Fixed tents/vehicles? Wipe the hive
Jimmy James replied to Jimmy James's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I realize this has come up in many threads in the past but it's long overdue. The real issue with weapons and tents was duping by people who weren't running scripts. In fact most people were duping without even trying, while loads other worked this into their gameplay—setting up many many spots where they could be completely kitted out within minutes of dying, having a full chopper repair setup every reset, etc. People will hack it all in, sure, but it won't be nearly as widespread as it was prior to the tent/vehicle fix. I'm astounded you haven't been instakilled either Tweakie. -
Now that tents and vehicles are fixed, lets wipe the hive and get a few zillion thermal as50s out of the game.

Hackers are rampant. There is no escaping it.

Pretty much all you can do is rage for a bit. Nothing is to be done about it until the standalone is released. -
This game has often been referred to as an experiment—I'd like to see more experimentation though! Spawn loot changes were great, and it was good to play both with and without the starting makarov. Try spawning us all over the map. Add more vehicles, make gas rarer, experiment with zombie spawn locations (occasionally in the woods, maybe?). What would happen if you made it so that vehicles could despawn if noone had used them for a while? We'll probably bitch and moan a bit, but we do that no matter what goes on.

.50 caliber rifles. At some point we need to have a serious talk about this.
Jimmy James replied to bazbake's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Interesting read but I was hoping for something along the lines of "there's too many AS50s around, get rid of the top tier military weapons and go back to having mostly guns you'd find in homes." -
am I alone who think older versions was better?
Jimmy James replied to rodier's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I found that old versions of zombies followed you until the ends of the earth. It's way easier to lose them now. Servers that are configured properly won't cause you to lose items when swimming, and the map issues you cite won't be fixed until the standalone. The mod is changing constantly, just not as immediately as you'd like. You may have some unrealistic expectations with regards to a timeline. This is an alpha of an alpha—we'll see the next version soon enough. -
How do so many ppl have snipers and top guns?
Jimmy James replied to TheMove's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Tents and vehicle saving is totally bugged. It allows for constant duping and on older servers with tons of abandoned tent cities a top tier weapon is always only a few hundred meters away. A proper fix to these issues coupled with a complete database wipe is in order. -
Not surprising given the recent change to the respawn function. I'm pretty surprised more of the hackers haven't been teleporting people into the middle of nowhere. Devs should have seen this stuff coming from a mile away.

Your avatar is quite appropriate.

Tonights DayZ session has really changed my mind

Congrats, OP. You've successfully passed the first stage of transition to a DayZ player, though it looks like you resisted it quite a bit. -
EVERYBODY HACKING, ON EVERY SERVER!
Jimmy James replied to thrasher (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
My last 5 or so deaths have all been to hackers. I'm not talking sniped while somewhere, but getting disarmed instantly while logged in, teleported, turned into a goat (guess this one was fixed) and then killed, along with everyone else on the server. Like others have said, it's no big deal if you're in the bean wars on the coast but can get really old when walking 30+ minutes out in the woods. Anyone remember the first Diablo? Guess I'm dating myself by bringing it up but it was great up until everyone everywhere started to hack, and in much the same way—teleporting, killing instantly, invisibility. The solution? Play in passworded games with friends. In some ways the alpha thing still applies but there are two reasons to provide a halfway decent playing experience at this point: keep people interested so you can make a shit ton of money when you decide to charge, and keep people playing so you can get the data you need. For example, It's hard to get a sense of how appropriate weapon spawns are when everyone has illegitimate NVGs, AS50s, L85s, etc. Back to the OP: Take a break for a few days, relax, then let go of any attachment you have to your stuff. -
RE: Private Hives and 'The Rules' - (Update from Rocket inside)
Jimmy James replied to Anton17's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
To all of you who are against private hives, how does their existence affect you? Is it just the idea of it that offends you? I only play hive servers but can definitely see the appeal of having your character bound to one server. -
D/C is getting out of hand its no fun anymore:(
Jimmy James replied to peetgamer's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think most players would think you're less of a dick for shooting back (or shooting first) than disconnecting. -
So I think I'm about the point of throwing in the towel 3x combat log story.
Jimmy James replied to LuCiDiTy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Disconnectors are frustrating as hell but count it as a victory. You owned him to the point of logging out—the only thing left to do is change your position so the bitch doesn't ghost you and move on to the next victim. -
TOO MANY HACKERS FORCE ME TO NOT PLAY ANYMORE!!!
Jimmy James replied to susscon's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
The only way to play the game currently is to treat all your gear as disposable. If you hoard items/vehicles, etc. you'll just end up disappointed when your 2 week char gets instantly killed or someone who just logged in finds and teleports to your camp. If you only focus on accumulating things you'll just end up frustrated.
