  1. So me and a good friend were playing on the ICU clan server (ca #500, has -ICU- tag in description), cruising in our huey, trying to pick up survivors on the coast. We run into the ICU clan guys hanging out in Elektro. Since we are calling out, they know who is in the chopper, so the admin of the server (ICU clan) boots my pilot in mid air and slaps him with a global ban so he cant enter. The crash caused my death, no big deal really, was on a sick 8 day run tho. The point is, we know what you guys did man. It was dirty, it was vaginal, and I am pretty sure that it is against your terms of use for hosting a Day Z server. I will of course report all this through official channels as well, but I just wanted to name and shame you dirty, rotten, scrub douchebags. I sincerely hope you lose your server. ICU clan = weak, cheaters, no skill
  2. M4 CCO if you do not have night vision and play at night, L85 is pretty amazing if you can find one, M4 sd if you really want to go unnoticed. If you plan to purely pvp (hang out, look for players, shoot few zombies) m14 is my favorite. If you use it on zombies you will be in over your head quick however...

Should we remove barbed wire in the next update

Every thing about the barbed wire is bad. It's functionality is limited to extreme trolling applications, causes graphical errors, ties up valuable loot spawn points, does not serve as a barrier against the undead, does not remove correctly with tools, does not remove correctly from the server, does not place correctly if someone does want to "use" it. If you can make it act like a real barrier and deploy like, say, blocks in minecraft (develop this system and revolutionize the game when you apply it everywhere) then it would be good.

    The hypocrisy regarding hackers

If Hackers were just hacking in weapons like nice guns, people would hardly even complain about hacking. The hacks that piss people off are the ones that result in death and lost progress. This is kind of a no-brainer really, must be a troll post.
  5. I like this guy, it takes a special talent to rant and insult with that kind of flair.
  6. Looks like the US Army would like to upgrade to a new standalone as well. Can't say I blame them. http://www.pcgamer.c...aining-shooter/ Edit: And I think I found it's main competition. http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/05/31/us-military-commission-57m-virtual-reality-training-sim-powered-by-cryengine-3/
  7. I agree that it does play alot better. Time will tell if it can deliver the features the military demands.
  8. So no link then? And I checked the article links, they do not lead to that document you quote. They lead to some government website with links to many other places. Please provide a direct link or keep your discussion within the context of the PC Gamer article that this discussion is based on. I did find this quote from Kotaku in a link from the article I originally linked that you might find interesting (since we are having fun using quotes from other places than the OP): "The new game will replace Bohemia Interactive's Virtual Battlespace 2 as the flagship game in its Games for Training program." That kind of sounds like a replacement to me.

    How real men play Dayz

This OP is badass. My favorite thread of the day by far.
  10. I fail to see how I am being sensational. And I love the threats Zed. Very intimidating. Edit: Also, can you link the document you quote? I only ask, because that is not what I linked in the original post. It was a PC gamer article that contained none of that text. Which is kind of funny, telling me to read what I am talking about, when you link something else entirely.
  11. They are certainly competing from a position of advantage. And you are correct, that is an awfully long list.
  12. If they simply wanted to add a few features, they would add them. They are looking for a new contract, a complete replacement program.
  13. I missed this earlier. These types of conflicts are not new, the only new elements of insurgency are more accessible telecommunication, social media, and cyber warfare. I was recently reading about the Rhodesian Bush War, a great example of modern insurgency, before Pong or Super Mario.
  14. It is probably true that the army is not exactly "sick" of the program but it did make a good headline. Of course, the two army officers I have spoken to about it think its shit, worthless, and a poor replacement for field exercises. It's mostly me and other Day Z players who are sick of the broken monkey on Day Z's back. If there is enough money in it, whoever has the most friends and lobbying power will get the contract, not necessarily Bohemia. As a final comment, if it wasn't broke no one would be trying to fix it (unless someone has a financial interest in seeing it replaced).

UK120 Elektro Spawn Campers Get Owned

That was good revenge to be sure. The whole time I could not help but be astonished at how much you abuse that 3rd person. Amazing that 3rd person is even in a "simulator". If you are laying down in tall grass, you can't see over it. If you are behind a tree, you cant see around it. That's an exploit in my opinion. I apologize, not trying to steal your thunder, but that is pretty cheesy. Not as cheesy as the Alt F4 guy however.

Firing at close range and in a panic...

I say take the time to aim. If you panic and unload your AK in one burst you wont hit anything, seen it happen many times. I think that third person probably will be eliminated (I certainly hope so, people should not be able to see around corners or over walls), but as has been said you do not want to be shooting in third person. I do hope that they keep third person view for vehicles, like the ATV for example is really hard to drive because you cant see where your wheels are pointing.Or alternatively have some kind of indicator showing the bearing of the vehicle relative to your sight.

One thing that is ruining this mod

Hackers are not rare, but combat D/C is equally bad. Side chat was probably the best defense against hackers, you could keep an eye on it and see when people identify a hacker so you know to get out quick. If you guys have been reading the forums on this subject the last few weeks, you would know that combat D/C and item duping are closely related, and you would also know that these problems are not fixable in the mod, and the DayZ team will try to tackle them in the standalone version supposedly coming later this year. Also, be smart, if someone disconnects when you shoot them, get out of there. Either leave the area or leave the server, don't stand around waiting for him to come back and kill you. Also, if you do not attempt to murder random people this will happen less, with the added side effect of you not being an ass.

    Too many lone players?

You guys who are only playing alone and shoot anyone on sight are missing a huge part of the game. Really, this game caters to group play, not that you can't survive alone, but you will die when you run into guys who are not alone. I play with guys I met in-game, you just have to have the balls and focus to call people out and speak to them. I do admit, I like to log in and play by myself at night sometimes, its pretty invigorating.
  19. I always show support for anti-hacking efforts but it is also true that I feel deja vu right now. These threads are very common, the other less friendly posters have accurately noted, but so is the problem. Instead of dropping the rule book on him and wasting over a page to scold him, maybe give a brief and information packed response such as: Here is a summary of the most important conclusions reached in many discussions of hackers in Day Z: 1. Hacking is extremely common in Day Z 2. The Day Z team is not responsible for anti-cheat (that's battleye) 3. The Day Z team is aware of the problem and how serious it is and will do what they can to make it less prevalent 4. Ultimately the Arma II engine is not secure and unfortunately problems like hackers, server hopping/disconnecting, item duping are not fixable, and will not be fixable ever. It is possible that additional steps may be taken when Day Z is a standalone game but as a mod nothing can be done so its not worth discussing further at this time. Hopefully information presented in this manner can quickly disarm the thread preventing needless flaming and rule reading.

    Until duping is fixed...

It does seem a bit odd that the only places I find these weapons are with other identical weapons, stacked in a player's vehicle or tent. I have looted thousands of military spawns, looted the barracks hundreds of times, searched over a hundred chopper crashes. Never found NVGs or AS50 or L85 anywhere except on players and in their stuff, usually with more than one together. Seems like if you see this equipment at all its a fairly safe bet that it has been duplicated. If you care about dying, and want an even playing field, you may want to start duplicating items yourself. You will likely never see the squads of guys who have all this stuff, you will be dead, because it really is THAT MUCH better. I usually get my gear from other players and their camps, and I can confidently tell you, duping items and rolling large groups is how this game is played at a high level. A solo player is not even a nuisance, death is not even an inconvenience. If this is not how you roll, expect to be permanently on the receiving end. This playstyle breaks the game for the realism guys and the survivalists, but the PVPr's love this - to them its all about killing players with as little downtime as possible and having the best gear to make it easier. Its really a shame that it can't be fixed, but you can work around it. If you simply rob the super gear from the overstuffed player camps that litter the forest in high pop servers you can have all the best gear and still be proud that you went out and earned it rather than using the Easy-Bake-Tent method.

    Not my lucky day(z)

Yeah that random running dive has killed me too. Stupid and inconsistent (the magic Arma formula). Teleporting players to a field full of beartraps, that's new. I dislike hackers but that does make me chuckle just a bit.

To whoever took the chopper on 1145

They make the chopper really hard for a loner to repair for a reason man. Its not really a one man proposition. Set your sights on an ATV for you and your buddy, you will still have alot of fun and it is much more practical for two guys.
