BattleEye is shit. Bring on Punkbuster/Admin bans
Jimmy James replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Battleye is shit but I think the problem is more with how Arma2 is so script based. That being said I did get a chuckle from the Steam store page for OA that listed "CHEAT PROTECTION" prominently as a key feature of the game. -
DayZ Issue - Missing string and not loading
Jimmy James replied to MagicFloof's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I was having an issue with Battleye that was resolved through deleting BEClient.dll from /users/(yourusernamehere)/appdata/local/arma 2 oa/battleye/ It re-updated after I connected to a server and all was well. Feel free to backup that file before you delete it. -
Installation convoluted and results in loss of hair, help before I stab a puppy
Jimmy James replied to esenem's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I'll second what Disgraced is saying. So you installed ArmA 2 and Arma 2 OA. Downloaded DayZ, Downloaded the latest beta patch, unpacked DayZ to /steamapps/common/arma 2 operation arrowhead/@DayZ/Addons/, ran beta installation file, copied and replaced arma2oa.exe from /expansion/beta/ to /steamapps/common/arma 2 operation arrowhead/, right clicked on properties for ArmA2OA in steam and selected launch options, where you then put -beta=Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion -mod=@dayz, and then made sure to select combined ops when running through steam? -
Unable to move/look around without insane delay
Jimmy James replied to Bruttix's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
It's a very demanding game. I don't think your issues are latency related—as an above poster mentioned your computer is basically at/just below min specs. That being said: Lower your resolution and disable shadows, post processing, anti aliasing. Drop viewable distance as low as you can, disable vsync and see where that gets you. If you're running at the lowest settings possible and still can't play I'm afraid an upgrade will be necessary. Good luck! -
My friend turned into a zombie...
Jimmy James replied to Pickbo's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
For what its worth, yesterday someone teleported everyone on the server to one spot, turned us into goats, bunnies, and then zombie pilots. I could control my bunny and goat, but not really the zombie pilot, and it did attack other people automatically. -
What should I do about low FPS? Computer can definitely run this.
Jimmy James replied to DarkMario616's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
It definitely is a demanding game. Which settings are you lowering? Try disabling AA, shadows, and dropping visibility. BTW I believe Radeon recommends 500W minimum for that graphics card. Skimping on the PSU can lead to all sorts of issues. You mentioned latest patch in one of your posts... was your framerate better with previous patches on the same build? -
Battleye initialized 1.164 Required 1.165 Updating
Jimmy James replied to Robin-andre's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Yes it should update when you connect to a server. Feel free to back it up before you delete though. -
Adding wound and stamina system from ACE.
Jimmy James replied to Hollowpoint9mm's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
While I think ACE is awesome do we really need to slow down ground travel in DayZ? -

Battleye initialized 1.164 Required 1.165 Updating
Jimmy James replied to Robin-andre's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
You could try redownloading Battleye from: http://www.battleye.com/download.html As well as deleting BEClient.dll from users/(yourusernamehere)/AppData/Local/ArmA 2 OA/BattlEye/ so that it forces an update. -
Monkey is correct. You can't use the short white fuel tanks. Use the mouse wheel until you find refill jerry can and you're good to go. Check http://dayzdb.com/map#2.073.069 for locations

Inventory Wipes, someone explain.
Jimmy James replied to zsurvivalist's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Usually the camo/ghillie just wipes ammo and replaces your pack with a patrol pack. It sounds like his weapons were both removed. -
Inventory Wipes, someone explain.
Jimmy James replied to zsurvivalist's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Depends. If it happened while you watched, logged in and playing, then it was probably a scripter. If you just logged in without it, chalk it up to alpha. -

Possible hacking on US 5 (unrepentant)
Jimmy James replied to harken (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
It does seem like most of the players on US 5 are extremely competent. It makes for some good conflict. As to all the rare weapons like I mentioned to Valec in another thread hacking is just nuts in DayZ at the moment. If things were showing in the logs you can probably bet there'd be bans handed out left and right at a dev's server, but the bypasses are being used. This issue is compounded by the tent issue that is supposed to be fixed today. If you found a good weapon in a tent a week ago, chances are it'll still be there after the next restart. With any luck there'll be a game wide tent wipe at some point. -
Thanks for the firefight in Elektro on US 38—was fun! -Unrepentant
-
My understanding of the situation is that many of these scripters are bypassing that system so that the scripts used aren't being logged.
-
Yeah, US 5, like every other server, is flooded with scripters. We had someone teleport everyone to a spot and give out AS50s to kill each other earlier today. Afraid it's happening everywhere, and without a name/video nothing can really be done.

US330 Hacker teleporting all players/killing them
Jimmy James replied to theboat's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Looks like you got teleported inside a building that isn't normally enterable. This sort of stuff will be painful when respawn is removed... -
It's getting difficult to enjoy the game lately due to all the hacking that is going on unpunished. The ArmA games have always been notoriously easy to cheat in and I have been, for a long time, in support of having no locked servers but I'm now left questioning the reasoning behind prohibiting the use of passworded servers as things stand. If there is still value in running the game through a hive/prohibiting passwords with regards to data collection for use in creating a standalone, then it makes sense to press on. If not, with all the unpunished scripting, there's no reason to prohibit passworded servers because far more items are entering the database through scripting than would ever be collected in private by a group or community.

On hacking and locking servers
Jimmy James replied to Jimmy James's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Could be I'm missing something, certainly. Care to elaborate? -
Sins of a hacking gamer...
Jimmy James replied to DigitGreen (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So, have I got this TL:DR right? 17 year old writes an egocentric novel length post after getting caught? I have a sneaking suspicion that if you didn't get caught you'd still be doing it for quite some time. Eh, got beaten to it a few posts up. -
I found this thread by Steam user Dragoonseal very helpful. Hopefully it's of use to others. And the link to Arma 2 beta patches: http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php

Can someone explain to me how the game works, because I'm failing miserably
Jimmy James replied to Enfrozt's topic in New Player Discussion
Welcome to DayZ and ArmA! The first thing I'd do is go into options and find the "head bob" slider and drag it to zero. This will make movement in 1st person way more comfortable. The above posts have lots of good info about the game, but whenever I first install ArmA I find I need to do a lot of sensitivity tweaks/setting changes and doing so might help you as well.
