i thought m4 bullets do almost no damage past 400 meters (in DayZ, mind you xD) -
when running from berezino up the electric lines, there is a small hill with an almost cave-like little bunch of pine trees and stones, and some water very nice place, and only 2 minutes away from berezino apartment-counter sniping hills

actually marking servers with high loot tags is forbidden, the hoster just doesn't give a fuck until someone reports them in case of bad naming the servers are taken down in a matter of hours, so go and report them if you want them gone for some time read the server hosting rules, if the name is offending them in any way, report them with an email and be happy too few people are doing that -
Normally if i can i dress up in one color, if i see red jogging trouser next to a red bandana and have a red coat on me allready, i'll go as vash the stampede DayZ edition and try to kill people with my magnum xD somehow i got bored with the all-green look, and i dont really see a difference in spotting of enemy players

Take Demon/Darksouls for example these games are damn hard at times, but people LOVE them people don't always know what they want, people are just lazy General guy A says: "I want to have more loot and better weapons, because that will be fun for me" But he does not think about every other guy playing the game will be able to blast his ass with an rpg if his wish comes true, and then he will say it sucks now, if a game forces a hard environment on you, it's hard for EVERYONE, not just for you, and people will actually have fun though it is unfair hard and enervating at times -

i am always asking myself why people bought DayZ standalone, when clearly the mod was a clunky, unfriendly, objective-less game which could make your heart pounding in pvp they come to the forums, and demand arcade-shooter like mechanics rocket launchers and tanks, while the mod, which this game is based upon, is everything but and had none of these things did they install DayZ vanilla and straight up threw it away only to play epoch or wasteland? -
yes, but that way every single enterable spot in whole chernarus will be barricaded, and where do you find loot when respawning, then? also, to mirror every servers items cars and buildables ontot every other server in the whole world would be near impossible, imagine someone builds a barricade in server UK1 and in a second over 2000 servers need to mirror the same barricade at the same place also this will be weird when people are seeing barricades suddenly appearing behind doors they just went through, and similar you would need a system where you can register players for a base, and only these players will be able to log in and out of that base, also players trying to ghost into your base would be spawned somewhere else in the vicinity but how would a barricaded-off room in cherno appartements know that the barricaded door creates a whole base? the server only knows that the barricade in the doorway is there, not that every room in the apartement belongs to that base, too to counter this, you could make a single barricade create a pretty large login block radius, but when you make the login-block radius too high, people wont be able to build bases next to another, and barricades will be built at famous sniping spots, like the fenced trees at NEAF, or the cherno sniping towers, and people will effectively monopolize these spots i can't think of any other effective solution than private-hives, sadly edit: though one thing is clear: synchronizing more then character gear and location between servers would be way to heavy for the hive to handle, it's pretty much near impossible with that many players and servers ask eve online how they have to make the servers tick only every 2 seconds to synchronize, and thats about 35k - 60k players on a shard, how do you want to handle about 500k players?

the hive only stores character data, which is why log-ons tend to take some time if you want to synchronize 2000 servers via a single DB, good luck cars loot etc. are all server-side, character position and equipment when logging in/out is pulled from the hive once logged in

it's not about realism, it's about if the mechanic makes sense in it's genre and in my book, magically appearing friend/foe indicators and bullets not doing damage against allies is not connected with survival simulation why don't you just go and buy H1Z1? it seems to be the perfect casual zombie game for you -

knowing where every team mate is through buildings and over distances beyond radio range? just use TS ffs if we would like to have a highly-hudded game, we wouldn't be playing DayZ right now you have to make a choice: be visible or be hard to recognize as a teammate, and i am completely ok with that are you so bad at recognizing your teammates and shooting them constantly, or do you suck at giving out your posistion to friendlys? why is such a minor unrealistic and gimmicky mechanic so important to you? -
i have the same feeling, and i won't be touching a mosin because of it in DayZ Mod i was a good sniper, mostly my estimating of distances was very very good, non moving targets got a headshot most of the time between 300-700 meters but in the Standalone, with a pristine mosin with LRS without compensator and Bipod, i can't hit a zombie at 500 meters at all, plus i don't know if i am overshooting or undershooting, which plainly sucks atm

the "hive" is a database storing your character data between servers, private hive means a server has his own character data which is why you can not ghost or farm loot through server hopping on a private hive: your character on that server only exist for that server private hives fix a lot of issues, but also give admins very much power (to the point of legally cheating in gear, because they have control over the server AND it's hive private hive server only work with good admins, but once you find a good private hive server with good admins, you will rarely switch servers normally, also i really can not imagine how basebuilding and barricading could work on a server which is not private hive, other than registering a base to a certain or multiple players which can log in/out of it or adding very much client-server data transfer, whereas private hives would need no additional failsafes at all for barricading

oh yeah, magically knowing where your friendlys are at is SO challenging seriously, no thanks, if a clan wants to get out with 8 people in a big bunch, i want to have the upper hand on them not knowing who is friend or foe because of bad communication -
did you expect the game that was made for survival play to suddenly become a CoD clone with lots of zombies? DayZ started with a very small starting community of an allready small community, namely arma 2 players Just because you followed the hype does not mean you will like the game

the clunkyness and negative mouse acceleration of dayz the mod made people less capable of zig-zagging around like bunnys on speed, it also was limiting the speed of the players more, though i think this will be adressed once vehicles are implemented my point is that making the game more accessible and easy to control will only reward the KoS bullshit going on, and more and more destroy the feeling of a survival game what do we have that is characteristic of an arcade style shooter right now? near instant turning sprinting like an olympic for an hour taking multiple bullets that would kill a bear and run away random bullet spread beyond good measure my f*cking problem is that they are doing the same stuff to DayZ right now, in order to satisfy a larger audience, that SOE did with planetside 2, which has good gunplay and its good moments, but absolutely awful metagame and looks like a battlefield 3 clone, though it should have been planetside 1 with updated graphics and bigger maps and more players, which would have been awesome i can only hope that they will rebalance the whole gunplay at some point, adding more sway, way less random dispersion, dexterity that will force you to take half a second aim before accurately firing after turning, and actual limited movement speed while prone or crouched you just can not hold people up at the moment because they can fling around and shoot you in an instant, or they run away like roadrunner on acid, you have to shoot them to get their gear

you can turn around 180 degrees with a gun aiming while prone and then hit a target 10 meters away in half a second? with about 50 punds of gear in a backpack you are wearing? seriously thats bullshit

the thing is, the engine was made for simulation originally, and in real life, you can't spin around yourself 50 times in a half second and then headshot someone now that dayZ has way more people drawn to it from games like CoD or Planetside 2, which are in no way even remotely related to real life, which the engine was made to simulate, people get upset that it is hard to turn around and shoot someone in an instant when laying flat on the floor i was against the completely unrestricted movement the first time i heard they planned to do it

the current gas mask reminds me a lot of the combine from half-life 2 looks badass i must admit, especially with black clothing and a leather jacket also, the barrets i think are not clipping with the gasmask, though i am not sure

the melee weapons as they are now are not worth picking up, fists are ultimatively stronger for example, with a baseball bat you need four swings to the head to kill a zombie, with fists you need to punch him about six times, but thats accurate and way way faster knocking out players as well, fists are the most powerfull option there, though a hammer or baseball bat or shovel should one-hit KO you, no question also it would be nice to be able to switch to fighting stance with melee weapons through clicking with the mouse, just like raising your gun is
