the chemlight though is much better, it lasts longe afaik (at least in the mod they lasted half or a full hour - can't remember, and they are better for lighting stuff up to find it rather than tell everyone where you are from a mile away -
from a game that is a few years in development and not finished, of which people even TOLD YOU not to buy it? YES

sorry, but if you start optimizing anything right now, it will be 100% wasted effort due to there being a new renderer soon also, imagine this: there is currently a big work done on the loot part, as well as zombie AI, which is all calculated by server or your PC, if they did optimization now, and would do future changes to these things, the code would become very unreadable AND a minor change can make a performance tweak redundant or even delete the code of optimization you definitely do not have any idea about code developement, the devs stated that optimization wil be done in beta, so go and play something else until beta, you, too, klicked the "I understand" button, right?

right, exploiting is still exploiting, and the camera right now makes it very easy it's just: either you put yourself in a disadvantage, or you play 1st person servers (which experimental is off atm ad makes me nauseous after some time) edit; if they would be able to boost performance and improve the reaction time of commands, so it plays a little like any Stalker game (or other fps for that matter) moevement-wise in 1pp, i would never go 3rd person again mind you, that doesn't mean instant acceleration or turning, but right now it feels really weird in 1pp to move around for example: you start moving forward from a standstill, your vision first moves forward because your guy leans a bit forward starting to run, which results in a camera movement that first starts fast forward, then slows a bit down because you dont keep leaning more forward, then you are at your running speed and woblle left to right no matter how low your headbob setting is... it's really hard to describe, but i think many people agree that 1pp has some major poblems i neither have with arma 2 or arma 3, only Standalone atm -

plus you could make the camera take a fix at the persons waist, not the head, then leaning in third person wouldn't be an option to peak anymore -
yes, it could work of course, still, if we talk "barely able to find a car and being able to make it working" - like the devs post suggested, they don't want to make cars ready-to-go at all when finding them like it is now, and much harder to get them to run, i doubt big aluminum plates are just laying around somewhere, and the tools to craft aluminum aren't that easy to get, and even then, aluminum is good against bullets for it's weight, yes, and getting a nail through it isn't exactly easy either, but welding might be possible stiill, bullet proof cars are a no-go in my book, definitely should limit the players view to first person if you start armoring the windows, and i don't like it for realisms sake minor mods i would enjoy, once zombies will be able to attack your cars, steel grates on windows would definitely be an option to hold them off for a bit, still i am not expecting it to be able without modding that said i would enjoy flying a helicopter in dayZ, and thats not really likely once they are broken and you aren't a teached pilot...

the thing about the camera "exploit" is: everyone is using it, you are putting yourself in a major disadvantage if you aren't, if you don't want people to use it on you, join a 1pp server until they fixed the camera, no need to bash on players because they don't want to die without using the games glitchy features to their full advantage or are you saying you never look around in 3rd person when prone? -
the makers of the origin mod did it way to far, vehicles with thick metal plates everywhere won't be able to move as well anymore and would have a terrible gas consumption do you really want flying fortresses in DayZ standalone? i guess you have to wait for modability then, the origin team sure will do its part on that then you need a LOT of metal to stop a 7.62 round, or a 5.56 round, these are very high velocity and can punch a hole through a few centimeters of steel plate, and how likely is it to find a steel plate 1x1 meters that is thick enough to stop a bullet?

this would be a good idea IF: -animals would spawn on exp -you would be able to find a shovel -apples wouldn't be so easy and way faster to get xD note: not complaining, of course exp is buggy, just as a warning that animals don't spawn right now (or respawn, saw no cow in ages) -

be aware that other people regularly use this to check corners, so if there is a player behind you around the corner of the house, he can see you and you can't see him, it's really just something that adds to the paranoia, you can never be sure that no one is watching you -
helicopters? having the only huey on a server was a real blast in the mod

wow, so easy and so brilliant... peeking corners would still be possible, but prone invisible, all-overlooking snipers would be gone... +1 i hope someone brings this to attention to the devs somehow, it's REALLY a good and simple solution -
that is not in the Dayz.cfg, it was always in the User Options file (for example Zombo.DayZProfile)

well they sure didn't fix it on experimental until now, there are still loot explosions, just that they never occur in places where you actually want loot to appear, or it just spawns clothing i have a session right now where there is NO loot whatsoever in complete of berezino, ran westwards and survived purely through apple trees i don't know if it's a joke or if the dev team is looking how far they can push the loot down before everyone is running around desperately trying to find shoes, but it's really hard getting a grip on anything, every loot location where there is normally guns/ammo to be found is completely empty, even in the most northwest locations, it just doesn't seem to respawn at all in 99% of places, and in 1% of them there is a loot explosion i ran from berezion northwest, around the nwaf where i looked into all barracks and found nothing, more north and then west/south landing in the industrial complex southwest of the nwaf, still no good gun or even clips, the oonly thing i have is enough ammo for every gun, a sprter22 without clip/mag and a P1 without a clip/mag still i guess the first player i will come across will have a fully kitted out AKM just because he was at some military outpost a day before me, or there is a huge loaded camp on the map somewhere i will never find

i don't know how far the bullet simulation goes in DayZ, but doesnt the 5.56 rounds the AK101 uses also have higher velocity than the 7.62 rounds for the mosin?

well, some weapons have okay sway, the only one being completely out of wack is the mosin, it's way to high edit: also the sway of arma2 was better i thought, sure it was very pretendable, but real life sway is, too if you concentrate and contract your arm muscles the right way, you can get an almost unnoticeable sway even with breathing the ither thing i really hate is how ridiculously bad your aim is after running, even if you are exhausted, the main exhaustion from running is in the legs, not the army, you shouldnt sturggle hitting someone at 30 meters just because you took a few meter sprint

so, is the thing with loot explosions being looked into? i really love persistence, but yesterday i saw the prime example of why it is flawed: on the cherno dock, in the small weapon house and the small tool houses, it looked like a mad man collected tons of useless stuff and crammed it into the shelves by throwing them from the other side of the room in cherno itself, there was not a single loot location spawned, i shit you not, i checked 90% of them at least zombies are a minor part of the game as it is right now anyway, while loot is very important -

okay, i trust you on that matter, i am wondering why then all the houses of a city are drawn at the same time, always in DayZ... i think that is what brings the frames down so much you clearly get more fps indoors, since some stuff outside isn't rendered (very easy to see when looking at something far away from a window, trees are not rendered past a few hundred meters) why oh why does the engine not do this while outside? thanks for the insight on rendering btw :) -
oh boy the old NWAF carnage days are going to be back \o/ makes no bloody sense though that heli crashes are only at NWAF, there they should stand intact, no? a heli pilot has to be pretty badly teached to crash a helicopter on an open field with no bjects in the way, actually heli crashes should be way more often seen in wooded areas with a lot of trees knocked over

there would be the option of only rendering characters when they are visible for your character, WoT has an interesting approach to this, though it would never ever work for dayz and would eat away at the server performance like a vampire (raycasting is damn expensive) it's okay how it is now, i just wished there would be more people on the first person servers -

no, but being further from the ground (3pp camera) makes the terrain move slower past you, also you have a stabilized view, no bobbing at all, and the weapon or whatever is in your hands doesn't move besides your face all of these factors paired with bad framerates make 1pp headache inducing, or even sickness go into a nightclub where they have stroboskop light, and try running around really fast, thats pretty much the same effect -
i personally refrain from joining a group with more than three people including me, at least i won't stay very long or close with them the constant "is that you over there by the bush/tree/house?" is making me insane, even when we all agree to play with a certain item off/certain color, they kept asking one day i decided to say "no", turned towards them and murdered all of my dayZ friends because i was so damn annoyed by it, luckily they didn't know since those are my buddies at work with two people besides you, it's easy to remember where they were headed, how they looked and what gear they had solo has a bonus that you can assume anyone to be potentially hostile without someone screaming into your headphones "why did you shoot me i just wanted to look at you through my scope"
