Date/Time: 6/17/12 11:40 EST What happened: I was looting a deer stand, after killing the 4 or 5 zombies around it I was subjected to constant waves of zombies. After I killed a group the next group had already spawned in the distance and were on their way over. This happened repeatedly and I was eventually overrun after killing 20-30 of them. Where you were: Deer stand south of Bor What you were doing: Looting, shooting with an m4 *Current installed version: 1.7.1 with latest beta patch

20 words or less: Spawning without a weapon
Jimmy James replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
YES Make pistol spawns much more common but not at the expense of other loot. Great idea. -
It's alpha and there's a problem with people exploiting the disconnect system. I guess I'm just not sure why people are so vehemently fighting some sort of system to keep someone in the game when they hit alt-f4. It's pretty frustrating to stalk someone and have them disconnect, possibly to try and flank you on another server to then relog behind you. It's also frustrating to get jumped, survive and retaliate, only to have your attacker log when things go sour. Anything that solves this is worth the inconvenience to those with shitty connections. BossFi has it right.

To the two looters in Zelenogorsk (one wounded who couldn't walk, and the other in a ghillie suit with a winchester) who logged off this afternoon when i got the drop on you: may your genitals rot off. You guys suck.

A working form of this is implemented in Sahrani/Chernarus Life mod. You select holster pistol with the mouse wheel, and unholster it the same way. It isn't placed in your inventory, rather it just sort of disappears until you select unholster. It worked pretty well, perhaps a similar setup would work for Day Z.

Signal Flare... is it possible?
Jimmy James replied to Zombielicious's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I want to say I remember a post by Rocket that said it wouldn't be terribly hard to implement. I'd imagine this sort of thing is taking a backseat to game functionality. It's not that bad of an idea. I've used flares to flush out attackers in Cherno before. We were both in cover at night, I lit his building up with flares to try and make him think he'd be a target for other bandits. It worked, too. You never know when an item like this would come in handy. If the gun took up 2 or 4 slots it wouldn't be so bad to have in an ALICE pack. -
1.5.7 Teleport to Respawn point when I didn't die
Jimmy James replied to Paddy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
This happened to me too. I logged off in Berezino earlier today and logged in in Elektro with all my gear. I died about 30 seconds after loading in. I took a few steps and keeled over. Given the location it could have been a sniper. -
Usually I play Day Z without any music whatsoever so I can hear someone creeping up on me. Tonight the server was pitch black so I figured what the hell, If I'm going to run around with a flare I might as well put something on. I fired up the 28 weeks later soundtrack and was pretty much in zombie heaven. Anyone else listen to music while playing Day Z lately, if so, what do you recommend? EDIT: Ahh, too much tequila. Didn't see that other thread. Carry on, nothing to see here!

Your first time being a bandit.
Jimmy James replied to Alex LWG's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I ran out of food and just couldn't find any. I thought I was going to die and it turns out I had been taking the same route as another survivor who must have been picking houses clean. Wrong place at the wrong time I guess. I killed a few more after that and am now trying to repent. -
Brutal. This game is awesome.

Auto kicking on US servers and ny servers
Jimmy James replied to aceshooter11's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I've seen some people kicked automatically on various servers... the kick is always preceded by "dayzcfg: kicking whoever" over global or something similar to that. -
I was thinking perhaps there could be a way to drastically increase the smoke produced from a campfire, so cooking meat might make you VERY visible (like a big plume of smoke high up in the air). As it stands a few trees at any other time than night will keep you out of sight.

There was a tweak to spawning and it appears to have been a little overadjusted. It happened with the 1.5.6 patch so you may not have seen Day Z with lots of zombies. I'm sure it'll get fixed at some point, but it is an alpha. I agree that zombies should be overall much more dangerous. Maybe do more damage, etc. Depending on the gun you use you can attract quite a lot of them. I fired a CZ in cherno the other day and brought down the horde, even with low zombie spawns.

[v1.5.6] Zombies / Loot Spawn Issues
Jimmy James replied to goldengears's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I've found that hanging out at the outskirts of a village helps this issue a lot. It seems to give the server some time to populate things. I guess it's probably a good idea anyway for safety. Maybe the range around a player that spawns stuff could be increased? If you move quickly you can get to a town before anything pops up. -
Really great job. Thank you!

I think more vehicles would be pretty cool, particularly if gas became extremely valuable. If anyone has played Sahrani/Chernarus life you'll note how easy it is to get killed/have the vehicle disabled when dealing with civilian vehicles. They'd make the map seem a little smaller, and make road traps/blockades interesting (particularly if offroad vehicles were less common). There shouldn't be too many around at once, but far more than there are on the road now.

List of servers with nameplates on?
Jimmy James replied to Intigo's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I was once hanging with like 3 people we couldn't see eachothers names, the chat was spammy, try and make sense of what's going on. This way if I see a guy around I type his name and ask if friendly, otherwise going like "GUY in field u friendly" might get me no answer. Why do some believe having name tags on is so wrong but being able to chat with everyone is not. just lulz. The reason I don't like nametags is because you can scan treelines, bushes, etc with your cursor and someone's name will pop up if they're there, it nullifies cover to a pretty large extent. I'm all for disabling chat except for direct, too, btw. -
Just thought I'd throw this out there. If thirst/hunger drops while out of game blood should replenish while out of game.
-
When you hit escape, doesn't selecting respawn from the menu kill you?
-
I guess a blood regen over time might be reasonable. The real answer to healing yourself when solo is to find a hunting knife and matches. One cow is 6400 blood or so.

Suggested tweaks to balance game play
Jimmy James replied to Leechman's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I remember the first time I was knocked down by the first zombie of several in a pack and torn to bits, I had 7000-ish blood and my first thought was "Wow, I didn't think zombies were really a threat" and my second was "I wish I had teamed up with someone. I'd probably live through this." If zombies were extremely dangerous it'd probably completely alter the gameplay, as you both have mentioned. -
I'd take beer every time, too (of course), but does soda really dehydrate you faster than beer?

Low zombie count/low loot across servers
Jimmy James replied to Mezzanine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It definitely is changing the vibe. It seems like a lot more people are hunting other people rather than loot.
