DO NOT REPLY TO HACK THREADS!

You guys are doing an awesome job. The last few have been stamped on very quickly. Making your life easier by reporting and ignoring makes the whole process for us all much better to put up with. Just thought I should perhaps make this thread to try and get people to realize this. :D ps, if you need more mod staff I would be more than willing to offer my services.

DO NOT REPLY TO HACK THREADS!

It's hard to not want to just want to verbally attack these assholes but it's better to simply not reply at all, it's only helping to promote their hacks.

DO NOT REPLY TO HACK THREADS!

Yeah they are staying on top of them. But sometimes mods aren't always around to do so. It's just good practice for members of the community to simply report and ignore.

    Shutup and take my money

You're right but it's actually it's pretty easy to come to some sort of conclusion in regards to what's going on. When large amounts of money are involved things are usually on a set path. You've only got to look at the questions Dean asked to the community last week in his thread about development direction. Sift through those questions and you can get a pretty good picture of what is going on. As Dima said though, it would be nice to get some sort of official announcement of who is actually running the show. We are part of the community and are curious to know.

Keys that can save your life

Nice tips for new and old players alike. Also I love your sig, made me chuckle. =D

So what am I supposed to do?

Your first port of call are barns. These are easy to enter and easy to exit, they have plenty of space to run around and lose zombies in and more often than not they will have shotguns in them. Try to avoid towns and cities when you do not have a gun especially if you're new to the game. find a nice cluster of barns and just sprint into them. Quickly look for loot and then get out the other side of the barn. Currently Zombies do not run inside buildings so you can lose them very easily. Try to avoid any buildings with only one way in and out as this increases your chances of getting cornered.

    Shutup and take my money

The amount of money they have made from sales in the past 3 months, they can hire as many people as they need to work on this project. Again, chances are they are sticking with a smaller team and holding out because they want to maximize profits. It makes perfect business sense and in the long run benefit the studio. Don't always rely on soundbites from interviews either. With large money making projects like this there's always more often than not someone higher up the chain pulling the strings regardless of if it's someones personal project.

    Forrest on Fire

From what I've heard choppers are only enabled on legacy servers. Would be nice to get some sort of official confirmation on this.

    Shutup and take my money

I totally agree on the points you made. The thing is chances are they are going to hold out for a while before releasing a standalone. Why? Because they are already making heaps of cash from Arma 2 sales. Chances are BoH have approached Dean and said, keep the mod going for a while so we can get some more sales of Arma 2 and we will back you when you decide to release a standalone. It would make good business sense to do this.

Poll: DayZ or The War Z?

Seeing by the name of the OP and the amount of memes they have used in their posts I'll play along too. Stupid pointless poll. Have an empty bean tin. :emptycan:

    22 day character, planning suicide...

This is the exact reason there needs to be durability on everything. Items need to degrade until they are unusable and have to be scrapped. This should be with everything from night vision to backpacks. Obviously things will degrade at different rates and have different reasons for breaking. IE NVGs getting wet or battery leaking, backpacks tearing from zombie attacks. Perhaps some items that are broke can be converted into scrap metal or used for parts for other items.

Me and my friends tents, vehicles are gone!

This issue is usually caused when a server has been "force" restarted. This means that someone has joined the server on startup and clicked ( Continue ) on the briefing screen. Pro tip to server admins who have been having this issue. Password Server - restart server - join server - let server get past briefing screen without clicking continue ( it will move to the next screen on its own ) - load into server - remove password. This works 99% of the time for me. Hope this helps. =D

[ Better use of the Czech Vest Pouch (6 slot backpack) ]

I think players should start with the pouch. I love starting with very little and having to get better gear. That struggle to find new and better items is the big draw for me. The excitement of finding something you really need. Just like how they took away the mak at spawn. Now you find any weapon and it's like finding a pot of gold. I would love to feel like that about some crappy coyote pack. The importance of an item is all about perspective, you just need to change the perspective of the item and it gets more value.

    Running zombies...

Good discussions about this here and here.

    Why even post anymore?

Yet another person who is not cut out for alpha testing. Good bye!

    Zombies are seriously too fast.

This has been discussed numerous times. In depth discussions here and here.

    HNGamers DayZ Server Watcher Thingie

Nice work, this tool will come in super handy. Keep up the good work.

    Correct restart procedure.....

Ok this is the other thing I was reading up on. To not force start the server and let it "soft start" is the key to getting it to load all the databases fully. Is there a way for admins to join their locked server to get it soft started before anyone else joins? Perhaps passwording it, joining, soft starting and then removing the pass perhaps?

    Why I've Stopped Playing DayZ

Thanks, you've just proved my point, being too critical too soon. Why would you need to review a game in development? That's like a food critic going into a restaurant that doesn't even have the ovens fitted with no staff and making a review of their food saying it's tasteless and the service is awful. It's utterly pointless and is not needed in that stage of production. As I said, come back when the mod is completed when your reviews will be valid and needed.

    Correct restart procedure.....

Can we please try and get a sticky on this thread too? Or perhaps add Mister_Magotchi post to the Quick FAQ thread or create a stickied server technical support thread?

    Why I've Stopped Playing DayZ

His thread is to do with the fact that the mod is still being developed. There has been an increase in FPS in that last few patches ( including amra 2 beta patches being released for dayz ) due to optimization. #2 speaks for itself, clearly something that can be improved and tested with further development. The third is something that will grow with development. The community will change as the game changes and new features are added like the new proposed Grouping system Rocket have been hinting over. He even states in his thread "The way things are now, It's hard to see them as doing much other than becoming stagnant or becoming yet another failed experiment." "The way things are now." Being too critical too soon and assuming this will never change. Sign of a bad alpha tester. His thread has everything to do with the mod being an alpha. The fact that he's saying newcomers are being scared off from playing. Well, they shouldn't really be seriously playing, the mod is being developed. If you're coming here with expectations of an amazing flawless gaming experience then you're clearly not cut out for alpha testing. Plus I'm not sure where the idea that newcomers are being scared off. 100,000 concurrent users and counting. I think that's a good sign that newcomers are arriving and staying. As I said before, the OP seems like the kind of player that isn't cut out for the job of an alpha tester, he would have more fun coming back when the game is more polished and out of alpha. There will be less bugged zeds, a more optimized engine and more features in the game to promote a better community environment. Public alpha testing is an organic process, there are going to be a lot of things you will utterly hate, but a good tester will stick around, make suggestions on these hates and see how development tackles such things. A bad tester complains without any positive feedback and rage quits.

Thank you very much Mister, I will give this a go asap!

    Why I've Stopped Playing DayZ

Clearly shows you're not cut out to be an alpha tester. This alpha mod has only been released less 4 months and you're already being overly critical. I think the time for you to play will be when it goes into Beta or is released as a standalone.

[SAS] clan may be cheating on their own server.

Regardless of if they "found" the items or scripted them in themselves. It's their responsibility to restart the server the second they find these items to remove them from the server. We work with this practice on our server to try and reduce the numbers of hacked boxes and vehicles as fast as we can. I think as a server host, finding hacked stuff and then using it yourself is irresponsible and a sign of a bad server host.
