy can encourage theft and prevent ordinary social institutions from functioning; consider the widespread resistance to letting market prices rise to allocate gas or water during a crisis." "The most obvious possibility would be to create refuges with sufficient resources to help preserve a small group of people through a very large disruption, the resulting social collapse, and a transition period to a post-disaster society. Refuges would have to be strong enough to survive the initial disruption. If desperate people trying to survive a social collapse could threaten a refuge’s longterm viability, such as by looting the refuge’s resources, then refuges might need to be isolated, well-defended, or secret enough to survive such threats." That's just two because I have time. If that's not enough for you there's little point to continue the debate and just agree to disagree. There's plenty of instances in our history where humans, outside the order of basic society, resort to banditry, lawlessness, anarchy, etc. Easy to find, only took me ten minutes to find two. 12. Sure Unknown, you can discount all the study that says society would degenerate, or we could just go with your assurance to the contrary. Me? I'll throw in with all the biologists, psychologists, and archeologists that say if there were a major breakdown in society, lack of food, fuel, weapons, and a major outbreak/apocalypse type event people would become pretty much like they are in this game. Not too hard to find the evidence if you just look. If the world faced an event like a ZA or other major breakdown of society the most dangerous thing on the planet would be a survivor, not a zombie/alien/whatever.
  13. Everyone's a bit broad? I'm not a bandit, are you? Think that makes at least two, countering your 'everyone' theory. ;) Anyway, one of the nice things about this mod is it tends to mirror what the real world would be like when humanity loses everything that keeps it distracted from its very nature. When you take away all our amenities, distractions, entertainments, etc, we really are just animals. Animals will do whatever they need to do to survive. Put that up there with experience and you have what is happening here. How many experienced players are getting ganked when they take in a guy fresh off the beach that just kills them when they least expect it, to get the better gear? Join a clan that doesn't like bandits, team up with friends, or team up with a couple guys just off the beach, so none of you have anything that the other wants. Build real camaraderie, play it like real life. I know it's a game, but it's also a simulator. In the real world, especially if this scenario plays out, there won't be anyone to complain to because someone isn't being nice.
  14. While I agree that some admins abuse the ability to kick players, players do abuse the inability of admins to kick. There are many reasonable opinions on both sides of this here but I also see a lot of one-sided, entitled players posting. Yes, without the mod and license server admins wouldn't be able to host DayZ, but don't forget, without clans and admins paying THEIR OWN money for the server, there wouldn't be servers to play DayZ on. I am sure with patience and understanding the teams on both sides can come up with a reasonable compromise so that those who pay their own hard earned money to host a server can at least reserve slots, and a way to track abusive admins to players aren't screwed as well. For the record I am a member of an FPS clan that pays dues monthly so that we can have a good, up to date, and clean server. We've been around for years and never had complaints from players for admin abuse (except for the random hack that throws a fit just to be a troll). I would like to get my clan in on this game and possibly see us host a server in the near(ish) future, and I know we would look for something like this so our hard-earned money isn't wasted. My advice, for some players. If you feel that you are privileged enough to demand that admins who pay money shouldn't have any rights on their own server, so you can play for free, then maybe you should put your money where your mouth is, face the hate, the punks, the trolls, and the children that think they have a right to abuse you while you pay your own money to give them a place to play. If you haven't been in that boat, then you've got little room to comment.
