    State of the Game?

    The development time is quite normal, a bit slower because they have to give out "playable" builds from time to time, and of course this slows the process of finishing th game somewhat if you think the game is unplayable right now, go play the mod or the Arma 3 mod, or just wait until it's finished bashing on an unfinished game has no use

    Basebuilding....why?

    It's just something to do, thats the nature of a sandbox game i have yet to see a base building type which is not either 1) too safe (bases are basically impenetrable and might as well be some sort of inventory no one but you can access) 2) too easy to break into and loot (why build a base when, once you are offline, will be raided? it needs a delicate balance, i for one would love to be able to just fortify an apartement in the big apartment building north of cherno, to use it as a sniping spot, a bit of a storage hub, and maybe trading post anything you have to build in an open area with a fence just seems WAY too much of a hassle for me, in a game where a session maybe lasts 6 hours, spending more than half an hour to build a base is too much for me

    Old feature for new stealth system ?

    This was actually a feature, and it worked really well in the mod, plus the sound making throwables (soda cans, tin cans, whisky bottles) were a great zombie attractor if you knew someone camped out in a house zombies in the mod were supposed to be nearly blind, but extremely good hearing, i really liked it that way, slow movement didn't attract them, not moving while prone made you literally invisible to them i hope they bring that back, enemies having to fight through 30+ zombies gives the stealthy lonewolf a huge advantage

    Trucks is there a trick to them now?

    the problem with trucks is that you can't really repair the double tires afaik, and they never spawn in pristine condition i never bothered up until now to repair a vehicle, they are so underwhelming that it just isn't worth the time spent, and then there is the bug that makes the vehicle stuck when near another vehicle...

    I think the heat values are just out of whack, adding up to much or resulting in to much temperature rise from clothing, hell, you start to burn when wearing a ghillie suit O.o My current char is quite happy with just wearing shirts, cargo pants and a vest + backpack, no heat problems at all, no gloves, athletic shoes

    Still no love to the survivalists ?

    Killing and eating chickens is way easier right now, those are everywhere! I can only hope they will fix the bow in the future so you can walk while having the bow pulled, even if it's very far from the best weapon, once in a while i'd like to use it just for funsies

    0.59 vs 0.60 CPU working differences

    All the old performance tweaks can basically be forgotten now with the new renderer, things like "low shadows are cpu, higher setting go to GPU" were valid in the old Arma 2 Engine, but that isn't the case anymore no matter how i put the settings now, higher settings always come with a performance decrease, which is good, it should be that way. no random-ass "oh if you set shadows to low DayZ will ignore you having a graphics card" anymore, thanks! now i can be sure to get the best fps if i set the quality lower DayZ runs smoother than ever now, and my PC is pretty damn old, but i'm fine with running most settings on medium, so it's completely fine

    0.59 vs 0.60 CPU working differences

    Try going into you DayZ Config and look if you are rendering at double the normal resolution, there was a bug in 0.60 Exp. where you had your render resolution doubled when switching to exp On another note: bare benchmark numbers (FX8350 being as good as an i7 2600) doesn't always mean that a game will run well, especially DayZ alway runs better on Intel CPUs than on AMD CPUs

    you need to uncheck "passworded" in the server browser filter, originally i couldn't find all the 0.60 exp servers as well

    remember the scream in the DayZ mod when you were getting eaten by zombies? i wish there would be some audio associated with logging out and ESPECIALLY logging in as well logging in used to make a reload sound, i never got why they removed that to be fair i haven't been ghosted that much, since i tend to play on private hives, but it's one of the things keeping me away from public servers

I've played DayZ a lot and have found my favorite Keybindings just about half a year ago: Sprint/Fast Forward is Spacebar, raising/lowering weapon is mouse 5, left shift to walk, rest pretty much standart this makes it really comfortable for long sprinting, using the left thumb, and you can even have full WASD controls while doing so
  12. i have played both dayZ origins with it's "impenetrable" houses and clan fortresses, and the approach of building bases with singular parts and a plot pole from DayZ Epoch, both had it's flaws, and that was even without the complications of sharing a hive with another server and ghosting into a base if bases are easy to break in to, they will serve as a way of getting combat advantages, and thats the only thing they should be used as bases to store stuff safely, for example gear and vehicles, should never be a thing, they simply can't work well in a game like DayZ 1) You can't make storage bases to well protected, they become impenetrable when defended, and attackers simply wont bother, resulting in a game like Rust oe DayZ Epoch 2) You can't make them to little protected, because then an attack during which every clan member is offline is to easy, since you aren't actually "sleeping" in the base, realistic weak materials aren't translated well into DayZ The only real option would be well hidden bases, but then again you have the problem of hackers being able to see where these hidden bases are with some kind of overlay, which is very hard to detect and even harder to reasonably say "that guy hacked because he found our base", you never know, maybe he just got lucky the length of this discussion should point towards how many aspects basebuilding, in the way the devs want to make it, has permanent bases are just either completely useless or OP, there is almost no middle ground due to the nature of the game and people having real lifes besides DayZ the only thing that would make weak bases for storage viable would be NPC defenders, but that goes way beyond what DayZ should be IMO i think if the devs should concentrate on the core mechanics, zombie and playercount, performance, survival and the difficulty to survive WAY before even touching basebuilding
  13. making bases impenetrable is the worst you could do, then you'd have dayz origins, people sitting on hundreds of guns and ammo, just not giving a shit if they die or not, because they only need to restock at the base the most protective thing about a base should be it's location, not a great wall of china

I'd say leave the basebuilding to the modding community, it's to exploitable, in almost every way they want to implement it on public hives it's almost impossible to make a well-defended base: once people know where it is, they can just log in to the base, if they can't because of some protection and get ported some distance away from the base, it can be exploited to deny access to some areas of the map, even if you can only build bases outside of cities if you have such a restriction on where you can build, it breaks immersion, i want to see cities evolve via rooftop fortresses people build, but you know the community and know that such a thing is going to be exploited to hell, if it's to easy to build sturdy barricades, every good loot spot will be barred up in a few days

    Steam reviews + player count

    sometimes i dont get the people who bought into this alpha 1) right now, the game isn't in an enjoyable state, at least not for me, the stable has such poor performance that my rig can't handle more than 15 fps in cities (like many other people) 2) the game is still being developed, and writing a review now, which would be on the games steam page forever, would be unfair, they shouldn't even have enabled steam reviews for it, but i get where they come from, there are many "alpha" vaporware games out there that will never be good games, and they need a way to show that before people buy them (just watch a few of jimquisitions videos) 3) people buying a game for 30€, playing it for over 1000 hours and the writing a negative review are just unbelievable and yet, everyone was told that the game wasn't gonna be enjoyable right before they bought it, hell, the devs told people straight up not to buy the game right now, what more do people want? someone physically stopping them from a purchase? people really need to learn how to live with their choices they make in life without blaming others

    shoot them in the face, that normally makes them pretty peaceful on a more serious note though: try to act like meeting another survivor is no big deal, greet them like you would greet a person you walk past on the street don't do that weird left/right dance most people do to not get shot, it just makes you more suspicious don't try to flank them, if a guy i meet tries to run past me to get into my blind spot, i raise my gun at him you can normally run around with your gun in your hands, but under no circumstance raise it into their direction, obviously sprinting also may sometimes look like you are trying to get the drop on someone also, don't run screaming at someone "friendly! friendly!" that looks extremely desperate and like a setup

    must have been something in my settings then, i am 100% sure that flares were shown for me at a maximum of 200 meters, chemlights depending on color vanished after a few meters, blue first, red second, green was visible the furthest

    this was how i met my group i had back in the very early mod days (back when there was no axe and you spawned with a makarov) killed half the squad of the enemy, then got killed while trying to steal their helo, after respawning i met one of the guys i killed and they took me with them to raid another groups base once the new renderer hits stable, i am going to start playing dayz very regularly again, the thing holding me back for about half a year was the very poor performance

    Gamma and Brightness - Night Play

    increasing gamma on you monitor will not make you able to see more, it will just make the black to a grey and the grey to a white color, the ingame slider works differently the problem with the ingame gamma slider is that people can adjust it on the fly, and it makes you see more in the night when you normally would only see black i'd say for people who complain about it: either adapt and use it yourself to not be at a disadvantage, play on day-only servers, or stop complaining, the only way to enforce such a thing would be to set minimum and maximum gamma and brightness values server-side, which should be pretty easy to do, but it's nothing which should be looked at right now

    tl:dr "wah wah someone killed me while being a fresh spawn, these guys are all noobs" how about growing a pair, heading directly to the center of the map when spawned and trying to survive to get geared instead of whining on the forums?

    seeing flares from kilometers away in the mod? where did you experience that? afaik the rendering of light sources in the mod was even more limited than in SA, just take chemlights for example, they rendered a few meters at best, and flares vanished after about 100 meters the thing furthest visible were helicopter lights, but those were essentially just glowing sprites

    this is gold, can't wait to get my hands on a handgrenade and put it in spots where people tend to serverhop to loot does this only work with strongboxes or also with trousers, vests etc?

    just don't play the game until it's officially out of beta, it might take a few years to finish the game it really seems like you aren't made for playing EA games, at least not games that are so early in development like DayZ, it just takes time, normal games take a lot of time to develop as well, just forget about DayZ and be suprised in 2 or 3 years that it's finished and explore Chernarus again
