What are the best towns to loot in DayZ?

mhh... the best town that has it all would probably be zelenogorsk, plenty of mmilitary around there, also many deer stands to the south, medical house in zeleno itself, but no hospital, and of course loads of residential spawn areas slightly southwest of zelenogorsk are a few industrial spawnpoints, but not that many all in all zelenogorsk is a very high risk and high reward town, kind of like berezino, though berezino doesn't have all that much reward in form of loot from buildings, but from corpses also zelenogorsk can be sniped at from the west and east, and especially southeast and southwest easily, even from some small cabins at the edge of the hills or a red barn with a lot of pine trees around if you want to snipe someone, zelenogorsk is a pretty good place, and on empty servers you can loot all the stuff you can imagine there -
i just hope that the wolfes in the game will actually be something other than heat-seeking teethed missiles you have to kill, if you'd fire a gun near a wolf pack, the'd run for the hills irl, they hear everything way louder than humans, and humans with firearms, especially if just fired, would smell like pure death for them so yes, running away from them would surely trigger their hunting instincts, but staying calm and ignoring them, shouting at them or firing a gun should intimidate them enough to keep their distance or make them run away i am living in germany, and wolfes are being re-populated here, intentionally and unintentionally, and even if it's just a game, i think wolfes shouldn't be portraied like that wild dogs on the other side, just gtfo, climb a tree or something, those do not fuck around, just like bears (depending if it's a black or brown bear, making yourself big and intimidating or running away may be the last thing you do)

i have about 1.2 MB/Second downloadrate, and thats enough for any online game, and DayZ still takes approx. 8 hurs to download The data sent to the Server/received is minimal, if that impacts the playability of dayZ i would be quite suprised desync and lag is far more common if you have one of those cheap ISPs that are handing out 50 MB/s connections for 5 bucks a month

I find it very weird that in that "feature list" nowhere is mentioned that they want to optimize the game so normal people without a 2000€ machine can play it i love the game and would like to participate in submitting bugs etc, but i can't do that if i need to upgrade my pc for about 1000€ to play it with more than 20 fps -
for me it actually got worse, normally when setting everything to low quality i got around 50 fps in woods, and about 20 in the middle of cherno, now i am happy about 30 in the woods and above 10 in cherno, unplayable for me atm i just hope optimization is not to long away in the roadmap the devs set themselves

The thing i am extremely annoyed by is the sound when being in a car and in 3rd person, the sound changes to the sound perceived at the 3rd person cameras position, and the car is EXTREMELY loud i would really like if the sound you hear would always be at the position your character is in, no matter if 3rd or 1st person also i get that the cars are pretty loud irl, but no way louder than shots or people screaming at you, you can't hear anything when 3rd person in a car other than the roaring engines

AFAIK, it has to do with the color, you needed to paint the handrail or AK black before you could attach the bipod to the AK, at least thats what i've heard edit: nvm, guy above me was faster -
most people doing negative reviews on steam don't understand what "experimental" and "alpha" means, they clicked on "I understand" and secretly expected a fully fleshed out, bug free and good performing game welp, at least they payed money so we can later enjoy the game when it is completely developed ;) i think DayZ would have fared way better if they actually did the alpha-stuff over Kickstarter rather than steam, at least kickstarter backers are more understanding and kickstarter sets goals that need to be achieved, forcing the devs to be more focused on implementing features and being able to push back all the bugfixing when the game is feature complete, which is way better than what the dayz devs are doing right now

yes, the 9x39mm round is quite powerfull even though it travels at subsonic speeds, the VSS was also featured in Stalker, and was one of the best and my favorite gun it's basically a 7.62x39mm which is a bit wider, while the 7.62 weighs about 10 grams at max, the 9x39 weighs about 16 grams due to the lower velocity it has way less penetration and kinetic energy, but is very effective against soft targets, since the 7.62 rounds are passing through soft targets easily, i can only imagine that the 9x39 won't pass through and will create much bigger wounds in comparison to the 7.62 i think thats due to the geneva conventions of semi or automatic DMRs being limited to 10 rounds maximum, which is why you could put a MG36 100 Rnd mag on a 5.56 sniper rifle in some DayZ Mod installments, but only ever found them with a ten round mag the 20rnd version in stalker didn't have a scope, at least in Stalker:SoC, in the later two games you could add a scope on the 20 rnd version via weapon crafting ;)

jup, agreed, if anything, making bolts would be easier than making arrows i'd imagine, if anything, why can't you load arrows into crossbows? it's probably not as effective, but would still work, or am i wrong?

Make sure to report public servers that kick for no reason

in my experience, servers i report are taken down pretty fast, slower if it is because of kicking, but very fast if the server is public and locked/passworded/auto-kick or is against the naming convention rules i have a mailing list exactly for that reason xD -

yes, those are very effective weapons with few spikes, if you see the first post, the nailbat has so many spikes it looks like a damn hedgehog these weapons have spikes in the four cardinal directions, the bat in the foirst post had a completely random pattern of stupidly angled nails which is also why i said a bat with one or few spikes would be pretty terrifying i think you, sir, are playing the wrong game -
be glad you have 30 fps, in towns i am glad if i can get 20 it makes the game extremely un-enjoyable for me sadly, even now that zombies are back and cars are in the game i hope they get to optimization soon, but i won't get my hopes up looking at titles like MGS 5, where i can play a game in amazing graphics quality on 60 fps at every time, and then looking at DayZ, i really doubt i'll ever be able to play DayZ in good quality with good performance even with everything on the lowest possible setting i never get more then 15 fps in cherno, and i don't feel like buying 300€ worth of hardware JUST for DayZ to run with 10 fps more, because all other games are fine yes, i get that other software developers may have more staff, more resources etc., and this is not cirticizing the poor devs that are stuck with the engine Bohemia gave them, and this is also not a complaint, i'm just sad i can't play DayZ without getting a headache or getting red eyes after half an hour

well yes, but all these historical weapons have one thin in common: a very heavy head with FEW spikes on it basically, you don't want your target to be hit by to many spikes, because then none will penetrate and a baseball bat with nails is 1)not heavy 2)not sturdy 3)like depicted, has way to many spikes of course, against a target with no clothes on, this would be a serously terrifying weapon however, with some thick coats, a tshirt under that, and maybe even a helmet, you'd basically just glance off of your target and thats it, maybe a few scratches on the helmet, and clothes get ruined, but no big wounds like, for example, from a mace or crows beak a baseball bat with maybe four big nails in it would be seriously dangerous, then again a crowbar would be far more dangerous -

of course A, because initially, the not-nail bat would not hurt as much, however it would also not get stuck in my clothes, it would deal heavy blunt damage to me instead of some piercing wounds, and zombies don't fear pain, and none of the nails would damage the brain at all actually, the least favorite thing to be hit by would be a bat with one big nail in it -
A little question .. why MP5 and UMP and not Bizon SMG ?

loved the bizon in the mod, was awesome to clear out zombies, pretty accurate and silenced (though i don't know if the 9x18mm rounds are subsonic) the only problem was getting ammo for it, which wouldn't be that much of a problem when it uses the .380 auto rounds in the Standalone -
Anything planned with tall grass not rendering in the distance?

well there ist the "sinking into terrain" effect if you are prone in tall grass or on the forrest floor, i remember a suggestion of rendering grass around a player, but not as visible green grass, but as an "overlay" over a players model which makes the player transparent, but only where he overlaps with the grass rendered around him, which was an awesome suggestion, though i've never actually seen it in action i can't really think of other stuff that would make this work, the easiest solution of course would be to make a player simply less opaque when he is hiding in grass that doesnt render anymore, but that seems to be a very crude and easily unbalanced mechanic -
well, since there are real black colors in the game which appear in real black, i think the devs just need to adjust the leather coloring mechanic

maybe even add bean bags, doing some health damage, extreme shock damage, but don't ruin gear or result in bleeding i think i would never use anything else anymore^^

because 99% of the time, people wearing these masks think they are "kewl" and are 14 year old squeakers trying to kos everything they see masks give you no protection, no camo, no actual value whatsoever, so everyone wearing them are suspicious for me from the get-go, and i think everyone wearing these masks is aware of that the funniest thing are the people who think they can lie to you straight just because they sit behind a microphone and you can't see their real face, and think you don't know, though you can tell by their way of speech, most of the time the cure to that is some friendly bottle of watter with a bit of gasoline in it, because backstabbers never deny a friendly offer (as if they expect you to go "What? you don't want my water? you are a bad person! i'll kill you!") it's just like in Darksouls pvp with the naked guys, they always have some Troll-weapon or magic up their ass (literally) -

wow, bandaging a freshspawn... how stupid can you be, i would throw him a bandage but never let a freshspawn go near me especially when someone is wearing one of the clown masks, they get KoS'd right away no questions asked -
i personally would love a good series of DayZ sniping, even if i am only doing it myself if i am in the mood for a relaxed evening, just laying on the forrest hills and taking shots into a milbase or town, it's almost like fishing, only with people the most important thing is to be very well hidden, don't sit in the first tree line, don't si in the second, watch out for ONE hotspot and wait until anyone goes there, especially when you are sniping on a town with a police station, you can run extremely far into the woods most of the time, pick a tree where you can see the police station completely, and snipe to your hearts content, normally no one ever finds you when you are deep enough behind the tree line it gets stupidly easy when you place a bear trap on the rooftops door, even if the guy sees the beartrap and tries to disarm it, he is toast, if he runs into it, hes toast, the only thing he can basically do is run away as fast as possible if he wants to survive, it's mind-numbingly easy to set up such a trap i like sniping, but the desync and lag makes it extremely hard to pull of if someone is doing a "panic loot run", which is also a reason why we need zombies back basically i can be happy if i hit a target standing still, sometimes bullets just go through the target doing no damage, no idea why in the mod i loved to shoot people panic looting in the legs, and just let the zombies do the rest, fucking hillarious but in DayZ standalone having an AK with PSO is far more reliable than a mosin up to 600 meters, if you fire a volley of five to ten bullets on targets that are unsuspicious, you usually get the kill
