Unfortunately you can not use the hashes and lines of the optic to measure distance in the game (in real life you can, but not in-game). Why? Because different people play the game with different resolutions and fields of view, that changes/distorts the images drawn on screen (and not to scale). You may figure out how to estimate distance on your settings, but unless someone else is using the exact same settings they can't use your measurements. I've demonstrated this several times to friends who didn't believe me.

Our group just got a private hive server, and we're still learning but yes it appears a private hive server can wipe persistence whenever they want (but obviously if they advertise persistence they will need to take care with the wipes or lose all their players).

I've actually been finding a lot of truck batteries in garages and storage buildings (self-storage/garage style). I have only seen one Smesh Backpack, it was at a chopper crash. As for the AKM mags... good luck. I've found a fair number of AK Mags (that works in AKM), only 1 AK101 mag... ever, and no AK type mag over 30rnds. It is kinda funny, but NATO ammo is far more common than NATO weapons, and AK weapons are far more common than AK ammo... go figure.

Our group just put up a private server (not public hive), and we've noticed that no one on the server gets hungry or thirsty... and eating/drinking massive amounts never changes your status to energized or hydrated. I was under the impression that this wasn't under the control of the private server admin. Is there a setting or config we need to add or change to enable hunger/thirst? In case it is relevant, we use Fragnet as our provider, and when first spawning in the new character is neither hunger nor thirsty. Also noticed that players never get wet, hot or cold (even standing in the middle of a pond, rolling around on ground underwater, still don't get wet).

New Server - Issue: No Hunger/Thirst

Issue resolved, server provider messed up the install. -
Anyone else getting horrible lag today? Every server (I've tried at least 20), every 30 seconds keeps rubber-banding me right back to where I spawned in. Been going on for over an hour. Great pings to the servers, nothing wrong with my internet, and my computer is more than capable of running this game on max settings...

Well, I give up. I've tried for 4 hours to get this game to work today. I've tried different servers, restarted steam, restarted game, verified game files, restarted PC... no affect. Every server I get into, just keep rubber-banding back to where I spawned in after about 30 seconds. I can move/remove gear, that doesn't change back when I rubber-band, just my position on the map reverts. [And I'm really getting sick of that 100 "second" countdown between each attempt to connect that actually lasts 10 minutes because of how often it freezes the countdown] Three years this game as been in open Alpha, and it is no more playable that it was when it first came out. THREE YEARS! I recently reinstalled the game thinking, "oh it must be better by now"... silly me. Might be time to put it back on the shelf for another 6 months.

1st person perspective only (Message to devs)
HarmattanAssassin replied to cs_wolf's topic in General Discussion
I have motion blur, head bob turned off, and setting FOV to anything higher than default makes objects (players) too hard to see in the distance. I've just learned to deal with it by playing in 3rd person when playing any ArmA related game. -
Dear BIS - upload MAP image for print please.
HarmattanAssassin replied to niki72rus's topic in General Discussion
There are numerous websites that already allow you to do this, or to have the map open (with or without legend) on a second monitor or device as you play (and allow you to add marks/markers for others in your group to see). -
1st person perspective only (Message to devs)

I play all ArmA related games (including DayZ) in 3rd person, and can't play them in 1st person. There's something about the way the graphics are done that gives me motion sickness if I play in first person. With 3rd person, I have a fairly non-moving object (my player) in the center of my screen to focus on when needed. In first person, everything moves around too much and I get nauseous. That's why I use 3rd person in all ArmA related products. -
Personally I think they bit off more than they could chew with this game. It has been in Alpha now for over 3 years (depending on which release date you look at), and still only 60% of the way to 1.0. There's nothing wrong with shooting for the stars, as long as the technology exists to get there... but with this game, we haven't even left the planet yet (and certainly haven't even reached the moon, or left the solar system). Every year or so they're having to completely redo everything due to technology/software/hardware changes because the end target is too far off. Quite frankly I'd be surprised if 1.0 comes out before 2020 at this rate. I have participated in many alphas. Normally a game is released as an alpha, a few months later comes the beta, 6 months later = full release. But this has been in alpha for over 3 yrs and is still YEARS away from full release. Meanwhile people are paying money for a game (correctly advertised as an alpha), but expecting that a full game will be released in a reasonable amount of time. I'm sorry, but that isn't happening. Paying for an unfinished product that in all likelihood may never be finished? I've uninstalled this game several times since 2013, then came back to see how much progress has been made - only to uninstall it again. It is time to decide if what the designers want the game to be is even possible, and if possible is it realistic to accomplish in a reasonable amount of time, or have they simply bitten off too much for them to chew and time to scrap the whole thing. But continuing to encourage people to buy into a product with no end in sight borders on unethical. Just my 2.4 cents on the issue (let the flame throwing begin).
