I always dreamed of dayz having proper night play. Currently, if you find a server that has night time, you can just put gamma and brightness to max and you will play the game in gray hues but still clearly see almost anything. Are there any plans in the future for disabling the gamma and brightness sliders so that everybody will see pretty much the same level of darkness? I think it would bring a lot to the game!

I've been playing DayZ Mod and SA since they came out and there was this thing called "humanity" that rewarded you with a hero skin or a bandit skin depending on your actions in the mod. Now I know that DayZ SA is based more on reality and wants to keep things as close to that as possible, but we must face it: it's impossible to simulate reality 100%. What I think it would be a good idea to have a stat like the ones mentioned that would not impact how you look or anything, but would be somehow accessible to anybody to check. This way people could establish groups of "heroes" or "bandits" and not accept other players with too low of the corresponding stat. The big impact that this would have on the game is that people would stop playing this CallOfDutyZ that the game has become and think twice before shooting everything that moves. What do you fellas think?

I am sure all the dibs are now on .60. This will be the patch that will revive the whole dayz concept, or kill it as it is. Probably this is why the managers of this project are delaying this patch so much, as they are aware this is their last chance to convince the people that the game has a future. If they fail with this patch, nothing they will do further on will matter.

It's still a game and always will be one. In the mod, humanity was the only thing not turning dayz into codZ like it is now.

I don't know how this works for you guys but if I got to NWAF for example, up to the point I see the airfield, I already have at least a loaded weapon, clothing, backpack, bandages and basic stuff.

Interactions? Currently the only interactions in most situations are the shots exchange. I play almost on a daily basis on private servers and out of 10 prople, 7 will shoot on sight if they have a gun. And I understand them perfectly in the current environment.

"stopped playing on public from patch 0.45 and up, cause I got tired of the CALL OF dayZ 12 yo douchnoobs that are loot horny.. " @Tigermonk Like you used to say: "go cry to your mommy!" :) -
@skydotnet I feel you as I have like most of dayz players my frustrations regarding the development of this product. If you ask me, since the start, this project was badly managed. This is not the devs fault as they are just the "do-ers" in most cases. Even tough a very innovative and good developer, Dean Hall was not the best person to manage the decisions for dayz. As a matter of fact, most technical persons are not really good managers and vice-versa. You can't have it all, can you? :) Regarding bugs, I think the project is in a state that it's not worthy to fix bugs on the current renderer, but concentrate all effort on the new one. Just think about it like having a limited number of beans and 2 pots and wanting to cook boiled beans. After you put water in the first pot, you realize it's actually a frying pan. It would take you ages and it would be very hard to boil beans in a frying pan so why put any beans in it anymore? And last but not the least, money is everything! Gaming is a business and I can assure you that if this project would get in a financially negative state, it would be discarded in the state that it is.

Gamma and Brightness - Night Play
SirEpicTickles replied to SirEpicTickles's topic in General Discussion
Getting back to the topic, the vast majority of dayz players use the gamma slider at night making the night time experience almost non-existent at the moment. I played a mod for arma 3 a few days ago that was very close to what a proper night time experience should feel like. Even if you still have the gamma slider, using it at night makes everything look so bad, that it becomes harder to spot things with max gamma than with normal one. It felt good as everybody was using flashlights, torches, flares, etc and the experience was unique. That mod was not as developed as dayz, but it was a good example for me about how good night time games can be. -

There is no certain place to find them. You can pretty much find them anywhere from civilian to military buildings. -

It's a forum you know. It's meant for people to express their opinions. -
I wonder how would gaming studios react if the banks would tell them regarding the money received from us: "You will receive them when you will receive them!"

Environment vs Environment (EvE) Battles
SirEpicTickles replied to BeaverProductions's topic in General Discussion
Most bears don't naturally attack humans(zombies are let's say humanoids) and actually avoid contact. There are exceptions as when feeling cornered, having cubs, starving. Bears run like crazy if they hear gunshots or even if they smell gunpowder. When I was a bit younger, we used to go on mountain trips and camp in zones full of brown bears. We always had some local hunters with us just in case, and at sunset they had a few used shells that they put around the camp so that it scares bears away. It worked as we never seen them getting closer to camp, even if we saw at least 5-10 every day through the woods. -
Gamma and Brightness - Night Play
SirEpicTickles replied to SirEpicTickles's topic in General Discussion
@Irishjake There is no connection between wearing a seatbelt and this topic. If you really want to make a connection, try comparing driving in pitch black with your headlights turned off and driving in pitch black with night vision on. You might need more than a seat belt for the first one... Currently, almost all the players that spent at least 100 hours in this game use the gamma/brightness sliders combined with HDR:low(big difference between low and lowest) during night time and there is practically no night game. Nobody is upset, Jake, but I was just saying in my first post that it would change the game a lot, in my opinion for the better. Night games would be scarier and more intense than anything else in dayz. -
Gamma and Brightness - Night Play

Do you agree with hackers? How would your gaming experience be if 90% of the players would use hacks? Would you be able to mind your game and still enjoy it? I could not. It's the same with brightness and gamma. A game is enjoyable as long as everybody gets the same chance to thrive. @Just Caused It's never a 100%, but it's the same principle as with hackers and whitelisting. They could whitelist and use hacks, but most of the time it's not worth it. While on public servers they can just join and do their crap. -
If I don't play with a group of friends, so that picking the gear up can make any sense, I just behave like I died and don't remember anything from my previous character. This way I can enjoy the game differently every time.

@BeefBacon From my point of view, allowing "early access" projects in the gaming industry, will deteriorate games over a long period of time. That is why in real life, you have contracts for projects that you fund in advance or along the way and penalties for not respecting the deadlines.

Gamma and Brightness - Night Play
SirEpicTickles replied to SirEpicTickles's topic in General Discussion
I perfectly understand what you mean and I know that there will always be way to "cheat" with gamma and brightness, but if they exist in game, it's too easy for everybody to just max them when dark. I love darkness in dayz and the thrills it brings, but they are so many people using this exploit, that it's no fun playing with a "sight handicap". It's pretty much like playing any game on servers infested by hackers. It just looses it's enjoyment pretty fast. -
I love and hate DayZ in the same time. I used to be a hardcore dayz player and now I turned to a casual one. I don't have hope, nor expectations from whatever this will turn out to be and enjoy what it is. Dayz as well as day to day life convinced me not to support unfinished products in the future and not to invest in promises as long as these don't come up with a clear contract or terms which entitle me to withdraw my funding if deadlines are not respected. So for me, DayZ was/is a paid lesson and not a loss. I work in software industry myself and been through some projects that needed to go over the deadlines, but I am aware that if we would have treated those the way BI did with DayZ, we would have paid more back to the customer than we would have earned. I hope that the software industry and laws will advance and put heavy penalties on companies that allow early payment but don't deliver in time, otherwise the quality of games will degrade severely in time. It has to be fair both for gaming studios as well as for the customers that pay the money.
