  1. You're just going to have to deal with the cheating until the mod turns into a stand alone game. Arma 2 was designed to allow people to manipulate the game with scripts etc. because that's what milsims do. When it goes standalone they can lock down code, and generally design their game with anti cheat in mind. It's very much an after thought in games of this genre.

Why don't 'spawners' get banned ?

Loot isn't handled server side, it's handled by the client. I'm guessing BattlEye can't tell the difference between a client legitimately looting an item and a cheat spawning items.

Joined a game and found out I died

You are always stood up when you log into a game. Only when you have control of your character will you go into the prone (or whatever) position you left yourself in. So logging off prone in a field or next to a tree is a good way to get killed when you log back in, because you will be seen by someone is within 200m of you.
  4. Let's face it... after months of playing this game the only thing left to do is hunt other players. If you want to live indefinitely then go to a far corner of the map that has a water source and hunt for food. If you visit areas of civilisation then accept the risks that come with it - whether it be the zombies, legitimate bandits, or players killing for fun. You know those areas are dangerous yet you choose to go there. Is that the murderer's fault, or your own?

    Item Spawning.

Upon a server restart AFAIK loot takes time to respawn, and it will not spawn if you're standing in the building waiting for it. For servers that have not been restarted if you enter an area that has loot that is classed as 'old' your client (loot and mobs are done p2p) will make that loot despawn and you'll have to wait until it appears again. That's how I understand it, although I wouldn't be surprised if I'm wrong.

    Tents need to be removed...

Tents do need some work. A friend of mine found a campsite and made his own little camp on the same spot on another server. He then proceeded to loot the EXACT same items out of those tents and emptied them into his campsite each day for 3 days before he got bored and stopped doing it. It's too easy to dupe items in tents - you could turn 1 50cal and 1 NVG into 5 or 10 without much effort. Yes, I know it's alpha :)

    100% of people I've engaged D/C

Hoping whatever Rocket is doing to address this issue solves the problem. Absolutely sick of it - I don't even bother to engage snipers when I know where they are. If I haven't got a gun that can 1 shot them (i.e. a Lee Enfield) they'll log out before I can kill them. I just run around death matching in Cherno/Elektro these days, because stalking players only to have them disconnect as soon as you engage them isn't fun. I'm sure it will be fixed in time though.
  8. You can change cd keys on the fly by importing/exporting registry files (You don't even have to log into different steam accounts or any steam account to play on a particular key once it's set up). Changing a cdkey is as simple as double clicking on a file on your desktop - however I wouldn't really recommend it unless you know what you're doing. Sacriel42 has a video going into more detail on his youtube channel. If you decide to follow his instructions make sure you run steam as administrator because he doesn't mention that (or he did and I missed it).
  9. This is both new and interesting...
  10. What is it with people and their sense of entitlement these days? It should be fairly obvious that when you buy a game you can only play that game and mods that work in conjunction with it. Imagine if they went standalone and had to give out a million copies of their new game to existing Arma2 owners (which btw the DayZ peeps don't get money from)...

    Beginning of beta?

DayZ as a mod of Arma2 will never leave alpha. They're going to continually add new features, experiments and generally fuck things up so that they don't have to do all those things again when the game goes standalone.

    PvP doesn't seem that bad...

You've just been lucky I guess. I just killed 2 unarmed players lying between the gates at the Balota army camp pointing flashlights at each other (it wasn't even dark!) because if they'd have run in like I did (right past them!) they'd have found an AK74 and an M16. Turns out they were hoarding AK ammo so my murders weren't as mindless as I intended it to be. With luck, they'll learn from their mistake.... Or they'll whine on the forums that PKers are evil and that everyone or everything but themselves was to blame. But yeah, not every server is like the one you've been playing on. It just isn't safe to hesitate to see if the other person is friendly, at least not until the devs introduce tools that make it easier to differentiate between good guys and bad guys.

    Finding Vehicles

I don't understand why people hoard vehicles the way they do. You'll have situations where a small group of players have a fleet of 5-10 vehicles. In servers where that is happening you will never really find any vehicles, because they do not respawn unless they have been destroyed (afaik). Defeats the purpose of death in this game for me. If you die just run back to your truck and restock on some gear you've been hoarding. Half the fun and excitement is because dying is a painful experience and trying to avoid the inevitable gives such a rush!

WTT: M4A1 CCO & DMR for M16A4 ACOG

If I didn't have a PP-19 I'd trade my ACOG... It's a nice combo to have! That and I'm unsure if my friends could be arsed going to the RV point to keep overwatch while the trade takes place (I trust no one).

    Ppl still play this? Lol

I don't even know why you guys respond to threads like these - and yes I know I'm inadvertently doing so too, but only to point out that this is such an obvious troll that you are feeding.
  16. Can't see a stand alone version of the game dropping the Arma engine. The devs have knowledge of this engine, and I'm not even sure what others could do this job. A stand alone would likely use the arma 2 (or 3 I suppose) engine with much of it's functionality stripped out. Players won't need an editor, or tanks, weapons, items etc. that aren't in the mod. This will allow much more of the code to be locked down and cheating should be less rampant. Then I guess they can build layers of functionality purpose built for DayZ (instancing for example), so the game wouldn't feel so cobbled and hacked together. What the game does need though, is a map the max size the engine can support (Arma 2 supports 500km2 - current map us 225km2). Also need it to be an island to make boats more useful (also means players can spawn anywhere in a big circle around the map), and perhaps rivers.

    Punishing bandits? Shut up, seriously.

If you die 2 minutes into your life you have no gear to get attached too, so I don't see how dying like that can be that irritating - unless of course you spend the best part of 10 minutes hitting respawn to start at Cherno/Elektro only to die. But if you're gaming the system to get a choice spawn location then maybe a 2 minute life is a bit of karma! :) As for the whole bandit issue... if you don't like bandits - DO SOMETHING ABOUT THEM! I killed a guy with an M4 SD using a hatchet in a city, then promptly died myself to his friend. It's not hard, you just have to get some experience in PVP/banditry/whatever you want to call it. Once you know the tricks of the trade you can use them to defend yourself. If you never learn those tricks then don't complain when you die to them. People constantly whine about sniping/camping, when anyone with a brain knows that if you're in Cherno/Elektro there are only a few (good) places he could be. Is it really asking too much for the crowd that the bandits prey on to use common sense to deal with those kinds of threats? You can 1 shot kill players with a Lee Enfield (800m+ range), you can flank a known location of a sniper with any gun - or a hatchet (2 swings should knock someone out). Or you could leave busy areas because they are dangerous and you accept those risks by staying there. Just bugs me that the 'survivor' group rarely defend themselves and suck at surviving because of it - and then tend to blame anyone but themselves. Banditry isn't hard, and that's not just because it's relatively easy to do (I won't deny that) - but because a lot of players that class themselves as survivors are just not very good. They're asking to get shot half the time.

    Bandits Down

People can whine about bandits/PKers/PVPers (or whatever label you want to use) but it's moments like what the OP described that make the game what it is. The game just wouldn't be exciting without it.

This needs to be an MMO!

The only way this could be successful as an MMO is if it were some kinda of mix of DayZ+Minecraft (crafting/gathering and procedurally generated world)+Eve Online(1 persistent server+alliances+politics etc.). As an idea, the potential is there. Whether the devs have the vision to realise it is another thing entirely. An MMO is a huge undertaking.

Worth it to carry second primary?

Silenced PP-19 SMG and M16 ACOG for me (although any assault rifle will do really, AKMs are really nice). Once you have that kind of gear though there's practically no reason to loot. You generally won't find weapons better than what you have, and you haven't got enough space to pick up any random stuff you might like.
  21. Everyone knows a lot of people alt-f4 to avoid death/looting and most of you are probably against it being part of the game. I know I am. But what about logging in on top of people (or hot dropping them - yes I played Eve)? There have been situations where I have been told via VOIP that players in the vicinity of my spawn locaction and I've logged in and killed them because of that, it wasn't planned... it just happens (quite often tbh - we frequent high end loot areas). Isn't that similar to alt-f4ing to avoid death?! I mean... I'm logging in in a very advantageous position that will likely lead to their deaths. The other day I killed someone because of that, and he had 10 minutes to log off (he knew I was there so I couldn't engage safely but he couldn't leave because of a sniper - it took a third to engage him because he assumed the third was me and got shot in the back as a result) but he didn't. Even after me throwing grenades at him (which landed right where I wanted them to for a change) and getting sniped at to cover me climbing ladders to kill him... he stayed logged in. But because I logged in close to where he was I killed him. Felt like a cheap kill to me, and if I'm honest I have a lot of respect for the [Denied] guys on LU136 for not logging off. Thanks for the M16 ACOG though, goes well with my PP-19! Just wanted to know your thoughts on logging in on top of people, who knows - maybe someone useful could come of the discussion! :)
  22. Oh I know alt-f4ing is getting attention alright, and I suppose so is ghosting to an extent. What I'm on about is different. You can tell from server logs when someone is server hopping to get in an advantageous position - You can't tell from the logs when a player who hasn't logged in for hours is told on Mumble that someone is on your spawn location and a threat to your team.
  23. Isn't one of the first rules of DayZ to not get attached to your gear? Or is it that people are shooting in Cherno? I always get it the wrong way round.
  24. Well the difference being it's perfectly legal and legit to spawn on someone (or to alt-f4 for that matter) with the way the mechanics are at the moment - neither are cheats even if in some cases they net the same result. I guess I'm bringing this up so maybe it gets some attention and something gets done about it down the line (just like alt-f4ing will get addressed when the game goes stand alone). I fail at editing.
  25. Steam has a massive sale going on, there's a very good chance ARMA2 may be one of the titles discounted at some point during the sale.
