Makes perfect sense, I had overlooked the supersonic crack... Wait, so do the 'SD' weapons in the game still have the capability to fire regular rounds at regular noise levels? If so, then I think it should just be very slightly dampened because the suppressor must help even though it cannot prevent the crack.. Ah I see your post now Dorian. What a shame...

Anyone else disagree with the current morphine spawns?
boggy replied to dyno0919's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Agree with this thread. Rocket should have mercy on our souls and give us one morphine auto-injector in the starter kit... Or maybe just increase the morphine spawn-rate in hospitals? Maybe making it part of the starter kit would be too easy, as it is now, getting morphine is like a minigame, a mission that you have to complete before you head inland. But when you do complete the mission and get to the hospital in Elektro or Cherno without meeting bandits or getting mauled, and there's NO morphine there.... Pretty disappointing. -
Found an excellent server on which I was playing for the past 3 hours but I need to log off now, and I don't remember the server name - any way to check from within the game??

THANK YOU!!! And it was CZ121 btw, if you wanna join later :)

The newest beta patch (93965) doesn't seem to install correctly on my machine. I run the exe, and it *installs* the patch, but when I go to the server browser in-game almost all the 1.7.1.5 servers have red Xs because they require 1.6.93965. I can only join the ones that require 1.60. If you have any idea how to overcome this issue, please help out. Thanks.

Never mind, I forgot to copy the beta .exe into the Arma2 OA folder. (I launch the game via Steam)...

So an update on my story... Decided to go for it, was being very sneaky and all but I aggroed a zombie anyway who came up behind me while i was prone and broke my leg in one shot. Logged off right after that. Came back on at about noon and started crawling around the whole damn place, took me about 2 hours to get to the other end where the barracks were. Finally, I get in, start looting - NO MORPHINE AAAARGH. Anyways, got a nice assault pack to replace my Czech pouch and an M1014 with loads of ammo. And, I hear gunshot. I look out the window of the barracks and a group of 4 guys are running towards the barracks across the field, shooting at a fucking train of zombies. At first I thought it was Murphy's law but then realized they might be frieendly and might have some morphine to spare. So I direct text chatted, voice-chatted, did everything I could to contact them but no response. I've got my M1014 trained at the entrance, in case they don't give a fuck and just wanna kill me. All of a sudden one of them appears in the doorway. I hesitate, and get shot. In THE FACE. Lesson learned: don't hesitate to shoot uncommunicative bastards.

So the latest beta patch - just to be clear, does that mean ARMA2_OA_Build_93965? Because that one was released just earlier today.

Every time I check this thread the list of fixes becomes more awesome :D Is there anything that can be done about server hoppers in loot spawns like the NW Airfield? Perhaps making the body visible for a few seconds before player gains control, or posting an automated message in direct chat regarding a spawn within its vicinity? The automated message would be received by both parties.

Correct. Most groups roam the northern parts of the map' date=' that includes the airfield and towns like Stary Sobor. They keep coming back to these places to gather more military loot and specifically kill visitors. Compare it to the towns at the coast, there you have bandits killing for beans, in the north you just have whole groups to deal with, same principle. My advice; go in and explore it all, if your lucky you'll get out armed to the teeth, if your unlucky, you'll get shot in the face. It's a dog eat dog world. [/quote'] I really need to get my IRL friends into this game and team up... Although I don't quite understand how you can have 'campers' at the field... The map is huge, it can't be that often that noobs make it to the field so what do the campers do? Run DayZ on another monitor and watch Scrubs while they wait?
-
Hehe I kind of am though :) Maybe I should go in at night... So many shoot-on-sight assholes around. Lol, why would you snipe people in the airfield? People go there to GET loot, which means they're unlikely to have much on them..

I've just skimmed through this entire 53-page thread and have read all of your posts, rocket. My respect for you as a creative and rational, realistic person only keeps increasing. You've created something amazing here. I too only bought Arma2CO because of DayZ and will be building my own gaming PC next month so that I can play it properly. (I had been planning to do that for a year now, PC+ netbook instead of just a laptop, but your game pushed me over the edge.) First off, a one-time purchase with further DLC down the line (New gigantic map, for instance. New features.) I would pay the shit out of that kind of DLC. ;) I think we need to be more aware of what your limitations are if we are to give you constructive suggestions. I am assuming that going completely freelance and creating a new engine just for DayZ is impossible. Where is the funding? The know-how? Kickstarter wouldn't be sufficient IMO for funding a project of that size, if such a project is even feasible for you and your hypothetical team. That scenario is unlikely to match the user experience provided by the Arma engine. Perhaps some third engine? What are the options? Unreal? Can it support such gigantic maps? Epic Games would charge you a lot for the use of their engine too. But I sense that your preference would be to stick to BIS' Arma engine - the smartest choice, too - sticking to what enabled a quarter million of us fall in love with your mod. In that case, what kind of contract would you have to sign with BIS, and what are your personal ambitions? Personally, I would prefer the new DayZ to be a stand-alone title and not an addon accompanying Arma3 (developed by you, with BIS resources). This is surely possible, BIS would make a lot of money and the experience of a realistic sandbox shooter on that engine would entice new players to Arma3 as well, most likely. If that were possible, if you could develop it as a standalone game with BIS using the Arma3 engine which you would be free to optimize - what kind of obligations would you have? Would you be free to subsequently break off and start your own studio? Would that be something that you want to do? I'd love it if you could respond, I feel this thread hasn't yet reached a satisfactory resolution. Basically, I believe that the new DayZ would be a standalone game built off the Arma engine with the resources of an established development studio that enabled you full creative control. Sounds utopian, doesn't it? As for revenue structure, the best possible option seems to me to be a one-time payment + DLC. Why are people opposed to that? DLC is great! I trust rocket enough to know it wouldn't be as overpriced as in the CoD games for instance. Furthermore it grants the developer more time to create great new content - like a new map as big as Chernarus! How great would that be? :D

I have a Toshiba L650-11F: i5 430M, ATI M Radeon HD 5650 1gb, 4gb RAM, 5400rpm hard drive. I should be able to run Arma2 smoothly based on my results on the system requirements but DayZ tends to run at below 20fps most of the time, on all settings lowest and native resolution (1360x768). The fps seems to vary between servers, I can sometimes get a smooth experience on some servers (30+fps). Is the fps thing an issue that may be resolved with further hotfixes or is it down to my hardware? I know my laptop isn't the most high-end but considering the fact that it can run games like Alan Wake and MW3 on highest settings, I kind of expected it to be able to run a 2010 game without any issues. Give me some good news guys, I am starting to see real life at 20fps.
-
Exact same experience here... I'm hoping the servers just need some time to adapt to 1.7.1.1 but for now most are highly unstable. I don't understand why fps should be server-related either...

Thank you for contributing to the discussion, that was some fascinating insight you put forth there.

My 2 cents: I think that the decision to remove global chat communication was idiotic. I am not too keen on this obsession with "realism" because IMO attempting to implement so-called realistic elements such as proximity-based communication cripples the player unnecessarily. The player is not in the game - he has no 20-20 vision, limited hearing, no body language ability, no sense of smell. Plus, he can run nonstop at high speeds. If you limit his communication to chat at 80m range and give him a gun he is going to shoot on sight, it's a no-brainer. Not to mention the sense of boredom and limitation. This is an ONLINE game, so by definition it should have a social aspect. Now I know that there are players out there who enjoy this kind of solitude but for me (and I hope that I am in the majority on this one) the lack of global communication really makes the game boring quite quickly, particularly cause none of my IRL friends have DayZ. I claim that befriending a random player with the 1.7.1 beta is impossible. What do you think?
