I'd just save up and buy a whole new system to be honest. Everything is 4 or 5 years old and upgrading 1 aspect of your system may make the game playable, but it wouldn't be what I would call fun. Oh, and when you do buy a new system - stay away from the HP's and Dell's of the world. Remember, you get what you pay for. If you buy a budget computer you'll probably have to update it in a year's time. I've had my I7 920 (now overclocked) for years now, and it's as good as almost any CPU out there (before overclocking!). I'm sure there are some websites that do barebone deals in the US (I'm guessing that's where you're from), you may find a bargain or 2 to be had on those sites - but it will probably cost a little more than $400. If you want a good experience you'll have to pay $200-300 just for a graphics card. It's expensive, but if it's a hobby if yours then you have to decide whether it's worth the investment.

The netcode in Arma2/DayZ is absolutely TERRIBLE
redsh1rt replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Do moderators actually police threads or do they just troll all day long? If you haven't noticed you are contributing to the crapness of the community by trolling and posting unhelpful comments. I mean if a moderator does it, then everyone else may as well too! So much for leading by example, and no... giving up your free time doesn't give you an excuse to troll the forums you're supposed to police. But hey, you have a blue name and you're awesome.... Right?! As for the forum subject - The net code sucked months ago, but it seems to be a little better now. I've been victim of trading kills with people many times, but I really haven't experienced it for a while. I think when everything is running properly it won't be an issue. If it takes seconds to register hits (like it has in the past and does on some servers even today) I just won't play the game. You guys can flame the OP's concerns all you like, but he makes some valid points. Hit detection can take seconds, people do rubber band about under IDEAL circumstances (I got killed by a player who ran to an edge of a building and on my screen he jumped off so I shot at him - but that was lag... he had stopped at the edge to shoot me). It shouldn't take 1000-2000ms for things to register, and that does happen surprisingly often. Whether that's the engine itself or the mod I don't know as I don't have much experience with other Arma2 mods. -
Will This Run DayZ at Full High Settings?
redsh1rt replied to CrunchyBacon's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You won't get the framerate you will get in BF3, it just won't happen. Most high end systems can't even achieve 60fps in Arma2 (and I'm talking 60fps in cities, any moron can get 60fps in an open field looking at the floor). You should be happy with 60fps in DayZ tbh, the difference between 100 and 60 fps is small at best. inb4 people start claiming they can run Arma2 "silky smooth" with specs 2 or 3 generations old. Oh inb4 the "the eye can only see 30fps" crowd. -
How much more BROKE can this mod get?
redsh1rt replied to rjack85's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The mod is not going to receive many bug fixes. What it will get is (buggy) ideas the devs think may work in standalone, and when they're finished coming up with ideas they'll open up the mod and allow people to fiddle with it. -
Well after months of playing DayZ and mastering the game what else is there to do than to run around the 2 big cities like John Wayne shooting people indiscriminately?
-
+1 for duped satchel charges.

You'd think such information would be on these very forums. Mind you the devs seem to spend more time on Reddit than in here, although I suppose you could hardly blame them.

Debug monitor will be gone in 1.7.3 !
redsh1rt replied to nucleqrwinter@gmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There needs to be some indication when you're below 9k blood and can be knocked unconscious by a zombie. The colour saturation thing is only good at 10k+ blood, anything below and it's pretty hard to tell how close to death you are - something that I would imagine is quite easy to self diagnose in the real world. -
Admin made a rookie mistake. Clearly he should have performed an "emergency restart"....

WOW IS DYING! Ah crap, I think I may be lost.

Global Ban for everyone ... Yeaah

BattlEye doesn't make mistakes. Never. -
BattlEye Just Globally Banned everyone on US 2493
redsh1rt replied to ChernoPTA's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
BattlEye is scary. No doubt it will get fixed but they state that if you get banned it's because you did naughty things and they'll never reverse a decision. If someone gets banned by BattlEye and claims he didn't cheat I'm more inclined to believe the player - even with the rampant cheating going on. -
Instances are for underground complexes. They won't be locked to a particular group or party and anyone will be able to enter them provided they can find the entrance and provided they have the required tools to open the door (he mentioned hacking the door to get in in an interview). The term instances in DayZ is very different than instances in WOW, EQ etc. I guess you could think of them as wormholes in Eve Online - a hidden system players can use as a base of operations and requires a player to use probes to scan for the entrance. It's Rocket's answer to leaving the map static. If players could build stuff in the actual map things get cluttered very quickly, you just need to look at the mass amounts of barb wire and sandbag walls on some servers. The player creation is going to be done underground, to keep things above ground clean. WarriorWolf - Rocket has said he doesn't want to have NPC factions in the game, or safe zones. He has said he wants to give players the tools to do that stuff themselves, although giving players the tools and having them do it are two completely different things... But this is DayZ afterall :)

I wonder if the zombies get the same eating/drinking glitch that players get - you know.... the one were if you run close to someone who has ate or drank ages ago but hasn't logged out you get the eating/drinking noise.

Check out this d-bag scammer on steam

People that fall for those sort of cons deserve what they get to be honest. -
That's not incredible. If you found a unicorn... Now that would be incredible!

Hackerfree Server (Privat Hive)
redsh1rt replied to LoG Steppenwolf's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Hmmm, play on a private server with admins who aren't bound by DayZ's rules and risk getting screwed over when I kill or steal from them.... or play on servers filled with cheaters/dupers and all that... On second thoughts, I'll probably just wait for standalone. I trust admins about as much as I trust cheaters, and that's unfortunate for the good admins - there's just not enough of you. -
Wow... i really cant believe it.
redsh1rt replied to HamTheBacon's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Just play DayZ for what it is. An incomplete mod, full of bugs and riddled with cheaters. Hopefully the standalone game will fix those issues, because the only thing left in this game is running around the 2 cities like a noob with military loot you got off dead bodies. Who gives a crap if you die now, you're 10 minutes away from finding an AS-50 and L85 that was hacked or duped into the game. Hell, on a server the other day a cheater who spawned a chopper was offering a taxi service to those in Kamenka and he flew me to Elektro - would have been more fun if I had a gun on me though... -
ak 107 pso, is it a legit weopon?
redsh1rt replied to dappadan95's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
To be fair I'd say all those AS-50's, L85's and M107's you see in Cherno/Elektro are scripted in too and it's very likely that a lot of people are unknowingly using weapons that were created by cheaters :) -
Oh no! They're going to take what they need out of the engine running Arma2 and what they need out of the engine running Arma3 to make a purpose built game with none of the overheads both engines would have otherwise. WHAT THEY HELL DO THEY THINK THEY'RE DOING?!?! ...

Why are some servers allowed to cheat?
redsh1rt replied to infinitegrim's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
They're allowed to cheat because there are so many servers the DayZ team haven't the time to police admins. The only policing we have is that from BattlEye, and we all know how good that is. Admins can essentially do what they want, and many of them do. It isn't about helping DayZ, it's about helping themselves. Think my group might have to rent a server for standalone, at least that way I can be sure I won't be cheated the next time I kill or steal something from an admin. -
Looted a REAL downed chopper last night...
redsh1rt replied to mwgarner@hotmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
My group killed a chopper pilot and his gunner and stole the chopper, a few minutes later the server resets... In fact, almost everytime I've killed or looted something valuable the server restarts. Hope they sort it out for standalone, because unfortunately for a lot of admins it isn't about helping DayZ at all like they're so quick to point out. They want admin status so that they can have their little perks, which can completely ruin the game for others because of how persistent DayZ is. Oh and admins, please don't throw the "pay for your own server if you don't like it" at me - paying for a server (which I do appreciate and respect) does not give you justification to cheat. Wow, I kind of went off on a mini rant there... -
Still playing?...let everyone know how you feel about dayz right now
redsh1rt replied to pooya's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Let's be honest. The only way you can get away with the whole 'alpha' argument is because this mod is free. Imagine if the standalone game had problems like this. "It's alpha" just won't fly. They say they're going to follow the Minecraft model. I certainly hope they understand what that means, because throwing out buggy patches that aren't really an improvement isn't what Minecraft did. It was very playable in the early stages of development, and there were few bugs IIRC. An alpha in a persistent online game that is essentially a living, breathing thing should be treated differently than an alpha of any other type software. I hope they realise this, because they didn't when it came to the mod IMO. -
when is the dayz standalone coming out?
redsh1rt replied to BlueShock's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If it comes out with the same rampant cheating and exploiting we see in the mod it may not do as well as people think. At the moment we just accept that it happens, because after all it's a mod that is free. Paying customers will have less tolerance for such things, especially in a game that's supposed to have persistence. The "but it's in alpha" argument won't fly when a million+ people buy this game. Minecraft was always in a very playable state in it's early stages of development, if they're going using the Minecraft model then people will have certain expectations. -
None of the sniper rifles are hard to use. The problem is there is no downside to using a 50cal as opposed to the rifles with less stopping power. If 50cal sniper rifles are to be included in a standalone game, they'll need a drawback - like taking up more room or weighing more/making you move and fatigue faster.
