I know that Rocket is planning to do something about the annoying zig-zagging and such of zombies, but has he said anything about fixing the way they spawn? I'm not sure if it's broken or what, but there have been multiple times where I've had zombies spawn within a few dozen meters of me right in front of my face. It's extremely immersion-breaking, and it also takes away from the challenge of either sneaking through or clearing an area when zombies I didn't even get to plan for are spawning within aggro range of me and I can see them spawn. Example: I had just found a helicopter crash on one of the servers I frequent, and after clearing the area and going in to loot, zombies are spawning all around me right in front of my eyes, forcing me to go and clear the entire area again but from a very unsafe distance (just about right next to them). It's infinitely more frustrating when I'm a new spawn trying to sneak around without a weapon and the same thing is happening but I have no recourse. Both of these situations have happened to me within the last week. tl;dr - fixing zombie spawns, is Rocket aware and doing something?

100% of people I've engaged D/C

Have a base 20 second in-game logout timer, and reset it if you move at all or take any action, or if you take any damage at all or are bleeding. Increase the time to 1 minute for anybody in shock. Additionally, add a 10 second log-in timer, where your character is there but you're "waking up", the same as having been knocked unconscious, as someone previously suggested. -
Temperature system either broken or pointless
Old Ham replied to Shag's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'd like to see something added for too-high temperatures. The baseline should be 37C. If you go over 39, you can get dehydrated and need lots of sodas/waters, pass out randomly like when you have low blood, or other symptoms of overheating unless you stop running/drink water/go inside and let your temp go down. It would be a good way of indirectly implementing the "stamina" thing people have wanted to limit being able to run forever as well. And then to make things even, have sickness start at under 35C. Of course, temperature would have to be less finicky and quick to raise/lower in order to make things work correctly, and heat packs would have to stop raising you all the way up to 42C. -
I prefer the Winchester. Lots of ammo because you can turn any shotgun ammo into Winchester ammo, it's a lot quieter for my own safety, it does pretty good damage (better than a single shot of an AK74), and has a range that is good enough unless you're planning on going and hunting players. And even then, I've taken out geared players with ALICE packs and M16s using only a Winchester. Having more ammo, having a quieter gun that still does good damage, etc. all are good because you're only going to have the Winchester or Enfield when you're just starting out and haven't found any military guns yet. The range doesn't matter, because most likely you're going to be using it under 100m to pick off any zombies that might be in the way of the next deer stand, where you'll find an M16 or AKM which will blow either gun out of the water.

Let it carry like 20 drinks of water, but only give it 2-4 inventory spaces of storage for other things. You essentially don't have to worry about drinking anymore, but you still have to worry about food and you lose a lot of storage potential.

I'd just prefer if they would go down visually (perhaps inside the borders) instead of turn colors (and act like actual meters). As a color-blind person, it's hard as hell to tell how I'm doing on any of the meters until they actually flash (which hasn't really impacted gameplay per se, but still).

20 words or less: Spawning without a weapon
Old Ham replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
After dying for my first time in weeks and having to replay with the hardly-anything starter kit for the first time, I have to say that while not having a weapon isn't the end of the world (it was really easy to get equipped since I knew what I was doing), having a few more bandages to forgive noobs who get attacked would be a good thing. While it's do-able for experienced players to start the way things are, it's ridiculously hard for any noob not looking at a map on their browser who is getting pointers from people they know who already play. I think we're kinda spoiling the old guard with a challenge and forgetting that we were noobs once, too, and that that makarov and all those bandages helped a ton. -
Have a mixture, with multiple types of zombies. Right now we have ones that crawl, ones that are upright and running, and some that run along crouched. Keep all of those, add in slower moving stronger zombies with more HP that can shamble along at about the pace of crouch running, and have multiple spawn together. Make them indistinguishable from the ones that run until they're aggroed, and now you have no idea what kind of zombie you'll be facing until it's too late, which makes the faster-moving ones even more frightening. You can have a pack situation where the running zombies hit you initially and slow you down, and then while you're bandaging or finishing up the fast zombies, now you've got a mini-horde of slower zombies that take more ammo and are all up in your face within attack range. Imagine watching a slow-moving horde closing in after the faster zombies chased you down and broke your leg. Additionally, the slower moving zombies have another effect when it comes to looting things, and that is that they take longer to lure them away from buildings before you shoot so no more hear the shots. Having a mixture like that lets the zombies be harder in just about any situation.

The reason why it's "shoot on sight"
Old Ham replied to SillySil's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It doesn't make logical sense to leave people alive. The potential loss of my gear is way more important to me than the potential loss of your gear. So far, my strategy has worked. On my first characters, I tried to work with people and was hunted down and killed every time. Now, I play strictly shoot on sight with anyone who isn't a RL friend, and I've got hours and hours of playtime on my most recent character, which has lasted me since 1.6. My bandit kill count is much higher than my amount of murders, too. -
Same problem. Has been going on since I started playing, but more and more servers (including ones that worked before) are no longer working. Tried updating with the beta patch, finally got through that headache and still the forever loading screen. Should be noted that I haven't updated the mod to 1.7.1.1 or whatever.
