    Status Report - 24 January 2017

    thanks for the status report ! thoses map changes looks great ! can wait to discover again the west of the map ! I'm not sure i will like the new "in hands only" actions, but people crashing servers to dupe weapons is really annoying these days. there are a lot of topics left to discuss in the nexts SR, i would love to hear more about : - non lethal weapons, any update on that subject ? crafting possibilities ? - possible improvement of the inventory system ? do we have a finalised inventory ? will we see improvements before beta ? - will glasses and helmet be able to alter vision in 1st person view at some point, is it planned ? - advanced crafting (and potential use for the screw driver, nails, hammer ?), weapons modifications, possibly ruined items reparation, what do you have in mind ? - procedural coloring and objects than can be subjected to it (backpacks, vehicules, cloth, tools, scopes etc...) , new color spraycan maybe, do you have an update on this subject ? - barricading houses, crafting wooden planks, using nails and hammer etc... will we see improvements in this area before reaching beta ? - solutions for the infinite food sources such as berries and apple, do you plan to fix this issue ? what are the alternatives you have in mind ? some news on plums, mushrooms etc ? - bicycle and dirt bikes, parts needed, stability, speed, fall damage (and damage reduction with helmets) ? etc... - any updates on boats and helicopters ? - long term persistence and performance issues ? - will scopes get some love before reaching beta (more variety, adjustable zero on kashtan and built-in AUG scope ?) ? bye !

    Not even from wolves, hypothermia (especially on exp 0.61 with bugged fireplaces and higher freezing timer) ? zombie instakill (happens on very old character with low bone stat) ? fall from roof/stairs ?

    i played a lot on blue waffle latelly, nice actions but way WAY too many crashed/restarts ruining actions. i hope it will be improved in the next patches.

    Guns and Attachments

    hello ! i have a very different experience in 0.61. i only play on high/full server (mainly oldschool dayz hardcore, bluewaffle, UKA) on private hives and so far i found a lot of weapons with mags and bullets. the gear you find is very depedent on the route you take to gear up. there are obvious loot patern in this patch (too obvious, they need to work on it). you can litterally predict what weapon you'll find in a house, i have a few ones that drop the same weapon variants 90% of the time. i'll give you two route that should reward you with AT THE VERY LEAST on weapon with a magazine : - spawn near elektro, loot the 4 isolated houses south west of elektro (makarov or P1 pistol with mags are very common here), then head west, loot the houses of prigorodky (mostly sporter with 30rnders and some juicy (but unloaded) R9). then loot all of balota for makarov or 1911 and sporters, the amount of weapons there is just insane. on a regular basis, i end up leaving balota with a scopped sporter with multiple 30rnds mags, a loaded IZH43 with 20+ spare 12gauge rounds and a silenced 1911 with mags and bullets. - spawn near svetlo, loot all the green guard shacks on your way to severograd, you shoul find at least one CR75 loaded or scorpion/RAK with mag. continue to loot green shacks in severograd and enjoy your nice MP5K with mags and attachement (happenened to me at least 5 times), continue on the 3 tents military base west of severograd and you'll have a high chance of looting an ak74 with mags, ak 74 mags alone or a m4/aug. most routes that avoid theses hotspots yield WAY less weapons with magazines, you'll be very lucky to find a weapon with magazine in berezino/gorka/novy-stary in my experience. have fun !

    Effective, "Non-Military" Gearing up?

    Hello ! crafted leather pants, jacket and vest are a little bit demanding but offer a greatest/unusual look and a HUGE sortage capacity ( 9 slots fort pants and jacket, more for the vest). the camo is decent once colored with nails, you don't standout too mutch in the wilderness. spring hunter outfits are quite good and offer one of the best all-round camo and decent storage capacity. i usually go for them until i find waterproof jacket. double green/camo badana and facemask are good headgear, giving you additional rags if your rags stored got ruined in a fight. i dislike the press vest, but if you don't want military gear, it's the best option before getting all the stuff needed to craft a leather vest. hunting backpacks are the best non military bags IMO (and arguably the best backpacks), but the crafted ones are decent and offer low profile. hunter weapons are great and as effective as most military weapons. blaze / red 9 and IZH 43 / longhorn are some of my favorite combo than i only drop for scoped FAL/M4 or SVD. SKS is one of the most polyvalent weapons in the game so far, go for it if you find enough ammo. the .357 magnum is a beast too, but quite hard to find in this patch. i personnally dislike "r" operated weapons since they are way harder to use in stressfull situation so i do not recommand repeater/mosin/MP133 if you can put your hands on one of the weapons mentionned before. good luck !

    experimental has been patched almost every working day for the past 3 weeks, those two big patches in 2016 are the result of dozen of patches in the experimental branch.

    Let's talk about new animations

    hostage grabbing from behind is a great idea, i like the idea of slaps and stomach punches too. i would add : - bursting a locked door open with shoulders/kicks and melee (crowbar/axe etc..). - little animation for fire mode selection - feeding a magazine - proper skinning animation

    Still aiming for "150 players" per server?

    i've read that they aim for around 100 players (i'm too lazy to look for the sources, but i'm quite confident with the 100), which seems to be perfect for the current map size and town/loot density (0.61 exp). 150 player might be a little bit too mutch, especially when bicycles and motorbike will be available, places like tisy and NWAF will be crowded all the time.

    Let's talk about food.

    this is neither realistic or fun, on a survival situation you don't care if you food can increase you chances of diabete in 30 years, eating mc donald doesn't make you sick, we already have disease for consuming raw meat and i thing it's fine. i'm not a big fan of geared players poisoning all food on the coast either...

    CR 550: Discussion

    CR 550 is fine in the game (gorgeous model BTW !), more weapon diversity is never a bad thing. but i can think about a dozen other rifles (sako 85, browning maral etc...) in this category that could have been more interesting than a "slightly bigger CR527" and more recognisable. i've been told that weapons in dayz needed to be almost instantly recognisable and the CR 550 fails in that department. i feel that his only reason to be in dayz standalone is because it's been in dayz mod. we are off topic here, but just my 2cents : so far in 0.61 exp, shotguns ANNIHILATE everything within 80m, i've blasted a lot of AKM/AK74/SVD/MP5 wielding opponent with a single round of IZH-43 or MP-133. military rifles are not OP at all and i'll stay with my trusty IZH43. sniper rifles don't break the game either, they are not common, ammo are pretty rare and getting a sniper static position mean getting exposed big time (got some nice sporter kills on winchester snipers in obvious positions in the NWAF). getting accurate shots above 400m require skill and patience, no kill is guaranted in this game. i continue off topic, Gews post is very interesting, i think a lot of improvements can be made in this department. more variety for scopes, real magnification, reticule illumination for those who can etc... i would love to see scopes handled the way they are in Verdun too. i can't imagine dayz in beta without a proper upgrade to scopes.
